It seems as though the rich girl didn't have a problem, it was the other girls who judged her because they were jealous of her
Exactly!
Ya..it was the other girl. A Cook?!
Like I can't believe I'm saying this..but poor little rich girl! Haha
This is beautiful... They need shows like this in today's world.... especially now...
That’s the truth!
This is from a time when they wanted to save kids, now they want to destroy them.
The good old days when the world was really good and sweet and simple
I wish I could go back there and stay!!
Jennifer Jason Leigh has always been a great actress
My parents were just plain, humble people. They never won any awards or done anything important.
But they were honest, God-fearing people who never cheated or stole from anyone.
MY PARENTS WERE SAME 🙏🤝👍🏆🥇
It's interesting that you think they never did anything important but say they were honest and never stole. Being a good human being contributes positively to society and is very important.
@@retha1875 Definitely agree. It takes more grit and social perception to be a decent human being than not.
@@jenniferwilcox9759And it's so much EASIER to be a good person in my humble opinion!
❤❤
This is so 80's Graduated in 1987. Never knew just how blessed I was. Makes one realize just how messed up everything is this day in time!! God speed!!!
Your are 💯 right.
This is nothing but the honest truth! We really had it made, we had really good times.
We had no idea how simple life really was back then.
Yes.. kids was kids ..
Nor how backwards.
Good times back then. 😊
@@dmmoctobernothing backwards about being decent, having class, communication and common sense...
Love this time travel with an all-star cast: Marion Ross, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kari Michaelsen, and Julie Piekarski :)
If you notice, the two girls who played Fran's cousin and the cousin's friend were on the "Golden Girls" as Blanche's niece, Lucy, and the first Rebecca Deveraux who had the prick fiance, Jeremy.
I'd be proud to tell anyone that my mother was a professional chef.
I was just proud of my mother.
Every time her cousin storms off I yell at the screen "Then give her the necklace back!"
Gotta be honest and I graduated in 85. That scene where the daughter is told mom's cooking, where is the respect or care for your parents. This is a self centered issue, we should absolutely teach our children to appreciate what we have and how we got it.
I think one of my favorite coworkers was a janitor at a school, of course he had a lot more responsibility than cleaning but he always had a smile for everyone, just an all-around nice guy. He took pride in his work and it probably took 3 people to replace him when he retired.
We had a janitor like that at my school. My friends and I always greeted him because we stayed after school for activities. He probably retired adter we graduated but he was nice and funny. His name was Gary.
I know..I felt that ..A COOK?! WHOAAA LITTLE BIA
I love This! Before cell phones, computers I pads and pods and kids are going to the beach reading books and writing letters!
Yea it was really great growing up in those times! I miss it
suev33 3 I had a Bestfriend we would always write eachother notes than pass them to eachother before each class man I miss those days I had saved most of our notes in a small box but than ended up losing them all I was so crushed but luckily I still am friends w/ the girl our bond is still tight as ever 🙏🏼❤️
Thats odd. 'Bout time someone gets on board with basically the same thing Ive been saying since 1983. When i was in 9th grade. Thats why I was a loner in high school. Now all of a sudden people are agreeing with me. 35 years too late. i felt the same way in the early 80s.
yeah that shit was boring af
I was an 80's child I grew up in the 80's we actually played outside went to library .
When everybody had good hair. Now I’m loosing it lol.
We all are! I miss the 80’s. My hair was so big and full!
I wouldn't be ashamed of a parent who held this job title as long as they honored the job duties. My dream job was school janitor. I did become a brief janitor but not at a school. I love making the world a cleaner place.
steele Pete ur wonderful
Bahahahaha!!!! A janitor!
Cool! Somebody has to want to do those jobs and have a passion for them...like sanitation, crime scene cleaners, etc. Thankfully, there are people who love the work which means they'll do excellent work and even create innovative ways to get them done...necessity is the mother of invention as is desire to see more efficient ways of doing things...more specifically things most don't want to do. God bless those of you who do them and enjoy it. Hopefully, more mature and appreciative human beings will learn to respect it as much as they do those who simply entertain people for a living. I hope fana406 realizes that the next time s/he walks into a public restroom and it hasn't been cleaned. Not so funny after all.
My husband was a cleaner for two years. He made more money doing that than he did managing an IT department in a professional office. He was able to schedule his work hours to our lifestyle and he didn’t have to go to the gym anymore. He still calls it "my dream job"...
There's an awesome guy I'll always remember, who washed dishes for us when we were working recovery at the WTC Site after 9/11. The Salvation Army had set up a massive white tent we called the Taj, where we could go and get food between shifts; and because we were working around the clock, there was always someone's turn to eat.
Lots of people worked at the Taj as volunteers -- they washed the dishes, cooked the food, and kept the place clean and neat (despite the dust we tended to track in on our clothes). I especially remember this one guy I got to know, because he was there week after week, month after month, washing dishes on his free time because it was a volunteer job (non-paying).
He was the nicest guy, and a good listener, and he made our lives more bearable during those nine months. He said he'd come down to volunteer because, "I had to do something, and this is something I can do."
It's people like this who quietly make the whole world a better place.♥️
I love Jennifer Jason Leigh …. Just when I thought I saw all of her acting work … she is such a powerhouse
The other girls are the suck up ones, not the rich girl at all. She is so sweet.
Yes, and Fran thought that Andrea was the snob! Talk about calling the kettle black!😎 At least she realized that Andrea wasn't so bad after all and pointed it out to her snotty, snobby, stuck-up cousin.
Jennifer Jason Leigh (Andrea) is such a great actress. In this role, she brings a special quality that makes you care about her character.
I KNEW that I recognised her! You're right...what an actress!
She is a good actress, her father, Vic Morrow, would be proud.😎
I remember watching these growing up...great lessons.
Wish they had something like this nowadays....❤
I love Marion Ross! She always played a GREAT mother and grandmother role. She was reassuring, loving, caring, and comforting to her kids and grandkids. And, she gave good advice and had words of wisdom to the younger generations.
My other grandmother!!
She was perfection!
I graduated high school in 1983. Boy how everything has changed.
I graduated in 1993 and I thank God I was born when I did!😎
I graduated in 2012…..I see I was late to the graduation party….just as I was late to this comment😅
@@triciajohansen92951996 for me and I say the same!
Graduation in ‘84 😊
I graduated in 1988...How times have changed.
I remember Sunday afternoons being letter writing afternoons...we always wrote to our family that was far away ! The good days!
They really misjudged Andrea. She wasn't at all stuck up.It just seems lonely & wanted friends.
I cried twice. Great afterschool special. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you for posting. I wish they had shows like these today, but who would appreciate them. If I had to go back times the 80's would be it.
The 80s and the late 70s; I loved that era. It was a perfect time to grow up.
Although I did grow up in the 80's, it was far from perfect. It's common and natural to romanticize the past although lets not forget how far we have come as a society in so many ways.
I'd take the 80s over now
I feel the same🩷
Me too!!!
I miss these shows 😆
Jennifer Jason Leigh is wonderful, hs a lovely inner quality. Love these old movies, thanks.
Having a great work ethic is one of the most important attributes. With the entitled generation of young adults we have today , it is refreshing to see programs where values are important.
I used to love these after school specials when I was little.
I wish after school specials were on now
This was one of my favorite books as a child. After seeing this, I managed to track down a copy to read with my daughter.
In my opinion, Andera's mother and step-father are making by not allowing her to hang out with other teenagers her age and I can relate to that for this reason I went through the same thing when I was a teenager.
You should always be proud of your parents you have love and food u should be happy
Not everyone has the love part
I wouldn't be ashamed of my mom having a job as a maid. She is making an honest living
She isn't selling her body or drugs.
Amen!
What a wonderful story. I too loved the after school specials, even though I hardly remember the stories, so now I can view them again as a young ole woman of 57. And I agree with everyone who appreciates this kind of television for young people instead of today's mostly mediocre stuff, especially (not-)Reality TV. And I notice only now how the producers actually showed that Black kids, like I was, existed outside of the stereotypical settings and had friends of all Colors, because when I was a kid it was so normal.
Now all the young kids have tattoos and wear tight trashy dark clothes. At least the kids in that generation looked cleaner.
And most kids were not wealthy like this. As far as I know.
@@janie3117 😄Your first paragraph is funny.
Jennifer is such a cutie and the girl on give me a break this is awesome I miss Afterschool Specials
Me too
I miss watching clean wholesome movies like this. Too bad they didn't make them anymore for television. Thanks for sharing, it had me crying. I will share this
YOU GOT THAT RITE MS.TINA🙏🤝👍🙌
Agree 💯
wow the girls from The Facts of Life and Gimme A Break
mrfrogbutt1 ❤️👍😁
Don't forget the girl from Happy Days.
I cleaned a doctor’s office twice a week as a side gig, for fifteen years. I’ve no reason to be embarrassed about it at all, although some of my colleagues thought differently. My principal instructed me to not tell my students or their parents, or to talk about it. She expressed the desire I should quit. So I asked for an equivalent raise, which she couldn’t grant.
Life lessons learned that one should never judge ca book by its cover
Marian Ross is very beautiful. I never really noticed her looks but she is gorgeous. They played her down on Happy Days.
Not everyone in the world has glamorous jobs. Many people have regular jobs. But kids shouldn't be ashamed of their parents working plain jobs. No job is stupid if you're using the money to support yourself and your family. That is why your parents work... IT'S FOR YOU! My parents did work office jobs but not exactly very high profile. A lot of times, one of them would go in on Saturdays to do extra work so they could bring home some extra money. They worked hard to put me and my brother through school and now that I'm a full-time worker, I admire them for that. I even go in an extra day a week for a few hours whenever I can, to make some extra money. My sweetheart admires me for that.
All of the Afterschool Specials need to be remastered and re-released. They are awesome!
A lonely child seeking a friend and happiness but people judge her because she's rich. So judgemental.
They call her a snob but it's the other way around.
So true!
I don't think they are snobs. Quite the opposite. To me they appear to feel inferior or believe that she views them as inferior so they would rather reject her than risk being rejected first. These seem like people that are taking their insecurities out on her.
@@ShockResistor very much like teenagers, it's an awkward time for everyone, whether we want to admit or not.
You should NEVER be ashamed of being poor as long as you r doing an honest "days pay" it doesn't matter all u need is the basics rich is not better it's not what u have but what is in your soul beauty is in the eye of the beholder this movie was very good TY didn't see it til now and when it came out I was16! they seem to have judged the rich girl and she was not even snobby as ppl perceived her to be usually it's the other way around which proves it's not always the case the rich have more problems than the middle class or even poor maybe Eveyone from different walks of life they all have problems Nobody should judge anybody that is God's job)
So often times it's the poor people who are actually the stuck up ones, treating wealthy kids like they are snobs. Sometimes they are, and sometimes they aren't.
Whenever you’re doing an honest days work there is no time for shame
Wow thease Bring me Back I Love thease After school specials
Maybe I was just looking for a reason to cry but this made my eyes well-up! Good storyline! There is a lesson to learn, as well!
Man how I looked forward to these after school and would just about lose it when clock said almost like 4:45 pm and realized I missed just about the whole episode after I got off school 😂🤣🤣
She's not a cook she's a chef!!
I love watching old videos like old ppl although i wasent even. Born at that time
I feel bad for Andrea. I like to imagine that she took off for New York to find her father as soon as she finished high school.
Just started and am immediately thinking “just wait till they learn the truth about Andrea”. Poor thing. Abused? Neglected? Just as embarrassed of her parents? Probably all three! 🤷♀️. Yep! There it is. Andrea wishes she could go on the picnic with them. Something is amiss!
Julie Piekarski (Sue Ann from the Facts of Life) plays Fran's best friend Sarah. Never saw this movie before today. Thanks for uploading! :)
And Marion Ross is Mrs. Cunningham on Happy Days.
Fran's cousin, Brenda, and Brenda's friend, I think the character's name was Eva, played Blanche's niece and daughter on the "Golden Girls".
@@triciajohansen7124 Good eye! You are correct!
@@GrandTime-17 thanks!!!😎👍
@@triciajohansen7124 And Mr. Fairchild (James Karen) was on “The Golden Girls” as Dorothy’s boyfriend who could never be alone with her because Sophia kept tagging along on their dates. 😆
Loved this movie. Thank you.
This was such a good episode. Seeing this, takes me back to my childhood and teenage years. 😊
More proof that Jennifer Jason-Leigh was the pre-Kristen Stewart of her time! I cannot think of anyone before her with that brooding dark side that a flip of the hair or camera angle turns her into this sweet girl-next-door, then another into some type of Lolita. I think she was the inventor of this persona!!
Better than Stewart!
Never was embarrassed of my mom job. She was a stay at home. She cooked the best food and cleaned everyday. Respect❤ miss u mom.
This was so sweet! What a great ending. I really miss these after school specials. Stellar cast!
What's wrong with being a cook
Well that's just a great ending. The kids approved of the parent's choices. I guess the kids brought up their parents right afterall.
These people lived in a bubble on PERFECT STREET in comparison to the troubles we face today !
No today we are just a bunch of fucking snowflakes. Life was far harder then
The parents are unemployed. The kid is the product of divorce. Come again?
Yep, it's 2022. You are so right.
"You have a real family." 😢
I get it, both girls seemed ashamed of their parents and become friends. cute story
you didn't watch it did you?
@LoveEverton John everybody ashamed of your private parts
Oh, and Kari Michelson's hair was the Rachel cut of its time! I was still trying to do it in '87 (my senior year pic is a beyond-pathetic attempt!!)
😂 when I look at my 85-88 yearbooks and see the bangs that were teased straight up, I cringe.
the original mean girls
As long as you do your job with honesty..be proud ❤❤
I think I remember seeing this. I was 16 and dealing with normal teenaged angst.
What a wonderful lesson about people aren’t always who they seem to be.
I really love the 80's clothes. I remember wearing dresses as a teen. ✨
jennifer jason leigh IS the greatest.Love her
I love Marion Ross!
Great wholesome story!!
I'm here to see Timothy J. Maier, who (Steve, the brother) played Chad on LHOTP. YUMMY!!!
Mrs C...!!!!!!!🤗😄👍
Very cute!
My parents were great, i love them deeply❤❤❤
When I saw the title I instantly recalled this. My brother made fun of me because I felt sorry for the rich girl. Was Kari from "GIMME A BREAK"? Whatta cutie.
notgrillo collector/ gamer yes she was Katie on Gimme A Break
Aww what a cute ending
Jennifer Jason Leigh was so cute!
It is refreshing to see un-tatooed women again.
One of the things I'm so proud of, is I have never gotten a tattoo, nor will I ever, and I instilled it in my children. I have two adult children and they've never gotten tattoos and never will.
Lady, people have been getting tattoos for centuries.
@@clutchhh So?
@@brenidk5566So because my children don't have tattoos, somehow I'm controlling?!? 🤣 🤣 🤣 I'm not controlling at all, they live their own lives, just because they don't want to look like marked up gutter trash, doesn't mean that they're controlled by me. Nor are they controlled by mainstream society that encourages people to follow the herd and deface their bodies, and shame them when they don't do what everyone else is doing. My children are not mainstream media controlled zombies, nor are they my zombies. They're not going to do anything that they don't decide on their own, nor do they blame others when their decisions don't turn out like they planned. They're personally responsible, freethinking, hard working individuals, and my husband and I could not be prouder of them.
@@clutchhh So? That doesn't mean that they've ever looked good or sophisticated. Tattoos in the 20th century were popularized by prisoners and gang members. Only lowlife scum got them and proudly showed them off. This thing of marking up the body with everything from Chinese symbols to "arm sleeves" and making the body into a mural, is a relatively new thing, having only been popularized in the mid 90's until today. No matter how artful a tattoo might be, the thing is going to fade and change as the body changes and eventually the people who have marked themselves up to excess, will look ridiculous. They'll be 80 years old, in a retirement home, their wrinkled, sagging, crepey skin marked up with names of forgotten people, long forgotten adventures and plain stupidity. They'll look even more ridiculous than they do now lol.
Ahhh, Burbank before all the tear downs, and overpopulation. How sweet it was.
The “mean girls” were the other girls, lol.
Kari Michaelsen wow. I was so in love with her when I was a kid. The first time I saw her on Gimme A Break, I was hooked.
hey stacy this is the place to be
Jennifer and Kari.. Beautiful
i was feeling sorry mostly for the rich girl. Having no friends at all must such.
the movie is that the rich girl wasn't happy about having a step dad that's why she was sad and had an additude
The two girls on the right at the 12:43 mark both did parts on The Golden Girls. One played "Blanche's" daughter. The other played her niece.
OMG yes, you're right!
Thank you for confirming that! I thought so but wasn't sure.
the moral of this story is don't judge a book by it's clover
Lol
Simpler times
No smartphones
No entitlement
Haven't watched it yet but im cracking up at the title of this movie.😂😂😂
Thanks for the upload! Great job. A tiny bit of trouble with audio but not too bad. 👍
Sadly enough, a lot of Young Actresses from the 1970's and 1980's were the first to have the Eating Disorder, Anorexia Nervosa. Kari Michaelsen Jill Whelan (Vicky) The Love Boat, Mary McDonough (Erin The Waltons) and even Susan Dey (Laurie The Partridge Family).
laminage There is a recorded case of anorexia from 1684. It was just publicized more.
Karen, Karen Carpenter who died from it
And also Tracey Gold.
I agree with most of the comments. The shows are great and really good casts. The only negative is that most of the episodes are tied up neat and tidy and life is not always like that
A very nice film.
Thank goodness for captions!!!
(It's not perfect but it sure helps!)
I would rather have this job than my customer service job.
the maids daughter is so rude !
Mislead by her cousin and friends' gossip.
JJL is so good.
Great movie 🍿🎥
Marion Ross looks about 40 here , whereas when she started on Happy Days 10 years before this, she looked about 50. Just shows you how hairstyles can affect how old a person looks.
She was a sad rich girl. ☹️
