Shoutout to Tom for being the only one to know Pink Floyd
Giancarlo Oprins yess I love pink floyd!
Giancarlo Oprins bruh, that one dude who never heard the song before, killed me a little inside. Like what
I was expecting Eric to know it, kinda disappointing
Not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed.
Love Tom for knowing this.
Yes, Thank you!
Fun Fact: A "rhapsody" is a song that has no repeating parts (like the chorus in most songs). The more you know...
Yes, 13th Floor Elevetors, Dream Theater, Tool, Opeth, Porcupine Tree don't have "most songs". The more you know...
They all knew Bohemian Rhapsody and Queen. Fantastic. My 13 yr old granddaughter loves this song and will sing to it. But, all these years later everyone still loves Freddie and Queen.
You wonder what Freddie thinks from above seeing how he is still making an impact on new generations and still loved.
I was born in 2010, but I love Queen. I even have greatest hits 1 and 2 records. I’m currently trying to listen to one album every morning, hoping to learn all of them. R.I.P. Freddie Mercury, we also love Brian, John, and Roger!
Ahh them not knowing Pink Floyd hurt me inside
TheBigfoot I am an Indian, forget rock music, I never even had English Song influence in my life. Tbh it seemed weird to others if anyone was listening to Western Music over here back in the day. Glad I discovered Pink Floyd when I was in college accidentally & of course by a couple of suggestions. A part of me just died when people couldn't recognize Comfortably Numb. What the actual fuck!

Dark Side of the Moon was so popular. It was played tons by us in high school in the mid 70s. along with Led Zep's Stairway to Heaven. Hearing Pink Floyd, regardless of when something came out I still think of high school
Did you notice they showed the album cover for The Wall at the end of this segment? @@DianeLake-sw3ym
I never thought Donna Summer would be underrated. Yet here we are.
I wasn't much of a disco fan back in the 70's. In fact, I had a "Disco Sucks" bumper sticker. You are right, though, believing she was not underrated selling 100 million LP's world wide. That tells me the world rated her one of the highest selling artists of all time.
Sigh, totally agree. Arguably the artist with the greatest set of pipes from the seventies.
Listen to McArthur Park Suite from the album Live and more, It still holds up today.

That is not the kid's fault that is a fundamental breakdown of the structure of society.
I actually got mad for a minute about that.

Without a doubt the 70's was the greatest decade of rock ever. It will never be surpassed. If you didn't live through it, you can't ever know it.
I did and I totally agree with you.
I think that the 70's was the greatest decade for every genre with the exception of country. I think the greatest decade for country was the 90's.
@@irvintib Metal and pop were probably the 80s more than 70s

Yes
And you gotta listen to the B side
Hey Dragon...can you believe that when the song first came out they actually wanted them to actually cut the song down to 3 or 4 minutes long? That would be horrifying. That would be like trying to cut down Purple Rain or November Rain or Stairway To Heaven...OMG!!!
The Pink Floyd pass makes me wince.
Happy to see that everyone knows queen ♥️🤘
Lol Freddie had an amazing voice, and personality, and the rest of the guys could play the hell out of their instruments. Too bad they didn't have some better songs to show that off.
BRUH everyone should know Bohemian Rhapsody. It’s a classic.

I wonder how many would have known about Queen if there was never a movie made about Freddie. Likewise, I am surprised that not everyone got Elton John's Rocket Man after the Movie about HIM!
This video was made before rocket man and bohemian rhapsody came out
I only knew Elton John's Rocketman because Family Guy parodied it. That and Cold Heart by Dua Lipa.
Exsqueeze me? Baking powder? Wayne's World, Wayne's World, Party Time, Excellent . . .
I have found that many younger people were well aware of Queen before the movie and loved their music. However, I also found that Bohemian Rhapsody had a bigger impact on younger people from the movie Wayne's World.
After that movie the song became a standard listen for everyone.
I love how everyone knows bohemian rhapsody. Freddie would love it. Long live Queen! We miss you freddie!
My heart was crushed when only tom knew it was comfortably numb...
There should be an episode of reacting to all the songs that Don from Elders react has helped produce. I want to know them, and I'd love to see how many are recognized
I'm an older Gen X'er, and had a lot of Boomer Rock played at the expense of my age group. Nothing wrong with those groups, but having to relive the 1960s and the 1970s got aggravating. Hell, even I have flashbacks of 'Nam, and I wasn't there.....
I'm all right if younger people don't know these groups, but what I do wish is that Millenials and Gen Zers had groups had players their age with similar playing and writing chops. With the technology today, that should be happening.
I'm a boomer and I listened to my parent's music, it's called passing music down.
@@5117danielle OK Boomer.
I'd expect that kind of comment from you. It's called condescension, which means talking down to your level.
My daughter is 9 years old, and I do have hope for her. She mentioned she likes "pop music" now and named a couple of groups. I asked her "Are any of them as good as Pink Floyd?" She gave me an instant and honest answer by admitting "No"
I laughed and said to her "To be fair, not many bands EVER are even close to as good as Pink Floyd though"
My Niece used to hang out with my mom and mom loved 70s music. The soft stuff. I was a teenager then and she was no fan of hard rock. But, liked the soft stuff like Rocky Mountain High. My niece is in her 20s now and loves listening to the same stuff as my mom used to.
I'm a younger gen x'er I grew up with alot of 60s and 70s music my parents and boomer family members grew up with ie the doors jimi Hendrix love the harder stuff and still do like Zeppelin Sabbath Deep Purple Rush and Diamond Head which brought in the thrash metal movement that was to come in the 80s
I miss the 70's but the best times of my life was the 80's!
Def a 80s person
what was good about it
How do they not know Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd?
ikr
For real that song is legendary
i don't
this is the proof that bohemian rhapsody trascends space and time because all these songs were pretty famous but THAT everybody knew without a doubt
No, I think just because a lot of movies/shows use it. Everyone knew "lets get it on" for the same reason.
that would have definitely played into it, but notice how only 3 people knew who Marvin Gaye was! and Marvin Gaye was a pretty big deal if you ask me.
Storm Bey somes shows/movies uses a lot of songs, but you will only remember the ones that really takes your attention
you are fucking stupid
@Storm Bey - yes and no. Movies do have a hand in keeping some songs in the pop culture radar, but with your example of let's get in on, they recognize the song, but not necessarily like it enough to learn the lyrics or the artist, and that was evidenced here. Queen with Bohemian Rhapsody on the other hand is iconic in its own right and merit, and most of them had the same reaction of "really? you expect me to not know this song?" for a reason. Some songs just do that despite their age. You have to give credit where credit is due.
The guy with the pinkish t shirt , started humble , turn up 2B one of the greatests cuz he made Dark Side of the Moon his fav....Hell Yeah !!! 💎💎💎
That's Tom
The kids are pretty sharp and culturally aware. I don't know about the music today anywhere near as much as they know of the music of yesterday.
I have auggestion, "do they know covers", when you give them a covered song and the objective is to tell the artists of both original and cover
That’s a really good idea, there’s a lot of covers that have gotten famous but nobody knows the original.
One does not simply say "I didn't sure what the title of the song was" when Bohemian Rhapsody comes on.
Hot Stuff. Find the British film “The Full Monty”. It is a comedy about some out of work steel workers who decide to become Male Strippers but with a twist. They go “The Full Monty”. (British for all the way). In part of it they were rehearsing the routine to Hot Stuff. A few scenes later they are queuing up at the local social security office when it comes on the radio and they start tapping their feet and one of them spins round in the queue. The main actor is Robert Carlisle.
They are very young and the 70s is long ago that I'm surprised they knew any of them but I'm glad my teen music has held up .
Was I the only one, when Sheila wasn't too sure about _Bohemian Rhapsody_ , that went: *"Are you kidding me, woman???"*
Mighty Mad She probably knew the song, but somehow couldn’t think of the title.

With everything from prog to the rise of heavy metal, I would call it it the GREATEST decade of music

Great band.We need a band like that to popup each 4-5 decades.Great music in the 70's.
For me, ABBA is also one of the best pop groups in 1970s, i love them.
The thing people don’t realize is Queen is bigger today than they were in the 70’s. At that time they had such a diverse music catalog that only their true diehard fans knew they were Queen songs. It really wasn’t until when they performed at Live Aid in the 80s and the world watched from their living rooms and everyone was saying “damn I didn’t know Queen sung that”. Coupled with Freddy Mercury’s disease/death and albums flew off the shelf to a much broader audience who finally caught onto Mercury’s genius.
A good definition at last.
