Patient assessment is one of the main lessons of EMT school. Patient assessment is broken up into five main sections: Scene size up, primary assessment, history taking, secondary assessment, and reassessment.
This patient assessment lecture breaks down exactly what you need to know for EMT class. The patient assessment review will help with your NREMT exams, NREMT practicals and classroom quizzes.
I look forward to you fully understanding patient assessment after watching this video.

I’ll be honest, I’m only 15 but want to get my head in the game super early so that I know what I may be getting myself into in the future. Thanks for what you do man!
Keep pushing 3 years from now you'll pass the NREMT with flair
Sounds like a great idea but just remember to still enjoy your youth high school years while you can👍
You should be about 16 by now, glad to see a young person being enterprising about BLS... hopefully you're on the paramedic path. Lots of people need help out there
I’m 16 just started a 2 year emt course
Join your local VFD, a lot of fun and great experience
Don't forget to consider holding C spine during your primary assessment, critical factor on the test
Thank you for making videos for EMT students like me! They really help me out doing my supplemental learning and thoroughly understanding content material.
Evan, this is by far the best video you have provided for us. I’ve been having trouble with assessment NREMT questions and which term falls into which section of the assessment and this is just a grand slam on what I need to know 💯 This absolutely ties up loose ends and technical to the bone. Thank you so much for all that you do for us Evan. I can’t wait to finally kill the NREMT 🤙🏾
Thank you Drew!
I skipped this part in my online emt and just had skills days. I had 2 days (medical and skills days) to learn patient assessment before my nremt testing day. I BARELY passed. This is obviously so important so don't put it off!!!!
Thank you man have a EMT practical tomorrow and this video saved me
As someone with a learning disability, this is by far one of the easiest videos to follow along to! Will defenitely reccomend you to anyone trying to learn this stuff!
Thanks for watching!
I have a learning disability I struggle in my EMR class, this helps me prove I can complete it.
Gotta love a passionate teacher, this is sharp!
Thank you, Markus!
Super helpful to me as an upcoming EMT
Glad it was helpful!
After I got my heart saver certification My current career was run over the road truck driver but now forced off the road on medical always having a medical knowledge now I just want to learn to be better as a lay person and maybe one day I may be able to get into an EMT program. Thanks Evan. Joining your program soon.
Super Video Evan !!! Patient Assessment is the absolute fundamental detective work ! I'm so glad that you elaborated on Pertinent Negatives. As a Radio Patch to You Sir :
" Thanks so much - I'm Learning these Critical Skills COLD" !!!
Omg my practical is tomorrow!! Just 11 hours from now 😅 this is my last minute cram sesh 😂 I’d like to see someone do a video framing the questions in a good way that we ask the test giver. Like “can I assume the airway is patent” or “what’s the MOI or NOI?” Or “I’m going to check radial pulses and skin color and condition” like how it’s verbalized during the test. That seems to be where a lot of confusion stems from in my class.
I've been having so much trouble with this, but this helped tremendously. My course barely explains it, but it is legit important?!
Thx for these videos I decided to switch my career right before highschool graduation and have no early medical training. It's really helping me get a early start
Just started my first responder class yesterday and i need to memorize the patient assessment by tomorrow . This video helped me so much thank you
So clear. You’re videos provide so much help! And I love the extra “real life” tips.
Glad you like them!
Extremely helpful. You make it seem so simple than they do in class, tysm!!!
Happy to help!
Back to basics. Fantastic, great video. Many thanks UK

Thanks for the kind words here!
One thing that really caught me out was getting SAMPLE after everything
Make sure you have ALS in route for basically everything in your test, PMS before and after splinting, and always treat shock management
Really enjoyed video. Kept simple Thanks
really appreciate these videos man I don't see myself not watching these even long after I get Certified xD
Evan, Love your videos & this is helping a lot!
Can you please do a video on SLUDGEM/DUMBELLS?
EMT student, I just ran a call on a guy who took in a bunch of chemicals. Things happened so fast I wish I understood more! Can you do a video on it? I appreciate you man, I purchased your program! And take my NREMT in about a month! Trying to know it all “COLD” 💪
Welcome Aboard and thanks for the topic idea!
Thanks this is helpful I'll be starting EMT class in a few weeks
Great work getting started now!
My emt course was quick and touched on all of these. I passed and got my emt using some of your videos!
I got a job as an EMT and am now orienting with a company.
Any advice for great questions for the primary survey to knock big illnesses out of the park? Im being placed on a bls ambulance but we usually arrive well before the micu and have always transferred care thus far.
Also, do you have any advice on bedside reports/charge nurse reports i can give?
I have my final next week!!!
You got this!
Thank u
Welcome!
Love you ❤
You are a god sir!
How would you differ from emergency vs non emergency pt assessment. Say for an IFT call?
Would you forget about sample during a trauma call if the patient is unresponsive?
Would it be better to differentiate the patient assessment by MOI vs NOI?
Taking th nremt in 2 days after a year and a half out of school😬 used your program though I’ll update if I pass
Update on you passing! 😬😁😁
@@janicealbus7982 I passed, on m’y second attempt yesterday! First one ended at 70questions my next attempt I took the full 120 and passed 😅
Did you pass?! :)
Thanks
Welcome!

4:21 How did we remove the patient's hat and shirt before we approached them and prior to receiving their consent? (assuming the PT is an adult, conscious, no altered mental status and has capacity)
excelent
Can u become a medic with math lit and witout physical
If they seem like they have a good sense of humor, then "...10 is how you would feel if your arm just fell off."
I did not create this: " SNNAC (Scene SU, NoI (or MoI), ALS?, C-spine) ...after you have you 'snnac', then you have your glucose (glucose = GLC: General impression, LoC, Chief complaint). (source : Jessica Coelho's YT channel)
So it's "SNNAC...GLC...ABC...GO"
Now I need your help....we need a good way to memorize pulse & BP ranges per age group.
This is awesome.
Welcome!
Why not consider c-spine during size up? Or did I miss that?
Greg, you are on the money! Certainly makes sense on a trauma assessment/call.
Coach can you help me I want to become a firefighter and was told to get an EMT certification. How long is EMT school just for the certification so I can become a firefighter that's my main goal.
Depends on the school you attend. I used a community college in USA that was 4 months long. Due to Covid restrictions in 2021, my college met once a week for hands on labs and exams. My college also offers an accelerated summer course that's 2 months long. I don't recommend an accelerated course personally since there was a lot of material to cover in my 4 month course. Some organizations may offer hands on instruction at Fire Departments. You'll need to see which option is best for you. Good luck.
@@SS-iw2nq Thank you much appreciated
EMT School is typically 3 months/12-weeks some programs you can find are 4-8 weeks, I recommend reviewing this playlist ton of info on what you are trying to accomplish with EMT school: czcams.com/video/levoafSrhqw/video.html
My class was 8 weeks long accelerated I know but all 12 or 11 of us passed the class
@@Mike-fo9qw what state are you in I'm in georgia I just dont wanna do college or sum for 3 years you know
Judging by the tile screen, your patient doesn't need an assessment, he looks to be dead.
Is the course still 137?
