  • This is a detailed instruction on how to tension the handbrake on your Saab 9-5, all model years. As the handbrake shoes wear down you need to perform this adjustment to get them to work correctly. If your handbrake is weak, does not stop the car, or if you must pull the lever hard before the brakes engage, this is the first thing to try. The car shown in this video is Annas' 2006 Saab 9-5 Vector 2.0t Biopower Wagon.
    Note that if this adjustment fails you might need to get new handbrake shoes and a new wire. They don't last forever. Other names for the handbrake is the parking brake or e-brake.
    Swedish: Så här justerar och ställer man in handbromsen på Saab 9-5. Det är ett vanligt fel på besiktningen att man har en handbroms som tar dåligt. Man ställer in handbromsen vid backarna och vid vajern.

    Thanks for this. Pity it didn't drop into my inbox before. Spent Sunday changing discs and pads front and rear on my 1999 2.0t. I also changed my front drop links which were a nightmare to get off. I ended up having to cut the bolts off with an angle grinder. I hesitated a long time over a rear jacking point too. I don't have a tow hook but in the end I placed the jack at the same point as you and then put axle stands under the jacking points indicated by Saab. As for handbrake adjustment, I'll give it a try with your method as the hand brake is pretty feeble. Strange it wasn't picked up during the "contrôle technique" last month.
    Great car but I'm lusting after a red aero estate. One day perhaps...

    FYI , every how to person says to tighten the left rear is up . Either they don't know their left and rights. Up or downs. Easiest way to tell which way is tightening. Use a flash light and watch the star wheel you're spinning. If you can't see threads. It's all the way loose. Once you can see threads. You are tightening.

Is this easier with the rotor removed instead of going through the hole in the rotor?

    Hej, gillar starkt dina clips, har en egen 9-5. funderade gällande proceduren, borde man inte släppa bromsvajern att så mycket att krokarna bakom trumman är i bakposition. sedan justera beläggen att dom ligger nästan emot trumman. då ungefär vid tredje klicket låser dom sig enligt wis?

    • @TrionicSeven
      @TrionicSeven  Před 7 lety

      WIS säger att man vid behov kan släppa vajern om "vajern påverkar hävarmarna". Men det ska inte behövas så länge man justerar om en handbroms som installerats korrekt. Om man däremot monterar nya backar kan det dock vara behövligt eftersom skillnaden mot innan är så stor. Testa!

    I have a 2008 9-3, is it the same procedure for mine? I need to loosen mine tho because i cant drive it in snow due to the fact my rear tires lock up so its like tokyo drift but not willingly :’) Everytime i stop on dry asfalt i can release the footbrake and the car is dead locked in place so its stuck way too hard..

    Thanks for a good video but on my Saab 9-5 arc the adjustment screw on the right side goes up for tightening, not down, maybe earlier owner fixed the brakes and put it on the other way. When the screw gets longer then your screwing the right way.

    • @tonyfisk8081
      @tonyfisk8081 Před 2 lety

      If you can get a decent view through the hole, it's easy then to see which way to rotate the adjuster. Referring to the "Disc removed" picture from Platonoff shown in this video, if the adjuster is on the right of the barrel as you look at it, pushing it up will tighten the shoes, and (obviously) if the adjuster is on the left, pushing down tightens. That works regardless of which side of the car you are looking at or how the brakes were assembled. I can never remember which is which, so I always have to check!

    • @TrionicSeven
      @TrionicSeven  Před 7 lety +2

      Aldrig gjort det själv faktiskt! Men jag vet att man måste ha rätt verktyg för att sätta tillbaka fjädrarna, annars blir man galen. Bra tips är förstås att byta bakbromsarna samtidigt eftersom man ändå måste ta bort dem för handbromsbytet.

    • @to0btastic
      @to0btastic Před 7 lety

      Ja det var det som var tanken. Skall byta skivor samt belägg nästa vecka. Har även beställt hem nya handbromsbackar då jag måste spänna handbromsen in för var besiktning nu för tiden. Får se det som en ny utmaning helt enkelt.

    • @adamkingcha
      @adamkingcha Před 6 lety +1

      Till den som ska byta backarna: du behöver minst en smidig tång för fjädrarna. För att få låssprinten tillbaka genom brickan, tryck ihop fjädern med ståltråd eller smala buntband
