Like it's not -good-, but there's definitely something about it I can't place. Like something about it feels like someone understands the song in their mind but doesn't quite have the music theory knowledge to pull it into the air perfectly. It's like Evergrace's soundtrack in that sense.

i really don't care, this track is bloody fantastic. so many fun ideas. the ritardando at the end of each of the phrases during the A section is so good. the pacing is incredible. the sounds are definitely harsh, but unlike sonic spinball, they're clearly leaning into the FM wonkiness here instead of trying to be a wall of fake guitar. seriously quirky fun - it's like an instrumental prog DEVO.

This certainly is Setsumaru's first work, and the poor man (who also composed for the Sonic World segment of the Sonic Jam OST, btw) got his name permanently plastered into this particular piece. THIS is his legacy.
This guy would later make Angel Island act 1's theme and The Sonic Jam Sonic World theme, and more songs too....

I'd really like to hear this reworked as some random recurring badnik's theme. A real bumbler of a character, like Scratch, Grounder, Orbot, Cubot, etc. Every time you encounter him, his own attacks would somehow backfire and destroy him.
The instrumentation is too strong, but I actually like the melody of it. With some re-instrumentation it could be great.
I've seen a few remixes online that have done exactly that and it's pretty good! One straight up sounds like a Dr. Mario or Tetris track. I wanna say the people who did Mania have a cover too
