And that the Trojan horse was Roman
It’s okay, the first guy referenced Alexander the Great

you can tell that first guy doesn’t know anything about ancient Rome because he name dropped Alexander the great.
Yep 😂
Alexander the Great, famously from Rome…
his empire definitely served as a model to the Romans. they looked at him and said, okay it would be really cool to do all this and have it NOT all fall apart the moment you die
It actually shows the opposite. Because of Alexander and his conquest spreading Greek culture throughout most of the near East and Mediterranean, the Eastern Roman Empire is heavily influenced by him, and stood for longer because of how much of an impact he had on that area of the world
Take a shot every time Noel confuses Ancient Greece with Ancient Rome
💀
As someone who studied Classics, it kinda hurt how often they conflated the Roman Empire with the Republic and Ancient Greece.
I agree
They're the same. Both white, pedophilc, and gay cultures
Roman Empire men don’t care about accurate history, they just want to have a statue profile pic and post on Twitter about how ancient cultures were superior to modern ones (only the white ones tho)
You know about one fallen empire, you know em all

as a woman who studies the roman empire for her degree, social media has been more than a little obnoxious lately lol. most of my professors who helped foster my love for ancient rome have been women and a good portion of the historians i've sourced for my papers have also been women. i'm convinced that people who think that ancient rome is a "guy thing" have no idea what the field of classics is actually like.
@@as-cf7rx it's hard out here for those of us in the humanities (or non-stem fields, as you said)!
Agree, I've found it hard to believe people would be surprised that there is interest in a centuries spanning empire which is still heavily influencing modern culture.
I live in an area with tons of remains of roman infrastructure and architecture. When I was a kid , I was fascinated by the mediaeval times, but as I got older and visited some of the Roman remains around here and realised how impressive the aqueducts are in person, seeing how insanely advanced their technology for heating and plumbing in the bathouses were , culminating in visiting Rome which was almost sensory overload to me - and then to think we went back to literally shit on the street a few hundred years later. I never got over of what we have missed. What if we just had been evolving from their point on? What if the empire never fell? I think about Roman empire a lot actually and not in a professional manner by any means. And I'm a woman. But tbf, I think being european and actually living so close to pieces of history might play a part

There was A Spartan that fought as a mercenary general against the Roman republic
imma be real I think this is just a perfect example of selection bias on social media
being interested in ancient empires/societies is not a rare thing, and this is just a case of people asking men this question and if the answer is favorable it goes viral on tiktok and if it's not it gets scrapped, making the illusion that *every* guy is interested in this
This is an exceptionally true take. Overwhelming majority of men nowadays wouldnt care or have the first clue.
It's probably the best example of survivorship bias I've ever seen. All men are literally being deemed part of this smaller surviving(uploaded) subset.
To me even if 10-20% of men think of it several times a week or even once a week it’s just crazy to me. Like for anyone to spontaneously think of the ancient times in their everyday life unless it’s related to their work: what, why, who’s brain works like that? My personal sample size was 2, an old friend who said he pretty much never does, and a date I went on who said he thinks of it like FIVE TIMES a week. I was floored 😂

I think it's something worth thinking about. It's such a great case study for what an effective government does and doesn't look like. Plus a large portion of Western human knowledge was recorded into Latin for centuries. Being able to access that history can inform us today how we should interact with society and the government for the better.
Idk about how effective it was for our purposes. It required a shit-ton of slavery for one thing
@@jordanetherington1922 so does our society, just because we don't call them "slaves" doesn't mean the poor being worked to death for extremely little pay isn't exploitation. As long as someone or something is in charge, there will be those on the other side who have to do the dirty work of society for little return.
The lack of leaders reduces oppression, but also decreases stability and direction. There's not a truly perfect option as there's always downsides to one or the other. Across history though, the larger a society becomes, the more necessary leaders become to maintain order and reduce anarchy and crime along with economic structures and supply chains for goods.
In the Roman empire itself, as it grew, the republic style government it was founded on struggled to effectively govern such a large area, which is why some were so in favor of having an emperor to act as a central point of vision and decision making for the big issues. Then we can look at the different emperors to see the consequences of having power invested into one man. Some were very competent and ran things well, but most were incompetent or too corrupt to guide things in a positive direction.
These things can guide us to figure out how much power our modern leaders should have or what kind of governmental structures are optimal for the size and economic development of a society.
