Let's face it, even in the weaker Sonic games, the one thing that can save it is the soundtrack (Except for Sonic Boom).

Shattered Crystal and Fire & Ice had great soundtracks, who was composed by the great Richard Jacques, the same guy who made the Sonic R soundtracks.
Shadow wasn't my taste, but Black Knight had probably some of the best themes one could wish for:

-Fight the Knight
-Through the Fire
-Faraway Avalon
-With Me (if I ever become a final boss I will use the Massive Power Mix as my theme)

Other arguments that point towards the "it plays before SfH" would be:
Eggman wearing pants.
Eggman still being in command of his batniks.
Tails not being a jerk.
Shadow being alive.
Sonic being supposed to defeat Eggman, which we know is way in the past because of the Sonic for Hire timetravel season.
And last but not least, as already mentioned, knuckles isnt a pixel.
Also, i gotta correct you Mr. Doge Mayo. Sonic went broke because he "invested" all his money in dreamcast stock that tails sold him. (Being pointed out in Sonic for Hire season 1, episode 1)

I remember feeling like a kid when I saw this particular video, hearing the Sonic For Hire version of the characters again lifted me out of such a gloomy 2017 and hoping there would be another series then woolah... 2019 there was and it was a great year.
I think I can conclude that whatever year has a Sonic For Hire series is guaranteed to be a good year.

new game: Sonic: Dancing all night
Honestly, a Sonic-themed Rhythm game might be awesome.
Each track is a Zone, every note you hit fills a Ring bar (and missing causes you to drop a portion of your rings), allowing you to go into a Boost mode at certain parts, and if your score is high enough near the end you turn into one of his super forms and can unlock additional stages and Boss battles. IE: Getting S Rank in "Knight of the Wind" results in going Golden Knight Sonic and getting access to "With Me."
You can even have sections where you can get a trigger to change routes changing the tempo or style of the track, finding other secrets in the process. Like maybe going on a grind heavy route in City Escape opens up some Beat and Gum as playable characters and a Jet Grind Radio track, and finding your way to the GG's base would get you a Jet Grind Sonic costume or something. Maybe a Streets of Rage 2 track with Skate as well, or a NiGHTS stage.
Hell, between the Project Diva and Dancing All Night-style games, this is pretty much already in their wheelhouse.

My top 10 favs are 1)Lava Zone part 2, 2)ice cap, 3)chemical plant, 4)marble zone, 5)knuckles theme music, 6)flying battery, 7)mystic cave and 8)oil zone, AND the Sonic3 bonus stage with all the spheres and power ups as you make your way up the stage.. possibly cuz when you heard this song you knew it wasnt the same bonus casino stage they always threw you in!
