      Watch time. If u remember around like 2018 or 17 there was a lot of click bait or just dumb pranks that weren't funny because back then they got paid for every view not how it is now where u get paid as a creator depending on how much we watch so if I watch this vid for 2 mins instead of 5 he's not getting paid for the whole vid or something like that I'm still learning but that's what I understood so far its sucks but thats why

    I have a 1970 Nova SS I bought in May of 1972. It’s a survivor. I’m 72 and finally starting to work on it. Still has the original 350, 300 horse motor in it.

    I've got a 69 that I'm fixing up right now, My stepdad made it a drag car. We've just put some bucket seats in it, and we've got it started up for the 1st time in years. That sound never gets old. Cars don't sound like they used to. I'm 21 and hope to have this finished by the time I'm 23. I'm glad I found someone else who loves Novas just as much as I do.

    Another great video. Some additional information on #4:
    Like you said, all 1968-79 Nova rears interchange, but also 1967-69 Camaro/Firebird. With the exception that 1967 F-Bodies do not have staggered shocks.
    As for the 7.5” 10-bolt, that rear started in 1976 behind 6-cylinders as well as 305 V8’s. However, 1977-79 Novas only got the 7.5” with the 6-cylinder. Additionally, Novas with the 7.5” rear have a driveshaft that is 1” longer than Novas with the 8.5”. So when replacing a 7.5” you need to shorten the driveshaft or use the driveshaft from the Nova you got the 8.5” from.
    Lastly, all 1972 thru 1975 Novas have the 8.5” rear. It’s the only rear available so that’s the best place to look for one. They are every bit as strong as a 12-bolt. The strength of the 12-bolt is not from the larger ring gear (8.875” vs 8.2” or 8.5”), nor from the extra 2 bolts attaching the ring to the carrier. The strength is mainly from the larger pinion. The 8.2” 10 bolt has a 1.438” pinion while the 12-bolt and the 8.5” 10-bolt have a 1.625” pinion. Also similar is that the 12-bolt and 8.5” have the same larger bolts (.4375”) that attach the ring gear to the carrier. 8.2” rear have smaller bolts (.375”).
    12-bolts do have slightly thicker wall tubing. Also the axles are 30-spline for a 12-bolt while 8.5” are only 28-spline axles. But that’s easily changed in the aftermarket.

    Great video with lots of valuable information. I had a '68 Nova SS with a 350 4-speed when I was in high school. It was a rocket and I never lost a race with it. I still regret selling that car and I always look for it whenever I go back home to see if it's still around. Wish I could buy it back but I'm thinking it would go for more than the $600 bucks I sold it for in the late 1970's. The moral of this story is to NOT listen to your mother's demands that you sell your muscle car!

    First off, I love this channel. You are my go to for Nova information. I have a 74 SS and the guy I bought it from told me about the ss packages for the 74s. He told me that the SS package was a dealer ad on item and there wasn't anyway to prove this was an SS. So he said he was selling me a non SS car just as a disclaimer. I didn't mind because I wouldn't be able to bring myself to tear apart an original SS. Its a 2 door hatchback custom. I took the original running 350 out and stuck it under my bench, then put a 355 create engine, AFR heads, wild cam, 350 TH, 411 12 bolt posi rear, + Caltracs. She's a fun little ripper to play around in for sure. Thank you for the great content, its really helping me out with my build.

    • @M2fiftycal
      @M2fiftycal Před 6 měsíci +1

      The guy you bought it from told you some bad info. In 1974, 21,419 Novas left the factory with the RPO Z26 Super Sport package. It was NOT a dealer item. Tons of myths like this are repeated all the time, but that doesn't make them true.

    • @phantom21629
      @phantom21629 Před 6 měsíci

      @M2fiftycal not disputing those facts and there were only a little over 5000 of those that were hatchbacks. The PRO Z26 SS package was the factory ss but the dealer also sold an SS package in 73/74. Since the original suspension and wheels are long gone and without the build sheet, there isn't really a way to tell. I fully believe I have a "custom" and not an "SS," but the fact that you could get a dealer SS package in 74 is infact true. Like I said, with the original parts that remain, I'm positive this is a "custom"

    My dads old car was a 68 chevy nova, he said it was so slow when he first got it, so he put a 350 and gutted it out to make it run the drag. He was only 20 when he had it now he’s 53, and we are working on fixing it up. Recently we put a new brake system, new wire harness, fuel cell etc. Soon we are taking it to the upholstery and body shop. We gutted out a old mobile in a junkyard and got new material used to remake everything.

    I use to have a 74 six hatchback model-loved that car! Was originally column shift, but the previous owner cut that off and it had a in floor Hurst 3 speed shifter, Crager SS's and air shocks. It was hard to shift into 2nd and I disassembled the trans and couldn't get the speed ring, so I swapped the 3rd speed ring. Later I put a Vega 4 speed with Vega shifter-Excellent swap! But not an overdrive, was geared low. No AC or power anything and wife could not drive it, so I sold it many years ago.

    I have a 70 that came from Willow Run Assembly in Feb 70, V8, 4 speed floor mount, front disc brakes. I do not have the original motor, but was told there are 2 sure fire ways to tell if it was built as an SS. First, only SS's had a fuel return line from the fuel pump back to the fuel tank. Second, on the driver side behind the rear tire, u will see where the factory welded a bracket for the dual exhaust, which was SS only. What say you?

    You mentioned that the rear is ‘offset to the passenger side. Dose that mean you run the risk of rubbing on the fender well on the drivers side?.. I’ve got a 74 that rubs on the drivers side and was wondering why it does that. I thought maybe the previous owner had put in a different rear that sits off to the other side

Open the door just far enough to clear everything. Go slow! Keep checking! If you get it too high just hang on the door. They are not that hard to move.

    With the hinges, was it just the top hinge? Or both hinges? I ask because I heard the top hinge was welded, and that was so the door could be hung faster, then the bottom hinge could be installed and then it would be ready for what passed as aligned.

    You just helped me confirm my car is a true 72 SS that is also a 22000 mile car that had to be restored because sitting under a pine tree for 12 years. If I'm switching my wheels to a 15" rims how wide can I go and tall without modifying and any rubbing?. Also it appears the the existing rims 14" have 7 width or the rear and 6" on the front. Why did they do that?

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  Před 2 lety

      Awesome! I would love to have an original SS. Not sure why the fronts are different. I would have thought they would be same. As far as putting 15” wheels on, on front you might be able to get 235/60/15 depending on wheel back spacing. For the rear, you can get 275/60/15 if you use a 15X8 with 5” or 5.5” back spacing. Might have to run a spacer. All cars are a little different.
