    I can't stop on a walk for like 1 min without a bunch of whining. I can't stop to talk to anyone, nothing without my dog acting like he's dieing. I feel like this works but also doesn't.

      @@tomdavisofficial I think they mean that it works, but they aren't sure how they can lengthen the duration the dog can tolerate being still before whining. E.g. dog whines after 30sec and moving works, but I'd like to progress to being able to talk to my neighbor for 2min without whining, how does someone get there? :)

      For us , there are two strategies that work. My GSDs whining (there are various scales in intensity) when she's bored got worse because of my attention for it (saying leave it, eye contact, myself getting restless...) On the walk I make structured pauses , where we both sit and watch , wait , until she calmes herself (minimal radius) and the whining gets no attention. It became better and better in different situations. When the whining comes out of stress (f.e. in dog school, to many dogs around and has to wait, crowded place) we make the same as Tom describes so she can work off the stress by movement. You have to be patient, we worked for some months and still have to go on. She's 18 months old

      Move a little bit, you don’t have to keep walking- that rewards the whining.

      @@Maria-lx4yt mine is 3years old lab,still winning when I just stepped out of building for walk him.Movement make it worse,and stand still also.He will start ‘cry-barking’(thats what I called it,its like I was stabbing him or torturing him)Mann it get worse when there is dog park and dogs are playing.screaming not bark,I can’t describe it. But yeah,after 3 years nothing helped. Only if I was quickly moving back and force,turning like each seconds,he can stop.But if I back to normal,sounds from hell starts again. I can’t just walking like that when there is people nearby or in lil bit distance.Place he won’t whining:wild and no-human&animal zone.He will whine but it can be stopped. I don’t know what to do. I’m so stressed, I can make it peace when I walk him out,and just ignore the whining.But its not the solution.

    I have watched your videos for months I work with dogs and I must say the insight you have provided me when I see dogs everyday is insane. I rescued my 1-2 year old GSD and she is perfect I’ve implemented so many of your trainings into our daily routines and it helped make adjustments that bettered both of our lives

    This isn't realistic for dogs that literally whine constantly like mine. It doesn't matter what we're doing. We could be out on an actual walk and if we stop for two seconds for his sister to pee, he's fucking whining again. He's done it since he was born and it's finally wearing on me 3.5 years later. I swear it's getting worse as he gets older too.

  • @Blitz0909
    @Blitz0909 Pƙed rokem +7

    Hmm this seems like it would reinforce the whining by giving them an out, idk if this is the right move. You need to teach them how to self-soothe by working it.
    We would do behavioral downs where we would just wait until the dog stopped whining before giving verbal praise and moving forward. In the beginning, this would sometimes take 30-45 minutes, but after a month of working it he would transition to a calm pant within 15 seconds.
    You do have to train it in some different environments though so that they can learn to calm themselves wherever you go

    • @ashj0
      @ashj0 Pƙed 11 měsĂci +1

      Thank you. This is a way more logical solution. And also reassuring to see that it can sometimes take 30-45 mins in some cases because I've literally had to make my dog wait 30 mins to eat before he stops whining like he's dying. Nothing has worked. Literally nothing and I've tried EVERYTHING! I will continue making him wait it out even if it takes a long time. He seems to be getting worse as he gets older. He's also intact. Will getting him fixed help at all?

    A question I imagine will unfortunately be ignored:: I have two purebred German Shepherd dogs that are literally cannibals. They killed two of my other adult dogs, dogs they'd been ok with for a year, and then they are them. One of the large dogs they killed and partially ate that Thus far have not dug him up and ate his remains further since I buried him. The other dog they killed -- another GSD, they literally dug her body up and ate most of it last night. What would cause this??? Sincerely, they are free fed and have tons of dog food. They have a large fenced property to run on. Btw when my cannibals we're attacking in both cases it was when I was not home. I returned during the second attack and the two stopped immediately when I verbally commanded them too but it was too late to save their victim.

well after he can’t see them he will stop,not that bad I think.

      if u condition them to the muzzle properly then it doesn’t bother them nearly as much as u might think. my dog needed a muzzle for the first several months of training due to reactivity, i had to reintroduce it to him in a positive way because his previous owner used it as a punishment which isn’t how u use a muzzle. once i showed him it wasn’t a bad thing and that he did nothing wrong, he was totally okay with it. he no longer needs it and hasn’t for a while. if u don’t know what ur talking about, don’t say anything cause ur spreading misinformation and just adding to the negative outlook on things such as muzzles. have a good day
