I really love how Bail punches the railing when he watches the clone army on Coruscant. It greatly shows his anger at the start of the war and the general failure to secure peace.

Recently found this channel and want to say I agree with your statement 100%. I let people kind of turn me off from new Star Wars stuff for awhile until recently I got back into it, and it's so much more enjoyable to be positive about it like our channel host here. My favorite fictional universe :)
The whole scene of Obi-Wan and the younglings’ training with Yoda is just excellent. It’s the best insight into Yoda we’ve ever gotten and in such short time

For a long time when I was a kid, AotC was my favorite Star Wars movie... admittedly largely because of Battlefront 2 and Lego Star Wars.
Special memories of this one - it was the only prequel my grandad owned. He’d shown me the original trilogy on VHS and he had episode 2 on DVD. I used to borrow the DVD so much I broke the case and he ultimately let me keep it because I borrowed it so much. Became my favourite Star Wars film for a long time (Kind of still is in many ways). He passed away last year and I always get emotional whenever I open that broken DVD case and watch this movie

I always loved the one clone trooper who falls out of the gunship with Padme and goes to check on her. Something about the image of a lone soldier doing his best to keep going and tend to a civilian feels really good. I also like the headcanon that that clone was Rex, and Anakin promoted him to Captain out of gratitude.
I do like that the movie didn't just say "oh, he died" from the fall that the un-armored Padme clearly survived. I always sympathize with the redshirts, and I like it when some of them make it.
Fun fact: Dooku's lightsaber hilt was curved as a nod to a sword that Christopher Lee actually had that was a family heirloom (which also had a curved hilt)

Lee was one of the most interesting actors to have ever lived imo. He was special forces, he was Dracula, decades of being cinema's go-to horror man. He was a hardcore fan of Lord of the Rings, to the point where Peter Jackson regarded him as an expert. Apparently re-read the books every year.
He was also just flat out imposing even as an elderly man. His stage presence combined with his height and voice was intimidating. His scene interrogating Kenobi is the best scene of Attack of the Clones and one of the best Prequel Era scenes imo

Admittedly, AotC is near the bottom of my Star Wars ranking. But whenever I watch it I still get filled with such massive nostalgia for so many moments throughout. It’s the best example in the saga of how even my least favorite Star Wars movies are still Star Wars and still mean so much to me.
The sequels are bottom for me

I particularly like its masterfully done ending scene, of the clone army being prepared for battle, Palpatine along with other senators overlooking the preparations, and Bail Organa subtle expression of defeat because he had hoped for negotiations to prevail over seeing the galaxy plunged into war. Complete with the sunset over Coruscant, the symbolism of the imminent fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire is powerful.
I really hope the sequels are not part of your ranking, Attack of the Clones is so much better than those things in so many ways

The scene when Anakin leaves the Lars homestead is one of the most powerful scenes in all of Star Wars.
and the short scene of him on the speeder bike racing to find his mom. sick ass scene
Attack of the Clones has special place in my heart. The action scenes are awesome. The beginning of Anakin’s fall, the lightsaber fights, Obi-Wan battling Jango on Kamino, the asteroid chase with the incredible sound of the seismic charges and the huge battle on Geonosis.

Its that break in the battle on Geonosis where Anakin swirls his light saber, for some reason i just love that bit.
_And_ the concluding sequence, of the clone army and ships departing from Coruscant to battle, and the sunset symbolizing the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire. For with the beginning of the Clone Wars, the emergence of the Empire was no longer a question of "if", but "when".
I think it’s smart that they didn’t just reveal that a “Master Sidious” ordered the clones. The Jedi order would immediately question it, as no one in the order used that Epithet. And they would be much more suspicious of and hesitant to utilize an army ordered by someone wholy unknown to them.
Honestly though, I would ask A LOT of questions if the guy that ordered it was called freaking... TYRANNUS !

My first favorite film ever. Not just Star Wars. I fully embrace loving Attack of the Clones and its mix of madness and sincerity.
I was obsessed with this movie at age 11, I watched it countless times, and I STILL learned some new things from this video. I never noticed Jango hitting his head, and I’m stunned about the “old folks home” line, that is an amazing inclusion.
Although it's not IN the movie, I like how even the commonly disliked Star Wars movies left their impact on culture. Eg: the sequence of Shepard and Liara chasing Vasir and its skybox in ME2's Lair of the Shadow Broker must have been inspired by the Coruscant chase scene, their reactions are even equivalent to Anakin and Obi Wan.
The first time I played the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC and got to that bit I went "Oh cool, Attack of the Clones"
I'll never forget seeing this movie in theaters as a kid. I was instantly obsessed with Jango Fett and the Clones. As we were leaving the theater, we could hear the battle of geonosis happening in one of the other theaters so me and my dad and my best friend went in and stood by the stairs to watch the duel between yoda and dooku a 2nd time immediately after seeing it. Such an amazing experience that I'll never forgot. I will always love this movie

I love the short order cook droid yelling at R2-D2, "Hey! No Droids! Get out of here!" because of the irony of the situation.
Something I saw some time ago, but wanted to mention, was that in the battle of Geonosis, the clones come from the right side of the screen. Typically, the good guys will advance from the left and the bad guys from the right. The direction in that scene foreshadows what will happen with the clones

@@mccabbagepatch I'm just guessing here but it may have something to do with the meaning behind characters moving a certain direction. If a character walks towards the left they're walking towards the past. If a character walks to the right it means they're going towards the future.
Love the tiny sorrowful movement of Bail Organa at Clone Wars begin/ the troops boarding balcony shot. There something about the frustration of the closed fist on the balcony - says a lot, mirroring something I can't place. Don't know why.
It's as though he's silently lamenting his failure to stop the inevitable despite his best efforts to do so.
This year I also turn 20, so I feel a kinship with AotC! It's a movie I've clearly come to recognize the weaker aspects of, but there's still so much I love about this movie. The shots of the regimented clones on Kamino never ceases to give me chills.
Just rewatched it last weekend. No film is perfect, and this one is no exception. That said, I’ve always enjoyed Episode II, flaws and all.

Never expected to see god here
This film introduced Zam Wesell, my absolute favorite SW character - honestly I want more content about her. If Darth Maul can survive being cut in half and falling down a bottomless pit I am fairly sure she could surrvive a toxic dart. I'd like her death to be retconned basically lol.
She had one of thee coolest ships in the entire genre.

Also his face after the kiss - just before the cut - looks weird and funny, as if Hayden himself knew how wooden/cringeworthy the line was while filming.
Despite how bad the romance plot is, I love that Anakin fakes his death and Padmé come running just for him to be laughing and they tumble down the hill. It's not much, but it's the one real moment in the movie where I can really believe their romance coming into being because Padmé is finally able to just be herself and she's not thinking about all the things happening in the Galaxy and worry about another assassination attempt.
@The Cambot The last time I watched Attack of the Clones, I kind of came to the conclusion that Padmé certainly finds Anakin physically attractive, and despite saying she is uncomfortable with his staring and some of the things he says, she is flattered by his attempts and finds something charming about his utter cluelessness. Like she finds it's cute how hard he's trying. She can also tell he's just so confused with how the Jedi have raised him the past ten years. I wouldn't go so far to say that she "truly... deeply..." loves him by the end of the movie to the point of marrying him, but had they been forced into hiding for a few weeks or months, there's certainly a few starting points to their relationship in this movie because I absolutely buy their relationship in Revenge of the Sith and especially in Clone Wars (both versions), cheesy dialogue and all. It's just this movie where it's unbelievable.
My dad brought Star Wars to my life with the special editions on VHS (yeah, I know. You're old too), and this was the first SW film we saw together in the cinema.
Hearing my dad giggling when Yoda ignited his lightsaber is Top5 greatest Star Wars moments in my book :)
The Yoda revealing his lightsaber is a Top 5 theatre-going moment for me, seeing it at the Ziegfeld Theatre in NYC; the place went NUTS!!
AOTC is easily my favorite of the prequels, mainly because it has the best pacing of the three. I love how the divergent stories dovetail at the end into a huge climatic battle. The whole movie is fraught with foreshadowing and dramatic irony. Definitely an under-appreciated episodes the saga.
Aright. I'll admit it publicly. This is my favorite Stars Wars movie. I love Anakin and Padme and this is the movie when they're at their best. Some of my favorite things not mentioned in the video:
"Why do I get the feeling you're going to be the death of me?"
"Well, if it works." Which not only foreshadows Anakin's fall, but highlights a key difference between Sidious and Vader. Sidious enjoys pain and suffering and hurts people for the Sith of it. Vader does it in the name of peace and justice. Still definitely wrong, but it's the reason why a lawful evil character can be a protagonist and neutral evil and chaotic evil characters are not.
And I also super enjoy after the fight in the hanger when Padme runs up to Anakin--they're in the background so it looks like it's just a hug, but someone zoomed in on it and it looks like Natalie and Hayden might be full on making out back there. Which makes Obi Wan and Yoda THE most unobservant Jedi in the Order.

LOVED AOTC from the first time I saw it in theaters. The noir elements, the opening battle of The Clone Wars, and yes even the romance of Padme & Anakin.

Jango is honestly my favorite Star Wars character because of not only of the bounty hunter game, but because he made Boba and mandalorians so cool. Everything great about the two came from Jango’s on screen appearance, from the shiny beskar armor to the cowboy style for blaster wielding. Also don’t forget his clone army which was awesome throughout the clone wars, but also completely changed the galaxy.

I was 28 when episode 1 came out and I loved the prequels, I never understood the hate directed at them. The scene where Anakin speaks of what he did to the sand people, So powerful, The best part and shows his slide to the dark side..
This movie is my first recall-able memory.
I was about 3, my parents took me to the drive-in to watch this movie. I remember standing between their seats, blown away the entire film. Specifically, I remember being super hype when the Clones showed up at the arena.
Actually R2 not using his rockets makes sense because Anakin and Padme are supposed to be keeping a low profile. That’s the whole reason they went to Naboo
One of my favorite scenes in all of Star Wars is when the senators and the chancellor are over seeing the departure of hundreds of thousands of clones. The cinematography is absolutely amazing, the music is fantastic, it is just awesome
Fun fact: The miniature for the Kaminoan building in the background of the Jango/Kenobi fight was built by Adam Savage, later of MythBusters, who was working for ILM at the time. Savage also almost appeared in the film in a shot where Jango pushes a button (since anyone could wear the glove), but something came up and he couldn't do it.
One of the most underrated lines in AOTC (and in the prequels and/or the saga in general), is the “I'm good at fixing things, always was" line.
As it perfectly foreshadows Anakin's control problem, which ultimately leads to his down fall. In other words, he likes fixing things, just like he wanted to fix the problem with his mother here and with Padme later, but he couldn't. This obsession got so out of control that he wanted to "stop people from dying", because he thought he could "fix anything".
Anakin's passion to fix things and his attraction to handicrafts is referred to too often and too clearly to miss the hint that there has to be a deeper meaning to this. I mentioned the control problem, machines are a lot easier to control than living beings, let alone complex situations. He wants to be in control when the fate of people close to him are at stake. But as Padme said, sometimes there are things that can't be controlled and fixed.
On a side note, there’s something else about this emphasis on portraying Anakin as a craftsman. Craftsmen, with respect to their typical image, are practical people. They work directly, lengthy discussions are not their thing. The craftsman portrayal of Anakin to me implies a direct, practical mind and intelligence. No delusions, no intrigues, no interest in political maneuvers. And resulting from this, a lacking ability to see through plots like the one of Palpatine’s.
Fun fact about the speeder chase: the XJ-6 airspeeder bears a strong resemblance to a car that was in George Lucas' second movie American Graffiti (1973). I even have a custom LEGO spaceship that has a pretty similar resemblance to Zam’s.
I can't believe that people out there thought that Attack of the Clones was not a good Star Wars movie! It's literally one of my favorites, if not, my favorite alongside The Empire Strikes Back.
It's one of those Star Wars movie where even if you know how things turn out, you still watch all of it as a newcomer to the story, waiting to see what's next!

The clone wars/prequels have always been my favorite and aotc is definitely a great way to start off the clone wars! I always enjoy new content from that era and revisiting content from that era as well. I could go on all day about it.
I love Threepio's little nod during the wedding scene. No one else might've approved of them getting married, but those two loyal droids sure did!

Episode II is one of the Star Wars movies with the most amount of things I like in a Star Wars movie: a cool new Mandalorian character, Phase 1 Clone Troopers, first peek into street-level Coruscant, first full-on Jedi attack, first display of Jar'Kai lightsaber fighting style, first time Yoda fought with a lightsaber, first time a purple lightsaber was shown, first full-scale infantry war between two major factions (in Geonosis), and the first time a bearded Obi-Wan appeared in the prequels!

The marketing campaign for this movie was why I saw this movie 9 times in the theater when it came out. So happy that we're getting so much prequel love these days, because I genuinely love all of the prequel movies and the production team and staff involved in these deserve the highest praise for pushing technology and movie making in a new direction as well as taking such a bold vision and running with it.
Despite hating this movie, I loved some of the count Dooku / Christopher Lee quotes, such a potent / intimidating voice
Shame GL thought it was a good idea to have him appear 86 mins into the movie, with no set up in episode 1
Thats 1 of many things I noticed about episode 2, it feels like GL is trying to course correct, and makes us forget all of episode 1 due to it being very hated, and Dooku and these separatists and clones come out of nowhere, along with little mentions of the previous movie, and padme suddenly being a senator now ? kinda odd how she doesn't want a Republic army, even though her world was defenceless when invaded by an army
I love how episode 2 opens up. After the fan fare that is the opening crawl the music get quite almost ominous. Combine that with the clouds and dark looking day on the planet it makes a great build up to the explosion.
I enjoy seeing a Corellian ship resembling the Millennium Falcon (is it?) landing on Naboo's spaceport in a quick scene as Anakin and Amidala arrive.
My favorite thing is the one or two jedi in the background of the arena battle duel wielding lightsabers
The most atmospheric and beautiful star wars movie imo. All the planets and locations feel lived in and look incredible. Everything on coruscant is just amazing and the chase scene is a top ten star wars moment for me. Soundtrack is incredible and really ties everything together.
The Jango/Obi-Wan face to face conversation is probably my favorite part of the movie.
Can’t believe it’s already 20yrs old…AOTC is actually a big guilty pleasure of mine and one of my favorites lowkey. I was 10 when this movie came out, the perfect age to enjoy all the good stuff, while ignoring the bad. If you can ignore the cheesy dialogue, and the CGI that really gets way too much hate, then you have yourself a pretty good political thriller with a detective element, that ultimately leads to one of the largest galactic wars in the Star Wars universe. What AOTC did right was unleash Yoda, showcase the most Jedi we’ve ever seen in live action, and implement an engaging detective story that centers around my favorite SW character, Jango Fett (hands down the coolest cat in all of Star Wars). And this detective story ultimately leads to an awesome ANH callback in the Clone Wars…AOTC managed to do this while properly expanding the lore, introducing all new ships, weapons, characters, and planets that paired with amazing visual/sound design (gotta love those seismic charges 😍)
One of my favorite moments in Attack of the Clones is the "aggressive negotiations" exchange. Full disclosure without getting too negative, I'm not the biggest lover of the prequels but one thing I've always loved about them is that they kept a natural sense of wit. Sure some of it could be groan-inducing due to the nature of some of the puns but it really emphasizes that pulpy, camp atmosphere of the old adventure stories that Star Wars was birthed from. Also the subtleties at play with Dooku's conversation with Obi-Wan were great. I loved getting to see a Sith who wasn't a monster like Maul and Palpatine were but also wasn't super-conflicted. Even without knowing his story in the EU, I feel George and Christopher Lee both did an amazing job of giving this character a sense of history without spelling everything out.
The most underrated Star Wars movie imo and everything on Geonosis and Kamino is Peak Star Wars
Episode II was my very first Star Wars movie. I had it on VHS as a kid and would watch it every weekend on loop. I remember my first time watching and seeing Dooku meet up with Sideous and I remember audibly gasping when I realized Palpatine was Sideous (again, I was a kid). Also, it's so subtle, but on that balcony scene with the Clone Army and Palpatine looking out at them at the end, you can see Bail Organa do a lite punch of his fist on the rail of the balcony, almost as if he knows this isn't right and is like, "dang it!".
One thing I would definitely add to this list is the design for the Super Battle Droids. They do a great job of looking unique and intimidating while still looking enough like the B1 droids that it seems like a natural progression.
I was 7 when I saw this and I still remember my theater's reaction to Yoda's lightsaber, everyone went nuts much like how they did when Captain America got to use Thor's hammer in Avengers Endgame. So awesome!
the last 3:45 of Ep 2 is the best ending in cinematic history. the Clones, the ships, sidious looking on. the Imperial March leading into the love theme (Across the Stars) forces tears every time.

14:07: Last summer, my family and I went to the Tanglewood festival, where I saw John Williams and Anne-Sophie Mutter. John Williams wrote his second violin concerto for Anne-Sophie Mutter, and she played it along with the orchestra on the day after he wrote it, which was on July 23rd, 2021. After he finished conducting his second violin concerto, John Williams turned to the audience and said: "I am now going to conduct some music from Star Wars. It is called Across the Stars, but for the life of me, I don't remember which movie it's from." However, the moment he began conducting I knew it was from Attack of the Clones. Across the Stars might just be my favorite piece of music from the prequel trilogy, alongside Battle of the Heroes. That I saw John Williams conducting this is a memory I will hold throughout my life.
The third act for this movie is AWESOME
I loved all those little obscuring the Battle of Geonosis. I remember watching and laughing with my friend each time.
I remember the IMAX cut of AOTC, which was released later in 2002. It cut out about 20 minutes and, frankly, the movie felt all the better for it. For example, when R2 nudges Threepio into the droid factory, it cuts to Threepio landing in a heap, removing the whole sequence where the flying droid catches him and tosses him around like a doll. The romance subplot is streamlined, as well. IIRC. I would love to see that cut again!
I too saw that cut. I initially wasn't going to watch this one in the theatre as I still had a bad taste in my mouth from Phantom Menace, but got talked into seeing this.
One of my favorite moments from Attack of the Clones is actually the extended version of the scene with Obi-Wan and Jocasta Nu, where she finds Obi-Wan poring over Dooku’s Lost 20 bust.
Jocasta Nu explains Dooku’s departure from the Jedi and how he’s now risen up as head of the Separatists. In the process, she likens him to Qui-Gon Jin and calls both of them idealists due in part because of their shared habit of not always being in-step with the council.
The lore history lesson is enjoyable and helps bring watchers up to speed, but Obi-Wan’s face truly lighting up at the mention of his master is a rather touching moment for the character.
Otherwise, I really love everything about Kamino. It brought so many questions 20 years ago; why are these mysterious beings on this clearly dangerous and practically inhospitable planet, and what are they doing? All of the interior shots feel soft and a little too bright which always gave me a dream-like atmosphere that helped capture the mystery and confusion of what was unfolding so well.
As a kid I loved(and still do) the courasant scenes the city just always looked so cool and the zam chase is always a blast

Episode II: Attack of the Clones is, to my knowledge, the first movie I ever saw in a movie theatre! At least, the first one that I chose to go see myself! To this day, I have so much nostalgia for this movie...

I was 15 when this came out. I remember loving it at the time , and I remember the theater going crazy when Yoda pulls his lightsaber out.
AotC may be at the bottom of my Star Wars rankings, but damnit I can't help the chills I get when those dropships enter the arena. The music and the sound of those engines mark the start of an amazing time period in the Star Wars lore. ''The Clone Wars have begun''.
The thing that I think is most ambitious in how George made AOTC is that by the end, the conclusions you reach as an audience member to the plot narratives you’ve been following all movie are wrong. All the answers to the questions are misdirects.
Who was trying to kill Padme? End of AOTC leads you to believe it was Dooku on behalf of Nute Gunray as revenge for TPM. But no, it was Palpatine because she was trying to stand in the way of the Military Creation Act. Obi-Wan was wrong. The Jedi were wrong. But it’s not clear without the context of ROTS.

Fun Video. As a long time star wars fan who seen them in theaters at their release, Yoda teaming up with the troopers arriving on the chopper for me is still the 2nd Most Shocking Surprise in the Entire Trilogy.[I am you father reveal being #1 obv.] Imagine in 1980 playing with the action figures and having yoda and stormtrooper and someone saying one day in the distant future there will be a movie having these two together on same side. The packed theater I was in went absolutely B A N A N A S when Yoda reached into his cloak for his lightsaber (our screening was delayed by almost an hour because of technical problems too)
Attack of the clones and return of the Jedi are always tied as my top entries in the Star Wars universe, great memories seeing this in theaters also

Ever since seeing this film, I can never get enough Jango Fett content. I was especially happy when he got his own game!! I play that game sooo much as a kid!!! The prequels honestly do not get the love they deserve.
There are only a few parts that drag them down but as a whole, each movie is very good and has a coherent story unlike the sequels.
just the timing of when this movie came out, i think i was maybe 17 yrs old? loved it so much. though i really enjoyed revenge of the sith, episode 2 may have been my fav of this era.

I have loved and advocated for Kenobi's Noir Detective plot for 20 years now.
I think R2D2 probably didn't use his rocket boosters so as not to damage the steps to the Naboo villa
AotC is one of my least favorite SW movies but it has one of my favorite scores. Across the Stars is easily the most brilliant piece of music from the prequels.
I totally agree about the ending with the clone army and the Imperial March blasting. It's my favorite Star Wars ending.

Between the news, the I credibly deep lore knowledge, the interviews, positive vibes and most of all humility and open mindedness and utter lack of resentfulness and the truly sweet chemistry between you and Molly (Molli?), I just can’t imagine The Star Wars experience without you guys, anymore. I always loved episode II very much, I always go back and watch that specific movie so much, I just enjoyed everything about it.

Love this film, although it has its issues its still great overall and has a special place in my heart for the amount of times i watched it as a kid. Top 5 sw film
Ewen McGreggor is gold regardless of what he's in. If you remove the Anakin/Padme love story from Attack of the Clones, it suddenly becomes one of the best Star Wars movies and he's really to thank for that.
Im glad someone is doing videos about why the love something in Star Wars. Most people make videos to complain about various things. I don't want the negativity so this is a nice change
This was the first SW-movie I saw in the theatres, so even though it's lowest on my list (above TRoS), it's still special in a way!
2:12 far right video screen there I think was supposed to portray the Tatooine pod races - I think they even used actual footage from TPM for that brief shot.
