    What’s un American is that in your sports leagues you don’t have relegations. You can be the crappiest team in the league and never have to pay for your failures, so you end up hogging a place you don’t deserve and block the chance for someone better than you to get promoted. America was supposed to be a meritocracy - but not in sports

    • @Ace-mw9pm
      @Ace-mw9pm Před 2 měsíci

      There is no second league in America, what you gonna do put a college team in the NFL. Relegation would not work in American football. MLS yes but not American football, basketball, or baseball.

      @@Ace-mw9pmThe point is, if I wanted to, I could start up a soccer team in Europe from scratch and take it all the way to the top. You can’t do that with any sports in America, MLS included, because it’s a closed franchise system. Only the old boy’s club members are welcome.

    • @Ace-mw9pm
      @Ace-mw9pm Před 2 měsíci

      @@darkmatter6714 different way of doing things I guess. In order to do European style relegation in the US you would have to blow are whole sports system up. From middle to high school to college sports then to professional. I don’t think one is better than the other. America with our system we still produce the best athletes in the world, soccer is just not a priority. But look how we dominate in everything else. Most Olympic medals by a large margin. In the European model the richest teams still end up winning majority of the time. And who owns a lot of these teams American and middle eastern billionaires. 10 out of the last 12 years Manchester city has either won the premier league or was the runner up. And Manchester city is the richest team in the premier league owned by a Middle Eastern billionaire. That has never even come close to happening in the NBA, NFL, or MLB. The richest team in the NFL is the Dallas cowboys and they haven’t won since 1995.

      @@Ace-mw9pm You don't have to blow up anything. Who says schools and college teams need to be part of a 2nd league?
      If MLS combined with the top level USL (United Soccer League) league, there would easily be enough teams to support relegation and promotion. The only issue is that MLS would stop being a franchise. Alternatively, MLS could allow USL teams to switch organisation. I bet many of the teams would jump at the chance, even if the would start in the 2nd league. There are probably other ways to make this happen. In any case I think it is inevitable. At some point MLS will have expanded so much that a single league is unsustainable. Of course if they are dumb enough, they will just add another conference instead. And I mean dumb, because relegation/promotion adds a level of excitement, that MLS is currently missing.

    Soccer needs to be Americanized if it is ever to become successful. Smaller field, bigger goals, you should be able to throw the ball, a goal should score 6 points and then you get a conversion, there should be cheerleaders between plays, more commercials, and the players should have guns and be allowed to shoot each other.

    When you get a draw and you were the in theory superior team. Means the 'lowly' team had a way of tactically negating the other team and/or a combination of fantastic defending and poor finishing combined to get the draw. Goals are supposed to be very hard to score because defending is as much a skill as attack is.
    A draw usually indicates one team underperforming and another overperforming or two teams cancelling each other out. Group stages are not knock out rounds those start later.

Also, if football pts were counted differently, it would be low scoring as well. The only reason it isn’t low scoring is because a td is 6 pts and a fg is 3. as soon as it gets cold af, these games be turning into low scoring trench wars. ball becomes hard as a rock and u end up running it every play or something lol. To be fair, ties are only allowed in the group stage. It's round robin style. Once we reach the top 16 bracket, the tournament becomes single elimination, with matches going into extra time, and eventually penalties if the tie doesn't break.
    And that so-called plan probably wouldn't work because of how much more refined the sport is in Europe. There's a reason all the best players go there. The only way for your idea to feasibly work is if we were to hire a bunch of training staff from European football academies. You're essentially proposing that we create a youth academy without accounting for how many decades the European academy system has already developed.
    It doesn't seem like you guys did your research haha. But that's fair. I can't expect everyone to be conscientious. There's nothing that could cause me to care about Soccer & especially not the World Cup. Its a culture thing. I'm from right outside Atlanta Georgia & never watched a Atlanta United Game but I am a Braves, Hawks & Falcons fan. US already has so many sports & its a part of American History. Don't feel bad cause most Americans don't watch Hockey either even though there's a league here. Its mainly Northerners that watch Hockey. I would imagine American Football wouldn't be that popular in the UK or Europe as well & its because of culture. The MEDIA here that talks past people & exist to say what they want try to push Soccer but it doesn't work. To be honest trying to force it is probably having the opposite effect. One last thing in America a lot of Major City's are full of transplants from other parts of America that go to that city & work. That's why here in GA the Atlanta United Games would have great attendance because its in the middle of the City but if you 1-525 miles outside the City its not even a thing. Just pointing that out if you watch a MLS Soccer game & it looks packed. Its all about the city its in & the transplant workers.

      @@toomanyls8306 But the world in general doesn't care about basketball, you will never dominate football like you do basketball for the simple fact people actually care about football. Americans bragging about dominating American sports will never not be hilarious to me. The last 5 mvps in the NBA have been won by foreign players and it's only getting started. If you combined the population of ever country in Europe in which basketball was a top 5 most popular sport it wouldn't even be half the population of the US.

    As long as americans persist on their playoff systems football will never succeed. Ties are not the problem when you have a league system. Because a tie can be a win or a loss dependent on what kind of season youre having, if you scrape a tie against a big team you see it as a win, while the big team will see it as a loss. Its al a matter of perspective and thats why its the biggest sport of the world.
