    While it can be argued that, critically, Empire Strikes Back may be seen as the superior movie of the OT, there is just something about A New Hope. While I personally am not fond of the “First is always the best” mindset, A New Hope I feel is one of those rare cases that can justify that because even beyond it being the first one, it is still very good with tons to love and its strengths to call its own even after tons of Star Wars movies and stories out there 40+ years later.

    • @Bad_Wolf_Media
      @Bad_Wolf_Media Před 2 lety +3

      I think the one edge this film has over Empire is that it's a complete, contained story. Had there never been any other films, this would still be a complete fantasy adventure, with a fully realized hero's journey. The character development is lacking, but that's par for the course in traditional fantasy film.
      Think about this movie in a vacuum: We, as the audience, know that there was a ton of adventures that happened before the opening scene, even if we had no idea what those adventure were. Had there been no follow-up, we would feel the same at the end: Yes, there's probably more adventures to be had that we'd never know about.
      I truly think one of the weakest points of the Star Wars franchise as a whole is the demand for details on everything. As Alex talking about here, we get an off-hand comment of Kessel. Do we NEED more than that? We get that it's a bad place, that's all that's needed. But instead there are people that have demanded to know what every single detail, comment, passing reference, etc. needed to be a whole franchise themselves.

    Although The Empire Strikes Back is always considered the best of the Original Trilogy, A New Hope has a special spot in my heart. It’s the perfect start to this wonderful universe. My only wish is that the original theatrical version would be available to the public!!! The special additions are cool, but I love watching the original cut!!!!

    Growing up with the Clone Wars, Revenge of the Sith is my favourite but undoubtably A New Hope is one of if not the greatest movie ever made. Every single scene, quote, character, music piece and sound effect from this film is absolutely iconic over 40 years later and the spectacular practical effects still hold up marvellously to this day. When I think of what a movie is, I think of this movie and thanks to it we have every piece of Star Wars media to this day. The characters are all so memorable and likeable and is a perfect heroes journey. Calling it a masterpiece is underselling it, it is so so so much more!
    Edit: Writing this I realise this is probably tied as my favourite, it’s such a special movie.

    22:52 That battle, as simple as it may seem, is probably the most realistic one in terms of swordsmanship. Sword fighting is not about fancy spins and dramatic moves, but about finding or creating an opening to attack quickly and retreat before they can respond.

    I was so young the first time I saw Star Wars that I don’t have very many clear memories of it. I do remember being fascinated by Tatooine and absolutely adoring Leia. My uncle is a huge Star Wars fan, and I lived with him and my grandma when I was little, so Star Wars was just always there.

    I first saw this movie in 1978 - when it was first released here in Germany (back then, it always took at least 6 months before the movies were dubbed). And I saw it again at the first re-release just a few years later and waas confused why there was "Episode IV" in the crawler. I did not remeber that from the initial release.
    Before I saw the movie, I got hyped by a magazine about it, which introduced some of the characters - especially the Jawas and Sand people stayed in my mind, because they seemed to be so menacing. But in the movie itself, they were outshone by Darth Vader (who was not mentioned in the magazine).
    I was 14 years old at the time, and I already was a fan of SciFi movies, which I had seen on TV. But this was so different than any of these and so memorable!
    I also remember, that the trailer for The Empire Stikes Back was released a year and a half before the movie, and we laughed about the trailer advertising a movie so much in advance, but it got us hyped for the next Star Wars movie!

    One of my favorite parts of anything ever is in this movie.. When Owen walks up to see 3PO and ask him if he is programmed for etiquette and protocol then when he answers tells him that he needs no such droid. Lmao

    Let the wookie win will always stick with me. I remember being very young and asking about my dad's Lego Star wars let the wookie win t shirt. That may have been the reason he introduced me to Wii Lego Star wars

    About the only ones you missed was Owen’s “shut up” C-3PO to the Jawa’s “what!?” when Owen yells at him for selling a bum droid 😂

    Here Is A Goof I Found That A Lot Of You Might See: 25:18. In The Shot Of The Special Edition Of Star Wars (1977) Where The X-Wings And Y-Wings Are Approaching The Death Star It Shows Yavin 4 Directly In The Line Sight Of The Death Star. Thankfully The Original Theatrical Version Does Not Have That.
