      It is nearly a crime - the way they abused the former lead characters. Minimalizing them to mere caricatures of their former glory. The Critical Drinker properly dissects these recent crapola deliveries from Disney. JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy should be removed from the movie industry.

      To not have a scene of all the originals together is beyond criminal. A team of middle schoolers with a camera, while not having a Disney budget or resources, would at least make a more heartfelt trilogy of films.

      Well, on the defense of Force Awakens, the death of Han Solo was pretty intense and sad, it was unexpected, and also to see all the different emotions going through Kylo Ren's face during that moment was good acting on his part. I agree with what you guys are saying but at the same time let's not shit on everything either...

    • @eightykakes15

      @@lajeandom It's not about sh1tting on anything... In fact, I have nothing against originals dying... Han should have died in Act 2, not 1. It would mirror the danger he was in during TESB. There's just too much finality in the early part of the story while they keep pushing these bland new characters to the forefront.

      The thing is, the great story in Wagner's ring operas, Lord of the Rings, Narnia and Star Wars is that "everything is secular now", but the memory of the supernatural and metaphysical made it feel deep and significant. Now that the memory is gone, "everything is secular" can only mean "everything is political".

      TRoS was much much better then TFA/TLJ. And fortunately had less agenda and SJW crap in it that it wanted to force push down our throat. It also gave respect to Luke, Palpatine etc.
      But still the old trilogy is more like Shakespeare against Mickey Mouse.
      The only interesting/memorable new character in the new trilogy for me is Kylo. He has his struggles and finaly returns to the light. Also its strange that healing is a light side power now as Yoda explained one should let go and Palpatine explains that keeping the ones you love from dying by manipulating the force is a darkside ability. We have seen the Sister on Mortis give her life though and leaving some of her essence within Ashoka. So in this sence Rey bears the name Skywalker through Bens sacrifice.
      Also some other things could have been solved better. e.g. the massive new fleet could have been an old Sith fleet burried on Exogul that Palpatine just rebuilt with robots. They would have looked different, but still propably had made more sence.
      Also the dagger made no sence. They should have rather found an old recording of some dude that concluded through examination of the DS plans that Palpatine must have had one or more of these way finders in a hidden chamber on the DS and one may still be there to recover.

I hope the destruction of one of the greatest I.P.’s in the history of cinema, the humiliation of characters beloved by whole generations, the perversion of the heartfelt moral lessons taught by the original trilogy, the nullification of all the struggles and triumphs and sacrifices that came before, and the brutal and permanent division of the Star Wars fan base was all worth it for you. I hope it was worth it to have your little moments, to push your half baked politics and current year agendas into a story that was once timeless and universal, and I hope it brought you real pride and fulfillment to mock and belittle, and put down anyone who dared to question your actions. I know your pride and egos will never allow you to publicly admit just how badly you screwed this one up. I know you’ll never have the backbone and humility to take responsibility for this failure, but lying awake in your beds, in the small hours of the night, with only the darkness, and your even darker thoughts for company, maybe you’ll pause to reflect for a moment, on what you did. Maybe you’ll finally realize that despite all the money and the hollow accolades from people just as vacuous as yourselves, your most enduring legacy will be one of absolute failure. If anything good at all has come out of this disastrous mess, its that the scale of your incompetence only underscores the superiority of all the movies you tried so hard to bury, and forget. Lacking with less money, more primitive technology, and fewer resources, George Lucas achieved something you’ll never, ever equal. A legacy to be proud of. And believe me, you’re gonna have a very long time to think about that. Anyway, that’s all I have for today, go away now.” - Critical Drinker

    @lordtornado3321 Před rokem +241

    Some wise guy said this on the other side of CZcams:
    "It actually all started with the Force Awakens. It literally undid everything the original heroes achieved. Relagated Luke to an island, leia to a failed general, and Han back to his smuggling ways. Turned a rebellion that won back into a small pack of "resistance" It also narrowed the world down again to just Skywalkers and recloned Vader and the empire in Kylo and the first order. I don't know why so many people fail to see how terrible of a setup TFA was for the rest of the sequels"
    And it sums it up perfectly IMO.

    • @glauberglousger6643
      @glauberglousger6643 Před rokem +2

      It was a terrible setup,
      Not impossible to solve, but something better would’ve been preferable
      (Make Snoke trained under a holocron, hell, If they have to, make it Palpatine’s,
      Luke was simply too far away to save Han, however, he knows that someone has found the map, sensed Leia, or something, or just have him arrive at the resistance
      The first order are the remnants of the empire, and so many people are still sorting things out, it’s why the first order rose
      These are just some ideas I came up with on the spot, not impossible to fix, but probably ends up being the worst of the trilogy, with 2 being second best, and the last one?
      Much better, assuming the first half of two is left answering questions, and parts of 3 as well)

      The trouble begins right in the opening crawl of TFA. "The First Order has risen from the ashes of the Empire."

    • @lordtornado3321
      @lordtornado3321 Před rokem +6

      @@KneelB4Bacon This "explanation" required multiple book in the old EU and even then remnants of the Empire kinda collapsed all over again. The remarkable difference was that there was an actual NEW REPUBLIC reformed by the ex-rebels. This never was even mentioned in the disney sequels.

    • @KneelB4Bacon
      @KneelB4Bacon Před rokem +10

      @@lordtornado3321 Yup. Rian wanted a reboot of "A New Hope" right down to "Rebels vs Empire" but the existing universe didn't allow him to make the movie he wanted to make. So he just said, "f*ck it" and put that nonsense in the title crawl and called it a day.
      When Lando shows up with those hundreds of ships in ROS, JJ has no explanation for them beyond that awful, "they're just . . . people" line. Both JJ and Rian did NO world building in all three movies. We never see the Rebels massing ships or making plans. So at the end of the THIRD movie, we STILL know nothing about the Republic, other than that it was nothing more than those six planets that JJ blew up in the first movie. "They're just people" is the only thing JJ CAN say. Also, JJ just wanted to have his big space battle, so explanations weren't important to him. His only criteria for writing scenes is "wouldn't it be cool if . . ."

      People acting like all of a sudden Star Wars got messed up. Haha. It hasn't actually been good in almost 40 years. Although very derivative, at least Force Awakens was a good effort at rebooting the franchise. Last Jedi imploded the new Trilogy and Rise of Skywalker is a rushed mess.
      Btw, I was a Star Wars fan 40 years ago. I saw the first film in '79 (rereleased to my local theater). A New Hope and Empire were incredibly important in my life. I was the biggest Star Wars fan ever. But, it was all down hill from Jedi onward.

      @Mozartkugel Před 6 měsíci +2

      @Apfelnudel: I can beat that. I haven’t even watched 8 yet, since 7 was already very weird. They did not explain a single shit in this movie and everything that happens happens so randomly, because the plot wants it to. Like there’s a new empire aka New Order now. Like how? And the resistance is basically beaten. Why and by what? And there’s a Stormtrooper who suddenly switches to the rebels in a matter of minutes and has then no problem killing dozens of his former teammates. Really? So he meets a guy who should logically be very sceptical about the sudden change of minds of his new found pal, but fuck it. They’re best buddies now. So they flee and not only crash on a desert planet (how original), no, one of em just vanishes and the other immediately stumbles upon female MC 101. Of course, they instantly become best friends, too. WTF?
      Then they’re being attacked and flee using the Falcon which just happens to stand around there, ready for takeoff. Are you kidding me? Needless to say, Female MC 101 knows exactly how to fly this thing better than anyone in the galaxy and they escape. How convenient.
      Than they get caught by smugglers who just so happen to pass by, and guess what? It’s Han and Chewie of all people in the galaxy! Some idiotic monster scene later, they have some nostalgic blahblah and fly off to a bar, because that’s what I‘d want to do at this point, too….
      The point where I completely lost it, was when CGI bartender-granny gave Female MC 101 Luke‘s lightsaber with no explanation whatsoever. Where did she get it from? How did she know what it is? Why does she give it to a total stranger? WHAT IS THIS SHIT?
      I wasn’t even sad, when they killed off Han, my most beloved childhood hero besides He-Man. He was better off this way honestly.
      How you can fuck this up in so many monumental ways is just as much beyond me as the fact that people paid money to see 8 after they already experienced this clusterfuck of a movie.

    I'd already forgotten about the movie-- it was a one-time deal that I couldn't wait until it was over. The movie was hackneyed where the characters were little more than props and where the constraints of energy/force use became boundless and unbelievable. Star Wars has veered well into the magic realm but even magic realms need rules to be comprehensible. Star Wars for me will forever be the first 3 movies. Disney cannot churn out enough content to make me forget the inspired awe I felt when watching a New Hope.

Coming home, our bus had problems and we had to switch to a different one whose route ended about 2 miles from our house; we walked home, uphill all the way, finally getting there close to midnight by which time my brother was in tears because he was so tired. And it was still one of the best nights of my entire life. Seeing that movie convinced me what was possible in storytelling and film making. It made me desperate to see the final part of the trilogy. @@jamescarter3708 Game of Thrones is not quite the same. George Lucas had an outline for this 'sequel trilogy' which was ignored by KK et al, because they knew better than the creator, or so they thought.
      GoT was, with hindsight, crippled at the outset by the omission of certain plot threads (eg, young Griff - his omission meant the whole Dorne plot went nowhere fast, besides everything else - and Jayne Poole), probably for reasons of cost, at a time when the show's budget was still relatively small; and by the seeming inability of the author to further his narrative during the entire eight year run of the show. The creation of the Night King by the showrunners, again with hindsight, did immense damage to the show at its endgame because having to vanquish not just one but two major foes in a handful of episodes reduced both antagonists to ciphers.

The dagger, which was made thousands of years ago, and so existed before the wreckage. The wreckage, which hasn't shifted at all in that time, despite being in a raging ocean. The fact Rey had to be stood in that exact spot, for such an alignment to work. The fact that she even realized that the dagger would line up with the wreckage at all... @Shane this. This is my problem. He can't write anything original. He can't write a good twist, let alone think it's a good idea to throw to what would normally be major ones about lineage into the same trilogy (Ben Solo and Rey Palpatine). But most importantly, he didn't plan ahead. Yes, I know he wasn't supposed to direct this one. But it's a trilogy, supposedly with a common story thread. With 3 different directors/writers, they needed to make that outline of what story beats to hit in each part, and they didn't think it needed to be done.
      He had Kasdan for Force Awakens but I don't really know how much was him or JJ. Han dying I'm pretty sure was Lawrence, but beyond that, I'm not sure.
      JJ, this entire thing is on you. Not Kathleen, dare I say not entirely Disney, you. You wrote Rian into a box. You caused that to happen. And because of it, you were put into an even smaller box. You didn't outline. You didn't plan. You just said fuck it and went.
      And now, you broke it. The very thing you love. The very thing that inspired you to become what you are.
      And you destroyed it.

      I dunno. It seems kinda two-faced. Back before episode 7, people frequently disrespected George Lucas (justly, IMO) for the prequels. They pointed out that a lot of the success of the OT came from the people around George challenging, changing, and improving upon his vision. And now that these new movies exist, it's become fashionable to pretend he was perfect. Some people in Disney know how to deliver good Star Wars content, and I suspect they'll handle future films. What they did with 7-9 was regrettable, but I think they'll learn. If Lucas was still doing them, they would all be like the prequels.

The Jedi Order would imprison him in the Unknown Regions for thousands of years. Snoke should have been the inspiration for the Sith Order. The remnants of the Empire find his prison and release him from bondage. He starts the First Order in order seek revenge against the Jedi. The Force Awakens fight should have ended in a draw with Kylo and Rey with the earth split between them and a stare down. Kylo does not remove his mask until episode 9. Luke Skywalker is a bad ass old Jedi using the Force to take down ships. Leia can use the Force but under more logical context. He should be on the island planet studying the ancient Jedi texts to discover a way to destroy Snoke. The answer is a combination of the Light and Dark side Force users to defeat him.

You may want to run your head under some cold water so you can wake up and rejoin the rational society again. Mark Hamill was strong-armed into keeping negative comments about the movies to himself by Disney. Before Disney lawyers had a little talk with him, he was saying he fundamentally disagreed with the direction Rian Johnson took the character. Your closing statement hit painfully HARD... it was everything I've been wanting to say since I took my dad to The Force Awakens, the two of us excited for the long-overdue continuation of the Original Trilogy... only to sit there looking at the sad expression on my dad's face as Han Solo was stabbed through the guts and thrown down a garbage cute. 20 years prior he had introduced me to Star Wars as a little boy, letting me sneak into the living room while my mom was asleep so I could watch Empire Strikes Back on cable. It was like having ice cream for the first time... Star Wars was something magical. Watching Luke desperately reach out with the force to his lightsabre gave me goosebumps. Later, I wore the damn cartridge out playing Rogue Squadron on N64.
    I didn't bond with the Prequels as "my generation's Star Wars", but appreciated them because they at least have a genuine Star Wars vibe. They were a fun adventure, Ian was sinister as Palpatine, Ewan did a fantastic job as Obi-Wan and when he tells a dying Anakin that he was his brother and loved him... you feel genuine heartache. The Prequels deserve respect. But the Sequel Trilogy... absolutely gutted every Star Wars fan I know. We all went as a group to Last Jedi and rode home in the car with PTSD from Luke's death. From then on, the one guy at work who liked Last Jedi was run out of the job and Ep9 was DOA to us. The consensus (like your closing statement) is that the Sequels were a deliberate, malicious and systematic dismantling of the Original Trilogy. The Rebellion was pointless. Han Solo failed his family and was murdered by his son. Luke Skywalker betrayed his principles and died pointlessly. Vader's sacrifice was in vain. R2D2 went from saving the primary and supporting cast 18 times in the first 6 films, to doing NOTHING. You can throw up "conspiracy theorist" accusations if you want, but it's in the playbook to destroy a culture's heroes and icons... Han Solo - *DEAD* Luke Skywalker - *DEAD* Wolverine - *DEAD* Ghostbusters - *REPLACED* Iron Man - *DEAD* John Connor - *DEAD* soon James Bond - *REPLACED* .
    Heartbreaking to see what has become of Star Wars, the arrogance of the people who did it and the cooing of the useful idiots who defend them. I grew up in the late 90's when only the Original Trilogy and a handful of games existed... I wish I could just go back. I guess I'll have do what many people do: consider films like Dark Fate and the Star Wars Sequels as "alternate universe" and illegitimate. This shit bothered me enough to result in one of the longest posts I've ever made in 12+ years on CZcams. Thank you for this video and for being one of the many out there vocally standing up to this crap. I've been reading the book "Inside The Star Wars Empire: A Memoir" and learning just how godly of an accomplishment the Original Trilogy was; a monumental effort by master craftsman who worked themselves to exhaustion performing miracles. Look into it, people. *LONG LIVE LUKE SKYWALKER AND THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY!*

      This is an excellent insight into the film, the original trilogy, and the impact Star Wars had on two generations.
      I saw the first movie in the theatre in the summer of ‘77.
      I took my children to see the second trilogy.
      My son took me to see the third trilogy.
      As a Star Wars fan for more than 40 years, I disliked The Force Awakens, I hated The Last Jedi, and I was expecting to hate The Rise of Skywalker - but the movie was pretty good, and most of the disrespectful elements of The Last Jedi have been reversed.
      If The Rise of Skywalker is judged as a stand-alone effort, it is not great, but not bad - not George Lucas caliber, but better than the other Disney debacles.
