We don't actually know how old the tyres are in most of these clips. With Max exiting the pits on fresh mediums, Bottas would compromise his race, if he put up too much of a defense against Verstappen on a different strategy.
At that stage Bottas didn’t have very old tires since graining was a big issue for Mercedes that weekend. They stopped earlier than Max to not risk a tire failure, iirc. I could be wrong though
What's sad about that China 2018 move is that Bottas was dominating that race on pure pace before a safety car closed the gaps and gave Ricciardo fresher tires. That's what makes this video all the more annoying to watch: on his day, Bottas could beat 7x and 4x champions on pure pace, but he just doesn't have any resemblance of a killer instinct.
2021 France is a good example for Bottas’ poor defence, but I think Verstappen’s overtake on bottas is a better showcase than Perez’s overtake. At Silverstone 2020, Bottas defending the position was kinda useless. If you look at the rear facing camera the tyre on the right appears to be massively graining, whilst Max was on fresh tyres. Still, it is a testament to the W11's speed that he was still able to hang on round the outside.

if we want to see poor defending, Bottas in 2021 in Baku was woeful. Youd think the car had a problem and was limping back to the pits seeing how he was getting passed by everyone after the safety car restart.
What was Bottas supposed to do at Silverstone? He's on worse tires and its two turns where the inside becomes the outside and vice versa. Unless he's flawless through the section, he's getting run off the track by Max and losing tons of time.
hes the polar opposite of perez: insanely fast, but way too passive in defending and attacking. he just doesnt know how to do it right. perez on the other hand is slow during qualifying and over one lap, but his race management, defending, attacking, divebombs are all much better than valtteri's.

Bottas: Alright sir!
In the first scene bottas didn't close the door early enough. He reacted to Ricciardo, so I guess he was not in the position to close the door completly.
But yes, his racecraft is really, really poor.
i feel even if bottas did close the door fully a max x daniel baku 2018 would’ve happened
I forgot how fucking fast the 2020 cars were
bottas Is literally bullied 😔
Daniel had much better tires than Bottas
At Silverstone 2020, Bottas defending the position was kinda useless. If you look at the rear facing camera the tyre on the right appears to be massively graining, whilst Max was on fresh tyres. Still, it is a testament to the W11's speed that he was still able to hang on round the outside.
One of his worst signature defensive moves is defending “fresh air”. And there’s no better example of Bottas doing this than in Abu Dhabi 2018 on lap 38 against Max.
Maybe Bottas needs to watch a Finnish "How to Close a Door" guide??
(pin this comment please, those who know.. know).

What movie is your profile pic from?
his pfp is Javier Bardem as Anton Chigurh in "No Country For Old Men," a stunning Coen Bros. flick & adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's likewise titled novel.
Neat tidbit: the Coen Bros. stated that Anton is more a personification of Death itself than an actual man- his sheer relentlessness, rigid & incomprehensible code of 'ethics,' and the way he resembles a force of nature by his spectacular wake rife with physical destruction & violent death are the means by which the filmmakers carry out this personification.
@@valencesirvinskas7000 Wow! Thanks for such an in depth description. This movie seems like it has had quite the impact and some die hard fans
@@loganm2766 hey, no problem! glad you found my exposition valuable.
I can't help but tack on some recommendations if you enjoy this sort of film: The Counselor [also starring Bardem (2013)], Sicario (2015), and Hell or High Water (2016).
In the last one he compromised his chicane speed. He got out of the chicane better than Perez but had lost tenths of a second in a few meters
I genuinely listen to the 2020 Honda engine in my free time lmao.
max was always going to get the overtake done at 2020 silverstone.. fresh mediums vs the state of bottas' tyres.. left rear is actually shot
if we want to see poor defending, Bottas in 2021 in Baku was woeful. Youd think the car had a problem and was limping back to the pits seeing how he was getting passed by everyone after the safety car restart.
3:19 The rear suspension lowers strangely
theres also the one where Vettel pulls a double dummy on him in Barcelona, best overtake in f1 history if you ask me.
Hes got good pace but just poor racecraft
Remember how his defending used to be 99 according to F1 Games 😂
That exit on 3:13, W11 is a monster
Yeah his racecraft is non-existent, I remember him being scared to divebomb Vettel on finished tyres in Bahrain
Need a fernando or even vettel racecraft vid
What was Bottas supposed to do at Silverstone? He's on worse tires and its two turns where the inside becomes the outside and vice versa. Unless he's flawless through the section, he's getting run off the track by Max and losing tons of time.
Hamilton also left the door open in Abu Dhabi 2021 (with a championship on the line)
max's brazil 2018 ohno
A few of these are unfair, He was on much older compounds when these happened and just surviving out there
*ALL THE TIME YOU HAVE TO LEAVE A SPACE!*
*“OK? UNDERSTOOD?”*
Maybe that's why we don't see him crash as much as some others. Only thing that comes to my mind is Hungary GP 2021.
These DTS fans that clown Ric now never saw his prime years💯
hes the polar opposite of perez: insanely fast, but way too passive in defending and attacking. he just doesnt know how to do it right. perez on the other hand is slow during qualifying and over one lap, but his race management, defending, attacking, divebombs are all much better than valtteri's.
Perez has been going beast mode this season. his balls-to-the-wall cornering has broken speed records in some turns, and he was just a hair shy of Max in Suzuka quali. I'll admit that traditionally Checo fits your description, but if he carries on like this, there won't be much more talk of him being replaceable.
Hammy really had a strong teammate….. sure.
I always thought Bottas has the speed but not aggressive at all. He's too cautious during defending and overtaking.
Bottas Tier 2 looking ahhh driver
And Hamilton had struggles sometimes against him 😂
cant blame bottas for the first one, ricciardo just came out of nowhere
Maybe context would have helped newer fans. Daniel on fresh set of tyres while Bottas on aging old tyres. ( Daniel had the time to make an extra free stop after safety cark
rare bad yelistener video, not a single word about tyres
are you suggesting only bottas has trouble closing the door? lmao almost every max vs. lewis overtake happened because one of them didn't close the door fully
prime example: silverstone 2021
well said
Danny Ric in his prime... what a beast💪. Leaving Red Bull was a huge mistake, maybe he thought that Renault could have become the next Mercedes.
More like he new what was comming: getting beaten by Max and losing his nr.1 position (which he regained by Renault)
Yeah, I miss Daniel on Red Bull car. 🇦🇺🇦🇹
@Eric-rf1is he wasn't afraid of max. what he had a problem with was the unreliable car that gave him 8 dnfs in a single season and every race of his in 2018 had car issues. add to that red bull not holding max accountable for Baku 2018 crash, and clearly showing preference
his renault era was great especially 2020. 2019 didnt go like he wanted and mclaren had already poached him by the start of 2020. simply didn't have faith in his stint there but ended up making 5th in championship in a renault
@@huh4206 The unreliable car is total BS. The only thing that was unreliable was the Renault engine and RIC went to Renault. 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Max was not to blame for the Baku crash. RIC lost downforce behind Max, same as VET behing Max at Silvestone. One difference: VET appologised.
only time Bottas wins is on pure pace advantage, thats why hes solid in quali
this video is basically Bottas getting roasted by multiple RB drivers in multiple years
if only danny ric could still do that
Mercedes took too long to give the seat to Bottas, if George was given the seat from 2020, Mercedes would not lose the 2021 title
All he has to do is cover his line off and he never has the balls to do it.
