    Nice it's rare to see a modded stock can vs a pipe, everyone compares a pipe to a bone stock muffler which is easy to beat
    The steadfastforestry muffler is decent, if it's kinda cheap they'll sell as it's a simple bolt so you can keep your stock muffler and put it back on the saw when you sell it.
    I like the modded stock can the best for few reasons. It's the quietest other than stock, you can adjust how loud it will be when making it and it's the cheapest, the fact that it also makes about the same power as a custom pipe is a bonus.
    My beef with pipe mufflers like the egan one is even if they make good power they are just too loud to run on a saw im cutting fire wood with, the people working around me hate them.

    please do a 60cc stock saw shootout! even a just a stock husky 555, 562 and 562m2 shootout would be interesting if getting all the saws is too much of hassle.

    Liked the Steadfast muffler. Some of our firewood comes out of the National forests. Spark arrester is required there.

      I’ve tried the bark box and straight shot and I just can’t get on board lol it’s so insanely obnoxious. I’ve since modded all my stock mufflers with an Egan port.

    Love all the noise! I have a modded stock on my 572 ( also ported) have no idea what hp gain is but I can say it is one of the absolutely smoothest saws going. Great video, can’t imagine swapping all that stuff just for one vid!👍

    Great video, your muffler sounded best I thought. I would love to see some dyno runs with a stock 346xp or 372xp stock vs gasket delete and simple muffler mod on stock can, something we can all do at home for free.

    IMO your muffler sounds the best (stock modified muffler) and the power curve it has on the dyno looks like it would feel better than the other 2 (due to more torque lower in the range) with a 32” buried. Great work as usual Joe!

  • @kbittorf335
    @kbittorf335 Před 3 měsíci +2

    I have followed the links provided and concluded the modified stock muffler to be the best value in terms of cost/benefit ratio. Sure, the pipe sounds nice, but who am I trying to impress? Making seconds count could be of benefit for a fire department rescue roof saw, but most here have the choked stock factory mufflers on their saws. Great comparison video, enjoyed!👍

    I like having a screen option like the Steadfast. Sometimes I have to have one. Another topic - have you ever set up to measure chain performance with a dyno? There's so much guesswork and cookie cutting, it would be fun to do some actual torque/power it takes to make a chain cut. Finding wood to make a good comparison might be a challenge.

  • @jnljnl8485

    A cool dyno test would be fuel consumption test at cutting rpm. If you pick up speed in the cut but are constantly refilling did you really save time with an opened up muffler?

    Love the sound of the pipe when under load.
    I installed an Egan straight shot muffler on my 661. Absolutely love the change and sound. Even at idle!
    In the woods nobody cares about the sound. After hitting the kill switch at the end of a cut and pulling my muffs I can hear the sound off the hills like an air raid siren in the distance. Amazing.
    After a freak storm last summer I was busy helping friends cut big timber away from roads. If you have neighbors they are definitely going to hear you! Kind of like taking a .50 BMG to the range! 😀

    I think the last cut is faster because the autotune takes a long time to adapt, but I don't know in which order you did the test. my autotune seems slow, some 15sec cuts, with rpms as constant as possible. a lot of work for a test, I like all the rev limiters😂, ssf inox muffler best sound for me

  • @TsunauticusIV
    @TsunauticusIV Před 3 měsíci +5

    I know it would be a bit of work at first… but I have an idea. You could become super popular. So… make some test rigs that are Project Farm style. Have a test rig setup that will apply constant pressure on your wood cuts. Be a little more scientific with it. Do basically what project farm does but do it with saws. Show all kinds of scientific testing. Bud… you would become popular in a HURRY.

    • @spencerreimann946
      @spencerreimann946 Před 3 měsíci +2

      Problem is when running a saw constant pressure is not a reflection of performance due to the change in torque
      Hence why the dyno is a fairer way of proving improvement in performance

  • @jasonlamar2053
    @jasonlamar2053 Před 2 měsíci

    Steadfast mufflers sounds the best. But according to the dyno, I’d rather have your modded muffler for longer bars, and general storm cleanup. With the latter, you never know how often you may burry the saw and bog it down too much in varying conditions.

  • @edoardo6335
    @edoardo6335 Před 3 měsíci

    It might be interesting to test a modified spark plug with side gapping at the Dyno. It should give an increase on motorcycle engines at the expense of its durability, but on the power curve of a chainsaw I don't know how it would behave.

    Huh? I missed the muffler for the Husqvarna 572XP muffler on Egan's website. They mostly have mufflers for Stihl and a few Echo saws. Is one of the Stihl mufflers exhaust port compatible with the 572?

    Steadfast forester seemed the fastest but the Egan sounded the best. Is the stainless steel steadfast heavier? Also, I see the black Husqvarna in the background. Are you getting ready to do some R&D on the 500i killer?

    This is the one I've waited for. Do I buy a 572? So far I've decided no. The Stihl 462 seems better. But maybe the muffler will change my mind!

    Does that autotune get a workout every time you bolt on a different muffler? I guess in theory it should just roll with it right? How long does it take for it to find its new normal after a muffler swap?

    Im already deaf in one ear im going stock.😂 You should test an ebay pipe and silencer for a scooter on a saw. It would need some modification but would probly be a lot less work than your scratch built pipes.

      I cannot duplicate the factory testing process. No telling what situation that number came from, or even what type of dyno was used. That is why I do the before and after runs all on the same saw to show the difference.

    You remember my vote for leaving the muffler off entirely.
    If you insist on a muffler, the secret is to install air intakes as close to the exhaust port as possible. This minimises the pulsing in the muffler as the port opens and closes. So when the exhaust port is closed, air is drawn in the air intake and it allows exhaust gas to continue to flow out the exit.
