  • As requested by members of the Facebook community "DIY Candle Making Beginner to Advanced", I decided to film my new technique for achieving smooth, glossy tops, great glass adhesion with ZERO wet spots or air bubbles, and a consistently attractive candle every single time!

    For your reference, I use IGI 6006 Parasoy wax, 8 oz. Jelly Jars, ECO 8 wicks, and Fragrance Oil which can all be found on Candlescience.com. Results may vary based on a number of factors, so be sure to adjust the steps accordingly for your specific type of wax and FO!
    Here are the steps in bulleted form:
    1. Place double layer foil onto the table/pouring surface;
    2) Wrap your vessel in 1 layer of foil;
    3) Preheat the jars with your heat gun;
    4) Heat wax to 195 (using a pesto pot), put into pouring pitcher;
    5) Add FO at 175;
    6)Stir for 2 minutes;
    7)Let sit for 30 seconds;
    8) Smack your pouring pitcher with a butter knife where the wax is filled to in order to pop bubbles and release any trapped air; then pour immediately.
    9) Right as the wax begins to become cloudy and builds a film on top, hit each jar for 5 seconds around the wick with the heat gun;
    10)Remove foil once candle has hardened and cooled;
    11)Trim wick, cap it, put candles in the original box, and let them cure.
    Thanks for reading/watching/listening! Please let me know what you think of this method, and how it works out for you!

    Just wanted to say thank you! Using foil around the candles totally works - it keeps them from cooling off too quickly and thus forming sinkholes near the wick. I will also add this idea: be sure to use the shiny side of the tin foil against the surface of the candle. This will do an even better job of maintaining the candle's warmth for a longer period of time. You may have already mentioned this, but if you did, I missed it. :) I'm also glad that you mentioned the proper temperatures for adding the fragrance oil and for pouring - that's helpful for newbies, too, because it makes a big difference. Anyway, thanks again!
