      We go to our daughter’s house for Christmas because it’s easier than her hauling all the gifts to our house, so we don’t do much decorating. I, too, made a skirt decades ago (45 years). Maybe one of our children will want it. 🤔

      Make a smaller version and use it as a table topper. A dresden table topper tutorial can help with figuring out the assembly.

    I like that you teach people how to make their own pattern for the wedges. There is nothing wrong with Stitch in the Ditch, but there are certainly other quilting options that would work well with this project. If you plan to wash this skirt often, you might want some quilting "inside" the wedges, rather than just on the edges between the wedges.

    This is a great simple tree skirt. Thank you!
    Just to help others that may already have a ruler, it is a 22.5 degree dresden ruler. You can use it but extend the length of it by putting a long ruler on the edge to cut. If you do not make the pattern perfectly, it will be wavy & not flat. Might not matter on a tree skirt but just so you know.
    Another tip, I use a pinking shears to cut down the seams. No clipping needed.
    Love the wonderful simple patterns on this channel! Such a sweet lady!

      If you plan to make it smaller be sure to actually use her measurements for the larger one, then cut it to the length you want. You have to keep the same angle as she did or it won't work out to a circle. You can use a 22.5 degree dresden ruler and make it the length you want. She makes it look so fun & easy!

    Loved the tutorial! I’m going to make one! One thing I was going to suggest is not putting a split in your tree skirt because you can always put your tree skirt on before putting your tree into the tree stand. That way you can also use it as a spread for a table putting an arrangement of flowers or other centerpiece covering the hole in the center. Two uses!

    Thank you for this tutorial. I've spent the last couple of days trying to create my own template (using a protractor) and I think I was close, but I don't think it would have been perfect. So the measurements you've provided will bring it to perfection, I think. Mine was close to what you showed, but not quite right. Also, I like the simplicity of this one so that I don't have to bother with binding. Perhaps in the future I'll make some changes, but I'm running out of time! I love how thoroughly you explain things. You always leave me feeling confident I can do it without any frustration. Thanks, again!

    This is very cute, but it isn't working out for me. I have measure and remeasure my pattern and it is 1", at the top, 8.5" straight across at the bottom and 19" straight down the middle top to gentle curve. When laying it out on the back and batting, it doesn't lay flat unless I considerably overlap the two end piece. I have resewn all seams twice moving the needle to the left by 6 (about 6 thread widths). Still overlaps I'm either going to resew it at 3.8" seams or trim the two pieces around the opening by 1.75" at the bottom to just under .25" at top. I'm leaning towards the latter. Can you explain what I've done incorrectly?

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  Před rokem

      Hi Elissa. Did you add an extra 1/4" seam allowance to the pattern? If you did, that might be the problem. The pattern includes 1/4" seam allowance on all sides. It is hard for me to help without seeing it. I wish I could help. I hope you can get it solved. Have a very merry Christmas.😍

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  Před 8 měsíci

      Hi Christelle. It is hard for me to help when I can't see the whole skirt. How much is it overlapping? Did you add extra panels? Does the tree skirt lay flat? The pattern included the 1/4" wide seams. So it is not necessary to add the 1/4". You might have measured/drawn the pattern incorrectly? How big was your center hole cut - maybe it was cut too big? I am assuming that what you mean by "back panels" is where the opening is to wrap the skirt around the tree. Give me more information, and hopefully I can help. Thanks for watching💗and Merry Christmas😍

      Hi Kathy. Leave the width at the top the same. On each side of the pattern continue drawing the lines any length you like. You will notice as you lengthen the lines the distance between the 2 sides at the bottom will be wider. Hop this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍

    Cheryl when using a walking foot does the fabric still shift.? In this tree skirt project.?
    I'm presently sewing a quilt top layer flannel warm & natural batting backing flannel.
    And when sewing the layers together using a walking foot still shifts. I have adjusted my top tension, sticth length. And width of Stitch.and also pin the squares before quilting.
    What can I try to adjust this issue of a slight shift in fabric ?
    And will I have the same issue's with making this tree skirt?.

      Hi Marion. Flannel does stretch when sewing the pieces together. You can use a spray on quilting glue to hold the layers together (I have never used the spray glue). You could also use Mary Ellen's Best Press which is clear starch and sizing. This might keep the flannel from stretching. For the tree skirt I used 100% cotton quilting fabric and I did not have any problems with stretching/shifting when using the walking foot. Hope this info helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍

    So this is to hug the tree trunk? I've always used my skirts to try hugging the base that holds the tree which is humongous! (We buy real trees). I'm not sure the length of the blades would be long enough to drape down onto the base holder and then be enough for the floor draping. Could i make the blades longer? Oh but then it will not sit nicely on the 40" wof.... i will ponder this and maybe try your pattern. Tree skirts are expensive in stores btw....crazy expensive! I resorted to buying a cheap one at a dollar store and tossing it each year.

    Do you have the measurements for a 58 or 60 inch tree skirt? This skirt is very pretty and I feel confident as a mediocre seamstress.

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  Před rokem

      Hi Shanon. To make a 60" diameter tree skirt you will have to alter the pattern that you draw. Draw the pattern piece 10" longer. When drawing the 2 side lines make sure you continue drawing the lines at an angle. I hope I have explained this well. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍

      Hi Lila. The pattern in the tutorial included a 1/4" seam. If you added an additional 1/4" on each side of the pattern, that might be what is causing the pieces to not fit properly. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching💗 and happy sewing😍

    Dear Sherrill, I am making a tree skirt but I am having a problem. When I lay out the skirt to saw the fabric to the batting and backing all the pics are not laying out. In other words the first and last pieces are over lapping 😢. HELP.

      @TheSewingRoomChannel  Před rokem +1

      Hi Paula. The pattern that I laid out in the tutorial already includes a 1/4" seam allowance. So make sure you didn't add an additional 1/4" to the pattern piece. When you laid out the tree skirt were all the pieces stitched together or did you just lay them next to each other. If you didn't have the pieces stitched together, then both end pieces will overlap. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍

    How to determine what size of skirt you need? What should the diameter of the skirt be in reference to the diameter of the bottom of your Christmas tree?

    😖Ok, everything worked according to the directions with on exception; the split where the final two sections come together are overlapped substantially. My attempts to lay the project out fail when I try to butt those two pieces. I have the work laid out ready to cut but won't do it until I can know what went wrong and how to fix it. HELP

      @TheSewingRoomChannel  Před rokem

      Hi Carolyn. Don't panic. You should have 8 dark pieces and 8 light pieces. Make sure they were cut exactly the same, and that you used a 1/4" wide seam allowance. Let me know. I will try to help you as much as I can. 😍😀😊🙂

      😀Problem solved.
      It was actually me, Carolyn's husband Tom, who was making the tree skirt. I believe I figured out the problem although I don't understand how it could have happened. The final diameter of the skirt before cutting the edges or sewing the project was 40 inches. Your video stated the diameter should be 41 inches, a 1 inch difference. Not sure how that happened as I made the pattern exactly as described. The final pattern length made from cardboard was 19 inches, the 18.5 inches plus the 1/2 inch. I believe the final pattern length should have been 19.5 inches. This would have added an additional 1 inch to overall diameter or 41 inches as your video stated. The only fix without starting over was to split the difference between the panels at the skirt opening. That's what I did and finished the project. It really doesn't matter since that portion of the skirt is to the back of the tree and not really visible. It was an easy project with the exception of the problem encountered. I would attach a photo of the final tree to this reply if I new how. I will send an email with the photo..
      Thank you,
      Tom Baker
