Hi! Thank you for this solutions to every beginner candlemakers like me! I love how straight to the problem and solution this video is! Very helpful! Thank you so much! Subscribing from the Philippines! ❤❤❤
thank you so much. This was extremely helpful and solved most of my problems in candlemaking! Kudos to you guys!
Thank you!
Do you have any info or point me in the right direction about how to create a "patina" or "aged" effect on wax candles?? Love your tips and tricks. Very helpful.
I’m having the biggest problem with tunneling and I’ve tried so many different wicks with my jar maybe I should try to double my wicks?
I had a question about your wick and wax. I was wondering If the wax that you sell I could use a different type of wick for the wax instead of the wooden stick and if if still will have a great hot and cold throw.
what is the difference between wick width and thickness? Is width the length of the wick you have before you burn it? (i.e. if I usually trim to 1/4 inch, then leave more than 1/4 to resolve tunnelling?
When I first started making candles, I had a huge problem with color! It was mostly keeping inaccurate records. I wouldn't keep track of how much colorant I used therefore couldn't recreate colors. Number two my wick wouldn't work properly. I was using to much color! For a long time I was frustrated and started keeping accurate records and changed to pastel colors and solved most if not all my issues. Occasionally I want a deeper color so in those cases I'll wick up to start with and that seems to help.
Hi, I just started making my own candles, but they won't burn nicely. The flame keeps flickering even though there is no draft or other air currents around the candle. I'm not sure what is causing it or how to fix this.
To avoid sinkholes, what temperature should I be pouring the wax? My room temperature is around 72 degrees.

Just wondering Charlotte - why would a candle stick collapse while burning - for example - not a container candle but a mould that’s been used to create a stick or something but when burning it the candle just collapses leaving wax puddle in dish as in more wax in dish than what’s burning……
I made the mistake of putting too small of wicks in tea light candles. How would I go about remelting them all and starting over with new wicks but use the same wax?
Any suggestions for tunnelling for soy wax making ?
Any tips ? I hate seeing this and especially not be burned equally as it continues... :/
Thanks in advance
The issue I'm having is that there are little specks of colorant at the bottom of my candles and wax melts. I heat the wax to the right temperature, I add the colorant and fragrance oil at the right temperature and I pour at the right temperature. I triple check I'm not adding too much fragrance oil too. I think it may be the fragrance oil attaching to the colorant and then it cooling too quickly. Thoughts?
Hello travis, can you point me in the direction to solve this problems, i wanna help my wife with this same problem, we also take it out broken most of the time, do you think it could be a wick too big? I notice the cracks always follow the wick, thanks
when you say smoking does that mean during the candle is lit or after you blow it out? i notice my candle lets out a decent amount of smoke when i blow it out, but it also leave some black residue around the rim of my jar... any tips?
The smoking we are referring to is when the candle is actually burning! If you have some black residue, you may want to test 1 wick size down!
Hello,
I appreciate your help. I'd like to ask one thing, I started to make candles with palm wax and it's realy hard and had cracks. I also used cajeput oil. Do you recommend me to use stearic acid? I'd be happy if you answer this.
Greetings from Portugal.
Hi there! Stearic acid is also very hard so this may not help. Crackling is common with palm since it is a hard, natural wax. You also want to be careful adding your own oils to the wax since they are not hydrogenated and can go bad (normally in about 12 months). Do you have access to any coconut, soy, or rapeseed wax in your area? This would help soften up your blend. You can also check out our waxes which we ship internationally.
@@makesyofficial Hi again. Thanks for the answer. I'll pay attention your advices. Yes' I also found biologic soy, rice, and coconut wax here in Portugal and also in Spain. I found parafine oil. But I have no idea how to use.
Alright, I suspected my wick to vessel ratio wasn’t right as mine are smoking like koorazy AND they are trimmed very tight to the wax line. I’m making Crisco candles. Trying various wick types to find what works best. Total crap shoot at this point but thanks for the tips.
Ah yes! Crisco and other fats will burn super quickly and super hot so you really don't need much wood material to get a good burn. We would recommend a single ply wooden wick or a cotton wick. You'll find the right one! It may just take you a bit more testing than you might have expected.
How to make candke more white and opaque
Hi!! I got excited and forgot to cure my candles and it now has tunneled. How could I fix this? Should I let it cure? Will my candle still have a scent? Should I melt the top of the candle to create a smooth finish?
The tunneling is not related to the cure time but is related to the wick size. The tunneling will also not effect the scent! To help smooth the top again you can heat gun the top however we recommend moving up wick sizes in width to alleviate the tunneling!
Are use soy wax and mostly regular wicks. Lately I’ve been having trouble with once the wax has melted all the way across the container it will cover my wick and the fire will go out. What causes this
OK contrary to my last comment to you, I am now thinking it could be that the wick is TOO short if it is getting drowned out!
Hi, I have an issue when I'm using multiple levels of different colors. Each Time I'm willing to add a level the wax keep showing scratchs.
My candles easily detach from the container and idk why does it happen... so can you suggest some of the steps that I should follow to avoid the above
Try pre-heating your vessel slightly & pouring at a lower temperature. That should do the trick!
Hi,
I have frosting problem when I use colors for my candles. I was wondering if you could help me to fix this problem.
Hi there! Please reach out to us at the below link with photos. Please include the type of wax you're using, percentage of FO, diameter of your vessel, and wick size.

I’ve just started marking scented candles at home. I made 5 small candles in 1 oz glass containers. I cannot smell the candles when lit. I poured 8% fragrance oil into my soy wax. Aside from I creasing my fragrance oil percentage, any other suggestions?
wick from the wick selection said i needed a .02 x .625 for a vessel with a inside diameter 3.05 in. having problem with getting a full melt pool vessel height just under 4 in wick height 3 don't know if i should to .03 thickness or go with a .02 x .75 THX
For the melt pool, I recommend going up in width so burn testing with the .02 x. 75" :)

What does it mean if your wick has a ball at the tip after burning and extinguishing?
Hi there! CARBON BUILD-UP (also known as Mushrooming) Is exactly that, the glop of carbon build-up on a wick. This happens with the candle is unable to burn fast enough to keep up with your chosen wick. Typically a wick that is too big causes more wax to be sent to the flame than it can handle.
I keep getting air bubbles on my torso moulds, and after a first use of a silicone mould tbey ain’t shiny anymore? Any tips?
My girl says its because u have to super clean the silicone m. before use it again, because wax stay on the walls and does this. Good luck!
My main problem is color... I'm doing candles with silicone molds and using powder color and it leaves a white powder-like residue I cannot avoid. Any tips on that? Maybe using liquid colours? Thx!
Got the same problem! We bought liquid ones. I’ll report back when theyre home.
Does anyone know how you can prevent a wax dripping mess when burning pillar candles? Do i make them with smaller wicks maybe? Or is it normal with these types of candles?
It's fairly normal for some drippage on pillar candles. However, by using a smaller wick you can avoid them from melting too quickly into a puddle!
What about when you pour the fragrance oil in the candle wax once the wax dries all of the oil is at the very bottom of the candle like it didn’t even absorb or mix with the wax at all?
This means that your mix and pour temp may have been off or you didn't mix long enough! Or you could have used too much fragrance for your wax type. We recommend a 8-12% fragrance load for most wax types but always check your wax to find our the fragrance load. Ensure you're mixing for at least 2 minutes and pouring at the appropriate mix and pour temps. You can remelt this candle in a double boiler and try re-mixing the wax and fragrance!
Hello, I have a question!
My candles keep cracking ... Is it maybe because of the temperature of the glass ???
Also what would be the perfect temperature to pour it ?
Yes Soy wax is so temperamental and I'm trying to avoid anything Paraffin.

That is called frosting! We recommend checking out our video here: czcams.com/video/Vrq9IRyD0tE/video.html
Big funnel shaped dip in the center around the wick when dried?
It sounds like you have a sink hole!
Hold a heat gun (a hair dryer also works) over the top of your candle to melt the surface. As the wax starts to melt, poke at the sinkhole with a chopstick (or a similarly shaped object) to determine the size of your sinkhole. Sometimes, what looks like a tiny hole can actually be a lot bigger under the surface. Puncture the wax to allow melted wax to fill the open cavity.
Once the cavity is filled and the surface of the candle wax is nice and flat again, allow your candle to cool back down to room temperature.
I use silicone molds with soy wax but it is frosting when I unmold it. How do I fix it?? What temperature should I pour? Help 😭
Soy is notorious for frosting but it typically does better pouring at lower temperatures (try 140F)!
Jump lines, finding it difficult to sort this one !!
This is when you can actually see lines going up the jar. Usually when you pour at to low a temp. and pour to slow.
What does it mean when after your candles has dried an the wax has a white ring around the outer edge of the candle darker then the center ?? I'm using soy wax
It's likely fragrance oil that was not mixed properly. Make sure you are mixing your melted wax and fragrance for at least 2 minutes to ensure the molecules have combined.
Hi does anyone know why do I keep getting air micro bubbles trapped into my candle? I don’t overmix the fragrance. Do you have any suggestions? I work with soy wax
Hi Daniela! Micro bubbles usually are a result of temperature. You can try lowering your mix and pour temp or gently tapping your pouring pitcher on a flat surface before pouring your candle.
Everytime I heat my glass before pouring the wax,my candles are all cracked. I've tried so many things to get a smooth candles , but no luck. I'm tempted to give up on this soy wax :((
Don't give up! Just start with lowering your pour temp. and only warm your jars slight ly with a heat gun before you pour. Then go up or down slightly if it isn't quite right. Be patient you will get it!

I can't believe I'm just seeing this video. I often have the wax pull away from the inside of cement vessels and just recently the wax pulled away on some ceramic vessels. It's never happened with the makesy Aura vessels - is it the material or is the temperature too hot or too cold? I'm confused now. I use the makesy wooden wicks and the makesy virgin coconut soy wax.
Great question! If the wax is pulling away it's cooling too fast - so likely you're pouring at too cool a temperature and your vessels are super cold. We'd recommend making sure your ambient room temp is at least 60 F and you can try gently passing over the vessels with a heat gun prior to pouring. Cement specifically holds the cold so those may be a little harder.
New to candle making - using 100% soy wax - have wavy lines across the surface of my candles and hairline/very small crack next to wick. Is this due to pouring at too high a temperature? Should I have heated the jars first?
That's a common characteristic of 100% soy wax! If you run a heat gun over the top of the candle it should fix the cracks and waviness!
My candles i make the wick wont burn and it makes a pool in the middle then goes out what am I doing wrong?
Hi there! It sounds like you're experiencing some tunneling here. This typically happens if the wick is too small. Check out our wick calculator for some suggestions on what size wick to use for your vessel. woodenwick.com/pages/wick-selection-guide
Mam.im.having a problem.that my candles having white Paches after setting, can u plz help me why it happen
Hi there! This is called Frosting. If this happens we suggest using a soy wax blend or pour the wax at the coolest temperature possible.
I got cracked surface and the wax around wick has just turned upward and make a very tiny cracky whole thing underneath
Can any help me figure out why some of the soy wax candles go up in flames out of a few hundred I would say maybe 15 of them did it,but I’m not sure why!!
Hmm, it could likely be due to the incorrect wick size or the fragrance not being mixed properly. If you reach out to our CX team they can help you troubleshoot! woodenwick.com/pages/contact-us

HI there! This usually happens if the wax has a high oil content or there was too much fragrance oil added.
@@makesyofficial I'll try putting less fragrance,is there something specific, like for example 2-3 drops or 4-5
My biggest trouble is my candles keep sinking after cooling. Is this because of the temperature I’m pouring them at??
Sinkholes can occur with any wax type, however they are most common with soy waxes. You can easily fix them by going over the candle with a heat gun!
100% soy wax, mine are smooth but after burn they solidify very ugly,
whitish and full of bubbles is this normal? thank you

Major issue i face is modeling to many snowflakes in my candles
Hi, I'm starving on my candle business. And i have paraffin wax, sent to me instead of soy wax, either way, I'm getting white spots once it gets hard.
What an I doing wrong putting at 180
Paraffin has a much different melt point than soy wax so make sure you reference the optimal mix and pour temp for your specific type.
Hey, could you help me out, I am a newbie of making candles (never made them) I recently bought a candle making kit from a company called Legacy Naturals Candle Making Kit off of amazon,,,,, i made 2 candles (was so excited)
First time I made 2 candles, I cut the wicks, I then lit them and they went out and I said OK I will remelt these again, so I remelt them, I didn't cut the wicks this time, I lit both of them (not at the same time) both of the wicks went down really really fast,,, one of them was lighting fine but it was making a tunnel and the other candle was making a tunnel and then went out on its own,,,,,can you help me please?
I was saying to myself,,, they gave the wrong size wicks in this kit.
If you want, you can have a look on CZcams for that kit, it's one for 37.50
Change your wick to a size or two. Tunneling and wicks going out is a sign that your wicks are too small
@@babygunz0604 OK thank you,,,, the wicks that came with that kit was the only one I tried with that colour candle but since I got more wicks, I will try the newer wicks but I don't know if its the mica powder itself though.

My candles keep breaking every time I take them out the mold. Could someone please help on how I can stop this from happening

I always get holes where my wick is when making beeswax candles. It drives me crazy.
This is likely due to the wax cooling too fast :) try pouring at a lower temp and keeping the ambient room temp consistent if you're not already!
