    It'd be very good of you to explain to the viewers that this only backs up the operating system NOT the user data, settings & app data

      It looked as though he could backup C:, D:, or any other drive.

      @davesmith9188 it backs up settings but does not create an image of PC as is

    It would be nice to show how to restore system image...

    • @MrDanielh3410

      They can't...because otherwise it'll show them only being able to restore the OPERATING SYSTEM not the user data apps and settings.
      Windows 10 HAS NEVER been able to create a full image and can ONLY BACKUP OS settings to an internal hard drive

    I backup with Aomei which is a really nice one, also helpful to restore files.

    i made a windows 10 setup image on my external hard disk by mistake and all the previously existing files on my hard disk are inaccessible. what can i do?

    One would hope Microsoft would make this easy. Keep hoping then. To restore a win10 machine with a dead HDD, you best have a bootable disk with some utilities. Oh, also the restore function. So Microsoft has made it a few extra steps for cloning had drives.

    I have only one drive i.e. C: drive. If I select the C: drive under Computer, do I still need to select User Libraries under the Data Files section? When I expand the C: drive it shows check marks on all users and their libraries.
    If I select both Data Files and C: drive, is it not going to duplicate?

    Hey great video just what I am looking for. Can I set an backup schedule with an external hard drive?
    Also I am a little confuse with image backup and recovery drive.
    I am gonna attempt my first clean install and I am a bit scared to mess up. Seems like both will make a copy of your OS just fine.
    But is recovery drive only for troubleshoot and reboot the OS (no personal data); and the image backup, as the name suggest a backup of the OS including personal data, but will only work with a working OS so if any problem arises I cannot reinstall the OS/backup?

    • @Herbertech
      @Herbertech  Před 4 lety

      So the recovery drive to restore the operating system is something else, you can download that kind of recovery drive from the Microsoft website if you quickly Google: "Windows Media Creation Tool".
      This video is about creating an image of the entire operating system. You can then use this image to restore the operating system to the state in which you created the image, using the recovery disk you created using the media creation tool. Or you can restore it from within Windows as well. Hope this helps. :)

  • @c-a-t-entertinment7075

    Can you use this disk image on a new PC and clone the whole OS and files through?

    Thanks for the video, what is the main different with creating a System Image backup? Thanks

    • @Herbertech
      @Herbertech  Před 4 lety +1

      System image is a snapshot of your current drive as it is right now, this includes your setting, applications and data, so generally you will get your PC back in the state that it was in when you created the image. In a normal back-up situation, only data (and sometimes settings) is backed up, so you will need to reinstall everything and put the data back in its original location. Hope this clarifies it. :)

      @@Herbertech hey last time I checked windows only backs up your windows 10 operating system...NOT your settings apps and additional data.
      Hence these dodgey software companies being able to rip off so many people with their fake reviews and ransomware methods

    What is the main difference between this and file history? I know file history does not backup the operating system. Is this feasable as a main backup solution?

    • @Herbertech
      @Herbertech  Před 4 lety +1

      File history keeps you files backed up, together with version control of all the files. This makes a copy of the entire operating system, including files and software, but no version control of the files.

    Does this backup drivers, Windows settings and all that too? I'd like to make a backup image of a fresh Windows install but with all the drivers and stuff needed for it to work properly so I don't have to install them again when I want to reinstall my Windows.

    • @Herbertech
      @Herbertech  Před 5 lety +1

      Image backup is an exact copy of the disk. It is a literal copy of whatever your Windows installation looks like at the time of backing up, so yes everything is right in there. :)
