Mendes is not a journey man, He’s one of the best fw’s ever, and only lost to the best. His fight with Conor is one if my favourites, him stepping in on 2 weeks notice without a full camp, Conor accepting the complete change of styles and showing up despite a serioys ACL injury which damaged his footwork and takedown defense. And despite all that they stepped up and fought their hearts out, both showcasing their game and their heart, earning everyone’s respect!

I feel like so many people don’t appreciate the fact that Conor’s striking is _absolutely_ *Beautiful.*
With his persona, you’d think that he’d be a brawler that just swung for the fences on every shot. But in reality, the way he strikes is the exact opposite. Everything he does is just _so_ smooth and precise. It’s seriously like watching a great dancer.
I wish people had more appreciation for the beauty involved in MMA rather than just the brutality of the sport. Watching Conor, Yan, Gane, Adesanya, Dillashaw, Whittaker, Volkanovski, Poirier, Sandhagen, Namajunas … That’s just as aesthetically-pleasing as Artwork.
Edit - I Forgot to mention a few others who have beautiful Striking: Holloway, Aldo, Wonderboy, Valentina, Moreno, Aspinall, Kattar, Font, Leon … I can’t _not_ give them a shout out when I’m talking about beautiful striking.

@@dragostoma9033 I seriously have the exact same thoughts about everything you said lol.
It’s tough, because it’s such a huge fight in terms of the impact it will have on each fighter’s legacy. Conor needs the win to prove the naysayers wrong about how he hasn’t fought enough elite fighters (although I’m not sure that’s necessarily true).
And I think Poirier needs the win so that he will finally get the recognition he deserves for how great of a career he has already had.
He beat Max twice, Gaethje, Alvarez, Pettis, and Hooker. That’s the kind of resume you would expect from someone that was considered one of the ten best fighters of all time, yet nobody considers him to be in that discussion. And I think that’s solely because he fought in the same division as Khabib and Conor.
I love Conor, but I think Poirier deserves the win. He’s such a great guy and it would be a shame if he didn’t get the credit he deserved.

Conor was right in saying that this is a forgetful sport, its sad because when you look at everything he has done for our sport. Everything he has accomplished inside and outside of the cage, people still forget. They try to downplay his success and his skills. Sure he may have lost that fire, that passion that drove him, but he is still one of the best to ever do it, still lethal. I get most hardcore fans of MMA don't "forget", but I just wish the majority of the community would be like that. Just sorting by newest comments is a pretty good gauge of the attitude towards him. I wonder how the fight would've gone had it been a full camp Mendes in there. Conor was laughing out of desperation at the end of the first round, after the ground and pound. What's unbelievable is if Conor touches you with that left your going down. That can only happen if every aspect of the punch is perfect. He mastered the perfect mechanics from start to finish with that left hand touching your chin. Not only could he do that but the slip counter with combination punches would finish you. That is so explosive though and requires so much energy if he doesn't finish you,it could leave him so depleted a takedown ground attack could be his undoing. I don't think he need to be bulkier or stronger, his striking was perfect. What he should have done is stay lean and perfected his ground technique/submissions. That way noone would want to take him down. Just my opinion, who am I,nobody!

I wish he took some of that style he used at first in the smaller weight class and transferred it over to the heavier division's. His karate mixed type style to me is the best that there is. That style can counter, wresters, any form of opponent, it gives more options then the later style of mostly pull counter punches. Regardless McGregor is a beast. I'm really liking Sean O'Malley and Izzy and Wonderboy. Anyone who's good at unorthodox type karate style and I'm all for it. I feel like that is the style. It's at least my personal favorite type of fighting. The wrestling and grappling style and the power punchers have already had their times in the UFC. I'd like to see unorthodox high fight I.Q. styles win now.
