No mention of the Fastball? Krieg is one of the best Fastballers in the game, they're great for Blood Bath proc and Bloodsplosion chaining, and BB's increased drop chance for grenades makes it basically impossible to run out.

The one thing with "silence the voices", the dmg isnt "that" bad. Like, 1/3rd of my health. What fucks me up is the 2-3 sec stunstate. Locked in the animation, and teh foggy-blurry screen.
texteel On OP8 with no health stacking, it does about half your health, but with health stacking it pretty much tickles
so that 2 sec "stun" becomes proportionally more dangerous than the self dmg itself

why? Does the rough rider prevent the enemies from doing more damage to you during the time you are locked in the animation (+the blurry aftereffect) than the amount of damage you deal to yourself?
Damage Resistance and high HP pretty much makes that meh. Yeah you hit yourself in the face sometimes, but it's actually not that bad, and I rarely get screwed over by it.
Wish Gearbox didn't kill his Raving Retribution dialog. All the crazy stuff he used to say was funny.

@@HexxuSz Oh the CP saved it? I didn't play a lot of Hellborn Krieg but I did play some of it so you know, but they did learn from it in the pre-sequel since you have the choice to spend a point in inspire on Jack or you don't have to.

The reason I can't stand Silence the Voices isn't that it damages you, it's the infuriatingly slow animation that comes with it.

Throwing axes don't proc Silence the Voices self-damage. In Combination with Fuel the Blood and Buzz Axe Bombardier, throwing axes become your main source of damage, all the way up to and through OP8
Yeah, that and the visual effect makes me so disoriented. I know that’s the point but damn it’s annoying

I was in the same situation
One thing that wouldve been nice to note is that Bloodsplosion is boosted by grenade damage
And thus Fuel the Blood not only makes Blood Axe Bombardier fantastic, it also makes Bloodsplosion crazy
You can often just melee an enemy to death and clear a whole group with that boosted Bloodsplosion even without much careful planning
I think I said at one point its grenade damage but you're right I didn't specifically say it gets boosted by that.

For bloodsplosion all I could think of was a particular scene in kingsman: the secret service
Kreig is my absolute favorite character to play in any borderlands game. He's just so hectic and manic, you really feel like a psycho playing him. I still smile whenever I get a good boodsplosion chain or get his RoF and mag bonuses up all the way. It's just the most fun I've ever had in a borderlands game, maybe even in any rpg
A few things I would add:
Krieg is heavier. Grenade jumps don't work that well
Corrosive Omen & the Blockhead: Both sometimes proc "Bloodbath", do good damage and are friendly to your ammo. Just don't reload, that hurts :D
The Carnage and the KerBlaster: often overlooked. The Rockets may not get grenade damage bonuses but they ALWAYS count as a Grenade-kill on kill. You get the idea
The Pimpernel: I know it's maybe a little too obvious because it works on any character but it just puts out such an enormous shitload of DOTs that it's often a better healer than Moxxi-guns (with "Elemental Empathy") and is capable of DOT-kills.

Found this helpful on my Krieg build. I have to admit what I enjoy about Krieg is the idea of running around setting myself on fire.
Slight correction in 17:34: +200% means times 3 (x + 200%*x)
You also forgot betties/biddies for grenades for people who like RtB chains.
Excellent video. I like the fireballs from Raving Retribution because it *points out* where enemies are! There are a lot of maps with small enemies that blend in the background where I have problems actually seeing them when they are not shooting at me!

Ahhhh, this sweet explosive fastball and bloodsplosion. When I first played the Explosive + Fastball + Bloodsplosion Krieg it was so fucking amazing. :-)

you just have to remember he is a Psycho and does not play like the other character's
I still can't decide who I like more between Brick and Krieg, it's kust really fun punching nearly every boss in the game at the same time it's just really fun playing as a Badass Psycho
I just picked up playing Krieg recently, so I'm here for this. Call me insane, I'm not interested in BL3 at all for now. I'll get the handsome jack version equivalent in a year, who gives a shit. So thankful for YT channels like yours that break it down without the bullshit.

Bl3 kinda sucks compared to bl2. Have more fun with bl2 overall and I still need to defeat raid bosses for my first time.
Great video . I play maya and sal the most, And I know everything about all the characters (considering I have 40 days on sal and another 15 days all together on my other characters) but I generally loved the video.
I love all of you're videos and I can recommend them to everyone.
You're one of the few good quality borderlands youtubers left (besides Joltz, K6, etc) you all still make consistent uploads on borderlands.
Keep up the good work and don't stop making videos.
Of course Krieg would love a gun called the Butcher.
Few things I want to correct.
4:20 - The 'empty magazine' on the skill doesn't really matter. Generally you want to use a Rough Rider with melee Krieg which is always depleted. It's basically just a 100% passive melee increase while using the Rough Rider.
29:50 - Spunky never put points into Blood Overdrive for very good reasons.
34:27 - Krieg's axe may be seen as a 'Bandit Pistal' but it doesn't receive damage increases from weapon skills. The thrown buzz axe is pure melee damage without any skill points invested in Buzz Axe Bombardier. With Buzz Axe Bombardier, however, it changes the melee damage to non-elemental and explosive damage bonuses. (but still gets buff from melee damage skills)
40:45 - Sorry, but the Grog is absolutely required on melee Krieg in certain situations. Most of the time I don't use it but I really have no choice when I go against 2 Ultimate Badass Loaders and 1 Badass Constructor. (Even Thrill of the Kill wouldn't keep me alive there)
41:44 - Bloodsplosion is not grenade damage. Blood Bath triggers when killing an enemy with a grenade OR *explosion* (a.k.a Bloodsplosion).
47:33 - Bladed weapons only do less damage when NOT using Roid and/or past level 47.

You do not need the grog until OP levels. Hell even then tho you only need it for the peak.
The twister is my favorite gun on anyone even though it's a pain to get.

Admiral Bahroo used Bloody Revival once in Co-Op one life, in an attempt to get heavy damage off of Voracidous before his shield restored. He went down intentionally, used the kitten at point-blank until near-death, then was revived by Maya. It did decent damage, but it didn't do enough to kill him along with all their other efforts. They gave up on Krieg for one life not long after that and switched to Sal.
actually his Krieg had died when he used the Baby Maker and unintentionally hit himself when he was down forcing him to quit
1. Pain is Power at 5/5 adds 25% damage normally and an additional 50% for 75% when on fire. The figures double at 10/5.2. The thrown Buzz Axe counts as a grenade which procs Bloodbath, which isn't very useful in BXR, but hey, free grenades! With Buzz Axe Bombardier you get bonuses from Strip the Flesh and Fuel the Blood though which allows it to outstrip your melee damage.3. Elemental Elation also increases your buzz axe's fire rate. Not really important but worth pointing out. To my knowledge, Embrace the Pain doesn't.. Com/Relic fire rate boosts like the Chaotic Barbarian or Gunner also increase its fire rate.4. After the patch Flame Flare is harmless unless you take a fire dot from an enemy (like a Hot Loader). Your own DOTs don't do much unless you are at super low health. It's a very good skill especially with explosive hybrids where you DoT people less.5. Raving Retribution Is powerful enough to quite easily kill unshielded enemies. Not sure if that's because it got buffed but it does good work in flesh maps. It's basically necessary to run Krieg without a Firehawk or Moxxi, so while it isn't spectacular like RTB or Bloodsplosion its strong in its practicality, like Scorn or Double-up. Also, it procs Bloodbath, which can be useful.
Gonna affirm that Krieg and Moxxi are an overrated combo. His healing/survivability skills are probably the best in the game so you probably won't see a serious performance difference if you spec/play him intelligently.
1 - It's a weird skill in which in will make your body shots higher damage than your crits for any weapon with splash if you are on fire. For non-splash, body shots will get an increase in damage whereas crits will remain the same damage. Great skill for splash-only guns but the other characteristics make me a huge hater of it (also the fact that I played sniper Krieg throughout first and second playthroughs and would have loved to use that in a theoretical Krieg Volcano build)
2 - The explosion counts as grenade damage if you pick that. Standard thrown axe doesn't IIRC
3 - I think they all increase thrown axe fire rate, but not swinging speed?
4 - Pretty much correct. Krieg's own immolation is very mild and you cannot stack multiple DoT's from Flame Flare any more
5 - yes
Final Thought: I find that to be very true normally. Elemental Empathy in particular is pretty ridiculous. Hellfire is a great gun on him. But as you climb OP levels (I think I'm at 6 now) even he struggles with survivability
***** 1. Yeah, leveling I avoided it initially as until UVHM you really cannot afford to be too choosy about guns. I think its a good skill overall, and has strong synergy with most guns Krieg excels in.
2. You are right, did a test and only buzz ax bombardier procs bloodbath.
3. Relics, coms and Elemental Elation increase throw speed, Embrace the Pain does not seem to cause a discernible increase in throw rate.
You know what would be much better to have in Krieg's skill tree then bloody revival?
A movement speed skill ..
Perhaps + 1.5% per stack of blood lust equaling up to + 120% speed
Fuel the rampage is amazing once you have so many BAR stats that you never really get down to 30% health

I was thinking of using him. Maya is my favorite character who I have at lvl 60 right now with a sham I got from bunker. Plus I have a really nice cooldown rate which I can get better when I max out. This character does seem really badass though. I like the crazy things he says and how in his head he still has a rational person in there.
this isn't very important but krieg can reload the infinity when he gains blood stacks because of the ammo skill

Actually Bloody Revival is very incredible with the Kerblaster, due to the synergy with
Pain Is Power, Strip The Flesh and Bloodbath in a grenade hybrid build, I think the Kerblaster is the best AR that Kreig can rely on

Doesn't Fuel the Fire triple your DoT chance, rather than double it?
If you had a +100% increase to a gun with 10% DoT chance, you get 20% DoT chance. That's double the DoT chance. So +200% cannot be double.

I played with krieg to try him out...love the character like tiny Tina, but he plays pretty...I think zero as a melee character just feels better. At times when I use his skills I feel like I'm not hitting the guy even tho I'm right next to them or my thrown buzzaxe just wiffs for no reason.
+derch for release the beast if you do that animation at the beginning then rtb worked also if you have the caution sign right next to your name that is 33% health.
My suicide Krieg has had a lot of luck with Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

But the passive bonus doesn't apply on roid damage while bladed weapons multiplicatively boost it

Due to his unique melee calculation, bladed weapons actually *reduce* his damage after around level 40.
@@nemohimself2580 Unless it's the Rapier/Law. The Rapier is always a boost to melee damage, no matter the level. And as the original comment said, all bladed weapons are better if you use a roid shield.

Not quite true. Obviously, the Law and Rapier always boost your damage, but other bladed weapons can boost your damage contextually.
Above lvl 40, without a roid shield, bladed weapons reduce your damage, but with a roid shield, bladed weapons always boost your damage.
Slag bouncing betty and tesla type grenades are the best mods for quickly stacking Bloodlust
Light the Fuse scales decently well until OP levels. It actually gets a 600% damage boost in UVHM, so if you get slag before going down, you can actually do decently well with it until level 72/80.

Krieg fundamentally has 2 builds, and the difference is whether or not you use his action skill.
The hellfire pops off of kreig
if they wanted to make Kreig really op they would have made release the beast 100% multiplicative melee damage.
That or weapon effects apply in Buzz rampage
I mean he doesn't even need slag at op10 as melee Krieg. I've seen players murder everything with melee and no slag.
I'd like to see which characters you think work best in combinations. So Axton+Krieg or Maya+Zero etc. It's an interesting puzzle to match up skills. Krieg needs help getting slag out there so Maya would be a good fit but then maybe Maya would miss her kill skills if Krieg is bloodsploding everything.
It's pretty much maya + anyone. Her slag, healing, cc, no one can compete with that.
If you're not running RtB, Krieg+Maya. If you are, most of her healing is actually counter-productive.
Thank you for your vids they've help a lot. I have just got to tvhm with kreig. I pick up a cobra on normal mode the highway to hell mission , which I think was very lucky. In my opinion the cobra is the dogs bollox with kreig with his explosion buffs. Thanks again for your time with your vids.
If the Legendary Reaper com boosted Fuel the Blood instead of Taste of Blood, you could have a stupidly awesome grenade/explosive weapon/melee build. Slag and accrue bloodlust stacks with the Florentine, kill an enemy with the Fastball, swap to a Harold/Ravager/Swordsplosion/Kerblaster/Ogre, swap to the Rapier, causing tons of overkill damage and creating massive bloodsplosion chains.
i never used the flakker, i tried it on krieg and for grenade stacks it works pretty well as an off hand. plus its actually kind of fun to use

I find that with silence the voices since krieg gets so many huge meelee buffs the actual percentage of that skill of his overall meelee damage isnt really worth it especially considering it basically makes roid shileds not usable
You have to consider that the animation when he hits himself also costs valuable time, time in which you are not damaging enemies so all theese factors considered silence the voices really doenst increase your damage enough to make it worth the annoyance of it and sometimes the danger where it just chains on you in a bad situation
Roid damage doesn't increase the damage of self hits caused by StV.
Melee krieg is super fun after playing maya it's a way more crazy in your face play style. does silence the voices trigger salt the wound when you hit yourself?
Fuel the Rampage is piontless even when you somehow "miss" RTB because the damege-cooldown is based on your base health. So if you're health-stacking and have at least almost full health at the end of your Rampage you get it back before beeing back in RTB-range

Definitely true about the Grog, I don't use it with Krieg. I prefer the Kitten or the Hail for that matter. Also the Tattler does great with Hellborn Krieg. Damn, dude the fire rate of that thing with Embrace the Pain and Elemental Elation! I had shot really fast but I had not seen anything like it :o
Oh hey and I think you forgot the Carnage. The carnage is actually good with Krieg as it seems not to be with any other character because it procs bloodbath by itself so it quickly becomes quite effective.

You're wrong about kreig not benefiting from bayenet weapons. It is true that he gets a bonus to melee with his buzzsaw axe however if you are using a roid shield then the bonuse he gets is eclipsed by a bayenet weapon because his bonus doesn't effect roid shield damage. This is also true of the buzzsaw rampage plus 500% melee damage it doesn't affect roid damage just base melee. So if using a roid shield your better off using a melee weapon if not well yeah go without one for kreigs bonus.
I never had an issues running grounded hide of terra as krieg, one shot even badasses, also stv did happen a couple of times but I never downed myself from stv, since I alternate melee and thrown axe. Also roid shields actually make bladed weapons useful to, so if you do use bladed weapons that are not law/rapier run roid as well.

Without Pimpernel, Sandhawk, Hail, Kitten, Norfleet etc.
My main gear was:
Legendary Siren/Legendary Binder (for Reaper bonus etc. on mini bosses)
All Bone of the ancients (only using shock and corrosive all lvl 70 to 72)
Bee most of the run and Antagonist for the Assassins
Lyuda corrosive/shock (god, I love this Sniper sooooo much)
DPUH for sure
Hornet (so damn great!!!second main weapon for OMGWTF)
Florentine
Lead Storm corrosive (for Dukino's mom and OMGWTF)
and of course... Grog Nozzle just for more survivability
Also Longbow Quasar lvl72 and up to OP5 a purple shock Singularity (for more crowd control)

All this gear now has a place in my heart ;-)
But now I will go for my Pimps and and Sandhawks.
I was running Derch's Twisted Pimp - Build (even if I had neither a Pimp nor a Twister X-D) But it was great I fucking love that build. Scorn is sooo good.

Tom Tlrech funny that he says that because snipers are just good in general. I mainly play Krieg, and while he is definitely the worst at it, he still does good sniping. Snipers are just good
@@carrier2823 He is good at sniping with bloodbath with something like the Pimpernel for the 550% damage 11/5 blood bath and with the reload and magazine size with fire rate just melts everything

You forgot about the top 1 weapon for Krieg: the explosive fastball
That's only good for a glass cannon build imo, I rather have grenades with more utility
Step 1 : Hold moxxi weapon
Step 2 : Throw fastball
Step 3 : Unkillable
You deserve more. But I'm pretty sure you do need more work with the thought and the pausing. But I'm pretty sure you're working on that and I'm not hating or anything but you're doing pretty great for a unpopular CZcamsr. Honestly you deserve to have like 50k to 75k subs. But keep it up.
who would win in a fight, kreig or brick?
how do the "additional _____ bonus" skills work? for example, on empty the rage, if your spec'd 5/5 in it and your shield is down, do you get 70% (20% base + 50% shield depleted bonus) more melee damage or 50% (20% base is substituted to become 50% when your shield is depleted)? same question with pain is power and burn, baby, burn: is it 105% when on fire or 75%?
the bonuses stack, you add the bonus from your shield down to your base
Andrew Jones if it has a plus next to it it is added, but if there is not a plus it is not added.
So it would be 70 for your example.
I find the Grog an essential when doing the Peak in OP8
I just use any Moxxi weapon in the peak. I find the Kitten and Hail are great in the peak
Best to *either* run Moxxi weapons and hellborn/bloodlust *or* RtB Krieg. Moxxi weapons mess with RtB timing imo.
To resume that hour of video in a sentence : with Krieg, the more you go aham, the more damages you have. That's it x)
I like my build I made for him I based my build around the fastball and it rekts mobs

Yes! Getting an on level/element fastball and a slagga. slag, fastball, then either bloodsplosion kills everything or I have insane gun damage on everything else to kill stuff.

Is the melee bonus from Silence the Voices the same type of melee damage as the melee damage from BAR? I used profile editor to add +600% melee damage and not use StV. StV isn't challenging, it's just frustrating. I know it suits the character but it doesn't translate into good gameplay.
Even without StV you still use a Rough Rider, can't use a roid shield in OP levels, makes you too squishy.
I usually use Blood of the Ancients too to stack as much HP as possible, Pistol and Shotgun ammo (don't need Launcher ammo coz I can just use a Sham and Logan's Gun, it even sets me on fire)
Yeah, it's the same type of bonus. StV is 500% at 10/5 though, not 600%. Also the self hits from StV are also not increased by roid damage.

Flame Flare has been patched half year ago. I guess you didn't realize that beacuse it was with Cloud Kill buff.
I thought it was but I wasn't 100% sure
I also recall after it was patched some complained it still happened but not as often
You only burn yourself to death if enemies, barrels etc put fire DOT on you. Self ignite won't kill because every time when you reignite you just reset self DOT instead of creating new over and over again, like it was before. I've done run in Fridge with 10/5 Flame Flare 10/5 Burn. Baby Burn and 10/5 Fuel the Fire to maximize self ignite and reignite chance. After constant kills between enemies waves my health was burning down with same slow rate. So I guees some complained becaue some enemy put fire DOT on them and that DOT eventually kill them.
Fuel the rampage is amazing when mobbing it allows you to stay in buzz axe rampage infinetly almost especially when paired with the bloodlust perks that let you stay in it longer and such.

With RTB capstone, it’s often optimal to cycle in and out of BAR, so you can refill health.
@@sir3543 release the beast comes after FTR, I only take it for the heal and damage resist, and I don't need that until much later on
@@SkyeBerryJam Uh.. what? Krieg has many other ways to heal himself. You take Release the Beast for the instant action skill refresh. The extra melee and damage resist is just a nice bonus.

Bloodsplosion shotgun kreg is my favorite hes so give and take when it comes to damage but my god i cant be mad when im in fight for your life o suicide and kill a boss its too funny.
But none elemental Omen has splash, so this should work on him.

Edit: I agree with the assessment on Crunch, regarding the lack of synergy, which is why I usually go Reaper when I'm building for explosives. You do lose the explosive bonus but you get bonus to Blood Bath instead so... I actually think his Legendary coms are all good but his normal ones are pretty rubbish, because of that. I played around a bit with Barbarian and Toast, those are the better ones. Other than that.. they're pretty bad... I think when levelling I used the same toast com from levels 30 to 62 when I could get a Legendary Torch.
Imagine if they made buzz axe rampage instead of having the melee key do a melee attack like the primary fire does instead it deploys a slag nova. I would have to name my Krieg Salvador it would probably be so op.
Krieg no sniper? I snipe with him and im completely melee build. I have no problems with him xD only weapons i use is sniper, launcher, smg and shothun
stefan goatmoon krieg has a skill that decreases sniper damage. The only one I would use past 80 is the Lyudmila.

Hey there, Derch. Gotta a question here. You know what I haven't come to understand well is the penalty on critical with pain is power, I see my weapons do more but if the damage is increased and crit is decreased wouldn't that damage stay the same ultimately? But I see it's not quite te same as the basic crit damage so I'd like to see if someone can help me understand a little better what goes on there.
+Rafael Uzcategui it's type c critical hit, I covered it in my derch bye critical hit guy video with the formula or look up the crust formula in the forums, I think chuck made the thread. Just plug pip into the formula.

In the part about shields I also found that he does pretty well with the Antagonist (same as every character apparently) because even if you're not getting the slag balls too often that thing still has the damage resistance and you can run around bouncing bullets which it really helps.
I can make a level 72 run through Friendship Gulag without using Moxxi healing at all. If anything, Krieg is the one who doesn't need Moxxi weapons to stay alive. If you go into a flesh map, it's a ride. Same thing for OP levels as FotF novas keep healthgating you. So, as long as you don't get a DoT, it's easier than playing at OP0. One thing I don't like though, is using explosive weaponry in Hellborn builds as not setting DoTs to enemies is too big of a loss in your survivability. So yeah, even if Krieg's explosive damage gets to ridiculous amounts, I still prefer going with Fire and Corrosion.
