    Pretty sure I just had a fabric tornado hit my sewing area! 😅 I picked up 6 grands from school today and this video pops up in notifications. Ari hits play and all of a sudden they all start yelling “yeah yeah we need to make these” next thing I know I have 6 littles picking out the fabric they want to use. They had a blast! Thanks Miss Erica for the perfect timing on an afternoon craft. All the kids went home proud as a peacock with their new star ornaments. Super fun and easy! That was the bomb digity. 🤗🤗

    Hello, this star is not from Scandinavia but from Germany. It's called "Fröbelstern". A man, Friedrich Fröbel, invented it. He is also known in the USA. His birthday, April 21st, is celebrated there as National Kindergarten Day. He developed these stars, which actually have 8 additional points and thus have a 3D shape, for kindergarten children to promote their cognitive skills. In fact, I once successfully made it with a school class (8 years old) out of strips of paper. It is very popular here in Germany, but only a few can fold it.

      You can read about him on Wikipedia

      Thanks for the information. My mother-in-law used to make the 3D version out of paper for her tree. Since she was Norwegian, I just assumed it was from Norway. I took one of hers apart once to find out how she did them. These cloth 2D ones are very pretty as well.

    You can use two sided craft paper as well. If you twist before tucking the point you will have 3D points. In the 50’s we made these bigger with paper, dipped in hot wax then glitter. They were hung from the gym ceiling with light shining on them for a Senior Prom. We didn’t have the things for crafting that are available now.
    Thank you for a jot down memory lane.❤

She made mistakes, which we all do, but it’s very hard when you’re teaching a technique. I went all the way through yours and was able to make my Star right along with you. You are a great teacher!!!! Thanks for your tutorial, I will definitely be subscribing to your tutorials! Looking forward to see what else you teach. This is such a fun star to make. I’ve made hundreds out of decorative card stock same measurements also smaller stars to match my larger paper stars. This year I’ve been making them out of jewel toned silky ribbon which is a bit of a challenge because they are so slippery to work with. Glue and my quilt clips are a must have for that project. They make nice hostess gifts or use as a place card at your holiday table make sure to let your guests know they may take their ornament with them or after dinner gather guest and ask guest to hang their ornament on your tree Happy holidays

  • @marytramp5678
    @marytramp5678 Před 10 měsíci +2

    very cute star and idea, I will definitely be making them. i think i will turn i into a sewing project though. i have a ton of jelly roll left overs. if i were to sew them together with a 1/2" seam and cut them to length i think that would make for a very interesting star with lots of colors! for those that want to skip the whole process of having to cut out the pieces of cloth to size, fold & press, repeat. you can simply buy 1" double ( that part is important double) folded bias tape. they have it at all fabric stores and in multiple colors, just not in the fun patterned ones.
    This may seem like i'm knit picking here, but i just want people new to sewing ( i know this is no sew project.) to know the difference. you kept saying to "press the cloth" when in fact you weren't pressing it you were ironing it. when you press something you press the iron down on an area lift it up and move it to another area. this is especially important when sewing bc if you iron you can stretch the material out and or out of shape.

    • @erica_arndt
      @erica_arndt  Před 10 měsíci

      Good point on the "press" vs. "iron", you are correct!

I think the children will catch on quickly. They are ages 5 3/4, 8 1/2, 10, and 11and the littlest one already sews a little with me on slow speed. Thank you for the tutorial.

    I am laughing at myself as I watch your video. A child’s craft and I’d need a child to keep reminding me of the next step. Very pretty!

    I tried watching several other videos on how to do these. 🤪Yours was the best by far - so easy to understand.

    I love the concept. Love the star. But for those of us who are slow PLEASE don’t speed up. I was fine until you sped up the camera and I kind of got lost. You are a great teacher. I hope I’m not the only slow person. Thank you. Happy holidays!
