      The French aren‘t any better with their extreme arrogance. They refuse to speak English and just asume you need to speak French even if you‘re a foreigner. As a German who visited a bunch of different countries speaking to people in English was perfectly fine except in France.

    • @pyxelly0506
      @pyxelly0506 Před 3 lety +206

      @@s_h136 Well that's funny. I'm french and I can say the exact same thing about Germany. When I spoke english because I struggled for more complex german sentence, they just started to speak german. Doesn't matter how hard I tried to talk english, they wanted to make fun of my bad german because when I tried to speak their langage, they just laughed. I've been in Germany twice and it was always like that. The only country where I met rude people in every street (except Tübingen. My savior city and a beautiful one). And it's truly not the only bad thing I've experience in Germany. People were rude all the time, the worst people I've met honestly. In their country AND as tourists, they didn't care about manners. But still, I was talking about returning because I know the all country can't be like that and it's just my few "nightmare vacations" that I will tell around family reunion and Germany was bad luck because it happened twice. Why not a third time again but in a good way this time ? Because Tübingen wasn't bad at all for example !
      Try to do the same before bashing an entiere group of people. Our opinions are dumb. Mine about german people (i'm sure it's what you think) and yours about french people. French people are arrogant but not that arrogant except in some big cities (Paris is the worst). French people will talk to you in english and if they don't, it's just because they don't know how to guide you or just that they're busy because you know, life (of course some assholes will do it on purpose). We tend to be arrogant sometimes but stop please, we're not that entitled to think french must be learn prior to visit France. Otherwise I could tell that german people expect you to talk german when you're visiting and again it's dumb to think such a think. Our country are open to others for a long time now. I'm not bashing your experience but bashing french people (when honestly this show did quite dirty on us) just because you've met some jerks is completely useless. Because you will encounter people who can bash your country just the same, we all have bad luck when we travel. That's all. Don't speak about your experience like it was a fact.

    1. HE CHEATED ON HIS AWESOME GIRLFRIEND, AND EMILY IS OKAY WITH THAT
    2. The obvious French stereotypes are so over exaggerated
    3. This was written by someone who does not live in France clearly
    4. Why does Emily have to act like the American way is the right way? This is the same way Americans act in another country. She is really arrogant, she doesn’t learn the language, or try to understand the culture, but thinks her ideas are above everyone’s.
    5. And most unrealistic of all, the French people are talking in English to each other.

      This is so on point. I‘m Greek and I moved to my husband‘s country, Germany. I had to take classes to learn the language. Europe has literally so many options and a great supporting system for people who want to learn. What I’ve come to realize is that it’s always the Americans that quit. They visit the class for a few weeks and then they’re gone. Later they come to realize that Europe doesn’t work like they’ve seen on their films and they try to learn.

But as a humanities graduate myself, I can't possibly imagine myself kickstarting the relatively prospecting career I managed to without having taken the effort to actually study Chinese for a good couple years (so pretty far to the extreme as far as humanities go, maybe except for philosophy). In fact, at age 30, I'm even thinking about retaking my high school exit exam (Europe) with maths and IT just to be able to enroll in an engineering university and study automation and robotics because my lack of technical expertise is a tremendous handicap at my current job (and almost all my coworkers graduated from this major).

    Hello, French (and parisian) girl here,
    Emily in Paris was interesting for one thing, it shows how tourists see Paris, and it is refreshing to have this lense some time.
    An the other hand Emily acts the way that make some French people hate americans, and the cultural problems aren't well represent. They consider French to be rude and unwelcoming when Emily is self-centered and not polite in any manner (she didn't say "hello" or "thanks" on the bakery for exemple, and the series makes it look lke the fact she doesn't speak french annoy the baker)...
    Another things that made me go "uhhg": Emily lives in a "chambre de bonne" apparently. This is not a chambre de bonne, this is a very cute apartment in the center of Paris, and very expensive
    A "chambre de bonne" is a 14 meter square room, with a bed, a kitchennette, a shower, and sometime the toilets are in the corridor (for the different "chambre de bonne", on the same floor)
    They pictured a romantizised Paris, with a tourist staying over and not believing in any change possible because the us way is the only possible way. I have so many more argument but i'll stop here. I hope you still like Paris after watching this series and you'll come one day, We don't treat people this way (just don't be an Emily 😅)
