The crack in Irene's voice at 1:20 is just so perfect. She realises he's too close and she's scared but doing her best to not show it. Always notice something new when I come back to this stellar show. It's why I'm still here, still hoping, even at the very end of 2021. This will always, always be my favourite show.
Sheer acting genius
This is the most brilliant episode in my eyes. Unfortunately season 4 really lacked the quality we see in the early ones.
@@fannyfunke9983 True, and fair enough. I think once they'd wrapped up Moriarty's whole arc they just wanted to keep power scaling, not realising that post that the show could've just been about John and Sherlock being a great duo and solving cases with a modern twist. There's so many stellar cases that were never touched upon and we could've had so much more.

Proof that Sherlock is both a genius and actually quite an emotional man, he only does it because she hurt him and played him as a game.
Exactly. I’m sure Sherlock wants her to think he really is that cold unfeeling robot everyone thinks he is, but you can tell he was trying to hurt her here. The way he slowly heavily types each letter, as if plunging a dagger into her heart over and over again. All the while never breaking eye contact. He may as well be screaming at her.
Yup Grey Beard changed him.

This is Sherlock's way of breaking up with a woman who's not really his girlfriend. Classy.
On the contrary. This is him flirting. Courting even. Think through the series, and ask yourself. Who does he hurt the most? The people he loves, and nothing hurts Irene more than begging.
@Penny for my thot which is kinda Aarons point. these two are some of his only friends... if not the only friends. There's very few people he loves more than those two
This is a cringey scene between an asshole and a cringey woman.
I tried this once. It would have been worked out brilliantly if I was right.

Sherlock had not much of a clue until she said James Moriarty sends his 'LOVE.' Everything fell in place in Sherlock's head when she said that word. You can literally see the pieces of the puzzle falling in place inside Sherlock's head right at that moment. Cinematorgraphy and script writing is such an important and beautiful thing. Very well done.
I'd not noticed that, but you're right! Very cool bit of camera work.
No, u are wrong. When She said all of it was from Jim Moriarty, he had understood. Because he got she was not smart and couldn't make genius password, he had understood she is just ordinary woman who couldn't even make smart password and who couldn't make this plan up. He probably wasn't getting the situation, since it was an emotional exchange
Ahahha
"that's my bro"
Da ice man
If you watch closely, when she says “ the ice man, and the virgin” Sherlock starts to figure out her password, it’s not till she finishes and says “ now that’s my kind of man”, he realizes that she’s taunting him more than she’s needs to, why go over and over about him, it’s because she actually loves him, she’s trying to convince herself he’s not worth it and that she’s making the right choice, Sherlock then understands and remembers all the signs she accidentally showed him before, he just remembered it all. I love the writing and the story of Sherlock
That doesn't work. She was an arrogant woman and constantly taunted and made fun of everyone.
@@tiaaaron3278 Agree! I don't like her so much.
Or may be ....it was written in his script.....
Not exactly. When she says "Jim Moriarty sends his LOVE". It triggers him and suddenly remembers about her love for him. Then he realizes it has something to do with the password.
Yes, he knew that when she had to emphasize something too much, she was just trying to fool him. He used this technique again when Mycroft was insulting Watson in 403. He was very good at figuring out when something was emphasized too much to be the opposite side's true intention.
For supposedly being a dominatrix, Irene looks truly submissive at 2:05 as Sherlock walks away with her phone and she automatically follows him like a puppy follows his master. And That helpless and desperate look on her face hoping that he doesn't crush her as he's about to do is PRICELESS.

@Aakash Pahwa . Sure "Yes. Twice " would have been a very witty come back, in the image of the boomerang case they solved together.... But also, it would have been a bit cruel and... inelegant. Irene Adler: I am very smart. Smart woman. Smart smart woman.
Sherlock: Your phone password is literally a pun on my name.
Elmo9001 😂😂😂😂
Which is why the original story is better. She was smart, genuinely so, but even more than that she didn't have to put the effort into BEING smart - the men all assumed they knew more than she did, and she got away with it in the end simply because their egos were too big. Which is a bit of schooling that any iteration of Sherlock could stand to have, really. The only person to ever outsmart Sherlock, and that was the whole reason he liked her. The original Adler would have laughed at this one. And this one is a bit of an insult, to be honest.
@@sleepingdogpro Agreed. Furthermore, Original Adler skipped town precisely because she thought squaring off against Sherlock Holmes was too great a risk for too poor a gain. She would have had choice words for this version.
@@scientia.veritas This is true. Pity Doyle didn't think to do much more with her. Although Original Adler was just a woman attempting to duck the advances of a suitor who was well above her station and whose suit, without leverage, she would have had little ability to deny. I love how Sherlock is so ace and it actually works to his advantage… like, here Irene thought he was holding her hand because he had sexual feelings for her, but in reality he was just checking to see if her pulse quickened. Just playing the game, leading her on, making sure he had the advantage. Still thinking clearly, but letting her think his judgment was clouded by sentiment. Brilliant!

You fools! Sherlock was never angry in this scene. When Irene said "Moriarty sends his love", the revelation was brought by the word "love". He didn't decide to break the password because he got angry at the mention of Moriarty, he just cracked the case at the last moment. Afterwards he baited Mycroft to let her go - "If you are feeling kind, lock her up." He knew Mycroft was not feeling kind. Sherlock was expecting Irene to beg, but hearing her do so didn't change his course of action. He was already helping her, playing the game against Mycroft, pretending not to care.
@Moxley You're spot on, when she says 'Now that's my kind of man' she says it with the sass of a rejected woman. Isn't it always??
"Because I took your pulse" That quote can melt all the ice in the world. BC is pure fire in this scene I love him!!
Caryl
Did you know that wasn’t even in the script... Benedict just did it and everyone went along with it and that’s why he’s the best actor ever
Izabella 016 that's not true lol
Darius Kianersi his voice when he leans in and tells her “I took your pulse”...that whispery growl....sent shivers up my spine and down into the pit of my stomach and below....
Who Benjamin Cucumber
This is the scene i was SHER LOCKED too
This scene is pretty close to being perfect. The atmosphere, music, acting... Everything is somehow amazing.
The way she says “poor man” always break my heart. Idk why. It’s like she already feels the terror of what’s is coming for her.
She betrays her own feelings. Great acting.❤️
Yes it's nicely done.
Exactly . 👌
Also, I love how Mycroft was literally just standing there lol.
Mycroft be like 😲
If mycroft knew her better he’d crack the code too.
He’s smarter than Sherlock
@@jimmy2k4o yes, but he is also lazy and doesn't want to do things for himself when he can just get someone else to do it.
"Sorry about dinner" takes it back from the brink of perfection. Rubbing salt in the wound. The punishment was complete before that.
- Are you expecting me to beg?
- Yes... *TWICE
The man who brought a domanatrix to her knees
The domanatrix*
Fun fact:Actually "because I took your pulse " wasn't in the script... Benedict Cumberbatch came up with that. Spot on
are you sure? because without it, the script would be pretty damn stupid
@@eduardrafael643 yes..Steven Moffat himself said it. Benedict Cumberbatch thought they would cut it out
Sherlock taking her pulse at his home was in the scene before this scene. So it doesn't make sense that he came up with it
@@paul-tx9jn Nono...it was taken in Sherlock's home, before when Irene was talking in an enticing way to Sherlock, and they both hold hands and come closer..when Hudson calls they both seperate suddenly
Rishi Giridharan yes and wheb he says it aswell
I love the Scandal in Bohemia, it was sensational, like the coming of age chapter for Sherlock Holmes. He was defeated and took it in the most grateful way. He went through a roller coaster of emotions, and Irene Adler was remembered as "The Woman" who was so underestimated by Sherlock, but outplayed him on his very stage.
This episode is nice, but I just can't get over the part that they demonized Irene, she was never the villain, was never a sex worker, and never did anything to harm anyone. And the most important, she outsmarted the Great Detective by her own wit, not with help from some criminal that lost to Sherlock Holmes.
I just re-read scandal in Bohemia and you’re 100% correct. They did Irene dirty
She is made a dumb [evident by her passwords] sex worker [evident by the numerous relationships] that needs some outside assistance [evident by Moriarty] here.
this one is entirely different tho? it wasn't based on that chapter or anything, just some referencing here and there.
I just wanted to say this.. Irene in my view was top notch character in the entire book.. and they did her dirty.. and she defeated Holmes in a graceful way.
"Tumblr horny" is how I would describe the fandom of this show. I still thoroughly enjoy it myself, but good lord the fandom went bananas reading into things.
Am I the only one who literally knows every single word of this scene? Gosh, I love it so much
Everything about this episode is memorable, brilliant. Same here.
Insert Sherlock's legendary "Eeeeeh... Nope" here. 😉
Nope
From the first time's :"Oh god he is speaking do fast I can't catch up" to...knowing the next linr
I can remember them all too
2:30 eye of a true lover
“… Because I took your pulse” ❤ my good…
His whispery voice when he said that to Irene….made me grave chills!
I think the irony of this was how Mycroft said “the dominatrix who brought a nation to its knees” but Sherlock brought the dominatrix to her knees
Sherlock (✷‿✷)
and begging :3
So does that mean Sherlock brought down the nation to its knees😂
