Did he order dinner for himself knowing he'd be the only one left?
what do you think? ^^
Yes brother, cause he wasn't happy with Watson getting married (See 'A Game of Shadows').
He deliberately made the above situation awkward.

In Sherlock's defence, the lady insisted 🤣
I love how Watson’s so nervous watching Holmes doing his deduction
Because watson knows hows sherlock thinks he probably knew what conclusion sherlock would come up with about the missing ring 🤣
She had it coming. She asked for his deductions so Sherlock easily obliged to her request.
Classic case of "don't ask a question you might not like the answer to."
Except, Sherlock deserved it. Why? Because he deduced incorrectly on purpose. As soon as they left his food arrived because he knew he would piss her off in hopes to break marrys and watsons relationship
Ah women
He did that on purpose so he can enjoy dinner in peace
Thank u that's exactly what I said. She shouldn't have asked him If she Couldn't handle his Answer 🙌
The mistake Holmes makes at the very end is actually very similar to his mistake in "The Yellow Face". His cynical attitude towards women leads him to a rather erroneous conclusion both times. In "The Yellow Face", he assumes blackmail on a lady's part, when it's really a more innocent answer to the mystery. Her, he assumes Mary dumped her previous boyfriend...when the truth is he died.
Is "The Yellow Face" where Irene shows up or is that a different book. I assume your talking about the books.
@@sethmiles9436 Irene Adler's case is "A Scandal In Bohemia".
@@Hard_Boiled_Entertainment Ah okay.
Part of Holmes' character is that he doesn't really understands women. He underestimates them and thinks they only care about superflous things.
Watson should have whispered "NORBURY" ....in his ear....
Funny how most of you don't realize he is pissing her off on purpose. He even timed his order perfectly.
These people obviously haven't seen the movie. As such, their suiting facts to theories instead of theories to facts.
@JuniorXeastNY That doesn't change the fact that he was still intentionally and deliberately interfering in Watson's love life.
@JuniorXeastNY He's early, his guests never had a chance to order and as soon as they left, his dish is served. The only conclusion is he ordered before they got here knowing he would make them leave.
And he filled Mary's glass too
well, of course he is pissing her on purpose, even if you haven't seen the movie you'd know that by looking at this scene
His face after her "I intend to" comment! Lol
Holmes is just like "Bitch, not if I can help it".
Lmao ik right💀 I laugh everytime I see it
Both Mary and Holmes were asking for it in my opinion. Mary, because she was asking for a deduction about her in the first place, and Holmes, because he should have learned to shut up before he got too far.
That's kind of the thing. Holmes and Watson both know he'll go too far if asked, but Mary wants to show that she can handle Holmes and doesn't need to be treated with kid gloves. And to her credit, she bounces back after the first shock.
Holmes was holding back, but Mary insisted so he used 13.4% of his power
@@uneazypolarb7691 Yes but in the books he mentions on many occasions the danger of extrapolating too far with insuffiecient Data, he clearly got the correct conclusion(annuled engagement) but mistook the motive(death not gold digging). In a lot of cases he keeps Watson and others in the dark because he has hundreds of possible explainations and as data is acquired step by step and possibilities reduced until one remains.
He lacks sensitivity to social cues. That’s why he looked nervous and exchanged a look with Watson, because he knew he’d not know when was appropriate to stop.
You are forgetting that Holmes doesn’t want Watson to get married
I love that he doesn't wipe the wine away, almost as if he wants to savor the shame
I love how he doesn't even wipe the wine off his face, goes straight to eating.
i still laugh at how RDJ eats that piece of meat with a slightly amused facial expression as if nothing happened.
"You're a governess. Your student, its a boy of eight. And he's tall for his age. He flicked you with ink today. There are two drops on your ear in fact. India blue is nearly impossible to wash off. Anyway, very impetuous act of that boy, but you're too experienced to react rashly, which is why the lady for whom you work lent you that necklace.Pearls, diamonds, flawless rubies. Hardly the gems of a governess .However, the jewels you are not wearing, tell us rather more. You were engaged."

i think holmes went hard at it and got the husband part wrong intentionally, he'd been wanting to change watson's mind on the wedding. if i remember correctly he even paid a fortune teller to speak false about mary
I don't think he went wrong there, he personally wanted her to be a wrong woman for his friend, so his emotional surge at near victory rushed his judgement ,too eager to assess other alternatives.
The beginning, with him, alone, not being able to shut out the input coming from every corner, is actually one of the few times where we see that being Sherlock Holmes, most of the time, is not a boon but a burden. Ties in with Holmes preferring to stay in his flat when he is not on a case.
take watson..i intend too -holmes death stare-
Watson strongly insisted that Holmes meet Mary at dinner. Now he is regretting it.
In this scene, honestly you feel for three people. You feel for Holmes, who has the most unique personality and experience and a high-intellectual mindset, which can make him feel lonely at time, and his overconfidence and emotional intelligence can result as it. You feel for Mary, at first she was impressed by Holmes’ excellent logic, but then feelings hurt when Holmes made the assumption that she dumped her former husband, without knowing the fact that the former husband died, that also shows some lack of emotional intelligence - because by observing the emotions on her face, Holmes should’ve know when it’s proper to bring a stop to the conversation, but he failed to do so... Doctor Watson, on the other hand, he was completely aware of the potential consequences and results, he tried to stop Holmes and interferes to prevent the situation from getting worse, but there’s hardly medicine to stubbornness, in his case he feels for both Holmes and Mary and handles the situation from a third person perspective.
Holmes adore watson, he doesn't want mary to take watson.
Actually, I feel like Holmes deliberately wanted to keep her away from Watson
You just described what happens good for you
I think you missed a bit here, Holmes knew what was about to happen, that's why he had already ordered his food before they arrived..
The people complaining about how in-depth you went are doing so because they don't see the value in the little things. Or in stating the obvious. Ironic seeing as how we're on a Sherlock Holmes thread.
Watson knew the shit storm was coming, that’s why he started sippin’ 🤣🤣🤣
I always love when this scene comes up, RDJ is perfect as Holmes.
Sherlock : Take Watson..
Mary : I intend to. *smirk*
Sherlock : Ha! *bitch, i will cut you*
I loved Mary's character though XD
1:50 Watson knew exactly how it was going to end and...
Seriously, was Robert Downey instructed to react at Mary's "I intend too" or was it a brilliant improve? That moment at 1:06 was such a flash rabid jealousy!
He can predict every single move of his opponents and create an strategic respond of attack with precision..... This guy can deduce with a super human precision.... He has the Byakugan....
tru
Apparently, having a byakugan doesn't make you good at strategy at all. But it's the attention to detail that makes him great.
*sharingan
Got splashed with wine.
What is byakugan?
I love how reluctant Holmes and Watson initially are for him to do a scan on Mary, because they both know how intrusive he can get and his chances of drudging up something unpleasant are high.
'Right, so remember, as soon as the lady and her partner storm off you bring me my dinner...'
Damn, well tony forgot to add dectective to his list in the avengers movie
winnaaaaaaa Someone needs to make a fan fiction where Sherlock Holmes is Iron man .
One sherlock became the iron man, the other, Dr strange. And then they teamed up. How strange.
@@donsanjino Sherlock's life got so strange that he became Doctor Strange.
How happy was RDJ when he say to watson "The Lady insists" XD
Best line is .....'Take Watson'
"I intend to!"
Moral: don't test Sherlock Holmes
Watson's reaction at 2:38 😂😂😂😂😂
I feel slighty sorry for Holmes because he cant keep his mouth shut
Probably one of the many flaws with his intellect
At first, I couldn’t understand Mary’s rage and thought she was being rude and overreacting. Then I rewatched the movie a couple of times and I realized that Sherlock pissed her off and insulting her on purpose. If you listen closely, you can see that he’s implying, in front of Watson, that Mary is possibly some husband-hopping gold digger. And then Mary clarified and said her previous husband died.
Sherlock flat out said that Mary ditched her fiancé because his ring was too cheap. That would be a bad enough insult in our time, but in the Victorian era, a lady’s virtuous reputation was her greatest commodity. For a woman like Mary, with neither fortune nor male relatives to provide for her, her reputation is all she’s got. To imply she’s a golddigger, Holmes may as well have called her a prostitute. Since Watson is at this juncture basically broke with few if any patients and a small pension, she is hardly going to improve her financial picture that much by trading governess wages and room and board for marriage to Watson. Therefore she genuinely loves him. Kelly Reilly grew on me as Mary in the second movie but I always pictured Mary as a blonde. Also she wouldn’t throw wine on a gentleman no matter the provocation. I do like Mary’s feistiness but that is modern rather than true to Doyle.
What an incredible sense of humour and power of assuming things by just looking at one's face
I like the fact that Sherlock is not "obnoxious for the sake of it". He actually tells her (together with Watson) that is not a good idea. But people always think that Holmes just "guesses" and their secrets will not be uncovered by him. And they are always wrong. I think Holmes realized that most likely - he will be asked by Mary to use his deduction on her and she will be offended, hence he ordered his dinner beforehand
@austen4272 She was insulted by the way he assumed that she left her previous fiance because he wasn't rich enough. He had no way of knowing why they were no longer together.
Yes this was his mistake. Never assume a person's motive, jumping to conclusions.
Sherlock: Actively and politely tries to stop Mary from making him read her
Mary: No do it :)
Sherlock: Does it
Mary: >:(
Plus, in the second he does he will try to earn her trust (implicitly on the train before throwing her off).
It's like the waiters were just waiting for Holmes to mess it up.
They only brought HIS food to the table.
This is every nerdy high school boy's fantasy of dealing with the class beauty
One of the best scenes
Holmes: Take Watson
Mary: I intend to
Holmes: HA( I'm about to discombobulize her whole career)
This was just before I was born🎉😊
Lady insisted 💁♂️...it not his fault
This movie has to be an all time favorite!!! Love mr Holmes!!
0:59 Sherlock passive aggressive smile
You know, now that I think of it I remember James McAvoy saying something about us 'dumbing down' our films for American audiences.
ALl was serious until music at 3:45 😂
Intro to the bar fight I'm watching it now
"Hey you know that one topic that would totally set her off ? Yeah dont warn me about that or anything."
Typical woman, she insists you give her what she wants and then she gets pissed
Brits are usually praised for doing US accents,
This was such a wonderful and fresh switch.
Why is she getting upset, she asked him for an honest analysis of her
Nickolas Kupper he called her a gold digger
Because Wimminz
He made a offensive incorrect assumption
Because it's a game to her. People often do this with each other, whether it's by a street soothsayer's palm-reading, or simple "two truths and a lie." It's half-dare, half-game, and usually ends harmlessly enough. When someone attempts to play this sort of game with a person like Holmes, however, it ceases to be fun and becomes a violation of privacy provoked simply because they wanted to play games with a very dangerous ability.
In short, people are intrigued by the idea of "mind-reading," but tend to be horrified by the actual practice, even if it's only accomplished by extreme deductive reasoning and attention to detail.
@@KoiYakultGreenTea Well it can be incorrect, that's why it's called assumption in the first place.
As far as i am concerned, we are enemies.Untill or unless i or you are alive that line of enemity would live.
he didnt even clean up his face, he just owns it
Since the scene is a fake, they took their liberties. In Arthur Conan Doyle's Sign of Four, Holmes and Watson meet Mary Morstan. Only after the case is solved does Watson propose to her.
They took the characters yes, but the story is their own. This movie has nothing to do with the sign of the four.
Lol I thought it was great after she said "I intend to" they way Sherlock's smile fell and then became incredibly forced; so funny!
What a Great service
Watson warned her but she insisted.
And she throws her drink at Holmes?
Holmes should have retaliated.
He’s not the type to rashly retaliate to wine being tossed in his face. This has likely happened to him more than once.
@@InfernoBlade64 nah. Watson and Holmes both said it was a bad idea, but she thought she could handle it.
Yes, he chose the worst assumption about her. He already expressed that he disliked Watson marrying her. But that doesn't change the fact that she literally dared him to use the one ability that has made him infamous among many circles. Mary is not being very clever here, and though he admittedly did not show much kindness or consideration for what must surely be a sensitive topic (probably on purpose), she has only herself to blame for daring an eccentric genius like this.
@@OneBiasedOpinion no, being a genius does not excuse what he did. he was cruel-on purpose.
Watson's face @ 1:40 😂
that moment when you eat perfectly like nothings happened @3:35
you see how he ordered food for only one person before hand coz he knew he is going to be alone at the end
Sherlock rocks. Nothing to worry
''The lady insist''...
On another note, Robert Downey Jr. has done an admirable job of mastering the accent. eeeee
He is to much of a gentleman to do so..and he knew she would
Some are filled with accommodations toward Americans either by design or because of American writers. It can only be a mistake and many Americans don't want it. The French have a protectionist attitude toward their cinema and TV and I think we should be doing the same. I already notice the Americanisation of date references on British TV especially on youth programmes from eg "The 3rd of June 2000 and 12", to "June 3rd 2000 12", and ass instead of arse. We need to keep the British arse.
1:03 Oh damm Sherlock found his new mortal enemy. lol
Reaction of the truth... Always like that...
Many people hate going to restaurants for this reason. Too many people.
Holmes: My Suit is drenched in wine, but I must be careful if the steak ruins it.
Could you please tell me what is the name of this soundtrack scene.?
Thank you.
@falconwind00 From the color, I would assume a steak, probably sirloin, but the size is huge, so it might be other kind of steak. Nevertheless, it is a type of beef.
Ahh dang it, that wine stain’s gonna be hard to wash off....
I like RDJ's movies very much
He tried to not do it. But couldn't help himself.
Beth Dutton meets Mary
Imagine that conversation
get your a women who says "I intend to.." when somone says " take (name of the person) for example". Man that guy would be lucky to have such a women as his wife
After Mary and Watson leave, Sherlock ponders then immediately begins to act as though nothing has happened once the waiters arrive with his meal. What does this say about Holmes character? Is he still feeling remorse for the insult or has he gotten over it?
In Holmes' defense he was trying to hold on to his husband.
She throws her drink in his face and later on he throws her into the drink. All to get her out of harm's way, of course.
To him, it was just a simple observation at his humble honesty.
No it wasn't. Watch the movie.
First Video a saw with so many views and no dislikes.
@GreenBeangood He basically called her a golddigger.
Rdj’s sherlock is better than benedict cumbercrunch’s interpretation .
What’s that music playing in the background?
Sherlock was asked to scan her, yes, but there's a point where discretion should have told him to not press the matter past the embarrassing thing about the necklace. Look at his face, he kept deducing and he couldn't shut it off.
Hey,
What was Holmes doing with his watch in the beginning of the video? Time his meditation?
Thanks
I know this comes 7 years late, but I might as well explain since I'm here. :)
To put it very crudely, Holmes has the dual blessing and curse of an extremely unique and acute form of ADHD, coupled with an incredibly intelligent mind that can use logic in ways that most people can't even hope to copy.
The more detailed explanation is that his mind notices literally everything around him at an acute level of detail. Sight, sound, touch, smell, taste, he absorbs and processes _all_ of it simultaneously and with a precision that very few humans are ever capable of. His mind is then able to use all of this information to deduce incredible amounts of information about anything or anyone around him. The problem with this is that when his mind doesn't have something engaging enough for him to focus on (like a case!), it will start trying to do this analysis with _everything._ He can't "shut off" the extreme attention to detail; it's always there. And with no focus his mind will try to deduce _all of it._ So very quickly he becomes overwhelmed with data that his brain stubbornly tries to process nonstop, which I would assume probably drives him into a state of mania if he can't get it under control.
So the opening scene with the watch appears to be showing him using its ticking sounds as a means of focusing through all the chaos, noise, and information which his brain is constantly trying to process. It _is_ a form of meditation, but it's designed to "ground" him so he can actually stay in the room and not succumb to increasing mania and anxiety from the sensory overload he's suffering.
This is also why he doesn't enjoy going out when he isn't on a case. With no set goal to preoccupy his mind, it will try to analyze all of this data around him, which is enough to drive anyone mad. And for someone of his vast intelligence, it is very hard to find anything worthy of focusing on for any amount of time.
This was the moment Mary became Beth Dutton
The LADY INSISTS
For surely Holmes want him.
Oh, that is clever. He first says, "You're a governor's" knowing that that's not true; so that he can test whether she's a liar or not. Then he continues to explain why the gems are not a governor's just to catch her off guard. And prove she's a liar.
Doesn't completely succeed though, but that is clever.
1:04 his face please 💀
@xxchibirockstarxx In fact she insisted.
A true friend would have talked Mary down than ordered a bottle of champagne.
He uses the ticking of his watch as a stimming tool?
Elementary my dear Watson
It was more like a smile but yes, I fully ship them!
@xxchibirockstarxx actually the lady insisted.
He saved the universe, but destroyed a dinner, cant be a hero everywhere i guess
