    I have been playing RPGs for a long time and I don't mean just Dungeons and Dragons. My collection is massive and to date though I have played a lot of RPGs I don't think I've played more than 10% of my entire collection. Shadowrun is one of those games that I keep returning to because of the unique setting, the in-depth lore, and the sheer chaos the game can cause. So in the newest edition which is 6th edition I think it hits closer to the 5e mark by making the game a bit more accessible. Come have a look and let me tell you why you should play Shadowrun!

    4 of my friends and myself played SO much Shadowrun back in the 1990s! An absolutely amazing TTRPG! Love the whole world and all the different race/classes/characters!

    I was always fascinated with Shadowrun since the newer PC games came out (Returns, Dragonfall, and Hong Kong). I tried my hand at 5th edition, but it was very hard to get into as a new player/gm, especially with all the additional books were already out. So now I got into 6th edition, which is just that little bit more accessible then 5th. Ot made all the difference. I had a blast building characters and running them through their first scenario. I would recommend 6E to anyone interested in Shadowrun. It is no longer as rough as it was when it initially launched. And it is a lot easier to learn, run, and play then 5E. I'm glad I tried both editions and know what I prefer now.

    Great video. I’ve been into Shadowrun since I’ve played the video games years ago. I’ve bought a rule book a few years back but got overwhelmed by its complexity.
    These days, I’m more experienced with ttrpg like Cyberpunk Red, DnD 5e, and VtM V5. I have been playing SR6th in text based for a long while and about to start my 3rd run. I think I’ve started to finally understand the gameplay mechanics and the past weekend I had bought the starter set. Can’t wait to run it.
    P.s. you called the Decker a Rigger. lol.

    It's interesting when you mention that so many stick with 3rd edition. In what I've seen in discussions and other videos on CZcams, I was under the impression that most stuck with 4th edition as the best version of the system overall. Could you speak more to that?

    • @normalguygames
      @normalguygames  Před měsícem

      In my musings and internet travels I've seen way more people tout 3rd edition as the best. A lot of people didn't like the change to the core dice rolls and target numbers and a lot of people felt like it made the system a lot less versatile. However, that being said it was balanced better in my opinion. 4th becomes problematic the more powerful the characters get though, which makes the game kind of putter out the longer you play. The Matrix got changed as well, I don't remember a lot about it but I know it went to an augmented VR kind of deal and the time dilation no longer exists, it works on the same time frame as real time. That's honestly all I can remember off hand.

    So love this setting and have several of the novels. I haven't played it since 3rd edition, though because I really hate dice pools

      You could give Savage Worlds a try then. You can do Cyberpunk in Savage Worlds too.

    Yeah when Sixth came out it was rough, but the current state is solid. Funny enough i had been a fan of the Shadowrun world since 1st or 2nd edition. But i could never figure it out, maybe because of youth or complications, but i finally played it! So i am a fan of 6th!

      6th had some turbulence but honestly I think they did the right thing by making the system a little simpler.

      No, no talk of 7th edition yet. However, I don't see why they wouldn't at some point soon. 6th was not received well by the old hats, we'll see down the line.

    I fail to see how 6th makes things simplier. Its the same roll x+x for 5s and 6s. Especially 5th edition was no different. BUT 6th just took this and added an awefull complex edge system that makes u shoot better because your car was faster a while ago...
    What should have been improved was stuff like driving rules (does anyobe ever use these?). Matrix-> streamlined, but a mix of 5th everything is online and 4th there are ways yo run stuff in your private network. Limit Bonus dice hard. SR always starts too add yoo much stuff in the adittional books (not bad per se , but often out of main system-> submarine rules 😂😂)

    • @normalguygames
      @normalguygames  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I'm not saying it's perfect. The book is laid out poorly there are many rules that could use a tweak or two but if you look at the sheer bloat of 5th vs 6th on size alone there's a difference. I had an easier time with 6th than 5th but that won't be everyone's case. It's a person-by-person basis really.

    A few timestamps wouldn't go amiss. A lot of your video is explaining things that have always been there.
    Also you're confusing awakening and goblinization. The Awakening is the return of magic in general. Goblinization is just the appearance of orks and trolls (not elves and dwarves).

    • @normalguygames
      @normalguygames  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Fair points all but yes I was going over some of the things that might draw people in, not necessarily all new stuff. It's been a long while since I've played/read. I'm running a 6e now but the organization of the book makes it prohibitive to read. lol
