    Rolling a die for the missions and movement is a good way to make your turns less efficient since you don't have perfect information. Not as good as a true human opponent, I think, but a close second.

    First and foremost, thank you thank you thank you! I've played this game twice in as many years, the second time just two weekends ago. I got the bug again and now I want to play it all the time, so I hunted online and found the Solo Variant on BGG which then led me to you, this series, and this channel. So again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping this Star Wars fan play Star Wars board games again.
    Secondly, I love your own ingenious slight variations to Mr. Buonocore's brilliant variant. It makes more sense to me to roll D6 to see if the Empire will either move or do a mission, and then roll a D6 again (if moving) to see if they're going after Rebel units/system or a PRB. My question is this: at 5:58 how did you decide on using Soontir as the Leader for that movement? What are the Empire's preferences requirements, if any, in selecting which Leader to use? That's the only part I'm stuck on. Since in my current solo game I have 8 leaders in the pool (currently at the start of Round 6) I've been lining the leaders from left to right assigning them 1-8 and then roll two D6 until one of those 8 is selected. Mr. Buonocore doesn't go into the Empire's preference requirement on this selection, which I would rather refer to as opposed to a random selection. But when all else fails, I think random selection using one or two D6 when necessary is always the way to go. Curious about your thoughts on this.
    I'm really really enjoying watching your videos while I'm simultaneously playing my own Solo Variant for the first time. I've got quite a few videos and views on my own channel and it's always nice to see new people discovering videos, commenting and complimenting months and years later. This is my first time doing just that. So, again, thank you!
    Cheers and Be Well!

    The attacker does get to use the X results. You may remove damage applied during the combat round.
    The example in the rule book shows damage is applied simultaneously after both sides roll dice, at this point you can remove damage and save units. The damage doesn't have to be present before dice are rolled.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Před 6 lety

      Are you looking at the expansion rules? Here is what I found: A player may spend a die with a special icon ( 󲅑 ) as a combat action to remove one damage from one of his units. To track this, remove a damage token from the unit. The damage must be removed from a unit whose health matches the color of the die. Special icons cannot be spent to draw or play tactic cards.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Před 6 lety

      This makes me feel that the attacker can use the tactics dice to repair their untis, NOT to remove damage dealt AFTER the defenders rolls their dice, as they need to allocate their dice prior to the defender rolling their dice. I totally could be wrong but this is what I believe to be correct. Also the reference sheets on BGG seem to agree with this.

    • @JB-ym4up
      @JB-ym4up Před 6 lety

      One Stop Co-op Shop yes I'm looking at the expansion rules, there is a example where it's used to prevent damage inflicted that round. The example makes no distinction to which side or the order dice first, damage first. In the base game after both sides roll dice is when damage prevention is resolved, then damage is resolved and units removed. It seems odd given the way it's handled in the base game that the attacker wouldn't get the chance to prevent damage.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Před 6 lety

      The example I see is the: Since units are not destroyed until the end of the round of battle, a player may be able to save a unit from being destroyed by removing damage. Example: A unit that has 1 red health is dealt 1 damage. Later in the battle, a player spends 1 red 󲅑 to remove 1 damage from the unit and prevent its destruction. This specially talks about later in the battle you can remove one damage. Do you not agree or is there another example? I thought the expansion was trying to provide a small benefit to the defenders as they can repair ships before damage is done.

    • @JB-ym4up
      @JB-ym4up Před 6 lety

      One Stop Co-op Shop no I believe the combat order in the base game still holds step 4 block damage, step 5 destroy units. I don't think it was intended to change the balance of the game. My experience with this game the rebels already have a edge in winning and the imperials tend to be the attacker more often. By re-ordering the combat structure it gives the rebels a bit more of a edge. Also the example in the expansion is clearly blocking damage as it would destroy the unit if applied the repaired, and it's damage from the same round. I think repair was a poor choice of words on their part.

    With the falcon card I think you were only allowed the attach the ring to Han or chewie. Anyone correct me if I’m wrong. I’m new to this game.

  • @christianringlstetter6814

    I am pretty sure the attacker can heal damage which has been inflicted by the tactic cards, so they could have used their lightsabers in the first space battle round to heal the star destroyer...

  • @davidtysinger3781
    @davidtysinger3781 Před 2 lety +1

    I see that you added a wrinkle during the command phase for the imperials where you give them the option to move OR undertake a mission. I like the unpredictable feel of this. That said do you only do this when the number of leaders in the leader pool exceeds the available missions? In other words I have 2 leaders remaining for the empire and only 2 missions left so I would think it’s a lock they would be doing their missions now right ?
    Also is there a limit to how many leaders that can be present in a given system when attempting a mission? In other words what if there was already 2 imperial leaders could a third be sent ?

    Also, when I learend this (dont have the rulebook here right now) we played that the attacker can save his lightsabers to heal before the dmg takes effect, after the defender have rolled his dice?

    • @OneStopCoopShop

    Im late for discussions right? jaja. This "repair or remove damage" thing sounds very outplaced in battles to me , didnt like that right off the original rules.. . I prefer the term "evade" , its only a different naming convention, i know , but makes combat turns to feel more consistent and thematic, Now , considering that, when both sides fires each other at the same time ... Its more plausible that fleets or armys can evade enemy firing while doing their own atack or repelling it . .. And thats why i think that atackers should have this ability (evade) on theirs first round just like defenders do . This encourages Rebels to pick more fights too , and thats tematic, just remember every DeathStar atack run, or RogueOne final battle. Anyway , super cool videos ! Really liked how you put some vibe and tension to it!

  • @paulvr8851
    @paulvr8851 Před 6 lety +1

    I think you may have made a mistake at 11:20. I might be mistaken, but can't you only use the tactical result to heal a damage from a unit that has the same health color as the die? in that case you could only have saved one Y-wing ;)
    Also in the ground combat that follows, the empire could have healed 2 red damage from the atat because you should apply the effect of the cards immediatly after playing them. So in this case, even the attacker has a chance to heal some things.
    ps: love the series, it's super fun to watch! :)

  • @davidtysinger3781
    @davidtysinger3781 Před 2 lety +1

    Ok I have a question for how you handle combat where the empire is the defender . Do you prioritize healing their damage with the leader re-rolls? For example, one of their assault carriers had like 2 red damage following my attacks. Their leader was palpatine who has 3 re-Rolls. I think at the time it was like hits for their attack on the first roll. Do you just let that unit go out in a blaze of glory and use the hits on the rebels or do you re-roll for damage removal? In your example you played as the defender so I wasn’t sure

    So the cap for leaders you can recruit is 8 according to the rise of the empire expansion. Do you still draw an action card for the empire and take a new leader randomly deciding (die roll) who has to say goodbye from the recruited leaders? This seems like the easiest path to keeping the action cards coming for them including leaders

  • @davidtysinger3781
    @davidtysinger3781 Před 2 lety +1

    At around the 545 mark how did you decide to use soontir fel? I suppose if you knew it was going to be a battle you could use the leader with the highest tactics value but what about when you have multiple leaders available for going to a remote system. @Shenaldrac Před 6 lety +1

    Well, I've never played this game so take all this with a grain of salt.
    It seems like the right side of the board is going fairly badly for you; the Empire has a lot of forces there, ground troops and ships with which to move them. While I think you could easily take Geonosis with the ships from Ryloth, what concerns me is the Imperial forces right next to it at Utapau. Seems like if they get a move action, they could load up all but one TIE fighter into the Sta Destroyer and move them to Geonosis, and contest it and potentially take it back from you all while leaving a token Tie Fighter at Utapau to ensure the system is contested and you don't gain those sweet sweet production symbols. Again though, I don't know the game so maybe those two ships you have would still be a match for the star Destroyer and a handful of TIEs, and it is still worth moving to Geonosis, and if you do capture Geonosis whether through fending off an Imperial counterattack or the Imperials not going for it, the next turn you could move on to Naboo and try to wrest it from Imperial hands. Risky, but the potential payoff is great.
    As for more general thoughts, I think probably getting those space units away from Kashyyyk is a good idea. It gives you another place to deploy units and seems like it could work as a staging base from which to go after systems on the left side of the galaxy. Mandalore wouldn't take much to liberate from Imperial control, and Malastare is completely open, are are Nemoidia, Toydaria and Alderaan. The Empire *does* have plenty of forces on the left side of the galaxy, but it looks like most of them are ground troops, and they don't have much in the way of carrying capacity, at least from what I can see (again, I don't know the units so if the Death Star can carry a ton then Saleucami reinforcements are more threatening than I currently think), so opening up a new front from Kashyyyk and trying to take as many of those neutral worlds as possible seems like it would be something the Imperials would struggle to deal with with their limited ability to actually get their ground forces to where they need to be.
    Hope this gives you some decent food for thought! ^^
