There is a level of workmanship & craftsmanship in these cars that you will not find in a modern vehicle. In fact there is nothing built today that could equal these cars. Basically we have a computor on four wheels with a ton of things that can go wrong. It truly was a golden age when GM built real cars.

Gorgeous cars, from a period when American style, engineering and quality equalled or surpassed anywhere else in the world. The big downside of these cars today is the horrendous gas mileage. These cars were designed when gas was very cheap compared to today. Driving one any distance is impractical as it would be cheaper to fly. I owned a 1966 Coupe De Ville, it got 9 mpg.

My '57 DeVille that I had in the 80s got 12 in town and 16 on the road. They were geared fairly high so the engines didn't turn that high of rpms. My '73 with the 472 got about 9.

We just called them pink Cadillacs with that color of paint job when I was younger. The color was popular from 1956 to 1958 until it started losing some favor in 1959. Personally I liked the '57 better but like the '58s better than the '59s. Most of the 58s I've seen were the long deck.
    $6179 in 1958 is $61,100 in 2022 dollars.

Back in the early 2000’s I drove a pristine’96 Fleetwood Brougham. The state we lived in had yearly emission testing. One year the guy spent 15 minutes arguing with me about what the car was. He insisted that the only “Fleetwood “ was a camping trailer! Sign of the times I guess. Now most of the cars are named alphabet/numerical soup…. Would love to own a ‘57 or ‘58 Fleetwood. And I DON’T mean a trailer!

I remember 58 Fleetwood 60 Specials when they were new. You didn't see many of them around even back then, but I always liked them. It was a rare treat to have a sighting even in 1958. I thought 1959 was the first year for power door locks. Thanks for the information. I learned something today. It's too bad to send it out of the country. That car belongs here.

I've seen that expressed before, and I must reply...
First, Cadillacs in America--even nice old ones sometimes--are routinely destroyed in movies and TV ads. Countless more have been derbied or junked for their engines. These things don't happen to them elsewhere.
Second, if we're going to start applying this nationalist mentality to the car scene, we might as well give Italy back "their" Ferraris and England "their" Rolls-Royces.
Finally, how can we call Cadillac "Standard Of the World" if none of them ever leave the US?

David. I have my parents 58 Cadillac that they bought in 1960. I was 1 year old, lifelong southern California car. My mom signed it over to me in 1982. I still drive it around town, and to car shows. She's 61 years old now, I'm 60. We are growing old together lol. My dad didn't stop driving till he was 94. Wouldn't it be a hoot if I can still be driving this car when its 90 + years old!! Only time will tell. I'm glad you have good memories of your time with yours. Ever thought about buying one now? Wow REAL Cadillacs, unlike today's cars that all look the same. Sadly Cadillacs generally all look the same today, current Cadillacs look pretty well non-descript and not that much different from a variety of foreign makes. And the Color selection, amazing, again unlike today's basic 5 colors offered by all manufacturers. Re: the town and number of cars, sounds like someone in the neighbourhood is jealous?

My folks had a '57 Caddy - I don't recall what model, but the paint was the same as the "60 Special" shown. I probably drove it - first licensed (at 16) in 1972, but we used to always buy used Caddy's, and keep 'em for a few years, usually when the transmissions popped. We had a huge '56, the '57 or '58 I referred to here, a '60 or '61 (almost no tailfins, round taillights), and a few more. Mom & dad bought the one I normally drive in late '98 or early '99 ('98 DeVille D'Elegance) - inherited it from my mom when she passed in 2012. I gave my wife my '99 Lincoln Town Car, but it's on it's way out, and the wife is again trying to put a lot of mileage on the Caddy.
Great video, btw. Brings back a few memories....

Me Too-- But if a collector car is for sale and it is fairly priced, will you buy it? I think it is great if the cars go to a good caretaker, no matter where they are. Also, consider the cost to send a car across the U.S. can be a few thousand for enclosed transport. To send one to Europe is a little less than that. I recently sent a 3-car container to Europe and the invoice is $2900. THREE CARS, $1000 each! AND Yes, I have brought car BACK from Europe as well. Not a problem at all to share the cars with proper caretakers all over the world.
