2021 Yamaha MT-07 a Short Rider’s First Impressions

  • I bought a brand new 2021 Yamaha MT-07 and here are my first impressions from the perspective of a mature short rider. The most interesting things about this motorcycle are its new headlight design, and the dash. The new LED projector headlight was a concern because of the small diameter might make it less visible to other drivers but it doesn’t appear to be a problem so far. Then there is the new styling. I don’t hate it, but I wish they designed it a little better. This design will take some getting used to for me at least. I know you guys have your own opinions about this new headlight so let me know in the comments section. Then there is the ignition which is now behind the dash. I don’t mind the new location of the ignition switch, but the dash’s new location seems a bit too low. I found that I had to move my head down further than normal to read the dash.

    The salesman is very professional, all praise for him, I unfortunately did not have such detailed instructions when taking over my mt07.
    As for driving on the highway all over 130kmh is very inconvenient, I have a feeling that the wind will lift me off the bike. Im 182cm tall. The speedometer was set low I had a situation where the driver in front of me braked and I was looking at the information on the screen luckily the speed was low and I stopped on time. I am generally satisfied with the bike but a lot of smal details could have been done better.

    I agree that the speedo screen is way to low. It could actually be a safety concern. I was very skeptical of the look of the head light at first but it is growing on me. I never see it anyway will riding. I've been riding for over 40 years, so I'm very experienced. I also have a 29" inseam. The MT07 is close in seat hight as was my 09 Street Triple. I thought that I was getting too old, at 67, for the power of the Street Triple so I bought a Triumph Bonneville. Loved that bike but I sold it after 8 years of riding it. I missed the feeling of torque and that is why I decided on the MT07. It doesn't disappoint. I can see me riding it for a long time. I also have a 2017 Street Glide, a 2018 Iron 1200, and a 2015 XT250. My stable is complete now.

    I 've had my '22 MT07 for 3 months now, I am 5' 6" with a 29" inseam, also a short rider. I love this bike, I transitioned over from a Harley softtail and I love the sporty ride.
    The riding position is amazing however I wish I could adjust the pegs a bit, they are right where I need to put my feet down when stopping and I have almost dropped the bike too many times to count because the whole tippy toe thing just isn't cutting it. I'm not a fan of the key placement but it's not the end of the world, otherwise I love the bike, it's so much fun to ride!!!

    I’m 5’7 with a 30” inseam and I rode a cruiser for about 2 years. This bike feels just a bit tall (I can put the balls of my feet on the ground, not my whole foot like I’m used to) Do you get used to only having tip toes on the ground? Does it feel like you have less control over it while stopped at lights or parking lots?

    You don't need to keep it under 6,000 rpm during the break-in. Just don't rev it above red line. On highway on-ramps, accelerate up to red line, gear up, accelerate to red line, gear up, and so on. Vary the speed and gear during break-in. For upgrades, the most practical ones are a windscreen and steel-braided brake lines. Anything else is unnecessary but fun to do.

    I have a lot of bikes my son in the states I just got him the new MT07 he does not know, which I'm going to break in. Some tips before you go try to warm your bike up. Get a quality disc alarm lock and a quality lock that you can put on your handle bar brake. It covers your brake lever and grip. Good to take with you if your making stops and leaving your bike alone for a while that will help stop dishonest people, the disc alarm is very loud if the bike is bumped it goes off, the brake handle locks your front brakes which makes it very hard to move. I do oil every 2000 miles filter every second change. Learn to do the oil change and the chain. At least get a rear stand for the chain. To me the Yamaha 600 mile first oil change is a lot of wasted money if the bike running good do the above your self and save a lot of money. They basicly change the oil check the chain maybe check some bolts. I recommend some injector cleaner every 4 tanks just a little. I also use 91 and a little octatane booster, the gas is usually junk so it helps. In joy and ride safe and stay safe.

      Not good advice. You need the dealer service stamp otherwise your 2 year warranty on your brand new bike is void after 600m - not a good idea to do it yourself until your warranty period is over.

    • @jaybosher6144
      @jaybosher6144 Před 2 lety +1

      all this info is bs. you definitely don't need to change the oil that much. and you don't need or want to put 91 into a bike tuned for 87. higher octane fuel prevents ignition so your not helping a bike that isn't high strung like this. I've read posts where high octane fuel in bike that don't need it have cause them to run hotter than usual although idk if that's true personally.
      listen to what the manufacturers have stated. your not going to do better than what they said to

    U.K. owner of a blue one.
    Get the Yamaha sports screen. Looks much nicer. Has the MT-07 logo on it. Does nothing for wind but looks cool.
    The original chain is made from cheese 🧀 it rusts easily - as does random parts of the rear swingarm and the pipes on the lower right of the engine have a poor finish too.
    The indicators are easily knocked off and fiddly to put back on.
    The headlamp is weak, try a Duke - not much you can do about this though.
