Before smart phones, social media, play stations.... We had after school specials and we thought that was a treat! ❤
Bring back After school specials...they saved ALOT of us
but people don't watch things when they're told to anymore
Yes I love the after schools. Specials
Amen to that these last two generation need something because they all going to hell in a handbasket
Around what years did they do after school specials?? I have a HORRIBLE Memory y'all!! I grew up in the late '80s, early '90s, was it around that time error!? Because it sounds SOO Familiar to me! Thanks in advance!😊
Yes!!!!!!!!
The fact that (Rob Lowe) was honest with his mother and had dared to try to raise his son--even if it was just for one week--had displayed great courage on his part.
Ah the 80's, when you find out your a father by reading the local news.
Rob Lowe is literally just the first Zac Efron.
Truth
Yup! And my first major Hollywood crush back in the day. When I see him today I’m thinking ugh, he looks old. Then I’ll look in the mirror…Where did time go?
I was totally thinking the same .
Who?
@@crimnclove1970he's still cute. He's just nearly-sixty cute.
I never realized how much Dana Plato and Melissa Gilbert resembled each other until now. Dana not only looks like Melissa here, she sounds just like her too!
Thanks for the upload.❤
She does in this movie. But, when her hair is blonde and of course, she has blue eyes, she doesn't look like Melissa Gilbert. I think Dana Plato was a lot prettier than Melissa Gilbert. IMO ❤
I used to love these afterschool specials as a child and teen, such a shame they quit making them. They are very entertaining and well written, much more enjoyable than the tripe that's cranked out today.
I learned a lot from these shows, as I suppose did a lot of children and teens. They were great to have around once I outgrew Sesame Street and The Electric Company after school.
Stupidist movie I ever saw!
& the 80s?? Come on! The 80s weren't the 50s. No one condemned single mothers in the 80s. My first was born in 83, my last in 98. . .alot changed in 15 yrs & allot has changed since..but. 1983 no one was sent off or away.
Yep. The HBO specials, too.
me to I love older movies😊😊
Teen Mom MTV
This is a perfect way to explain to teens why it's important to "take precautions " just let them take care of an infant for a few days and I'm sure they would get the message!😉
they didn't mention what precautions they could've taken
Precautions as in ways to avoid temptation. Even if always only met in public.
How about teaching teens to wait until they get married and are ready to handle having a baby ❤️
No need to mention precautions.. Everybody knows its about condoms or pills..even teenagers.
Seeing Dana Plato breaks my heart. Although some of you thinks she couldn't act, she is a huge reminder of how destructive Hollywood can be. It can chew people up and spit them out. RIP Dana Plato.
***** Yeah, but Dana was also pregnant by 1984, fired from Different Strokes, had no job,got on drugs and her life ended shortly after a decade after she was fired from the show.
+Dbusdriver71 That should just go without saying nowadays. If you just look at that "family" whose surname begins with K, that's all the example you need for that thesis.
Yeah. Dana Plato ironically got pregnant by her boyfriend while staring in Different Strokes and lost her career. It is too bad no one shared God's love for her and helped her out of her position. What a Tragic End.
Yes, and to think Diff'rent Strokes would late Spin Off The Facts Of Life. She was living proof that all it took was one mistake and it can cost you your life and career. She didn't have the Support System that others did.
Fanny Z Yeah its not made out the way you think
My husband was a single father raising two kids on his own, that was what attracted me to him, I was a single mom of 2 myself....the only difference was we werent teenagers. I think its a beautiful thing when a Man steps in and raises his children!
Why the hell did you capitalize the word man? WTF?!!
Blaire Dawn meaning a “real” man since aren’t that many and why does it bother you they capitalized it maybe it was a text mistake my phone does that sometimes
Absolutely! I'll bet that attraction from the common responsibilities you both took on is a strong one! I don't have kids, and I was a single child. But I do know that good parenting is never easy, and it basically means the parent lives for the kid, to raise and protect and teach and eventually have their own family. The world needs more strong parents.. like mine.. like you, and your husband....
I loved ABC after school specials! Oh how lucky we were, I was 1-10 in the 70’s and 11-20 in the 80’s… life was good, TV was great ❤️❤️❤️
I call for a sequel where Rob Lowe becomes a great grandfather.
^ This
Hardly old enough for that
That baby would be 40 years old now 😳
I guess he just found out that shes pregnant
NOPE, No sequel. Stupid movie
This idiot is failing LIFE.
His Life is over, No more parties.
LIFE is a responsibility.
What do you bet he leaves his kid alone to go to the party?
@13:55 Him: "Didn't you take any precautions?".
Her: "You were there. Did you!?".
Love it! You go girl!
BOTH OF THEM ARE GUILTY, PERIOD.
As a girl I would always make sure to take care of that side, knowing that I'm the one who would, literally, bear the consequences. My body, my responsibility...
Sadly, though both are technically responsible, the girl IS the one who should be sure it’s all covered. Heck, my daughter is the condom dispenser at college. Ironically, she’s one of the few not involved but that’s another story. I sent her to school with boxes…..for this very reason. And the girls all carry them; in case. No matter how it may sound, they’re trying to be smart about it.
These programs were so educational and entertaining when I was a pre-teen! Even with all of the social media crap going on today, I'm sure plenty of teens would still find these after-school specials useful!!
Educational and interesting even for an adult..im 51 ,born in 1972 and never watched this tv movie before..I love these oldies..I am french but there was a storyline in thèse short movies, emotions and realistic plots..
It showed life the way it was hard but True..
Ikr they even are rewarded with shows by getting pregnant like 16 and pregnant. Shit like that didn't exist when I was 16 it was something to shun.
Nancy McKeon is a great actress. In this movie she plays as Lucy a friend of Charles. But on The Facts of Life she played Jo. She has a lovely smile that sends a message. I absolutely love her work. It is such an amazing feeling the way she has it!
So many cameo appearances in just this one episode! And my fav Nancy McKeon! JO! Our tv shows back then broke so many barriers and socially taboo subjects.
Agreed!! We grew up with some of the GREATEST shows, ever!!!
They still replay to this day!!! 👍❤️
Always thought she was beautiful trying to play so tough. Today she's married to a Mark( like Pam Dawber and Mark Harmon 🥰). They have 2 beautiful daughters they keep far away from the spotlight❤️❤️
There’s is no greater sadness than losing a child voluntarily or not. Watching this brought all the painful memories back from having to give up my daughter a year ago. Please, please always use precaution!
Im sorry you had to make such a difficult decision. I hope your daughter doesn't hold any negativity and can understand.
So sorry
I hope you're doing well now
I'm late to this comment. But I have to commend you. It's rare I see people who love something more than themselves. I don't know your situation, but your heart is solid. It takes a selfless person and you did that.
Yes as an adoptee this is painful for me as my adoptive father was a horrible child molester. Adoption is not always the best option.
thank you, you're all welcome. I love these old afterschool specials too.
Rob Lowe was so cute , back then . He was awww-some as Sodapop .
Absolutely gorgeous guy. Beautiful. I can't imagine there would have been and still wouldn’t be many females and not a few males who would not to sleep with him given the chance - then or now.
He's always been cute. He still is and his Instagram is so funny.
love how he so obviously counted back on his fingers after his mom said Daisy had a baby. LOL
GW Gardenwife I mean how could that mom not notice and slap him on the back of the head
This was the funniest part
It irritates me so much that folks are saying this doesn't happen like this anymore judgmental idiots those of you like the cps workers that protect your own interests in making money out of it and destroying lifes ...........
I was a teenage mom that kept my beautiful child with God providing everything I needed. This propagation is a lie from the pits of hell. I grew more responsible earlier that my college undereducated friends. Ran several businesses as we again had to dig in and work. Now retired early to enjoy my children and 9 grandchildren.
You my dear are a very blessed lady!
They did save a lot of us. Watching this brings back such memories of growing up my mom always dressing this way.
What a gem. My mom had the same kitchen back then. My brother ended up in the same situation as this kid in the early 80s too. Speaks volumes.
Thank you! Idk that I ever saw this one. I became pregnant at 17. My daughter is 44 now and I have 3 lovely grandchildren in their 20s. I was lucky to have a strong work ethic and was not in school. And I had a loving family who was always there. As I have been for my daughter and grandkids. I thank God for that.🙏🕊️
Rob Lowe was so cute when he was a teen. 😍

Gorgeous!
Haha thanks for the upload. I met Rob Lowe in the 80s when he was filming Young Blood and I worked as an extra for 2 weeks. Got to meet Patrick Swayze too. I was really young... about 13 years old, so I didn't even know who Rob Lowe or Patrick Swayze were. They were both really really really really nice. Neither one of them were like "go away kid" to me. Lol. They were humble and really nice!
What film and what scene were u in?
@@raeturner8711 It was called Young Blood. I was one of the extras in the audience at the hockey rink. On breaks, Rob Lowe would come sit with us extras in the stands and talk with us. Well... girls, haha, not so much the guys. But he was very genuinely nice.
@@southwestontario theres plenty of scenes in hocky rink. Do they get a clear shit at you? What year was this?

Reminds me so much of growing up. All these after school special. I remember taking the bus home from school and running from my bus stop to my house so that I'd make it in time to watch the after school specials. Latch key kid, of course.
Very good!! after school special. This needs to be taught in high school across the united states.
OMG! Rob Lowe looks so adorable feeding his baby. I always had a crush on Rob Lowe. Even now, he still looks fine!
They should still make these and show them in school!!
Sometimes being a good and loving parent means letting go. I think he was a good father.
She was wrong she should had told him God bless the father who step up to be a father to his child
So true. So many men do not stand up and take care of their kids.
But yet he wanted his mother to take care of the baby so he could go to a party, just proves he not ready to be a father
Has Rob Lowe ever not been cute or gorgeous.? He is so hot to this day
Sherrilyn Richardson Who cares. It's not relevant. This is about teen pregnancy.
he is a very good looking person, and I even think so and this is coming from a possible lesbian, so yes he is very blessed

I remember watching the after school special that talked about being molested . This I believe saved me a few times. I remember letting my Dad know when a family friend put his hand on my butt and lingered. I looking back I believe he was grooming me because he brought me candy and took special interest in me which made me like him. Always coming over to see my Dad and bringing gifts . I was 11 and he was o in his 50’s. I knew how to tell him no and to tell my parents right away . My step mom was molested by her father and uncle and she ran out the door after him with a knife !
I was too by my Dad and two of my uncle's.

Rob did N excellent job in this movie. He showed a real sensitivity with the character in this situation. Raising a baby is rewarding but a lot of self sacrifice.
My sons take excellent care of their babies. One of them has been his son's primary caregiver since birth.
I don't think no mother should never ever turn her back on her son for getting a girl pregnant or turn her back on her daughter for getting sexually touched by a boy. Parents should always stand by you at all times.
Damn Ashton Kutcher was probably inspired to look like Rob from back then, for That 70's Show.

I miss the 80's.

I love how Sonny from the Godfather is collecting parking fees.
This or movies/shows like this need to be shown more often. Teens are quite capable of taking responsibility for their actions.
I don't think many teens today would appreciate the emotional after school specials like we did. They can't even take their eyes off their phones long enough to properly watch an episode either.
@@ReneTheFox Nor to watch a sunset or a strip of neon.

What I'm saying is growing up, tv shows in the 80's tackled subject matter that was, until then, very taboo to talk about, but was needed... teen pregnancy, teen suicide, molestation, dangerous drugs, and tons more. Nowadays most media being shared is all to do with the " me! me! Me!" attitude
I felt so sorry for Charles! He loved his son!
Yeah. I feel pretty sorry for him too.
How old is this and I'm sobbing again watching this the second time. First time was in 1980. This is what KIDS need to be watching.
Of all the after school specials, this one made me cry the most.
Some mothers face this all the time and raise their babies without help from anyone. It is nice to see a new father at least trying to take care of his baby.
I am so happy to see him wishing to be father.. He really loved his baby. Daisy as a mother how could she do!!
He didn’t try.
He wanted his mother to take care of the baby 24/7
For some reason the scene that involved Rob’s character paying two bucks for parking at the hospital really resonated with me.
loved these when I was a girl. They were lessons learned. Thank you for bringing them back.
I remember seeing this movie back in the day... it scared the crap out of me!
"Didn't you take any precautions?" "You were there, did you?" 😂
If a father is willing to care for the child and can provide and is a fit parent.... HE should have first chance before the baby is placed for adoption.
jenn jeffs That’s very true, but if he’s unable--no matter how willing--he needs to learn that for himself, so that he can do what’s best by letting go. Which sadly is what love requires us to do sometimes.
I love those after school special.Bring back memories.
I wish young men had as much honor and integrity about helping raise all the babies being born out of wedlock. They wont even pay child support, much less change a diaper or get up at3am for a feeding.A child needs stability and to feel loved and wanted. Great movie, all middle and high schools should show this movie as part of orientation.
Really enjoyed watching Dana Plato play this role. I can hardly hold back the tears knowing she's gone. Films like this are so much needed back. How can a society go to trash so quickly with what it's putting out today. I miss these days so badly. LORD...Please help us and bring our society back to wholesome times!
Yes a real shame about Dana. Pretty girl.
But ... society *was* trash in 1980, and not wholesome times. I remember the drugs, crime, inflation, divorce, gas shortages, the Soviets invading Afghanistan, and hostages in Iran. 21:56 "A million teenage pregnancies last year alone." Nothing's really changed in 40 years.
Under the liberals, God is removed in America, so once that happened, the values and respect are destroyed. Today, we have rachet reality shows with no values.

I remember these specials. They tried to teach us what not to do but having those cute guys in them just made us want them! Lol
🤣😂 You said what the rest of us were thinking haha
Does this mother ever do anything but yell CHARLES
I miss these after school specials.
Hey that's Nancy McKeon.
This film tells me two things:
1. There aren't enough discussions among couples regarding birth control. "I didn't, did you?"
2. Sex ed was woefully insufficient. The guy didn't know the length of gestation.
If you think it was insufficient then, it is non-existent in many schools now, especially in the South, other than "abstinence only," which has been shown not to reduce teen pregnancy rates.
Check out the documentary "The Education of Shelby Knox" if you want to see what has been done to sex education in large swaths of the U.S.
@@inkyguyno, that movie is fem!n!stic drivel 😅
I was in HighSchool during the 1970s and I can assure you the guys all knew about how babies are born, how long it took and birth control.
The blue car @ 8:15 is a Mustang II. That was my first car except mine was brown with a beige landau roof. I loved that car!!! My sister had one just like that in 1983, same color. The 4-cyclinder got a whopping 88 horsepower, no A/C.
Don't feel bad. Yes we all want to be young again, but among other things, cars today are FAR better than in the 1970s.
@@r5t6y7u8 Maybe cars are better......but soon we'll be too old to drive them LOL.

My nephew made a baby with his girl friend when he was 14 and she was 13. His mother allowed him to have girls over for the night at their home. He has no relationship with that daughter or that ex-girlfriend. The girlfriend and her parents raised that baby. Just making babies. No connections. Just sexual release. How selfish and disgusting. Heartbreaking.

I think all father's should have a chance to raise their own children. She didn't tell him about the baby because she knew he would want to keep it. Just because you have a baby at a young age doesn't mean the world has ended. It just means you have to learn quick about being a parent.
You're correct about fathers having a chance to raise their kids. We are witnessing several generations of grown children that didn't have fathers in their lives and what it has done to our society and the idea of what families are suppose to be. The laws then and still today grossly favor a mothers rights over the fathers. I'm not blaming laws for bad fathers or bad behavior of kids growing up without fathers, but when courts as so bias against fathers rights we now see the damage it has caused. I believe in equal rights to all in every way. The laws state there is no bias but I've spent so much time in family courts watching a rubber stamp give mothers a custody arrangement and fathers so little visitation, allowing mothers to move children long distances away from fathers and a child support system that varies so greatly from one state to another that kids become lottery tickets!!!! Not every case is a raw deal but it's impossible to sit one day in family courts and not see an enormous bias that honestly does "NOT" take into account the childs best interest.
You and your child are much more likely to live in poverty.
Tracymmo says who?
My dad raised me. A single guy raising his baby girl in the 80's.
Or for them too raise child with help from family

The fact that so few stories tackled the reality there are men who want to take responsibility and don't get the system is rigged where they cannot hits home. Also, it is always painful seeing how talented Dana Plato was.. and knowing now what we know about what Hollywood does to female actors starting at young ages.

These ABC Family series covered some serious social issues quite honestly and well especially for the 70’s and early 80’s and this one was no exception. The naivety of teens having unprotected sex and of the consequences of pregnancy at that age was very well portrayed. Interesting to see a 16 year old Rob Lowe - tbh I think he got the role for his good looks rather than his acting ability!
How sad

Rob Lowe is cute omg
Rob Lowe....he aged well.
So did Dana Plato
I know!
xenu hillman you do know did Dana Plato died of a drug overdose right?
She doesn’t look a day past mid-1999...and all while living in a trailer on her mother-in-law’s property...with pre-teen son nearby (who was really only living with that train wreck of a mom due to his father showing little-to-no-interest in being involved.
On one hand, quite sad, but on the other hand, quite impressive and courageous for this young man (again, her son) to literally take charge at the viewing/funeral and tell the paparazzi what they could, and more importantly, what they couldn’t do, if they were to take part at either function.
What they wanted, of course, were pictures of his deceased mother in her coffin...lid open. Here’s this young man, no meaningful father in his life, basically forced into the care of his non-nurturing paternal grandmother, and with the truly worst-case scenario of a once successful Hollywood-teen-turned-complete-disaster of a mother...financial troubles (see note above concerning trailer parked on mother-in-law’s property as primary living quarters)...legal troubles (several arrests...most notably for “Sticking-Up” a Las Vegas video rental store, to which she was caught ONLY as her conscience got the better of her, and somehow convinced her to immediately return the “loot” to the store. As she was “walking back to the video store...mere minutes after robbing it...wearing the same clothes...walking the same path she took after robbing the store...she was spotted and picked up...at least, this is how Ms. Plato explained the matter. The funniest part was the video store clerk, who subsequently called 911 just after the robbery...telling the 911 operator that her store had just “been robbed...and she’s certain that the culprit was Dana Plato, or Kimberly Drummond, from ‘Diff’rent Strokes’.”
Anyway, enough about her. As I was saying, her young son handled everything courageously. He was a lot stronger than I would’ve been. Let’s hope that he somehow has put every shit card he was dealt in the game of life back into the pile, and that he continues to adjust normally (now that is been almost 20 years...just crazy.)
John Larson didn't she do it interview, where she said that she was drug free? Yet died the next day from a drug overdose?
so sad ... i was really hoping he could handle it, since he didn't try to shirk his responsibility.
The whole point of this is to communicate to teens that even with the best of intentions and even parental support and care, teens are usually ill-equipped and too emotional immature to raise a child.
That nurse was a pain!
Rob Lowe was a handsome young man
I loved them then, and super happy that I'm watching them now after all these years ❤😊
I love a good after school special
The social worker was so wrong to insert her opinions onto Charles' choices. The girl was snotty and rude throughout this....she kept her pregnancy hidden and just thought about her own inconveniences. She made the choice to have sex and wasn't innocent. Having a baby isn't a death sentence. Babies are a blessing and bless a man who steps up for his child(ren)!
Babies also are a huge responsibility for a 16 year old boy who has his whole life ahead of him! I agree, the girl was horrible, but she was young & d*mb too!
She was so naive

A super young Rob Lowe!
He’s only 16 here
