If I have a twin sink and a drain stub in the wall, I expect to take a picture and have it tell me exactly what to buy to attach the sink pair to the stub. I don't want it to say "buy the sink parts and install them". That means, it has to "know" a "P" trap from an "S" trap, how to trap for both sinks, diameters of the pipes, gaskets... etc.
Who proofreads the knowledge base? And who is accountable for its failures?

Exactly, I can find a youtube video on how to make/repair anything. Having the skills, time and patience to do it myself is another matter.

It appears that the harder projects would require additional photos/questions after the initial stage was complete, such as opening the wall and finding more damage. I suppose it's a neat tool but no replacement for human eyes and experience.

    Leaking faucet…
What if there’s no turn off under the sink, it should have you add one. Also get the nimbnut a parts/ tools list to have. More to it than just easy fix.

And what if some "intelligent builder installed the water heater in the Attic on a little plywood island in the middle of the house with an attic access too small to get the water heater down to the second floor and then down to the first dloor...and it is filled with calcium.
In this case, most will need to hire a plumer and sheetrock professional. Water heaters should not be an afterthought when put in a new house!!

@Dirtyharry70585 HVAC is different. It comes in pieces that don't weigh 2 tons...like a water heater filled with calcium.

@LRN2DIY If you want more accurate and detailed responses you need to understand how to write a better prompt. Example: Provide a list of the [top 5] hot water tanks currently available for sale in [City, State]. Then provide detailed instructions for a DIY homeowner to uninstall a residential [MFG MODEL] [Natural gas] [ELECTRIC] [SOLAR] hot water tank that is leaking water. Also, provide detailed installation instructions for a new [Natural gas] [ELECTRIC] [SOLAR] powered hot water tank. Finally, provide estimated removal and estimated installation times.
The more specific your prompt, the better it's response. 😊

Never rely on AI without fact-checking it first. AI's are just extremely fancy text prediction algorithms (Just the text they see is "Query: [thing you asked] Answer:")

According to the latest South Park movie (Panderverse), AI can’t fix anything because it doesn’t have hands and people don’t know how to do anything physical except use a smartphone.

Also in context this is the worse Ai will be, Ai will continue to get better and better, at rates we still can't imagine. Also once paired with a robot look out. and this is coming sooner than we realize.

It is NOT AI..... merely machine readable input from media. Matching Human Prepared knowledge database and sending response. The computer did Not originate the response. Complex / stacked "IF / THEN Statements. Using old coding techniques adapted to current devices.

Great! All the "great innovators" of AI have shown in your interesting examples is a thrust to get rid of you guys which is the WORST outcome!
The average guy in the street would probably want an AI sthg just to do the whole thing for cheap, if he were honest with himself, DIYer or no DIYer.
No evidence of anything like that still.
These computer bods go about ahem improving our lives in the most heavy handed don't think of the consequences way, stumbling along and so on!
