For me, it doesn't represent current British music. Sure, people are linking it to those artists you've mentioned, but they were big stars decades ago. This label have produced Dua Lupa, if I'm not wrong, and that was where the rumours of something really good started. Feels to me like we've gone too classic when we could have gone super current and edgy. Just how I feel, of course I want us to do well but this was literally the first time we heard it! I would love to be on the verge of us taking the contest seriously again!

@@ToyAndGoy if you think about Eurovision more in terms of 'world music',.. ethnic beats, musical styles, cultural influences...this song definitely fits the bill. By comparison, look at Ukraine's 'Stefania.' It gives us traditional folk and dance, infused with a modern sound, and we love it. But if you listen to Ukraine's Top 40, you'll hear the songs played are all westernized, Ukrainian hip-hop, rap and pop knock-offs. ' This year the UK sent a song which reminds us that it is responsible for giving our world the greatest music in modern history- Beatles, Bowie, Freddie...the list goes on. ' Its sound, its vocals, its composition are all distinctively British, and influenced by greatness. That it doesn't sound like whatever current trend of music is playing on pop radio doesn't bother me a bit. It's like complaining that my steak doesn't taste like McDonald's.

@EURO VIZ USA YAY that's a very fair point. And, if that does speak to Europe and this song does well, then of course that's a good thing! This was just our first listen, and when the label that produced this were announced to be behind us (who worked with Dua Lupa, if I'm not wrong) I was very hopeful for something very edgy and very modern. As we said, we don't hate it at all, but I just want to feel like we are really playing for the win. Maybe a few more listens will change our minds!

The problem is that whilst it takes influence from Elton, Bowie, Queen and ELO, it's too repetitive and a poorer derivitive of those influences - if you're going to be influenced by past genres of British music, it can be pulled off better than this. Alternatively, TAP could have tried to represent the current British music scene, which I'll be honest, is difficult seeing as it's currently a hot mess of mostly old influences, grime and Ed Sheeran dull balladeering fodder. Something like a Charlie XCX, pin sharp pop dance number would have been good, which is why it's such a shame Claudia Valentina wasn't picked.
I like Sam though - he seems a really nice guy with a top notch voice and charisma far bigger than the song deserves. Why people are gushing over this song is beyond me.

We’re usually jealous of other countries because so many put out these amazing songs and we never seem to try. Sam has a fantastic voice, a beautiful human being and the song is very catchy and vocals clear which is important for Europeans to understand - the song has open meaning and to me it´s about depression a person that´s been searching for answers- in a dark place - been down a few blackholes & looking down on the world but in the end wants to come home to conquer his demons- human after all. With all the shit going on in the world quite relevant! The genre crosses 60´s 70´s 90´s Beatles, David Bowie, ELO, Coldplay esk - it is modern -he´s got a massive following on Tik Tok and genres are cyclical aka Manaskin bringing back Glam rock - let´s get rid of electronic synthesised & synthetic music and get back to talented musicians and songwriters! Listen to it a few times and you´ll get hooked ! Let´s hope he maximises his stage appeal - I guess he will get a few votes from the Scandinavians....

It's almost like groundhog day with the UK every year. Brits say every year 'this is our best entry in years' and then struggle to make it higher than 20th. If he sings live well as much as he does on record then the juries should give some points. But the song itself is just a bit meh and that doesn't mean points

This isn't the full finalised version yet of the uk entry as it needs to be chopped for the contest anyway so there could be a revamp of the instrumental and lyrics to make it a bit punchier for Turin. But, I do like the hipster-indie vibe has, akin to the likes of James Bay and George Ezra.
Given all the songs this year this leaps out substantially, you have so many pretty boy balladiers this year and they all sort of meld into one big blob of whining and whinging.
But, Space Man has much more going for it and with more avenues for great staging. Don't be too quick to dismiss the staging potential just because the UK has had big issues in the past with staging TaP Management may have a good number of tricks up their sleeves. Who knows.
Space Man sits firmly in my Top 5 right now. I don't see any song pulling it away from that so I am very happy.
Keep up the good work guys it is very much appreciated.

I'm sorry lads, but I'm also going to have to totally disagree with you're criticism here. Not quite sure what you were both expecting.... maybe you were both expecting another non memerable song like last year (what was it called again and sung by)? which again bombed, but this time with...ZERO points 😎. This song FINALLY after so many years of questionable song entries is one of the BEST the UK has entered in a long time. Sam has brilliant vocals with a catchy vibe. Not just that it is very British in sound and also sounds mainstream very "Radio" playable which will get great traction.
You totally have missed the story of this video it's about depression and life in general just enjoy it, which I can see you both struggled with.
If we "Bomb" again this year then we know even Adel wouldn't win in the Eurovision. I personally think Ukraine will be high up.or even a win .
