    Just wanted to add: Sun Blade.
    It's a +2 longsword with finesse, it could be easily concealed when not activated and it deals an extra 1d8 damage on undeads. It also emits sunlight.
    Could be quite useful for a flashy rogue, like a swashbuckler.

    So one of my GM's typically lets us buy magic items up to rare quality as long as they have them in stock so me playing a human rogue with the observant feat and expertise in perception decides to break the game by doing the unexpected and picking up every single weapon or item of value then selling it to get a cloak of eyes at 1st level giving my character a passive perception of 27 the ability along with the ability to see invisible stuff and have a 120ft of dark vision at 4th level I then picked up the alert feat so you couldn't surprise me either the campaign ended at around 12th level at which point I had over 30 passive perception and had no once failed a perception check we actually kept track of it as I bet the GM $20 that I wouldn't fail a single perception check the entire campaign best $20 I have ever made

    Scimitar of Speed. Finesse so you get sneak attack.
    As a bonus action you make a melee attack. (And get sneak attack)
    Then hold your main action attack until the next turn. So you get another sneak attack. You could also use that main action for snytgunb. Even casting spells. Or magic items.

      @martaneon5310 Před 4 lety

      Scimitar of Speed is great for rogues. Gives you a second chance to hit if you miss with the first attack. But the one problem is rogues don't normally start off proficient with scimitars so you need to become proficient with them. But that isn't too tough though.

    My personal experience on rogues is that they really don't need more damage, but rather than capabilities to pump out that damage, so I agree that rogues can be rather free to use any interesting or ability enhancing magic item they want to use. I like the list but as with anything, medium armor proficiency for Mizzium/Adamantium armor is the way to go. While rogues don't get access to scimitars, if you happen to get that proficiency from somewhere, Scimitar of Speed is godlike weapon. Bonus action sneak attack damage and action ready attack to gain the sneak attack damage again on the next creatures turn is really good or just dodge after the bonus action attack. It's also a +2 weapon.

    I'm surprised Cloak of Elvenkind did not make the list. While the bracers are nice, since it's from a specific module, i could see some DM's not wanting to include it in other modules or custom settings. Where the Cloak is a base DMG item and is just as good, imo, as the boots.

  • @Jtrowa
    @Jtrowa Před 4 lety +5

    Bracers of archery and sword of wounding both seem like a weird pick, when they are both a lot better on classes that get extra attack.
    The justification for bracers seemed really weird to me too. "you're probably using a shortbow because you don't have proficiency with a longbow" but rogues get proficiency with light crossbows, which does the same damage as a longbow. sure, you can't fire more than once per action, but rogues don't have extra attack anyways so that's a non-issue.
    And the logic that you can take a 1 level multi class into fighter to take the archery fighting style makes bracers of archery good is also silly. "Hitting more often is good, so this multi-class that helps you hit more often means that these bracers that don't help with that are good"

    Can anyone tell me what the hell "passive investigation" is supposed to be?

    • @cesarfortson8245
      @cesarfortson8245 Před 4 lety +1

      To let you know, every stat in technicality has a "passive" version of it. What a "passive" skill is, is the assumption that you are not actively looking to do the skill, but instead are functioning at your overall average. To specify what I mean by average in this circumstance, I mean instead of rolling a d20, you just take the base number of 10 and then add your modifier. If you would normally have an advantage, you add a 5 to the passive.
      So let's say you have the Eyes of Minute Seeing and expertise in investigation at level 5 and you have a +1 INT modifier. This means that the math would be:
      10 (base) + 6 (expertise) + 1 (INT modifier) +5 (advantage bonus for passives)
      This would mean your passive investigation is 22.
      Using passive investigation would likely be for automatically detecting traps without you actively deciding to find them. I hope this explanation proved sufficient.

    • @jarekmarcinek1261
      @jarekmarcinek1261 Před 4 lety

      @@cesarfortson8245 Not every stat has a passive version. Base characters have only passive Perception, Investigation, and Insight, which you use either when you are not actively using one of those attributes, OR when you are actively looking for something, if your passive attribute is higher than the DC, you don't need to roll at all, in essence, you only roll perception, investigation, or insight when you need to get an 11 or higher to succeed. Only rogues that have reliable talent technically have a "passive" version of every skill, as you are considered to automatically roll a 10 if you roll lower

    • @jarbuthn
      @jarbuthn Před 3 lety +1

      mechanical explanations aside, covered well here, passive investigation is sort of like Sherlock Holmes walking down the street and noticing details along the way, essentially unfocused skill which is only really useful for those with exceptional skill. any unobvious detail is normally missed by anyone not actively looking but for those especially talented individuals they'll pick it out while doing oher things.

    I feel like sword of wounding works better on those who get a lot of attacks, and the fact the rogue is the only martial class who does not get the extra attack feature, makes it less that great when compared to a fighter, or even a paladin(if smites can't be healed). A fighter with action surge can easily stack the wound passive 4-6 times in the middle levels.

    I think with the Bracers of Flying Dagger, you don't get to bonus action attack since you aren't using the attack action. I would allow it but RAW you couldn't engage in Two-Weapon Fighting. However, still good since you could us cunning action.

      TheRodentMastermind From what I've been able to ascertain, people seem to have a few names and stats mixed up when it comes to swords.
      (Though the DMG and PH don't entirely help.)
      I would understand if rouges got proficiency in arming swords, but longswords, war swords, and greatswords should not be in their vanilla proficiencies.
      (Arming swords are one handed swords, with average blade lengths of 27 1/2 - 30 1/2 inches.
      Though there was variation, some were as short as 22 inches in blade length, others like one handed riding swords were up to 36 7/8 inches.)
      On the subject of scimitars (more accurately represented by Shamshirs), they are quite long, usually over 34 inches in blade length.
      (A falchion or messer would probably fit their needs better, they also had huge variation in overall design.
      Blades, handle lengths, the whole shebang.)
      Edit: Oops, forgot to mention to add about 4 inches to the overall length.
      This is due to the pommel, the grip, and the quillons adding to the weapons total length.

    That sword of wounding is NEVER making it into my game with wound stacking. Soooooooo much added damage, especially with extra attacks.

    • @Battleguild
      @Battleguild Před 4 lety +1

      The sword's wounding effect only triggers once per turn, it won't matter how many attacks land during that time with the weapon. (But opportunity attacks are fair game to potentially get a 2nd wound before your next turn.)
      After taking the initial wound damage at the start of its turn, it makes a DC15 Con save, with a success clearing all wound counters. (An ally doing a DC15 medicine check also removes the counters.)
      While the weapon can be a beast with some lucky rolls, it works best versus creatures that can auto-heal themselves.
