At least this guy listened to the greatest advice the judge can legally offer.
I've only needed a lawyer once. I obtained one at a neighborhood law clinic for low income people, like myself. I thought she should be more aggressive and assertive. The other side had a loud, brash attorney. Turns out I was wrong. My calm, soft spoken attorney won the day.
Shockingly, it's their job. They know more than you do in that area. They do it every day. Good for you for learning from it. Some people can't understand that, it hurts their ego too much. It's not an insult against the client to say that they don't know the law as well as a lawyer. Just like the lawyer doesn't know their job as well as they do. Some people just cannot handle it.
I absolutely love how Judge Simpson handled the second defendant. He swore at the court and behaved terribly, judge Simpson immediately found him in contempt and gave him 30 days. But we also heard judge Simpson say “we may bring him back later.” That suggests he’s going to give the defendant an opportunity to cure his contempt, which is proper and will ultimately save resources if he’s able to improve his behavior. But he didn’t tolerate a bunch of BS before putting a stop to it. Well done as always from judge Simpson
