      @@AshishKumar-ok4uy Striking is an area where you can't dominate every single matchup. Every all time great striker has either been outstruck or knocked out multiple times even in their own weight class. This was 20 lbs above and that matters in striking as well

    I remember this was after the Vettori fight and Tavares was in top 10 coming off 4 fight win streak. Everyone was saying this was too early for Izzy lol and he absolutely dominated him.

      It's really hard for izzy to improve in striking, since he was on the very top lvl in this discipline even before he entered ufc. Vettori is definitely who improved more, i still think he loses to izzy tho.

      @@EgoCZ He didn't necessarily improve his striking but he has adopted it way better for mma since then. This fight was in 2018 and just in 2017 Izzy fought for Glory world title. So it had only been a year since he fully transitioned to mma

    im glad this fight hasn’t been completely overlooked by the mma community especially considering that it was izzy’s first 5 rounder against a #8 ranked fighter ( higher than vettori at the time ) and it was right after his 3 round bout with vettori ( vettori was ranked fighting an izzy that just entered the ufc )
    tavares did everything that vettori did in his 3 round fight with izzy with more forwardness in the striking grappling exchanges and he was still dog walked by a newly ufc entered kickboxer smh

      Tavares did not fight like vettori lol. You may be remembering the fight wrong. Go look at the stats, vettori landed 46 significant strikes in 3 rounds compared to Tavares landing only 40 in 5 rounds. Tavares got completely bullied and at times was a straight up punching bag. Vettori on the other hand was constantly pressuring izzy. Tavares is a CAN and it's embarrassing he even was ranked tbh. He has some kind of decent wins but they were all years ago.

    Israel often doesn't look as physically impressive as his opponents. He often looks skinny. Maybe that's why some of these guys (Costa) thought the were going to maul him.

      He's lean, and lean = explosive power.
      Arms and legs are meant to be whips rather than mauls, for maximum power.
      In amateur competitions where dudes defense is always lacking compared to pro, I've seen lanky dudes KO guys 40-60lbs heavier than them, with one perfect strike.
      Bulk up too much and you end up mauling, never getting that perfect speed/power ratio.

      Jan showed that there are weightclasses for a reason more than anything. Holloway just moved up 10 lbs vs Dustin and lost but that didn't necessarily show he had "A LOT more to improve".. The size difference matters a lot as well.

      Extremely biased. Israel's "kickboxing credentials" seriously should have been an indication of how well he can fight. He proved himself with those credentials even if it wasn't in the octagon that he got all of those wins they're still fucking wins. It isn't surprising that he's schooling UFC fighters.

    We can see through the history that Izzy almost always says the truth when it comes to fighting. The ONLY time he ever even considered the possibility of him losing was against Jan and that's his only loss, throughout the lead up to the fight he constantly said it was going to be very hard and he could lose, he knows himself and he's honest. When he says he's gonna show the levels between him and Vettori, we should believe him.
    Only other time he wasn't right about his prediction of a fight was against Romero because he didn't think Yoel would just stand there the whole fight.

    Israel is a virtuoso.. Israel to MMA fighting is like Mozart to classical music. Everything he does in the octagon is next level. His opponents are good, but no one seems to be able to bring what he brings every time he fights. Of course he trains hard, but what he adds to that is unteachable. The diverse kicks and strikes are right on time and can not be anticipated or defended… they come from every angle often when you least expect it. One of the best MMA fighters of all times!

    It's a technical war when you step in there with Izzy, he's AT LEAST sound everywhere with the creativity and striking ability to keep you guessing. The type of champion that will give anyone in the division problems. (obviously) No shade towards Vettori, but does he have the same ability to give completely different looks than he did in the first fight like opponent does? Idk. Definitely looking forward to Izzy's first rematch in the UFC though, it will speak volumes to his ability to evolve and grow as a champion if he finishes this fight in spectacular fashion.
