With The Origami King just hitting shelves very recently, I thought it was time to update our February 2018 video, Ranking the 5 Paper Mario Games to include Origami King. I was very skeptical when it was announced but let’s see how I rank it now that I’ve played it.

“The shadow queen makes the game DARK” that’s what shadows do
Yeah
Lmao
Unless it's Persona even though sometimes the shadows makes it dark. Even though you most likely don't know what that series is
Lol
Wut? Seriosly? This game have BLOOD in japanese version!
So glad to see Super Paper Mario is getting more and more love nowadays, it always has been my favorite Paper Mario game and I felt really alone with that opinion 10 years ago
It’s my favorite Mario game period 😂
Same
Me too I always felt that way
Yessir!! One of my fav games ever
I’m gonna be honest. I came in here fully expecting TTYD to be ranked 1
Tbh super paper mario has a way better story and still maintaining good gameplay while ttyd has better combat and characters
My favorite is TTYD. 2nd would be SPM but that game would have been much better if they had turn based battles and unique stories and personalities for the pixel partners Mario meets along the way. It ends up everyone but Tippi is just a mindless tool instead of an adding source of quips and replayability...
Also TTYD is way funnier I've played it more than a dozen times and still the jokes make me laugh out loud that is some high quality humor! SPM is funny but no where near that much IMO
Lukas von das Eis I would say that about any genre except for RPGs
Same
Same lmao

@@ahmadkazan7994 Mario fans generally accept Super Mario platform games to be plain in story as long as the world they play on is actually very good -- Mario RPG's however are the opposite, where story and worldbuiliding is as worth it as the gameplay.

3. Super Paper Mario (9/10)
2. Paper Mario 64 (9,5/10)
1. Paper Mario TTYD (9,75/10)
It’s my opinion
That’s my list as well.
Agreed.
That's almost every Thousand-Year Door fans list
Why 20 instead of 10?
Why not just eat the peel and throw out the banana with your 20 point ranking system chaos.
Origami king has been really fun.
In other news I have anxiety whenever I see scissors now.
Jeez, they killed me twice with the QTE
I jumped on scissors with iron boots and was in sheer shock seeing mario being physically cut in half, but overall great boss

The entire green streamer is ocasionally mortifying whether is be the Weird Black thin- don't word it like that, or the Paper Mistake,
Yes it's a very fun game it's accually amazing in my book
I was scared he was gonna put my precious super paper Mario in the last places like others that stopped playing the game when they saw it wasn’t turn base, but I see he got the exact same ranking as me. Good job! SPM is my favorite game too.
Who in their right mind would rank Super Paper Mario below Sticker Star anyway?
@@adlaistevenson2623 Who would rank in Paper Mario game below Sticker Star?!
This list is EXACTLY like mine, also who would put any Paper Mario over Sticker Star.
Super paper Mario is just the best
1:Super
2:64
3:Origami King
4:Thousand Year Door
5:Color Splash
6:Sticker Star
@Low Quality Cartoons why is Super and Origami King in last place both of them are way better than Sticker Star
@Low Quality Cartoons CS high on list i like but SPM on the bottom is not okey dokey
@Low Quality Cartoons OK I understand I did have fun with Sticker Star but not as much as Super Paper Mario, Origami King, and the other Paper Mario games
@Low Quality Cartoons I mean, TOK is a Action Adventure game..And It has puzzles. So no offense, But the puzzles make you think. Really hard. Not trying to say your wrong however. I am close to beating the Blue Streamer, So I wouldnt know much.

What’s funny is sticker star was my first paper Mario game and loved it only because I didn’t know others were made.

My first as well, and second favorite! (1st being color splash)

ME TOO but i do agree that the orignal were better
Someone else says that Super Paper Mario is their favorite game of all time :) is glad I’m not alone on fhat
Me and my cousin played it together at our grandparents when we were young, after I bought it and it is to this day our favorite game.
Super paper Mario with my favourite game and I beat the game
Super paper mario was the only paper mario game i had for 4 years
I still have the game and i love it
ME TOOOOOOOO! 😍
Sticker star is literally the opposite of super
Ss has no story, while super has the best in the series
ss only has toads as npcs, while super only has one toad in the entire game
ss has turn based combat, while super has real time combat
ss has no xp, but super does
ss has no unique locations, but super does
Its cool how super is like a action rpg but uses platforming ( kinda like kingdom hearts) it was refreshing and its my favorite
I couldn't understand :/
I hated the real time battle in SPM bc it felt like a main line 2D Mario platformer with a twist. Never finished the game but I may someday. If I can find my copy
@@senorsnipey1595 watch out for the spm fans
@@ysn078 I got through more than half the game and just wasn't inspired. I didn't even know SPM had a following like that lol if you think this is bad you should see my actual comment on the video with my list🤘🤣🤘
My subjective list:
6- Sticker Star. Everyone knows why, moving on.
5- Color Splash. Just Sticker Star 2. Better than the previous, but still garbage. I didn't even finish the game.
4- Paper Mario. Points for being the original and setting the standard. Only so low because the others are so good.
3- Super Paper Mario. I LOVE the characters, world, and story this game has. If it had battles, partners, and leveling like the first two, this would probably tie for #1.
2- Origami King. I was wonderfully surprised by how much I loved this game, and not just because it's the newest installment. The graphics and sound design are spotless, the humor is brilliant, the battles are kinda fun, and the final boss is the second best in the series. However, it's *apparently impossible* for Nintendo to make unique Mario characters anymore, and the last game was really weak.
(Also, I did not expect to get THAT attached to an unnamed Bob-omb. I cried real hard.)
1- Thousand Year Door. To no one's surprise, Ttyd takes #1. This is the exact definition of what Paper Mario should be. Battles are endless fun, every character is unique, the story is captivating and full of twists, and, most importantly, THERE'S INCENTIVE TO BATTLE.
But super paper Mario did have partners and leveling up
My fav is the wii one the story is Jesus christ
for me Origami king wouldnt be number 2 for me it would be Paper Mario.for me it would be 4th
Exactly my thoughts. Although I actually enjoyed Color Splash, but it´s still down there only above Sticker Star.
Super Paper Marios only problem really is the gameplay, I like that they tried new things but it was so unbalanced and kinda too easy.
But the story is just amazing. And I really like and feel bad for the "villains" in this one.
Origami King was really good, I love the humor and the few a bit more unique toaddesigns that were in there were also good.
It just became better and better the longer the game went on. The beginning and very slow tutorial is argueably the worst part of the game.
I´m so amazed how they made me attached to Bobby the Bob-omb in such a short amount of time
Bait10, Same with me but I would change No.3 and No.4

My bad, I forgot to bring up the Legion of Stationery when talking about the bosses for TOK. I was gonna say how the idea is interesting but I prefer actual characters over them.
I kinda prefer them this way
Not only does it play into the theme of the game, I think its better to go with some off the wall design
(Plus Id be lying if I said I dont like some of their dialogue)
I wish they were characters that used office supplies because they do have some personality it's just I can't take them seriously for obvious reasons
@@lilsoonerfaninmo I don't, once again taking the paper theme to an extreme, and just overall lazy on top of the laziness already plaguing this series.
Mendicant_Bias The_Betrayer I agree. Some if the bosses were fun, but the fact that they’re office supplies just made them feel lazy. I’m gonna remember bosses like cortez and rawk hawk a lot more than colored pencils and tape.

I don't get what is so hard to understand for some people. There are people saying that I should seriously change my ranking of the games I enjoyed the most. This list is how much I enjoyed each game. Just because you enjoyed a game more than another, doesn't mean I did. If that is a problem for you, then just wow. Plenty of people disagree with the ranking yet enjoyed hearing someone else talk about theirs and were very respectful in the comments by listing their own ranking while not forcing it upon other people. If you think my opinion was "wrong", and are angry about it, please make your own video then with the true opinion. At the end of the day, my opinion doesn't matter. I'm just a random person on the internet talking about video games. How much I enjoyed each game should not bother you. You can have Sticker Star as your favorite game and I still wouldn't think you are wrong, I would just disagree.
lol Super Paper Mario is the only Paper Mario game I have, the only thing I have against it is that the codes are so dang long. I gave up for several years after world 5-1 after there was a code so long I wrote it down wrong the first time.
141* but I think ppl forgot what opinions are
But the first level is easy
Wow! What a CZcams comment. You go into a very subjective field and expect people to NOT dislike the video when you put a game that's not even an RPG most of the time at number 1?
@Low Quality Cartoons Some people don't. You'd be shocked.
SPOILERS FOR ORIGAMI KING
I love TOK's story. I love how they deal with Bobby's death, and the way you have to make Olivia laugh is insanely sweet. Its also interesting how they made Olly a racist against Toads and how this game addresses it. The ending is also REALLY bittersweet.
"If you've seen one toad you've seen them all, there all the same to me."
There were so many good ideas for the story but ultimately it was all handled in a really bland way imo. Bobby was the only good character but his design just kinda bogged him down and Olly's hatred against toads was very random imo and the whole story could have been solved if Olly just asked olivia what he did in the beginning of the story.
OMG ikr. I really love that game, I’ve only had it for a week and I’m 4 trophy’s away from 100% ing it

Origami King has been a very welcome surprise! Despite not having XP to gain, the battle system doesn't make me want to punch someone! I actually get excited to see what sort of combination the enemies will be arranged in next, and while they never get TOO crazy, they do make me think about how a battle will play out more than the last 2 games, especially in the boss battles.

Nice ranking. Maybe I will play these games one day, and you were right about not surprising me with your favorite in the franchise.
Honestly the first 3 entries were great, then Sticker Star happened, and since then Nintendo has spent the past 2 entries (Colour Splash and Oragami King) fixing the mistakes that sticker star made. The series is slowly going back into what it used to be, so I'd say theres hope for the series.
Nintendo lost talented developers and writers of the original 3 games. It's like they don't want to put in effort anymore and milking the game because of it's popularity. If it doesn't work out, they'll probably drop it. Nintendo prioritize maximizing profit before creativity for PM nowadays.
I dunno we have to wait for a console generate for each paper mario and at this rate its gonna be years before its just another "step in the right direction"
i prefer the new ones because teh old are so boring
Not until the stranglehold on the series is lifted. Someone higher up is clearly intentionally holding back from making a game like the first two. Probably Miyamoto is the one pulling rank.

The Action Comand is actually a carry over from before Paper Mario. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Super Mario RPG is a hidden Gem in my opinion because it seems to me alot of the Paper Mario Fans forget that there was a Mario RPG game before Paper Mario. As for my ranking Paper Mario, I put the Original and TTYD at 1 & 2 and TOK at number 3 above SPM at number 4 and CS and SS at 5 & 6.

Honestly. I liked Origami King. I like its characters with Bobby and Olivia and the others, It could get confusing at times, But when I realized what I HAD to do, I felt good inside.
9/10. The Origami King is a must buy for first-time beginners in the PM series. Atleast for me. I never FULLY played the last two. Either because I was a stupid little child or reasons. So I wanna treat TOK as my first actual Paper Mario game. I feel like Im gonna enjoy the rest of Origami King.
It’s good, but I don’t feel like it is like a one and done game. Not a game I’ll likely replay. Maybe I will in a long time but I just think it’s a nicely made game worth playing but it just isn’t great.
@@GameDomain Yeah. True. Im not even close to done with TOK, So I really cant say much about it until I am finished. (If I ever finish it).
Game Domain gotta remember that BOTW is a LONG game and unless you have other peoples info of how to beat some things it will take forever.
Also keep in mind TOK only released yesterday lol. This game is pretty damn good (the only thing that is somewhat annoying is battle mode)
I do like BOTW alot but i am not done yet with it and im over 100 hours in it 😂
@@TheMail518 True. But the thing that pushed me off from this game was the minigames. Some of them were pretty nice. But "Shy Guys Finish Last" was stupidly hard. I deleted the game shortly after I failed twice.
I think its to slow
I don’t know, I kinda liked Sticker Star. But maybe that was only because it was my first Paper Mario game along with the fact I was 4
yeah i thought it was decent and i kind of liked the battle system
I love Paper Mario Sticker Star, it was my first paper Mario game and I enjoyed it a lot. To be honest, I love this game and I consider it not the worst but the weakest of all the series because Paper Mario Sticker Star had a weak story, no new characters and also is only focused on the Mario series with no other stuff that is related to the Mario series.
I feel that. I played 3D Land when I was five and it was the first game I ever played, and until recently I completed the whole game 100%. Nostalgia is the ultimate bias, I think.
Just sayin xd for all of you who love sticker star you should try color splash. Cuz that's a 1-UP from sticker star 👍
Paper mario sticker star was also my first paper mario game but now the origami king is my second game
The highlights of these games are when you have those surprises that are like "there is no way Nintendo would ever do that" like traveling to hell and riding a boat across river sytx or the sudo horror parts of the modern games. I love when they go the extra mile to deliver a good death too. Bobby's death and sacrifice is handled very well and they didn't cop out at all. I also like the transition into the fun jokey Paper Mario where you drive out of the cave with your ridiculous new boot car. I also loved when the giant creepy black figures attack you.
Basically the list
1. Old series
2. New series
Came to this video as a new watcher, really respect the ranking even though I think a little differently- Super has always been so underrated and decisive within the community in my opinion!
Colour splash is my favorite, I agree with all the points about uninteresting character design but for me the writing is what I hold above everything else, and colour splash has just had the best dialogue and comedy in the series imo.
Not to mention the incredibly wacky levels, be it the parallel worlds in chapter 4, or repairing a train in chapter 5
Me too!
Fun fact:
The original 3 Paper Mario games, in Japanese, was called *Mario Story.* When Sticker Star released, that's when it was called Paper Mario.
So in a way it's like they are different series. I kinda blame localization for all the toxicity going on in the fanbase.
But Mario looked like he's from paper in first game, so it isn't different series. You can clearly see that he's flat
@@bluetoad2813 You seem to not know about the first 3 games if you think its all only about paper..
@@LinnyUwU I never said that it's all about paper, I just said that mario is flat in these games like in the newer ones
@@bluetoad2813 But the difference is that 64, TTYD and SPM don't treat the characters and the world as if they're made of paper. The reason the characters and environments look flat is because that's just emphasizing that the story is told through a storybook, nothing more. Exactly like how the story of Yoshi's Island is told through a coloring book but it doesn't mean the world is literally made of coloring pages. Paper Mario 64, TTYD and SPM take place in the mainline Mario universe. Modern Paper Mario games on the other hand completely misses the point and treat the characters and world as if it's all made of paper, even even need to joke about it all the time making paper puns and gags.
Did you get an early copy or something?
How did you rank it so quickly?
Well, when you pre-order digital games, you can download them early so it can be played immediately on the release date (at least that's how it worked for me when I pre-ordered Shantae and the Seven Sirens a week before launching on the Switch).
Yeah, I got it the day it came out and have been playing it non-stop and I have only finished second ribbon
There was a leak that let it be played 1 week early
First three Paper Mario games had more of a "Pop-Up Book" aesthetic, where it was just a story being told, and any jokes or references to paper was a minor part of the overall experience.
Meanwhile the modern trilogy has more of an "arts and crafts" aesthetic where being in a paper craft world is the main gimmick, both in the story and the jokes. Which, to me, screams laziness. Just my take, anyway.
This is very accurate.
Just another day for Colour Splash and Sticker Star..
My list
1. Paper Mario the origami king
2. Paper Mario colour splash
3. Paper Mario sticker Star
4. paper Mario the thousand year door
5. Super paper Mario
6. Paper Mario
Definitely an unpopular list, but still a good one! I agree with you on one thing, that being Origami King at #1, if you could even count it because I haven't played a Paper Mario game other than Origami King.
WARNING: Massive ranking coming up with a lot of text.
This is all my opinion.
#x - Color Splash
I have never played it, but I think the battles are worse than in those in Sticker Star, because sliding and painting cards over and over again doesn't seem fun at all. There are also no damage numbers, which kinda takes away the strategy in battling. The exploration is pretty neat though.
#5 - Paper Mario 64
The most controversial one on my list. This game was a little boring to me. I also had a lot of balancing issues with it. Most of the time (especially later in the game), each battle would contain a lot of enemies which would all deal a ton of damage. I quickly found myself losing more than half of my HP per battle. Partners could easily be injured, which was also quite irritating. The locations, characters and events were quite fun though.
#4 - Sticker Star
Ah yes, the internet's punching bag. To be honest, I actually like the game a bit. While the locations weren't original, they were quite fun to explore. The story wasn't great, but certain events were pretty enjoyable. The game looks beautiful and seeing 'things' interact with the world was very funny. There is more strategy to battling here than in Color Splash and I enjoyed the game more than the original Paper Mario.
#3 - Super Paper Mario
My top 3 favourite Paper Mario games are all one of my favorite games of all time. Super has an amazing story and such deep lore. The gameplay is excellent and flipping is pretty fun. All chapters are fun and interesting. There are a lot of great characters. After you finish the main story, there is still a ton of stuff to do. If this game had more than just 1 turn-based battle, it would definitely be #1 on this list.
#2 - The Origami King
*NO SPOILERS*
This game is so big, it almost feels like a Zelda game (and I'm not just talking about the purple streamer). The whole adventure feels so grandiose and the world looks beautiful. The characters are charming and the dialogue is excellent. You don't get experience points for battling, but the battles were just so much fun, I couldn't feel the need to have an incentive to battle. I also never ran away from one, because I enjoyed them so much. The story is pretty nice, although it could be better. A full return of partners and more stuff to do after completing the story would also improve the game greatly.
#1 - The Thousand Year Door
I think we all know why most people like this game: battling is great, partners and characters are unique and there is an excellent story. There are still some things that could be better. For example: backtracking is awful and there isn't much exploration compared to all other games in the series. There are higher highs and lower lows than in the Origami King, but I like this game more overall.
Thanks for reading.
Keep in mind that this is all just my opinion.
(This is probably the longest comment I'll ever make.)
I can respect your opinion and I also appreciate that you talked about a few problems in TTYD unlike most other people. The backtracking and linearity aren’t really stated often and I don’t know why.
@@NoJ0hnz Personally I never saw a problem with backtracking, especially since 90% of it is optional. The levels were a little more linear than PM, but the atmosphere more than made up for it.
@Cerebrum The linearity is sorta made up with the atmosphere, but not all the time. Even if it is still be best PM game, there is some backtracking that sucks. An example is Chapter 7. Trying to find General White just feels like a hassle forcing you to talk to random npc’s that lead you right back to where you first were, making it feel like a waste of time. Then there’s Chapter 4. In this chapter, you go fight Doopliss, and then get forced back to start to meet Vivian. Then you go back to the Steeple to get the letter p. Then you go all the way back again to get Doopliss back to the Steeple. And lastly you rematch him after getting back to the Steeple. You are forced to go back and forth on the same exact path multiple times and you are walking the entire time without a form of fast travel. It’s probably my least favorite chapter because of that, but most other parts of the game are still alright.

Even tho ttyd is my favorite game probably ever, it’s great to see people giving Super the love I think it truly deserves. Some people really rag on it too hard
I also love Super Paper Mario and consider it one of my favorite games!
It was my first Paper Mario game, but when I look at it a bit more objectively I must admit that its mario-bros-like battle system ruins the boss fights and makes them end in 30 seconds sometimes. Yes, the story is out of this world, but some chapters are really dry ( ex. 4-3 and 7-3).
I really like this game, but I think that Paper Mario: The thousand year door would despite having a lamer story deserve the number 1 spot more if we look at it objectively...
I personally think 4-1/4-3 and all of the climbing levels in 7 are really boring but i still love the game :P
Agreed
My favorite is actually the original. I think it's probably because I've played it so many times and I started playing at when it first came out when I was a kid so it has such a special place in my heart. But I absolutely love Super Paper Mario and I think it is a wonderful game. And story-wise I would definitely say it has the best story it actually made me cry a couple times.
So glad that spm is your favorite, it's my favorite of all time, the music, the story, the plot twists, even tho it wasn't an RPG, it is still my favorite

2:34 i have to disagree, some of the locations are very interesting
Super Paper Mario is my favorite Paper Mario game to I always love coming back to it but I'm trying to think if Super Paper Mario has the best soundtrack or Origami King, also one of your sort of partners have a story and the villain I won't spoil it but if you seen it you might know what I'm talking about and Color Splash has a secret story but it's not the main game it's sort of a side quest if you look for 5 Toads, also have you thought of making a video where you ranking the Paper Mario games based on what has the best music in the series
I should point out that SMRPG, the game Paper Mario was supposed to be a sequel to, set the groundwork for the PM combat system, with 64 refining it into something that aged better and TTYD further refining it.
Hey your that guy from mayro who was toxic
Also SMRPG is not a paper Mario game so it doesn't count
@@ttydis100thebestgame5
Did you miss the parts where I stated SMRPG is PM's predecessor (as PM was supposed to be SMRPG2) the set the groundwork for the gameplay PM (and M&L) would refine and become known for. It might as well be a Paper Mario game since Paper Mario is its spiritual successor that was planned to be a sequel.

Super Paper Mario is one of my favorite games of all time. So glad to see it getting some love after all these years!
Did you seriously just say that using a style 3 times in a row makes it stale yet proceed to say you wish they used the style they had for 3 games in a row? I get that you prefer the original style but that's just a dumb thing to say.
2 games
Super paper mario is its own thing
And when you have a system built entirely on the same mechanics but different coats of paint (instead of stickers its cards, wowie)
Which replace what unique differences you would have between rpgs from a similar series, such as new abilities, party members, bosses and enemies to fight, and so much more
Well
Just ask any Final Fantasy fan how different all the FF games are

Having more of the same is ok when the same is actually good.
Looking at modern Paper Mario or the "New" series, they're just very bland with nothing special to grab you.
Every one in the comments hate color splash, i don't know why, am i the only one that loves it?
If ain't broke dont fix it, I wasnt a huge fan of Super Paper Mario's art styles as alot of the character design was weird and abstract, like the NPCs in Flipside
@@RacingSnails64 Modern Paper Mario isn't bland at all. The Paper Aesthetic used in Origami King looks amazing, and there's much more variety and charm to it than Sticker Star. The reviewers trying to be objective but he pretty much admitted that he like the older style better, and that's the reason he said it's worse. There's nothing wrong with the new style.

Ideas for a ttyd successor
Badges: Some new ones that can apply special side effects to your attacks. Fire flower, Hammer suit, Cape Feather
Upgrade badges: Some badges oughta be upgradeable and have better attack power and new properties too
Challenges: more in depth and difficult than put of 100 trials. And every set of challenges done rewards you something great and different
Upgradeable badges: Some badges like said can be upgraded to newer better badges
Examples:
Quake Hammer to power quake then mega quake
Fire Drive Upgraded to blaze drive then inferno drive
Power bounce jump and smash to mega bounce jump and smash.
And the badges would still cost the same fp and bp. But getting said upgrades would be specific and difficult to gain requirements.
Speaking of...
Three badges in particular to add more to your fight style
Fire flower: Adds fire properties to all of Mario's attacks. Also causing burn to enemies. Some moves that were already fire based can also damage and burn armored and fire enemies.
Hammer suit: Adds hammer properties to attacks. Some moves that were already hammer based can ignore targets' defense
Cape feather: Adds air priority to all attacks, also ups attack of jump moves by 2. Moves that are jump attacks hit multiple enemies at once
Paper aesthetic level: Keep it at the same level as Thousand Year Door. That amount is just right. Not too much or too little.
Animations of characters: smooth and fluid like Thousand Year door and no white borders around the characters.
Bobby the bobomb is the best of all the partners in all the games
i argee
How? He had no original design, only one attack if I recall correctly, and you couldnt even control him. Plus he had no purpose outside of battle, like solving puzzles, retrieving items, or giving you important information. This pretty much made him useless, and he quickly got annoying from the total amount of times he got lost and ran away. He felt like more of a problem than a partner, and lacked *SO* many things the partners from the previous games had. With that said, I doubt you never even played the first two Paper Mario games, at least not TTYD.
No, Vivian is the best.
Great list.
To me, The Origami King is equal to Super Paper Mario to me, both have their major differences but have so many good qualities to make up for it, Origami King though stands out more and is my number 3.
My Rankings are
6-Sticker Star
5-Color Splash
4-Super
3-The Origami King
2-TTYD
1-Paper Mario 64
In my opinion the origami king is a little bit better than color splash, which is good, I liked color splash, but it had too much dances and songs, in the tree part it was alright, but it started being cheesy and everytime something happens mario starts dancing, it felt like people said color splash wasn't charming enough so they put all of these dances so people will say "oh this game has so much charm"
It's nice to see others who have Super Paper Mario as their favourite game of all-time.
IMO paper MARIO the origami king was one of the best games I played in a while, it’s just so good

#5: Sticker Star (Why did I put up with this garbage until the ending?)
#4: 64 (The slow pacing puts me off replaying it a little)
#3: Colour Splash (Soundtrack and visuals are good and the bosses are fun)
#2: Origami King (Funny, very clever bosses, interesting and original areas, and kinda sorta almost partners!)
#1: Super (Also my favourite game of all time. Amazing and pretty dark story, fun real-time bosses, AMAZING soundtrack, original characters, interesting areas, partners and so much more! I could go on for hours!)
Controversial opinion. Origami King is my number 2. Second to only TYD. I had an absolute blast with this game.

1. TYD
I like to call the OG Paper Mario trilogy (OG-Super) the “Mario’s Storybook” trilogy, as it’s art style, is of course, inspired by a Storybook.
While I call the modern Paper Mario trilogy (Sticker Trash-Origami King), well, Paper Mario, as of course, everything is made of Paper, and Things are a thing.
It definitely makes it easier to distinguish the two eras as different series.
I never liked the "things" I just didn't like that they were what Nintendo was advertising for ss it just made it seem like the things were made to fill up advertisements
Personally I'd consider the trilogy to be Mario RPG, Paper Mario, and Thousand Year Door. Mario RPG sets up the Star Rod that comes into play in Paper Mario.

@Low Quality Cartoons i would think maybe it would be hard to make.. specially cuz its close to stickers in a way that they stick in stuff xD also what would be the title name? I can't think of any but im sure there will be a pun in the title if a tape themed paper mario game arives xD
I think other materials like cardboard and metal could be used. Just imagine, a crossfire war between paper, cardboard and metal. They also have REALLY good opportunities with this idea, like for example, imagine if Mario had the ability to change from paper, to cardboard, to metal. Or maybe if there was an existing cardboard Mario and a metal Mario. I think it would be a really cool idea.
@@staticchimera44 a story with paper and cardboard and metal would be amazing! But probably will never happen as long as miomoto (whatever his name is) keeps screwing over his staff and not letting them have creativity in making those paper mario games :( he even said it himself! Those rpg games dont need a story! Or a proper one that is! But that doesn't mean he isnt doing a great job with letting himself and his staff atleast have good gameplay :/
This whole thing is kinda familiar with WWE but thats reaaally off topic right now xD
@@gapedandamazed6988 I do agree that it wouldn't have a very good story because of *Shigeru Miyamoto*, but that wouldn't stop them from making it a base. For example, Origami King had origami, and Sticker Star had stickers. I feel like them adding cardboard and metal as a new gimmick would be allowed by Miyamoto.
For some reason I feel like the next paper mario game is going to be way better than origami king, or is going to take yet another shift and be way, WAY worse than Sticker Star. (I honestly enjoy sticker star a lot, and I love it, I still agree it is the weakest in the series with all of its flaws).
Has anyone at your "team" already completed origami king or something?
Almost as fast as prosafia gaming
I really loved super paper mario too it was THE most emotional game I have ever played and it was a huge part of my childhood
Color splash "the environment feels uninspired"... have you really played the game? Yes there is one generic grassland level, one generic desert level, one generic forest level, and one generic volcano level. But besides that most of the levels have a unique theme
IKR! They have a train station, circus, millitary Fort, Pirate island, exotic garden (the level birdo is in), they also have a quick Sand level, and a collossum and SO MUCH MORE!
I hate how I almost never see people say that they like or hate origami king and actually think they make good points, most of the time when people hate it, they dont really explain why, just saying "its not like the first ones" and when I see people that like it they always say how its so much better than color splash and I can see they haven't even played color splash, they say "the writing is great", "the locations are unique", "the game is beautiful", "the exploration is fun" and all Im saying is color splash has all of these things. Only here and there I see people actually say why they dont like it or people that played color splash and say that the battle system and story are better in the origami king and stuff
DID THIS MAN JUST DARE TO SAY ORIGAMI KING HAD A BAD STORY
It's a common opinion, generally based on the not great endgame.
Wii U and Mii I haven’t finish it and I heard the story was the best part of it
I thought the story was boring. Most people like it because they've been given garbage for so long that they think it's great just because it is a little better than the last 2.
I thought the story was pretty good tbh
I don't really know how people can say TOK has a story worse than PM64. I absolutely love PM64, but that story is literally just another "oh no Bowser has Peach again!" plot with some extra things tossed in. Other than Olly's admittedly STUPID motive I thought Origami's plot was pretty solid by Mario standards.
This man has some TASTE
Boy, I couldn't ever agree more with the "no need for that paper thing obsession" you just mentioned. I know the characters are supposed to be made out of paper and even on great games like TTYD there's a lot of transitions and paper-related abilities, but even with all of that, the characters didn't have a white outline and in no circumstance (that I can remember of) you would see characters explicitly referring to themselves as paper, or running out of paint like in color-splash. That's one of the main reasons why the only paper mario games I've played are PM64 and PMTTYD. I wish we could get more PM games that are more similar to the first ones.
It took people thirteen years to realize the glory that was super paper Mario
I’ve got some amazing memories playing Super Paper Mario. I was 8 when I got it, and it was my first Mario game (other than Mario Kart). Even my mom played it, and she was amazing at it. My favorite memory was sitting in my Mario hat with my brother in his Luigi hat cheering on our mom as she got through the Pit of 100 Trials for the second time in Flopside, 100%ing the game on her save. It’s one of the reasons I refuse to get rid of my Wii. It’ll always top my list as the best game I’ve ever played.

My *PERSONAL* List:
PS: The following lists may contain *SPOILER* about games, so read them only if you have played certain titles.
6) *Paper Mario Sticker Stars:* Probably what everyone liked least... And for the right reasons I would add. The plot is not that great, the difficulty is low and the longevity is much shorter than other PM games. I didn't particularly like the Sticker Mode as a base for attacks, however I find it very original. Despite the downsides, I liked and enjoyed the game, albeit less than the others.
5) *Paper Mario Color Splash:* It shares many of the negative points with SS, that is the plot so-so, the low difficulty and the way in which you have to attack (taken evenly by SS, only instead of the stickers you use cards). I liked this game too, little more than SS, but much less than the others.
4) *Super Paper Mario:* Many may disagree with me that I put SPM in fourth place. There it fits, after all mine is a personal list. Why did I put SPM in fourth place? It is soon said. Although the plot is the absolute best of the whole series and many of the characters are fantastic (Dimentio is one of my favorite antagonists) The gameplay did not convince me much. It is no longer an RPG like the first 2, but it is a kind of RPG-Platform. Not a bad idea, but this type of gameplay (where Mario is used almost always in 2D) greatly ruins the exploration factor that was in the first 2 games. It felt like playing a Super Mario Bros more than a Paper Mario. The secondary missions then are few and the fact of not having companions like in the first 2 games, I do not like (yes, there are the Pixl, but more than companions, they are tools, they will speak only once and then they will never speak again). I liked that 4 characters can be used (even though the only one almost always necessary is mario, since every 2 seconds you only have to go in 3D, and therefore changing characters all the time makes this procedure rather tedious). I enjoyed the plot (which I repeat being the best of all) the bosses (especially Dimentio, Mimi and O'Chunks) and the various secondary characters. I didn't really like The second Flipside Pit of 100 Trials and the Sammer's Kingdom Duel of 100 (a third version [even more mediocre] of the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials). In conclusion it is an excellent game, but for me it remains in fourth place.
3) *Paper Mario Origami King:* Most recent PM, deserves to be third on my list. I enjoyed many things about this game: The fighting system (I find it very original due to the fact that first you have to solve a kind of puzzle before fighting), even if it follows in the footsteps of SS and CS, it has a fighting system of its own .The storyline isn't quite top-notch, but it's enjoyable plot, very beautiful and with some really tragic points (like Bobby's death almost made me cry) or the fact that some of the bosses are LITERALLY office objects (like a pair of scissors, a box of crayons). etc.) Brilliant. In addition, the exploration factor here is very high (there is even a part, where you have to explore islands in the Zelda Wind Waker style). I didn't really appreciate Olly's motive. He seems very forced (as well as stupid). I also enjoyed the real-time battles (like against the papier mache monsters or the Gooper Blooper). I loved this game and therefore it deserves to be in third place.
2) *Paper Mario 64:* The first Paper Mario ever made. What about this game? There are many things to say, but let's go in order. The plot, well, nice, the classic plot where Bowser kidnaps the princess and mario has to save her. Okay, maybe it's not as simple as it seems, in fact Bowser has stolen the Star Rod, a scepter that allows its owner to make every wish come true. Mario must save the 7 star spirits so that with their help, Mario can defeat Bowser. The length of the game is insane for a Nintendo 64 game (it took me 28 hours to finish it). The graphics are also wonderful, very colorful and with well-drawn and made characters. The music is beautiful and very abientali and adapts to the various worlds present in the game. This game also includes the companions who will follow mario during the course of the adventure, each with their own personality and with the abilities of him (although I don't really like that after they are hit, they are knocked out for a few turns). Even the star spirits that will be saved will lend a hand with their powers (although there are only 2 or 3 really useful star spirits). The bosses are all original enemies of the game (except Bowser of course) and are all well characterized (especially Jr. Troopa and the TMNT... Er, the Koopa Bros). A great fun game still 20 years after its release. It deserves second place by right.
1) *Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door:* What about this game? 3 words: I LOVE IT. Ok, that said, I'll explain why in my opinion PM TTYD deserves the first place. So, this game takes everything that is beautiful about the first Paper Mario and amplifies it to the highest levels. The plot (although lower than SPM) is original. A group of "Terrorists?" is trying to awaken a witch's spirit and use Princess Peach's body to make the witch's spirit have a body again. This witch is locked in a portal (hence the title of the game) which needs 7 Star Gems to open. These star gems are similar to Star Spirits, but unlike the latter, in order to use the Star Gems, you must use the game controls. The length of the game is high (it took me 42 hours to 100% finish it). The variety of levels is good, we have other locations besides the usual jungles and snow-covered countries (although the latter are present) such as A Battle Arena, an Area always shrouded in twilight, A chapter on a Train, The moon etc. Bosses are cool, just think that the first boss is a dragon the size of 100 mario times. They are many and all different and original (except Bowser [obviously] and an updated version of a robot led by Lord Crump [one of the main bosses of the game]). The battles are carried out on a stage complete with spectators, in fact the latter will give you star energy (which is needed to use the Star Gems) if you perform the action commands well. Finally, the characters are characterized much better than the first PM (just know that Goombella's ability to analyze enemies is mandatory for 100% of the game). What have I forgotten? oh right, that in the game there is the Mafia, there are scammers, thieves and some side missions a bit shady (in one you have to bring a "Secret Object" Ad a Goomba hidden in an alley). Absolutely the best game in the Paper Mario series.
