I'll be honest: I'm not a huge fan of this video. The editing feels rough and I talk way to much. However, I decided to still upload this video as I've not found any real reviews of the F-104S which were made after it was moved to 11.0. Therefor, I feel like this video has a purpose; warning people to not buy this plane. - Hry

f104s are really fun, like the f104a is just really fun to play... because its at 9.3 and does well. The missiles the F104S TAF carries and how it plays is not worth it at 11.0, if it was at a lower br i think it would definitely be worth it as it is an amazing plane, and you could do VERY well
I don't think it should go down rather jets go up (f16/mig29/f14) should go to 12.3 or 12.7

Well the first problem isn't that you wanna spend $70 dollars nor fly an f104 at 11.0, nah its the fact you wanna grind out Italy.

The top end Italian air is pretty good right now, the AV-8B plus is really good for CAS and gets AIM-9M , F-16 ADF is pretty okay

I bought the F104S-TAF when it was in 10.7.And 9 out of 10 matches i get f5c and a10's as enemy and at that time,
it was very op against those vehicles.Now in 11.0 ,not really bad but it does can bomb bases very quick and escape very fast from enemies.I have grinded 6.7M in silver lions and 1.3M in research points.If youre still playing this vehicle ,just bomb bases and run back or try to take enemies that are premium noobies

I basically did the exact same as you, i managed to grind thru italy fully and then it got put at 11.0 still use it as a bomber tho
Same bought coz y'know Turkish ...i had to but yes it literally helped me grinding all the way to the Italian F-16 within days using bombs and sidewinders
same i got 7 kills on noobies f5cs su25ks and a10as but now its completly useles plane is good but matchmaker killed it. i love how su25k stayed 9.7 for 8 months
Yeah, I did the same and was managing almost a 4:1 K/D. Once it got bumped up to 11.0, that quickly changed, and I've hardly touched it since.
back when this thing was on 10.7 it was very pleasant, once it got moved to 11.0 - never touched it
As someone who only play SB nowadays, the opposite is true for me, this thing is honestly the most potent SB mount I have mainly due to the sheer speed advantage it has over the most common enemies I face.
This thing for some reason sits at 10.3 in SB and there's never a lack of food in the form of A-10's and SU-25's and if I ever find myself in an empty room, those magical tiny wings can somehow carry enough ordnance to blow up a base in one run, it's especially nice coz it can drop the bombs at supersonic speeds.
Phantom can’t even do that last thing. F-5C at 10.3 also in SB barely goes Mach 1 and only gets two aim-9es and half the guns of an F-100. And it’s still a good bomb sled at 10.3.

Now since the f104s is on 11.0 it should get the aspide missels because its on the same br as the F4E with aim-7e2.
And it's same br as F-4EJ with AIM-7E, so it shouldn't have E-2's

@@vincentreim8962The F-104S had to remove the gun to fit the avionics to fire Sparrows or Aspides.
Hence why you never see an F-104S with Sparrows that DOESN'T have the gunport faired over
The aspides were never equipped to the F-104S TAF. Mostly because it was an export variant and didn't have the proper computers for the aspides
I bought a talisman for the regular 104s and I use it in sim. It s a very good plane there, especially now that they added new brackets and it's not constantly facing top tiers. Also I think the matchmaking system in sim is waaaay better than rb. All planes are useful at least once a week and there is no plane that is always frustrating no matter what
They’ve made big improvements in sim. Contrails were a huge sim improvement as well.
from watching defyn a lot, ive become a lot more grateful for having a gun in my J35XS, hard to use since no tracers and its only one far to the right 30mm, but its gotten me a fair few kills in turning and head ons that wouldnt have been possible with only missiles
I have Italy ground grinded out in full so I bought this to bully heli's and drop occasional bomb loads in ground rb. For that, it works just fine. The second you spawn, dive down to the ground and fly around the map to get near heli bases and then just boom and zoom them till they stop spawning. Most ground rb players who buy their way to top tier don't know how to evade missiles either, so you can slaughter hordes of premium attackers too.
In Air SB however this thing is a monster, it sits at 10.3 and the way BR brackets work in sim you can get into 9.3-10.3 match every single time
You zoom around at 1400 kph and sling 6 missiles at oblivious attackers who barely have enough skill to fly straight and bomb bases
To be fair I havent flown 104S yet, but I had many great games in german 104G at 10.3 and that plane is much worse with weaker engine and less missiles
F-104S is amazing in sim. Hands down one of the, if not the best 10.3 jet.

Sim is the reason why I think most of the Rank VII premium's are worth the money. Huge RP/SL bonuses, cheap fly-out costs, and depending on the day an insanely good BR matchup make almost all of them great and fun planes to fly.

As an italian main, i troughly enjoyed that small time frame when the Asa was the one of the best top tiers in the game. With the addition of the f16 and the mig29 all the f104 were sadly rendered useless. Thank god for the italian f16 tho
I fly sim battles And there you can Have 10.7-11.3 battles ever two days. That means you won't meet F-14's with F-104S.ASA. The plane is still The King in that BR
For 70 dollars that snail better personally deliver a fully functional F-104 to my doorstep

The same can be said about the Ariete. One of, if not the best, pure dogfighters at its BR, but almost always gets uptiered to the missile meta with no missiles or countermeasures. I stick to the G.91 R/4 for grinding the Italian air tree
The G91 r4 is such a pleasant plane to use, and i have gotten some really interesting dogfights in it! You can outturn pretty much anything you meet. Only gripe i have is the low top speed.
For me, the F104 has a stereo type of being the last player on the enemy team, against an F-14. Prolly because that happens to be all the time in the F-14
F4s: 4x AIM9H, 4xAIM7F, PD radar, 11.3
104 TAF: 4x AIM9P, 2x AIM7E, Pulse radar, 11.0.

It’s like with the Swedish premium darken at 10.7 it has the same missiles much better dogfighting capabilities( MUCH BETTER) and only a bit slower but that thing stays at 10.7

Only jet i ever bought on release, main italy and love the space needle. Sadly they uptiered it to 11.0 after like 2 weeks making it see constant uptiers and making it 90% useless
I was looking at this in the last sale. I went with the Ariete at 9.3 instead. Even without missiles or countermeasures, it's so fun to play and made grinding so much easier.
While definitely at a disadvantage at its BR since the Ariete has no missiles nor countermeasures its still a little monster. Managed to get an ace in it against even A-10s and SU-25s. The thing just holds energy insanely well and the guns are just about lasers
Italy was my fastest grind, early and mid tier are pretty OP imo, top tier is where Italy suffers.
But man I love the star fighters, they’re so fun to fly

I have grinded every single vehicle in the Italy air tree using the F-104S TAF, and I love it.
Don't get me wrong, the plane itself is utter dogshit, but across 400+ battles in it I achieved a win rate of 49% and... only 93 air kills.
I understand that starfighters are *supposed* to be fighters, but the S TAF is a terrible fighter.
What it CAN do, is go fast. Bring bombs, bind a flare button, enable your afterburner and for the love of god, learn how to evade radar and IR missiles. Once you've got that down, you're set to get bases in a large majority of your games - sometimes up to 4 bases per game, giving you hundreds of thousands of RP (Depending on if your team can win for you)
If you REALLY want air kills, you can aim for a few head-ons, but know that they massively increase your chances of dying.
PS, always fly to the left, unless you're mentally prepared for 3/4 of the enemy team to be flying on a collision course with you.
I bought this plane when it was at 10.7 and I absolutely loved playing this jet. I’d shoot down F-5C’s all day long. But then it got up tiered to 11.0 and it’s just not the same anymore… i love playing my F-104’s and I have every one for the Italian Tech Tree. I use it to bomb bases now. But I will always miss using boom and zoom tactics with this place and it being fun… hopefully one day it gets down tiered again back to 10.7
This thing was soo good if you where even slightly skilled at the game, I had a 70% win rate in 300 battles. I just pop flares and turn slightly if I ever had a missile at me

@Cakeadventure my original comment was pointed towards when the jet first came out at 10.7. There wasn't really anything that could get you if you saw their misslie being fired.
Meh the saddest premium right now is the J2M5, thanks to the gun nerf you get 42 shots and 2/3rds of them are black puffs. Had one hit me 6 times in my 109 G6...no crits, just a slightly yellow fuselage. I felt so bad for the guy 😢
I had two back to back aces in the F-104S at 11.3, then got full uptiers the next 5 games in a row, getting maybe one kill if I was lucky. That thing stomps when it is downtiered, but an absolute victim when you have to face 11.7s or up
as a near exclusive 104 player, this is a fun plane (not sure abt the premium but) i enjoy how the 104 flies and fights, and ive got 5 aces and 2 double aces with the 104 a and 104 c. its my favorite plane
I got this jet for the grind so i own it since it came out, was given to me more or less as a gift to try and do one of the nations i havent touched yet and get eventually the new 12.0 jets.
That being said, at 10.7 i was unstoppable and probably part of the reason it got bumped up. I got at least 1 base and 2-5 missle kills every game garanteed. Yes you can carry enough bombs for a base and missles for days as if were.
At 11.0 its a 50/50 if you get uptiered and its drastically less effective. But bare in mind at 12.0 you are going to always skirt the map, bomb a base and then use your speed to be a vulture with missle kills but do so on the way back to base.
You can buy this, its 60% of the time a fun meatball, not much that it meets can keep up with you in most encounters. The other 40% is purely just full uptier and the issues it presents.
Take this jet with a grain of salt, if you pick it up its great, i wouldnt say its worth 70 anymore either but im not as harsh, id say wait for pack sales, the 20-50% off ones and you want to grind italy up or even a good silver grinder. This all day.
(Wait till after gaijin fixes economy though before giving them anymore money though)
It was usable when it was 10.7 i have a 3kd with about 200 games in it and ever since it got 11.0 i have not touched it

I used it in Air RB to grind Italy and had the most fun playing it while also doing well. My mind set is if you go into playing a vehicle knowing it’s shit you’ll do better and have more fun

i have over 750 battles in the tech tree F104S and i absolutely love this plane. if you play with discipline and think ahead its super effective.
Joint worst with the ADTW imo, a plane with only regular 7E's and no agile eagle package at the same br as the F4E with both.
Also no Guided CAS munitions (if you want to use it as CAS)
As a F104S/ASA player you correct on all points I have the load out where you can mount the Aspides because I got it before the patch made it impossible to mount and even then you have to play like rat and finding a new target before you die I hope they can do something for the F104s' so they can be fun again at Top tier but I don't they will nor know how too

true, but the 104A's missiles are pretty bad and facing MIG21 constantly makes it basically impossibles in uptiers
this tactic also applies to the MiG-21's and other Delta Wing Fighters like the mirage
Big brain play: Talisman the tree 104S when talismans are on sale instead. It will cost you quarter that for effectively the same plane with same grinding power...
you know....when this plane come out(the TAF i mean)at 10.7 it was actually pretty decent and i really enjoyed it quite a lot. Unfortunately since its been moved up to 11.0 its unplayable since it has to face stuff like the F16,F14 and mig 29
The matchmaker is really rough on literally any F104, at 9.3 you’ll constantly get uptiered to face mig23’s, su25s, F8’s, harriers, just so many planes that are as fast as the f104 but have way better missiles, maneuverability, radar, and have countermeasures. Basically, be ready for pain.

The best playstyle for this plane is go little bit to the left, wait for the furball to form, then rush to furball, kill slow planes with guns, fire missiles on nonsuspecting enemies and just fly through the furball and run, once you are decently away from the furball turn and repeat
I love the F104 A+C they’re my babies. Nothing is more fun than zooming around at 1300kph
So a slightly worse mig 21spk, when you turn you loose a lot of speed. With the mig you choose between countermeasures or the cannon.
Tip: Buying premiums from the steam marketplace is usually cheaper. sometimes they will be crazy markups like 14.99 for a p-26, but i've seen rank 6 jets go for 30

if the BR ceiling becomes 12.3 (or even 13,0) and all the top-tier 4th gens get bumped up, this and things like the j7e will really come into their own.
Until then, though, anyone dumb enough to spend $70 on a 104S at 11.0, gaijin will take your money, not thank you for your patronage, then wait for you to cough up another $70 as you realise your mistake
I think I am partly responsible for pushing the tas up to 11.0 because I spent 12 hours seal clubbing in it when it was 10.7
I buy premiums to grind when I don’t have a lot of planes so this is something I would consider if i didn’t have it in the US tech tree I’d rather buy a different jet

As someone who has the plane and plays it very regularly. I find its best at bombing bases and definitely does not belong at 11.0. It stands no chance against Mig 29s, f16s, and f14s. It would work the best at 10.7
But when it does get downtiered i have some the best games i have ever had with it. Its fun but sucks

I am one of the fools who bought it early on after a shill said this was the fastest way to the F 16. The tactic you have employed I figured out three matches in to my ownership and have stuck to that since. Once out of ammo I then RTB ans swap to AA arming.

with new sim br changes it's actually fun to play in asb, but i still don't think it's worth 70 usd.
How to play F-104S:
1) Add the letters ASA to the end
2) congrats now you are in the same plane but with better missiles and a better radar in essentially the same MM

How about now? 50% off is it worth to grind italy. Im only doing it for the av8b and for future future eurofighter, im looking for a short grind to get those jets so its the only option
If you want to grind out Italy really badly, then I guess it would be worth it for 35 USD; you don't really have any other options to consistenly grind ITA air with.
The plane itself is not worth 35 USD in my humle opinion, but maybe it's ability to grind Italy is worth it to you.

@@WalvisYTwell I got the f104 and it's insane for grinding. Played 78 games and got 80 something kills and then 1 base a game. In those 78 games I've gained 2.3million sl and 300k+ rp.

For 30 USD, I think its alright. Its still not a great deal, but if Italy is your last tree and you just want to grind to the top, I also don't think its a terrible purchase either. Especially if you play sim.

I have a talisman on the f104s and have like 4kd. That is pretty average for me around this br. So it is pretty decent.
I once got a 9k in the Mirage F1C-200 so its clearly the best premium available.

I think you misunderstood the porpoise (intended) of this masterful aircraft (I only use the TT one lol 16k SL funny). The point is haha plane go zoom. Haha missile go boom.

I exclusively use the sparrows in downtiers, like I love this plane BECAUSE it it stupid. you video made perfect sense lol, and I completely understand (I'm literally the person who unironically plays the ariete and MiG 21 PFM to have fun and I turn off my engine alot to dodge missiles) I enjoy the pain and suffering! Great video though, I know the plane is not "competitive" like an F-5C but I like having to do things differently
