We arrived in Copenhagen, and it’s not raining. It’s quite warm, so that’s a good sign. Let’s go and check into the hostel. We’re in Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark. The rain has disappeared, the sun is shining, it’s an absolutely beautiful day. Beautiful day. We’re going to start the day by visiting the famous statue the Little Mermaid. This is the Little Mermaid statue. It is from the fairy tale of the same name, written by the Danish author H.C. Andersen. And, it’s a really sad fairy tale about a mermaid who falls in love with a man on land, and she’s willing to lose her voice in exchange for legs so she can be with him. There’s a lot of tourists here. Seems like a really popular tourist attraction. We travelled around the whole Europe and we haven’t seen anything like this. Not even the peeing statue in Brussels can compare. It’s crazy. This statue is like 200 meters away from Little Mermaid and, to be honest, I think this one is a lot nicer. It’s a lot cooler, but there are like no tourists here at all. That was really funny. We were on our way to Nyhavn, and we just walked through the palace, and there were soldiers marching around with big guns. And the tourists were trying to get pictures, and they were more focused on taking pictures than actually were worrying about where the soldiers were walking. And the soldiers were walking down straight lines, and they go, “Hey, move out of the way.” And the tourist were taking pictures all over the place. It was really funny to see.
Right now, we’re in Nyhavn, it’s a really beautiful, old part of Copenhagen. There are these cafés along the street here, and it’s a great place to come and grab a coffee, grab a beer and just relax in the sun. These buildings here, they’re so colorful and so picturesque. It’s a really beautiful part of town. We’ve had a great morning walking around Copenhagen. We’ve seen some really cool things, but right now we’re waiting for 12 o’clock changing of the guard. And we’ve bought some Danish pastries. Yeah, Danish pastries. It’s kind of funny because in Vienna they’re called Copenhagen bread, and then in Denmark they’re called Vienna bread. Right now we’re walking down Strøget, the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe. Let’s go and grab some lunch. We ordered some smørrebrød, which is the most Danish dish you can think of. In English, you call them open sandwiches, and they look like this. It’s massive, so cool. Yeah, beautiful. You can’t really see the sandwich, but it’s under there. So we’re going to try to finish this. Then after lunch, we’re going to check out the Copenhagen jazz festival. It’s on right now, we’re going to try to find a free concert. This is just massive, so cool. We had a great day here in Copenhagen. It’s been a lot of fun. The weather came out to play; it’s been a perfect day today. And tomorrow, we’re off to Oslo.

Protip from a danish person: The description of the little mermaid story in the vid is wrong. The original story is more of a "mermaid falls in love with sailor, ends up dead via sorrow because she can't have him" - the version told in the video is what Disney made it into...

That's actually Faroese music! It's the band Harkaliðið and Annika Hoydal is the singer.

The reason for the opposite names of Danish pastry is that it was invented in Copenhagen but inspired by Austrian pastries.
During a strike in 1850 among Danish bakers, foreign bakers came to Denmark to seize the opportunity of a country without working bakers, and a lot of Austrian bakers settled in Copenhagen, baking Austrian pastries. After the strike, Danish bakers adopted some of the techniques of Austrian pastries that had become popular, such as lamination, but created their own versions of the recipes. They named the invention "Viennese bread" as a homeage to Austria (and to make it sound exotic), but it was different enough from the inspiration that the Austrians recognized it as a Danish invention, calling it "Copenhagen bread".

Webkilla, actually the description in the video of the main plot is still accurate. You're only describing difference in the original ending, which Disney changed to a happy one where the Little Mermaid doesn't die.

There's always an army of asians at the Little Mermaid.
It's probably because they're tired of being so small compared to Danes (Danes are waaay taller on average) so they love the Little Mermaid, which is pretty small. (Hence the name)

It is because the pastry you ate really originated in Vienna, but were made popular out in the world by the Danes..
