  • One thing is for sure....I will never overlook the value of a well built tub. I learned this the hard way with installing a DELTA tub in this home. Only lasted 4 years 😡 Now I'm tearing it out and starting all over again.....

About to start a small bathroom reno and gave my customer the list of recommended products to purchase. Among others Panasonic fan and studio tub. All thanks to your real life recommendations Steve. I am super curious what they will pick. Thanks for sharing! 👊👍💪

I installed that exact delta tub with the 3 piece surround a year ago for a client. I couldn't believe how flimsy the side skirt was even with the (bracket). Tightened my tub shoe like normal and it cracked immediately. Pay extra for a good quality tub, absolutely. I appreciate your videos big time and keep em coming my friend.

I asked delta what the definition of overtighten (was looking for a torque value) and they said tightening till tub cracks is over-tightening 😆

Delta was quality years ago. That's long gone. Moen isnt perfect, but their lifetime guarantee or parts availability makes it my choice for fixtures. Tub wise, I'd go Jacuzzi after seeing that. Thanks for sharing!

Do you have other brand recommendations? Jacuzzi doesn't make a 60x30 which is all that will fit in the space I have

We have a KOHLER soaker tub from Home Depot, what tub cleaner do you recommend, and which ones should be avoided?

I'm remodeling my bathroom now and was looking at a tub by Duravit. Do you know that brand? If so, are they ok?

I’m trying to figure out how the drain area cracked. Were you there to do a repair on the drain? Did you slightly crack the drain area when you installed it and the crack got worse over time.
Btw, I completely agree with your opinion on these tubs. I am unfortunately stuck with having to install two of these Delta tubs in a house remodel as we speak. My thoughts are the amount of give/flexibility on that drain whole should be about the same amount of flexibility on the schedule 40 drain therefore minimizing any hard stress to that area.
So basically, I’m trying to get more info on how/why your drain area cracked to try to prevent the same. Overall however, I think these Delta tubs should be avoided. The amount of flextion in these is not good for tile, caulked corners, etc.
Thanks for your feedback in advance. Love your channel.

Yes, that’s exactly it. I think I created a hairline crack when I first installed it 4 years ago. I’m currently building a basement bath below this bathroom. I think by disconnecting the piping to this finally got it to crack all the way through. Trying to evaluate issue by removing drain flange just made it 100 times worse
I would never ever try to remove a drain assembly off this kind of tub again! They recommend the use of dap 3.0 poly sealant to adhere the drain flange. I don’t see a scenario where you can ever remove it without chipping and ripping pieces of the drain with it
Be careful not to overtighten 👍 1/2 turn past hand tight

This is why you’re one of my favorite guys to follow. You’re a perfect combination of super knowledgeable, some tried and true old school roots, and still eager to keep up with what’s new. How you find time to do all these videos and still respond is amazing.
I still 100% agree with your opinions on these tubs. However, I’m finding a little more comfort in installing these two tubs knowing two things…
      1) That most likely the cause or time to failure can be extended by knowing the short comings of the product.
      2) In both of these installs we are using the matching pre made surround walls. So hopefully they 5-7 years out of this bathroom remodel. At that point if a replacement tub is needed, removing the pre made surround walls and tub won’t be as big of a job or as much or a waste of money.

These Delta tubs are going to be attractive to flippers/renos where the end goal is finances. I think I’ll proceed for people like this with the following guidelines….
      1) If you don’t like potential issues/calls from tenants, this isn’t the tub for you. If profit is more important and want to take the risk, fine we can proceed.
      2) Caution during installation knowing its shortcomings.
      3) Never install with custom tile. Always use matching pre-made surrounds so you can easily remove it all and minimize losses if and when it fails
      4) Try to refrain from installing on second floors and above, as any potential issues would now include repairs to living spaces below. 1st floors are ok since most of the time the basement will be either unfinished or drop ceiling.

Delta shower bases are almost as bad. Saran Wrap over black foam.

the extra money is nothing compared to tearing the whole bathroom down and redoing it. I just watched the installation video for the jacuzzi and it seems you'll have to redo the floor as well.

American bath tubs don't make any sense - why are they so small? You can't stretch out. 1700mm, 1800mm and 1900mm length are standard sizes in Europe.
