    I had two kids ..I didn't even bother to pack much the second time ... I literally just had chapstick,change of clothes for me and baby and toiletries and a charger. Some moms on CZcams suggest waaaaay too much , you will hardly get a chance to touch your hospital bag lol .

    Great list! You may also want to bring: makeup if you wear it regularly (we had lots of visitor after I had my baby and makeup made me feel better so I looked a little presentable), your own pads if you don't like the hospital ones (I much preferred always infinity overnight pads), depends underwear for women (a lot more secure than the hospital mesh panties in my opinion), breast pads (in case your milk comes in while in the hospital so if you leak you don't soak your bra), your baby's baby book (I brought mine and got the nurses to stamp his footprints directly into the book), your maternity leave paperwork if it still needs to be filled out, flip flops for the shower and for walking around the room, extra clothes for you and whoever is staying with you (we needed up staying an extra night due to complications and the extra clothes were needed), dry shampoo so you look presentable if you don't feel like washing your hair, hair brush and hair ties

      Clothes in newborn and 0-3 months size for baby (we were expecting a large baby and bought mostly 0-3 with just a couple of newborn sizes but he was born early so all he could wear was the newborn size), witch hazel pads to tuck in between your perineum after vaginal delivery (trust me you are going to be SORE and the tucks pads were a life saver for me, the numbing spray they gave me only worked for 30 minutes max but the witch hazel pads helped so much with the soreness)

    Another important must have is an extension cord. My charger was never long enough to have by me while plugged in. I brought an extension cord and could always have my phone right next to me. Especially with a c section because it’s a lot harder to be getting up.

    My hospital provided everything basic that you could need. Take a tour of your hospital’s labor and delivery floor and see what’s provided. Personally the first time I packed far too much and it was more of a bother than anything. I simply wanted to snuggle my newborn. The next two it was a change of clothes, my very basic toiletries (hospital provide toothbrush, paste etc, not deodorant). It’s all up to the individual but it was crazy to see how much stuff people drag to the hospital. Enjoy the moments not the stuff you bring. Oh I have to write in the baby book, I have to do this and that. No, just relax and take in those first days and ENJOY THEM.

    I would like to add a noise machine to help you sleep (new moms tend to wake at every sound baby makes), and a folder to keep all of the paperwork you will be getting safe. An extra bag to take home all of the things the hospital gives you is a huge help too, or presents from family and friends.

    Tip with toiletries:
    you don't need to walk with a average size shampoo as seen in this video, conditioner, soap etc... (this is your personal choice).
    You can get a small bottle & add 50/50 shampoo & conditioner. shake it up and u have liquid soap to wash your hair plus body and saves space and time to wash with so many products. 👌 you're most like in there for 3-4days. only once you might wash your hair. its also easier getting a fresh bath wen in labor, wash your hair at home. this is just an helpful tip...
    most comfy things are:
    big undies (4-5 piece is enough). you will need them even after a few months PP. also nice for wen u are on u period (PP). and combs, hair tie, hair clips for your bangs or to get those little fine/short hair out of your face. 😊

      In my country (Norway) they tell you that it is important to eat and drink. They say it gives you more energy and a faster and easier delivery. So when you get into the hospital they make sure you eat some snacks while the contractions still are mild, and if you are not able to eat they might give you some dextrose tablets. If you have a fast delivery you might not need any food, but you never know it could take some hours and then you need the energy and you can focus on giving birth and not the rumbling from the stomach

      @@hafokagang4573 Well congrats Momma! I pray you have a smooth and safe delivery. Honestly, with both my deliveries (I have a 3 year old girl and a now 10 month old girl) I rarely even looked in my pile of heaping stuff (all super stuffed in my suitcase). What was most useful was poise adult undies for the bleeding, face wash and lotion, deodorant, some nuts, dried fruit, and water. Also two sets of very loose comfy clothes that you don't mind blood getting on, and non skid footwear or slippers that don't skid. As for the star of the show, your beautiful bundle will need a swaddle cloth, diapers (though hospitals typically provide diapers and wipes) a first outfit to take baby home in and any sweet little things you may want to take pictures in the hospital in. If You wear makeup and want to take pics, you can bring em' too. There is probably more items I missed, but those were the only things i remember at both births. Depending on what kind of birth you give, always feel free to ask your OB or mid wife what they recommend. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Take care, and hopefully there is an update on how your delivery experience went.💗💗💗 OH....and bring your phone charger!!!

    • @emilyhamilton8141
      @emilyhamilton8141 Před 7 lety +33

      Shannon La Nasa www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/265206.php There's actually no proven evidence of eating during labour to cause risks. It actually benefits the mother to have a light meal and fluids. Especially if she's doing it all natural and doesn't have an iv which is what most women do who have water births. Hydration is extremely important. Hospitals do lots of unnecessary things it's really ridiculous. Women should have a choice to eat or drink during labour.

    • @cyanichorizons2660
      @cyanichorizons2660 Před 7 lety +37

      I think women should be allowed to eat during labor, but the reason they aren't is incase they need an emergency C section. The rule is the same for ANY surgery you might get. It could cause complications in surgery, which is obviously a big no no. But in the case of natural birth, it's really so that you don't poop, but in all honesty, no matter what, you're going to poop on the doctor. There isn't really a way around it. So in short, you're not supposed to incase of surgery. It sucks, but you have to follow through with it or you can risk your health, and the babys.

Could not even use my body was as they were telling me the whole time "Okay you need to hurry up.", "You cannot take long in there.", "You do not have time to wash your body." I felt so disgusted because I didn't get the chance to wash down there or my pits. I felt horrible. 😭😭
    I'm no not ready to go through it again now I'm 5 months along with baby #2 and I dread going to that hospital as everything you do is limited and such. But giving birth is such a wonderful experience.

      silpa das Just my mom. But everybody had left me to do my thing and the nurse I had was really rude and rushed me into doing everything when I didn't feel right. She even got mad that I accidentally bled all over the floor and was muttering: "I wish I got paid enough for this." While cleaning it up. The nurses don't have to necessarily clean up good, that's the housepersons job. If I'm treated that way again when this baby is due, I will say something because omg giving birth is tiring and after you have no control over your legs and body because how weak it becomes from pushing.

  • @jesusistheonlywaytothefath9020

    You really need one of those really long chargers. Both of the hospitals I gave birth at the outlet was kind of behind the bed up on the wall. Loose night gowns and robes are great to wear too.

    I had my kid way earlier than expected due to unexpected complications and didn't have time to pack before being admitted. People were not kind about my unpreparedness as a "poor" mom. I was shamed by one of my nurses. Is there a way to spread awareness that not every situation can be prepared for whether financial or health?

      I think that nurses need to apply more human compassion for others. Why would someone shame you at a time when you are in pain? That is just cruel. I have heard of this shaming before for a forgotten roll of tissue. That is why they say start packing the moment you find out you are pregnant, but how many mothers do that? Ah sorry you went through that but look at this way... you got your little treasure so that is that!

    I legit used nothing from my bag except the clothes I went home in and the phone charger. I didn't have an epidural but most of labor I just laid there with my eyes closed and breathed through it like I was on another planet lol. I didn't feel up to showering while there and the hospital provided absolutely everything else baby and I needed! Definitely packing lighter this time 😅

  • @kristacameron7039
    @kristacameron7039 Před 2 lety

    Literally bring travel size toiletries. More than likely your going home as fast as possible . And your going to be in a hospital gown for the whole time so all you need is clothes to go home really and your first special outfit for your baby according to weather and proper car seat . Long phone cord snacks for dad and your cell phones. Idk who brings a professional photographer especially during covid when i had my son . Or now that visitor rules are so strict due to covid. .but a good camera instead of phone if you insist you need it . Good grippy slippers was a must for me even tho you will get hospital slipper socks they just dont feel secure enough for me personally i like a tighter sock i have very small feet so i wear my own socks and slippers . Unless its an orthopedic pillow you absolutely need to sleep you dont need to bring pillows maybe your own pillowcase if u want to feel like your in your own environment . Headphones are a good idea ..sound machines are not there will literzlly be people in and out of your room from the moment you arrive . You might get a several hours of sleep but it will be interrupted anyway . I packed two outfits very comfy sweats just in case i was there longer than expected and only needed one days worth of clothes .and i could have worn home what i came in wearing tbh bc it was still very clean as i was clean when arrived and immediately got into a gown . After you have your baby your not going to be getting up right away as you more than likely have an iv and have things on your ankles like pressure cuffs to keep blood flowing and prevent clots ...remember if your in a hospital it can awhile for the dr to order things like having them taken off . So your not getting up very quickly . Also your going to bleed alot once you stand up again so take that for what its worth . And afterwards asap my baby was with me all day and night periodically getting his tests done and his in my case circumcision . .thats when i took my shower . If you are alone especially might be good to know that you will have your baby with you so right from the beginning you will be lack of sleep and balancing your baby with your needs . If you ask the nurses they will take your baby so you can shower or sleep but they will be bringing him back for regular breast feeding so timing helps too. I watched a ton of these vids beforehand and i packed very light for both me and husband and still didnt need it all. I hope this helps someone who is questioning what to bring . These vids are helpful but if you absolutely can live without it for a cpl days then dont bring it .
