Not only that, he's claiming immunity for stuff he did *before* and *after* he was president.
Coherence is not his strong suit.
He's saying he's above right and wrong, and he had lifelong immunity. He did nothing wrong, according to him, because of this. Immunity is necessary just because the law doesn't see it that way.

Give a president absolute immunity, and you won't have a president but a dictator.
I recommend reading the amicus brief submitted by retired military to SCOTUS in the presidential immunity case. They lay out all the problems with absolute immunity . It's great .

Well, they basically have immunity. W's invasion for example was illegal and he could be tried before the ICC if the US would allow it. Same thing for the drone strikes in the Middle East under Obama.

The Constitution provides for a system of checks and balances. If a President were to have total immunity, there would be no check on his power, therefore, absolute immunity is unconstitutional.

It's absolutely a no-brainer, but weird that the Supreme Court chose to hear it...And if they rule in Trump's favor, that could give the ability of any future president to remain in power (or make it so, so that they can stay in power), and then the only way to stop it after that, is through congress, which gerrymandering could be an issue too. But let's hope our democracy remains strong and to be fair for all people and not just for a group of people in a particular area...

I think the point of presidential immunity is to prevent presidents being impaired in the performance of the policies they were elected to handle. Now, AFTER they're out, that's something else.
This would’ve been better had they shown all the former presidents who didn’t get immunity - Nixon & Watergate, Clinton & Lewinsky, Bush & his “War on Terror,” etc.

He then went on to criminalize his own customers by implementing draconian drug laws that carried penalties up to 10 times those of other drug offences. Those laws are still on the books today. Under Reagan, the US prison population soared from 500K to 2.5M and counting. His policies effectively doomed millions of his own citizens to poverty and addiction while stripping entire generations of their voting rights. When Geo HW Bush took office, he immediately shut down any further investigation into Reagan's crimes, thus granting him total immunity through bureaucratic channeling. The 'Law and Order' party only seem interested in these concepts when it applies to their adversaries...
