jerry shilling recounts the events of when Elvis met president Nixon
hey guys, this is a cool 10 minute story, narrated by one of Elvis Presley's closest friends - jerry schilling. jerry is still with us, and was one of the famous "memphis mafia", the name given to the band of brothers that he sorrounded himself with. most of them he met when he was at school, or very young (before he made it). he trusted them, and they were like brothers. they all worked for him on the payroll in a variety of jobs. they went everywhere he went, did everything he did, wat whatever time he wanted. just remember when you hear this story that elvis never travelled alone without a bodyguard. he never carried cash, and had never booked a plan or hotel for himself. this is one of many amazing storys about him , he was so unique compared to many other entertainers. there was a whole other side, which is fascinating. thought you'd like this one a lot. cheers, matt

The power of Elvis ! Wish he were here today to help the world ... TCB forever!!!
The Funniest part of this story is about Elvis on his own trying to get around..... He had no idea what to do. The story of him at the Donut shop at 2 AM is outrageous
President Nixon gifted Elvis and his friends gifts. Elvis then said to the president, Mr President, they have wives. And the wives all got gifts 😅😅😅😅
Yeah I know I listened to Sonny West’s talk called Elvis up close and personal by Sonny West telling that story and it was so funny I doggone near peed myself😭
Elvis was a man of the people. He always demanded that the first 5-10 rows on his concerts, were filled with «normal» people, not celebrities or «big shots». He talked to janitors, to security, the «average Joe’s and Jane’s», just lifting people’s spirits by taking the time. Genuine, generous to a fault, a phenomenal entertainer, able to tap in to people’s emotions like no one else has ever done. 46 years after his death, he is more interesting than 1000 other artists combined.
Well said and true. He was an amazing man. Still loved worldwide. 🇿🇦
My all-time favorite Elvis story. The video of the white-house men and Jerry telling this story in their perspectives is So good. ❤ the funniest part is Elvis going into the Presidents drawer regarding gifts. 😂. Need to watch full versions
Ik that part was so funnyyyyy😭😭 he’s such a character, I love him sm
Also you should listen to the talk that Sonny West have called Elvis Up close and personal by Sonny West, he tells awesome stories
Elvis Presley,The Man,The Myth,The Legend
Love this story elvis got what he wanted
There is so much more to the story. Elvis gave Nixon 2 guns from the civrl war as a gift. And he nearly did not get on the plane because he had a gun on him at the steward would not allow ot. But Elvis asked to talk to the pilot, and he was really happy to talk to Elvis and lod him take the gun on board 😂 Different times 😊
Also when him a Shilling drove around in L.A , Elvis suddenly jumped out of the car and went into a donot shop in a bad part of town to buy some donots. A group of gang like young guys surrounded Elvis, star struk and among other things said "that is some nice juwelry you got on". Elvis pulled his coat to the side, showing his gun and smiled while saying "Yes it is, and I intend to keep them"😂 Everybody laughed and said yes, yes of couse Elvis and Elvis said goodby and went out again with the donots.
This story is also on CZcams somewhere.
The most popular photo in Washington is the photo of Elvis and president Nixon
I listened the Sonny West talk that he gave about Elvis, and he told that story too. I almost peed myself listening to it, it was so funny when he said Elvis was looking through his drawer, he asked Nixon to give their wives a gift too (if you watched it before you’ll know what I’m talking about), etc. 😂 I could just imagine Southern Elvis being like that, being so blunt and funny and not realizing it😂😂 idk how to explain it
And also Sonny told a story about a prank that they pulled, they pretended Elvis got a death threat and pulled a gunfight prank on a couple people🤣😂 I could NOT contain myself, they pretended Elvis got shot, etc. You’ll have to watch it (PLEASE DO) but it was one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard in my life. Could someone suggest that they listen to the whole hour-long talk/speech by Sonny West, please? It’s somewhere along the lines of Elvis up close and personal by Sonny West
Theres extended official full video of this meeting at whitehouse archives .. with all the gov officials talking about it . There was a movie re this which is really goid👍.
There were two movies made about his visit to the WH. An older one and the recent one.
Another great story ❤
I never really knew the backstory about that meeting. This was absolutely fascinating. And I really like Jerry Schilling by the way. I really do.
Love it ❤
there is a movie based on this. too frickin funny,, cant make this up
I said it before, but this is why ELVIS is ELVIS and is probably loved more than anyone with the exception of Jesus; as he's not just a once in a lifetime singer, but a once in a lifetime, American.
Thanks, it was awesome. ❤.
Absolutely a wonderful video thank u thank u very much !
Who else but ELVIS!!!
Did Matt ever suggest to you ** (Elvis and the black community that echo will never die part 1&2) it’s another way to see what Elvis went through and what he became, there’s a lot of celebrities in it BB King, 50 Cent, Stevie Wonder, Little Richard, Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Serena Williams, Whitney Houston, fun fact Whitney Houston’s mom Cissy Houston was one of Elvis’s background singers This is a great watch I think you’ll be shocked!!!
And ** Elvis Presley ( King Of Kindness ) Who else can say they helped end Polio and helped raise money and gave of his own money to build the first well known hospital ST JUDE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL..NO ONE ONLY ELVIS CAN!!!!
WOW..I remember back in the day when Elvis did this..There is so much more about this story..Elvis bringing a gun into the White House to give it as a gift to President Nixon.. Something that was suppose to take five minutes ,took hours .. Elvis n the guys stayed n had lunch with the President..It was a very interesting meeting...All the way around..That why we always al Love Elvis..Thank you n Merry Christmas..
It was a tremendous thrill for Richard Nixon to be privileged to meet the King, Elvis Presley.
Elvis never traveled alone, he was really helpless just wandering around.
He didn't sound to helpless to me got the thing done didn't he?
Schilling was at the awards for Elvis movie and Lisa Marie had to hold onto Schilling because of unsteadiness. Lisa Marie died last January RIP. I blame all the gossiper and liars for this destruction of Elvis Lisa Marie and Son Benjiman
Elvis Was The Best Entertainer To Have Walked This Planet ! ❤
If you're doing this kind of content, there are so many things available. One is an interview with his early era drummer DJ Fontana and the whole story of that is amazing in and of itself, but DJ was such an incredible guy. And there is an interview when he is older, well actually there are a few but there's one when he's more middle-aged, and it's just delightful.
And there is a lot of behind the scenes footage, a lot of it around his Vegas residency but one of my favorites is when Elvis is working out the arrangement to Bridge Over Troubled water. He may not have written his own material but apart from being an incredible interpreter, he was a brilliant arranger. And what I like about it is you see that on the one hand they work really hard, but on the other, they have fun. It's fun for me to watch that and then watch the actual performance not long after, the iconic video of 1970 live in Vegas of him doing that, and I'm pretty sure you guys have reacted to that.
Both Elvis and Nixon were Capricorns.
this is a shorter version of what actually happened there is a lot more to this story.
Elvis bought his on plane It’s Called Lisa Marie after his daughter ❤❤❤❤
Happy Holidays 🎄, Everyone 😊 & Nice Reaction Guy's
Jerry Schilling was actually the Executive Producer for the Amazon Original Elvis & Nixon movie.
Well hello there have a wonderful day best wishes love y’all
$500 in 1970 is the equivalent of $4000 today ....
❤❤❤
I visited Graceland after Christmas and our tour got to handle this badge and have our pictures taken with it.
Please play where no stands alone by Elvis and Lisa Marie Presley.thanks Vonnie ❤for the great
I watched a longer version of this story which included the guys that worked in the White House at the time. It was fun to hear their side of the story too, telling how the events unraveled on their end.
Oh yeah, and elvis, Funny Moments, the long version, if you haven't seen that.
Yes, I just looked it up. Gary Schilling did over see and give input into the movie , an Amazon Original Elvis & Nixon. With Kevin Spacey as President Nixon. And Michael Shannon playing Elvis. It’s really done well. I’ve watched it several times. Don’t bother watching the other spoof movie out there about Elvis meeting Nixon, it’s crap. But the one done by Amazon is the most accurate portrayal of what actually occurred. You should also look up Sonny West talking about the meeting. Actually Sonny did a presentation to a small group of people, it’s on CZcams, where he talks about several stories with Elvis. So funny. Sonny is wearing a light purple shirt, or one may say lavender. I know y’all will enjoy it.
There have been two comedy movies made about this story; "Elvis Meets Nixon" (1997) and "Elvis & Nixon" (2016). Both are excellent movies.
Watch The Movie When Elvis Met Nixon ! Historical !
Elvis gave Nixon a .45 pistol as a gift too.
You have to watch the 1998 version of of a movie called Elvis meets Nixon. It was written based on this story. There's two versions of this movie but this one is much better. You should actually do a reaction to it when watching this for the first time.
Sadly, Elvis was a drug addict--on prescription medications. He had so much stuff in his body at the end that the results are mind-boggling. He had a pill doctor, who later lost his license, who would order anything he wanted, and a local Memphis pharmacy for round-the-clock deliveries. He was not in the greatest financial shape at the end, as he supported a large retinue of hangers-on, and Parker, who took half of everything he made, kept him working on tour until the end. He got out of bed, went into the bathroom, and his body finally gave out on him.
Try to search real story of Elvis in CZcams the, Elvis found alive full documentary by Amplified.
I don't say this in a disrespectful way, but Elvis was a boy in a man's body.
He was boyish, for sure, but that was part of his appeal. He also had a very mature man side, and was in touch with his feminine side. All of these facets added up to the fascinating enigma that was Elvis. He will always be incomparable and inimitable.
@@jennyjorgensen9935 That is such a great description. Thank you. The unique combination of child-like, silly, funny, yet macho & so sexy, humble, tender & sensitive but with a very healthy ego & sometimes explosive temper, generous to a fault. Of course we must add other-worldly beauty, charisma & talent. No wonder people are still so fascinated with this complex man. Yes, incomparable & inimitable.
Elvis was a black belt in Karate. You might not get away with calling him a boy in a man's body face to face! There are videos on CZcams of Elvis taking on a stupid heckler in Vegas I believe.
Elvis ' motto, don't come for some unless you want some. He was no pushover. Know 😜 that!😊
@@brendahipsher273 I wasn't referencing his physically, but his mental immaturity. He was like an 11 year old who wanted a badge so badly and desired to flaunt it at every opportunity.
His self-destructive behavior and completely reckless spending were also signs of not quite growing into manhood.
There have been many who were dear friends of Elvis who have said the same as I have: Ann-Margret, Linda Thompson, Sonny West, Red West, Charlie Hodge, and Jerry Schilling himself --the list is long.
I am not trying to demean his character or ignore his various virtues. I'm just stating a common observation.
@@judyzeller3921yes, I agree with your comments 💯%❤❤❤
At least be up front and tell people you charge a fee for requests.
Love Elvis!!!! His meeting with Nixon I would like to believe that had Elvis lived and learned more about Nixon and his ways, Elvis would have not met with Nixon ever again. People over the years seem to look at this meeting as a high note in Elvis's career. No, it was a low note. Elvis is still great though.
It is a high note in his career, because he wasn't into politics, he had his sights set on obtaining the badge, and that's what he got. Mission accomplished, even if it meant speaking to the President.
I get that at the time it looked good. It just hasn't aged well because of the country discovering the crookedness of Nixon. As I said in my opinion had Nixon lived Elvis wouldn't have seen it as a meeting to have had. @@Wildlife_SA.
elvis could easily fake his death knew all the people in the highest of highest position
