I hate the classic nerdy character protagonist , it's the "I can do literally everything" plus " I'm kinda clumsy and shy" played by an attractive actress/actor. I hate it
This. I also hate the nerd character that knows everything about everything, like Amy in B99 (love the show though). The most intelligent people irl actually don't go around scaring everyone with their trivia knowledge. Also the actual pros are specifically good at one or two things.
It’s so overused
Mimi Do same. very wattpad.
It’s lazy writing. They want to give their main characters flaws so they’re not perfect but giving them the clumsyness is just a cop out because they don’t want to give them flaws that could possibly make them unattractive to the viewers... I hate it
Yup
Why does every teenager in these movies want to go to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, or Duke? And how do they get in if they're average in literally every way? Just once, I'd like to see the protagonist go to a normal university, one they could realistically get into. They can't all be "gentlemen of Harvard" (I hope you read that in an Armie Hammer voice).
Sally Bradshaw all the kids in these movies seem to quite wealthy, like the protagonist of this one. One day maybe the writers of these kinda movies will realize not all kids can afford to go to these universities.

Dylan Rodrigues yup, notice how almost every single one mentions wanting to go mostly because their parents went too lol

Netflix needs to realize there’s more to a “gay character” than being sassy and dyeing your hair.

i just have an issue with the fact that everyone is acting like quinn can't multitask.. like you can be a dancer and still keep up your grades it's just something that you have to make time for.
Exactly. Knew a girl who danced, played sport, modelled and was able to be in the top 10 of her grade. So it's definitely possible. And she wasn't the only one.
No no, you see...you can't be smart AND athletic. That's against the High School Movie rules. You have to choose. That's why the Duke recruiter was so excited to see a dancer with good grades...it had literally NEVER. HAPPENED. BEFORE. ...you know, in the history of High School Movies.
martha cox from HSM, who would pop and lock and jam and break while having intelligence beyond compare, would be so disappointed in quinn
As a dancer, this movie was just not it. There's a part where Jaz takes Quinn to see a group of disabled people dancing really good, and let me just say that this movie would've been way more interesting if they were the protagonists
These movies try to teach valuable lessons like “do what you’re passionate about” while also completely ignoring the fact that some people can be passionate about academics. Also the plot in these movies are just so bad.
Also, colleges are portrayed to focus on extracurriculars way too much. Colleges that have academic heavy degrees put a lot of weight on academics. Great if you do other stuff but you need the grades to back it up. Otherwise, how will you do well in college classes? When I was applying to college, one of the things I was told over and over was to make sure my grades didn't drop towards the end. If you are "accepted" to the college (before a final transcript is sent to the school) and your grades start dropping dramatically, the college may waitlist you or decide not to admit you.
Yes! My passion is academics and in a lot of these movies the characters who are like me are looked down upon or the ones who “have to change” :(
Yes, yes and yes! I can relate to this so hard. Why can't your passion be medicine or science or computer science? Like it is, for many of us. Why does passion always have to be wooh wooh, like acting or dancing? 😂
Cyborg Chick ikr, they act like wanting a good stable job, and wanting to go to a good uni, and studying hard is bad. Why isn’t it acceptable to like academics?
The most unbelievable part is that a dancer thinks “flossing” is an acceptable form of dance

So true. As a dancer myself, I appreciate this statement, lol!

‘everyone plays the cello’ no what? it isn’t that easy...
Why does every main character in teen movies have to have a dead parent?!
My theory is that well realisticaly parents / family would play a more important role in the life of The teenage protagonist. But în movies like this I think parents are annoying for writers because they dont know what to do with them. The parents are not needed for the plot but they got to exist. Sso they kill one to make The job easier
Undercover Unicorn as someone with a dead parent, I completely agree that it’s annoying. Like, it irks me that these things are used as surface level plot points. It’s so common to see them in movies that everyone assumes that they know what kids who do lose a parent go through. I’d rather they either stop killing off one parent just to make it more interesting or they actually explore grief in the story a bit more.
Andreea B you said this perfectly
@@davie9944 fr istg they don't know anything about it. It's would be much better of they keep them alive and actually take their jobs seriously to make a good story.

Ok can we please talk about why in EVERY teen movie one of the main characters parents is ALWAYS dead???? LITERALLY. EVERY. SINGLE .TIME.
But not in Easy A
It gives them a ~*✨💫tragic💫✨*~ backstory so that you feel more for them
THE ONLY MOVIE IS EASY A THERE IS NO OTHER MOVIE
I find that very relatable, thank you.
It's what they sacrifice to become the main character
I’m sorry dancing takes emotion and passion but playing an instrument doesn’t?!
plus the understanding of rhythm, beats etc. like 😂
I play piano and when I heard that line it hurt me 😿
Tbh, if they're forcing themselves to do it when they don't want to do it so it's hard to put passion and emotion in it but you can also say that about dance I guess so ignore me pls.
It definitely does but I guess since all of the applicants played a instrument( apparently the cello) it felt lack luster when all of them played the a instrument and something new was well received.
As a hobbyist guitar player, that line physically hurt me. Personally I think music takes/induces more and stronger emotion.
If my best friend begged me to quit something that makes me happy and prevented me from getting into my dream school but got them into their dream school, i would drop them immediately. that's just messed up.

That’s a thing? If I’m honest, I’m tired of the ‘gay character’ in general. Like if a characters whole personality is their race, sexual orientation, etc, you just know that the writers are lazy and doing it for diversity points. Like the POC best friend if the main character is white. It’s rlly annoying and disappointing. Can’t anyone write a well written, gay character?
@@realnookes6482 Lmao I completely agree. All they need to do is make a strong, well written character and THEN make them gay. They just make them gay and leave it at that, their traits are gay, their strengths are gay, their weakness is gay, literally everything about them is gay. Like sis pls no

Weighted depends on what classes you're taken, like an Honors class is worth more than a standard class and an AP class is worth more than an Honors class (though the "weight" can vary by state or by year, like certain classes carried more "weight" when I was in high school 6-7 years ago than it does now that my brother is in high school.)

It just irritates me, bc that doesn’t seem fair to the other kids who have given up so much for dance.

Also, this is so very "Bring it on", or "Stomp", or "Pitch Perfect".
Of course her name is Quinn. Every nerdy blonde girl who's actually secretly cool has to be named Quinn.
Take Zoey 101 for example.
Don’t mind me. I’m just afraid of everything. And glee
Gleeeee Quinn Fabray
@@sugarlolopeach Quinn's just blonde, not nerdy at all
crazyjenny42 yeah not nerdy, you‘re right but she’s smart though, got into Yale
*How to create a basic teen Netflix movie in 7 easy Steps*
1. _Get a Girl/Guy who’s “quirky” yet has untapped potential_ (Most likely always Caucasian)
2. _Get a One dimensional more interesting friend to tag-a-long and exist solely for the main characters dilemma dispute reason_ ( Most Likely always a Black/“Minority” or a member of the LGBTQ community or if their trying to kill two birds one stones they’ll intermingle them
3. _Have a Screenplay filled with dialogue that is tedious and boring or has _*_Slang_*_ not used anymore_
4. _Have a basic Mean Girls Rachel McAdams wannabe bully the protagonist_
5. _Main Girl/Guy has awakening after unnecessary conflict_
6. _Movie ends with some message that was not clearly fleshed out and characters life continues_
7. _You realize the time you’ve wasted watching garbage, so you drink bleach and go to sleep wondering when will they stop making these type movies, and create something with substance._

Don’t forget a dead parent
This is so accurate its scary
You forgot to mention their love interest 😂😂

She plays cello but doesn’t know how music works??? 5:16
11:30 ha ha ha🤣
"Everybody plays the cello".. lol no. Everybody played the violin. No kid wanted to play that giant thing
ps... its a joke guys
SharRawr actually a lot of kids in my highschool played the cello lol.
I’m a cellist
I played the clarinet and the oboe! Went to a local school lol
SharRawr uhhhh hsm dude played the chello
As I violinist... I kinda agree. Violins are too popular. But damn cellos have beautiful sound, and nobody could disagree! Too bad people don't choose it because of its side...
College counselor: “I mean dance team? That takes emotion, power, grit...” Me, a musician: “And playing the cello doesn’t?????????????”
My I didn't notice but yeah.
As a cellist I was very insulted lolol
Nah, everyone plays the cello these days
Like take one look at the infinite amount of space on the fingerboard and try to find the note you’re looking for, not to mention in tune 😂 as a clarinet player that made me soooo mad
Twoset would beg to differ
I thought this video title was your hot take on society
"Work. It is pretty dumb"
Lmao
According to Netflix making your friend giving upon her dreams to accomplish your dreams is a great sign of friendship.
Hilary Duff WALKED in A Cinderella Story so movies like this can RUN, but they're RUNNING in the wrong direction.
Lol yeah true
Lmaooo FACTS😭😭😭
How is A Cinderella Story even close to this movie beside the fact that it's teens in a high school and there's a love interest?
im dying at this comment
Lol. Best comment EVER!
Funny thing is, Liza did a lot of improv in this movie. She said it in a lot of the interviews, they allowed her to do her own thing. That's why her character is so great 😂

I just love movies with dancing and singing, probably since I can't do either😄
I feel like the movie was kind of rushed, it probably could've been better if they had gone a little slower. I only watched it cause I love Sabrina Carpenter
Watched it for Jordan Fisher lol
Same to both of those lmaooo😂
Roxie Willows sameee
I watched it for liza lmao
I watched it for sabs, she did so good in this movie! I also agree it did feel just a bit rushed but I still liked it nonetheless
I cant help but like this movie cause jordon Fisher looks directly into the camera and winks
Sameeee
Truuuu
Jordan Fisher 🥰
Honestly same
like can we appreciate his talent he sings he acts he dances he's been on broadway and his winks make me melt inside
“Come on, hurry up, I have a bio test to fail” don’t lie, you reminded to watch this again and laughed every time.
Okay but.. This as an actual series where the characters have time for character arcs... Bc the dance team would have been fun.
And over a time span that makes Her, learning how to dance actually realistic.
Also Jake could maybe actually adapt to a dance style that takes his leg into account
Idk. It's, compared to other dance movies I've seen, one of the better ones still. It just needed a LOT more time
“Hello best friend. I would like you to jeopardize, possibly sacrifice your dreams and futures so I can achieve my own. Thank you for being on the right side of history”

“But everyone calls him Juilliard I assume because he’s incredibly overrated”
IM WHEEZING!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂
😂😂😂
Right!!! I died!!
i love the end "does she tell her mom hes like 25... weird sounds"
Ok, Quinn’s mom feels a little too realistic to me luckily not because my mom’s like that but a lot of my “smart” friends moms constantly push their kids to do better even though their kids know how much better they could be and stress out over their grades more than anyone else :(
As someone who has done lighting design/programming/running the lightboard for a few years.....this is why you have bottles with lids for your drinks when in the light or sound booth!
“I’m so quirky and relatable but like no one likes me” like every main character in a teen movie/show
Ah, the "I'm not like other girls" phenomenon
As a female myself I don’t care that I’m like other girls that just means there are females that share my interests
spicy chicken I like you’re name
spicy chicken it’s really good
At this point, I would prefer a story through the eyes of a blonde cheerleader dating the highschool jock. I mean, everyone's life is interesting in their own way and I am pretty sure that some superficial seeming characters might have more to tell than a quirky moron
I’m not a cellist but I do believe that instruments DO require emotions, so when she told the interviewer that she played the cello, the interviewer wasn’t impressed, then she goes on to say she “is in the dance team” and the interviewer goes “wow that requires emotion.” Doesn’t cello? Aren’t you degrading the amount of musicality that goes into it or did the writers not research enough, as per usual with these teen movies. So annoying.
i think the reason she wasn’t impressed was because she stated that every other student she’s seen also plays the cello and does the other things, but when she heard dancing, because it wasn’t something she’s heard before in the interviews, she was impressed.
That really annoyed me too
You shouldn't take it that seriously...
Also she says she doesn't have any rythme right ? How do you even play an instrument then 😥
as a cellist, i believe that what the counselor said about "not having emotion" was bs. but also everyone and their dog plays cello (after the violin), so i can see how quinn was basic. now if she played the viola, then it'd be a different story....
and don't even get me started with the lack of cello references in this movie except for that one shot where she was playing an open d.
Thanks alex for making this a little bit bearable
GOSHHHH i can’t look at jordan fisher the same after watching Until Dawn. It’s like that scene replays non stop in my head
Ok but the way we are just ignoring the fact that Jordan's character is a whole ass ADULT?! And Sabrina's character is most definitely NOT?!
THANK YOU!! I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS COMMENT! Cause like, are we all just going to socially accept a teen dating an adult???? Movie or not, it's weird!! lmao, I cringed everytime they kissed....
To be fair she was supposed to be a senior in highschool so (hopefully) she was 18 but yeah it's weird that the guy is probably at least 20 dating a high schooler
He just graduated the year before and she was a senior so he was only like a year older than her I believe
Y'all guys find it creepy for a 18 yo and a 20 yo to date? It's just two years, like nothing at all ^^' and honestly is not like you graduate high school and BAM you're suddenly a grown ass adult, c' mon
@@dionisialieo9493 That's not what I find creepy. it said he graduated a couple years ago, which means he graduated at least 2 years ago. That makes him 20 or older. However I'm a senior in high school right now. And the majority of my grade is 17. This story started at the beginning of her senior year. So the fact that a 17-year-old started dating a 20-21+ year old is a little creepy. My friend was dating a 21-year-old and she was 17. He ended up getting fined and put on the sex offenders list. Like it is a serious thing
The most annoying thing in this movie is how her entire team practices in JEANS!!! I used to dance and you would be told to change or be sent home because they limit your mobility.
I know!! I do cheer and you can’t do anything athletic in jeans 😂
I felt that right in my soul and I haven't danced in years
THANK YOU!!!
I practiced in jeans once and dislocated my knee. Whether related or not, i became the example on why you dont practice in jeans
And that's the tea
Quinn: I'm Quinn...Ackermann
*confused Levi and Mikasa noises*
My weeb butt: You disgrace the Ackermann name

Levi is mine... But yeah, Sabrina carpenter's (Who is an absolute queen and is super sweet and one of the most talented singers out there) character wasn't the best, the whole movie, in general, was kinda "meh" in my opinion.
@@mostannoyingscaramain yeah I love Sabrina and I feel like the movie didn't do her justice

Is no one going to talk about how Jake Taylor had a knee accident but danced perfectly in the Work It competition?
Also, why was he even dancing? He had already graduated and was their choreographer. Since when do choreographers need to dance with the crew?
@@alisongreenslade1006 because Quinn was late
I think in the movie he said he stopped dancing because after his injury he wasn't the best dancer anymore. So it was most likely his mind preventing him from dancing and not his knee injury?
Alison Pauls lol I was wondering the same thing. Dance movies never make sense you just watch it for the dancing but the dancing wasn’t that great
My sister was very bothered by that throughout the entire movie.
Can we talk about how accurate the acting of the mom was
