I laughed when Vader was like âWe will destroy everything in our path until we find himâ and Palpatine just looked at him like âBro, calm downâ.
Palpatine was always scared of Vader. I definitely don't blame him
My bet is that Palpatine knew/sensed a conflict in Vader that also could be seen when he was talking with Obi-Wan. He just calculated that having Vader hanging around Kenobi for too long might open that wound and turn him back.
It was actually smart to forbid Vader to chase Obi-Wan.
@@azk9218 No he was just worried that Obi-Wan wouldn't spare him next time like he did twice before.
@@BlarghMeow btw is that actually ian mcbdhisywhe whatever his name is, playing as palp?
@@michaeldesanta317 yes it's ian michael morbius reprising his role
I liked how each time Vader/Anakin was talking, it changed voice depending on what was being spoken.
Also, the lightsabers shined Blue on Vader/Anakin while he was saying about How Kenobi didn't kill him and reminiscing. But once he finally embraced the Vader side, the lightsaber shined Red on him. Nice little detail
Yes it was a great symbolism
Also we can see that at first it's Anakin's eyes, slowly turning more and more sith eyes as the scene progresses
@@raestlin86 yesss, my friend pointed out that his sith eyes aren't as prominent. Very good detail all over imo
@@raestlin86 yep i noticed and watched it over

I love how the "Hello there" was not forced in the script, it came out amazing
Ahahah
You seriously should've put /s after your comment. No one is gonna figure out it was a sarcasm. Knowing the traditional audience of this absolute trash..
How was this one not forced?
When he said: âI will do what I mustâ and went into the clone wars stance, it brought all types of emotions.
i recognised that stance instantly from the start of his duel with grievous - "your move"
@Angelo Bruno must have tugged on a heartstring there sorry pal
I will do what I must ....and walk away letting you live.
@@johnblack8872 would you really rather obi wan stand by his word that you're obsessed with for some reason than not have the entirety of the original trilogy??
@@ethancouldridge8960 The problem here brother is, that there shouldn't be this scene at all, cuz it doesn't make sense. Obi-Wan not killing Vader, especially after he acknowledges that hios friend Anakin is already dead, it's completely out of logic. Now Leia can thanks Kenobi for not killing Vader which will lead to destroying of her whole home planet.
I really love how Anakin used the last shred of himself to basically tell Obi-Wan that it wasn't his fault.
The blue light shining on his face as he says it was a great touch.
And as his face turned red when Vader took over was amazing
That was an Amazing touch, that scene was Very Emotional for Me
I can still remember vaguely the first time watching Revenge of the Sith and it hit me right in those same feels!
It reminded me a little bit of the moment Vader told Luke "It is too late for me, son". Like he's still as evil as anything, but that good part of him is just slightly showing
Yeye
In Kenobi: âYou didnât kill Anakin; I didâ
In a new hope: âVader betrayed and murdered your fatherâ
It all makes sense
Itâs like poetry. They rhyme.
Yes, one of many quotes that now make more sense. "He's more machine than man, twisted and evil" also makes more sense. I mean, how Kenobi would know this in the first place if he wouldn't meet him? From "TV"? Also, he saw that insane smile Vader made when he talked about killing Anakin Skywalker.
"Obi-Wan once thought as you do"
good that you noticed that
Obi-Wan=âGoodbye Darth.â
Obi-Wan=âYou canât win Darth.â
"You didn't kill Anakin. I did."
Not only is that a great line, but it's also a much better explanation for the plot hole about Vader's identity in the original trilogy. Rather than them very awkwardly justifying it after the plot twist and making it clear that Vader being Luke's dad wasn't the original intention, Vader just drops the line right here, and Obi-Wan works backwards from it when he's giving Luke the Jedi history crash course.
sorry how the fuck is vader's identity a plot hole? that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
the only thing I can think for you to tell me is that it makes Obi-Wan a liar. well, yeah. he fuckin lied. why would he tell Luke that? he also told Leia he didn't know her parents initially.
unless you magically pull some insane big brain shit, this might be the dumbest comment I've read.
Lucas did fix it in RotS actually. Yoda said to Obi-Wan in the Jedi temple something like "the boy you trained is gone. Replaced by this Darth Vader"
But yes, I think this line being said directly by Vader to him does make it even better
I never had an issue with the original trilogy or Obi Wan telling Luke that Vader killed his father.
It matches Obi Wan's character, to tell people things from a certain point of view.
It makes much more sense for Kenobi to tell a young Luke that his father is dead, rather than letting him know the genocidal maniac that is Vader is his father.
It wasnât a plot hole at all. It made perfect sense.
It makes no sense at all in fact it only deepens the fatal flaw which is the series.
"I've been waiting for you, Obi-Wan. We meet again, at last. The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner. Now, I am the master."
Enjoy it by all means but the series has too many fatal flaws. Either the original trilogy is canon or this, not both.
Vader saying that he killed Anakin seemed to me like he was consoling Obi-wan in a way. It was so damn emotional. Didn't particularly love the previous episodes but this one was beyond amazing. They even fixed some plotholes with characters seeing each other and then behaving differently in the original trilogy.
Except in A New Hope, Leia didnât seem overly upset about OBKâs death.
I don't think he was comforting Obi-Wan, I interpreted more as him wanting the glory, like "you didn't do this, it was all me".
@@Anthropophagus true that most people see it this way and it probably is the right way to see this, he definitely completely switches back to evil, but that was my first feeling and I like it that way :-D

2:50 "So did you train the boy?" honestly killed me đ
Obi wan: well uhhh......
Nice touch, but the whole point to speak with a force ghost was to get advice. They are aware of what is going on in the universe because they have become one with it. So that question didn't even need to be asked.
Well, he fought in more battles than most Jedi combined. He seduced a woman 10 years older than himself before he entered puberty. He had kids. And he fought more Sith than you could imagine. And he did it all in less than ten years. He broke more rules than we probably want to mention here. Did I train him? Probably too well. He followed right into your legacy.

Thrawn was used in Rebels, but he is from several other stories in Star Wars predating Rebels. Rebels isn't cannon, get over it. Why else would they end the show with Deus Ex Machina Space Whales and have Darth Maul die of a broken heart? If they leave that in the cannon of star wars, to quote Obi Wan: "then star wars is truly dead".
@@SeanUCF and maul didnt die of a broke heart, he took a lightsaber to the chest again. If you think his death is bullshit because it was based off emotions, you must think his survival is bulkshit because it's based off emotions
"Its like poetry it rhymes - George Lucas" The Kenobi and Vader fight is so similar from Vader's duel with Ahsoka in rebels, from the "Then you will die." up to Vader's face being exposed. It truly does rhyme.
Me watching it last night going Dave no you can't keep getting away with this.
As I'm sure you're aware, that quote from GL was in reference to Ep.1. where the Young Anakin destroys the droid control ship, events that 'rhyme' with Young Luke's destruction of the 1st Death Star in Ep 4.
The *exact same* events playing out between Vader & Ahsoka, and Vader & Obi-Wan is NOT rhyming; it's copying.
Moreover that quote of GL is typically used to mock Episode 1, in particular the 'yes men' culture that developed around Lucas; with nobody willing to question his bad ideas.
Using it as some kind of endorsement of the garbage that Disney is churning out shows a perverse lack of understanding.

My favorite part is when Obi Wan said "Hello there" to Luke and I've been waiting for that moment for a long time
Luke : "Ben Kenobi"
He shall tell the tale of the master of getting caught.
Also this moment make me cry. I love this episode.
I literally said it out loud when he stood there in front of Luke haha
Wow that was your favorite part??
The open helmet scene is extremely powerful, its actually more powerful than the open helmet scene in rebels, because this time we actually get dialogue instead of "ahsoka and anakin stare at each other for a few seconds and cool music plays"
I love the way obi-wan gains all of his force ability back through his love for leia and duty to luke. Very interesting to know that a jedi or well trained force user's abilities can be forgotten, especially when your mind and thoughts are not clear, like obi wan at the start of the show. He gets even more clarity because he is finally able to make peace with what he did to anakin.
I noticed that by letting go of his guilt over Anakin and realizing that training Luke and other things could wait, all these burdens were lifted from his shoulders. As soon as he decided he could leave Luke alone for a while and not focus solely on his training, then Qui-Gon appeared as his mind was open and ready. Throughout the show, characters have commented about Obi-Wan needing to let go, or not let the past hold him back, and this episode realized that and executed it quite well, in my opinion.
Ahsoka and anakin do talk when they face each other
The whole show is about how to live with trauma. Obi Wan drowns in it until he learns how to move past it. Vader wears it like a shield so he cannot be hurt by it again (think of when he smiles as he says he killed Anakin). Reva is almost consumed by it until she sees she's continuing her trauma onto another.
The show wasn't perfect but I really liked it. I think they did a great job overall.
@@zachj7953 hmm, Disney are heavily leaning into "exploring-trauma-through-superhero-action" lately. Kenobi, Wandavision and Moon Knight together are like a course how to accept trauma, deal with it, and move on.

This episode was mostly about Obi-Wan and Anakin and it was great. I wish the whole show had mostly been about the two of them.
And how would they have done that??? What "dynamic" would they explore? Every single time I see someone say "they should've explored Obi-Wan and Vader's dynamic" they can never tell me what that is. And how would they even get to interact? Obi-Wan and Vader talk on Space Dr. Phil?
Would have been oversaturated and less special
@@LunarOverdrive Just openly their dynamic is failed mentor and victim apprentice.
Vader can teach Obi Wan to let go and accept that it wasn't his fault after years of guilt.
Vader also can learn an abundance from Obi Wan about emotions interfering with his mission. And they don't really need to be together to explore this, Palpatine's scene can be used as an example for vader, and so can Obi Wan talking to Leia about her parents. If they focused more on Anakin rather than Padme in the sappy bits it would've been a fun way to explore Obi Wans guilt and maybe if they explored more of his adamant nature towards Lukes training and not making the same mistakes but still sticking to ineffective teaching methods like suppressing emotions.
For a dynamic to work you just need to show the effect that they have on each other if the writing is good they may not even have to meet in the show although that does make it harder.
@@orionxx9998 "Vader can teach Obi-Wan to let go and accept that it wasn't his fault after years of guilt."
Isn't that literally what they did in the finale? Did we watch the same episode? That was kind of the entire point of Vader's speech in the finale. If you go back and watch it again, you'll probably see what I mean.
"Vader also can learn an abundance from Obi-Wan about emotions interfering with his mission."
They did that in Episode 5, even Episode 6 to a lesser extent. Basically spelled it out in 5 with the flashbacks; Obi-Wan exploited Anakin's rage and impatience, a weakness Vader still latched onto. Obi-Wan's victory against Vader in Episode 6 and his line of "A Padawan, you will still be" in Episode 5 explains to the viewer why Vader said "I was but the learner," why he behaved more cautiously in ANH when he fought Obi-Wan, and the comics (and with any luck, a Vader TV show) expand upon the "Now I am the master" part.
In one comic, Vader is sent to Mustafar as a test, gets his arms and legs chopped off again and has a bounty hunter sent after him. He went through hell to make sure he would never lose to Obi-Wan, and he **did** learn, both in the show and subsequent material. That was Vader's arc, which I was surprised and shocked that they had the balls to give Darth Vader a small character arc that ties in with the comics (and hopefully a Vader TV Show)
Show was produced by disney for children, story writing was lazy, cast was bad other then originals, fighting film shoots looked like amateur fan film, you should never expect quality product from Disney
This episode puts a different spin on the whole 'From a Certain Point of View' debate, since it turns out that said point of view was Vader's himself.
About Anakin being killed by Vader?
@@MegaSpideyman yessir
Yup. Literally the only good thing about this show canonically was that they actually added to a retcon of Lucas. The rest though breaks canon. You telling me Luke, the guy who got chased by a force wielder with a lightsaber as a teenager, didn't understand lightsabers and didn't think the Force was real? You telling me Vader, the guy who got left by Obi-Wan the last three times they met (one of which he whooped his ass with stupid ease) would say ''When I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master.''?
It's canon breaking. But at least as standalone episodes, 5 and 6 were good.
@@TheStraightestWhitest you mean Luke, who wasnât told who she was or even saw a lightsaber the entire time is supposed to somehow know about the force and lighsabers? And when she did use the force, it was to trip him and he got knocked out without seeing or understanding anything. And the âI was but the learnerâ part makes sense since vader sees himself as better than him now after losing several times in the past
@@NationalPjVillain Also that line is still correct, as Vader lost his duel because he got emotional and wanted to win, the exact thing Obi-Wan scolded him for in the flashback, and even before that Anakin lost because while by every measure he was completely superior to Obi in every way he also totally lost his cool and threw it, even against Obi-Wans own advice in the duel itself.
That was Vader's power, eternal rage ever-burning his Dark side powers, but no real emotional attachment to the Jedi he so hated. He was cold, collected, and in control, and that completely unnerved any Jedi fighting him. But before Obi-Wan or anyone from his past really, that goes out the window, and it makes him weak. Because those emotions aren't Vader's, it is Anakin's. And by the end of this, Vader throws away that rage having realized this.
Hence his line during the final duel, he had finally learned Obi-Wan's lesson, and no longer feels the personal connection to him having completely let go of Anakin and his rage toward Obi-Wan specifically. And having done so finishes it just the same as every other Jedi he has struck down.
When Obi-Wan did his battle pose and later started doing his iconic form 3 stances and saber swooshes, I definitely got a little emotional....
Edit: Also Ewan doing the spot-on Guinness impression to Luke... Gah!
This episode suffered from "PREQUEL-ITIS" pretty hardcore. You knew that no one, other than maybe Reva, was going to die. But it was emotional and poignant in ways I was not expecting. Kudos to them for not having Luke see a light saber. They could have easily fucked that up.
I was worried about that too of him seeing the lightsaber
@@Starlight-fu7kv I think the film makers knew that it would anger fans to no end and knew we would be watching like a hawk for that to happen. Therefore they worked into the suspense of Reva being on his tail but Luke always managing to get away and not see it. Kind of meta in a way.
The thing I loved with Vader here is him grunting and the ominously weak breathing.
The final duel refused me to believe Obi Wan was fighting Vader, he was ridiculously powerful and him grunting and shouting really shows his anger.

Good to know I wasn't the only one who noticed
When Obi-Wan started saying I'm sorry, I started to tear up. The pain and sorrow he must have been feeling for 10 years only to find out he never killed Anakin. Not to mention , when Vader's helmet is cut and he starts talking to Obi-Wan, the blue from Ben's lightsaber illuminates their faces and you can see Vader's red trying to compete for which color is reflected in the moment on his helmet. I love that when Anakin talks theres the blue light, as if Anakin is still somewhat there. As the conversation goes on the red starts to take over the lighting when Vader speaks and it's clear Anakin has been long dead.
I like how they have the audacity to show that Riva is still alive but then they show Qui-Gon Jinn
In A New Hope, Vader said this quote: âWhen I left you, I was but a learner. Now I am the master.â You could interpret that line as the last time they saw each other was in Revenge of the Sith, but do you guys remember how calm Obi-Wan felt when he faced Vader in A New Hope? Itâs almost like he faced Vader a few more times after Revenge of the Sith; itâs almost like he knew what Vader already looked like before A New Hope. The Kenobi show has shown why Obi-Wan didnât show any fear in A New Hope when he faced Vader again.
people forget that obi wan in a new hope also said vader killed luke's father and in rotj he said it was true from a certain point of view, so you could take vader's line seriously or as shown in the series more as a metaphor, that's kinda why the flashback to them aswell exists
No, it could've been because he had overcome his grief with Vader. Plus HE was the one that defeated Vader on Mustafar by cutting 3 of his limbs after luring him. What did Obi-Wan have to be afraid of? At the point of a new hope he is already more experienced than Anakin would. Obi-Wan still considered him no more than an his former apprentice that lost his way and is more arrogant than ever. Also he was ready to die and there was nothing more he could do for luke. He bet it all on Luke when allowed himself to be strike down Vader.
And also Vader here clearly getting destroyed here helps that line a lot
Nope
Yeah no shit. You think the Emperor's right-hand man didn't show up on any video or recording on the Star Wars equivalent of the Internet? You think Obi-Wan didn't visit any bars on Tatooine?
I remember Ewan McGregor saying at one point it was going to be a movie but then it changed into a series but I feel like this episode plus the highlights of the others is what they had enough story/content for but they were being pressured by fans for a Kenobi series so they just dragged it out a bit. I mean don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the show as a whole but as much as I'll take away the incredible moments, I'll also take away the very slow chase scene through the forest in episode 1 where someone got knocked out by jogging into a tree branch.
The whole thing is garbage
they first wanted to make an movie about obi wan and boba but after solo flopped they scrapped it.
The movie would have worked better imo: there is 2 hours of a great fuckin' show hidden in 4. If the dumb shit were trimmed out and it was made into say a 2 and half hour movie it would have been fuckin' lit!!
@@darthvader2260 it's sad because solo was actually a pretty enjoyable film. I think obi wan would have done much better in box office just for the fact that Ewan is beloved by the star wars community.
I enjoy the mini series it gives them room to develop a story and not rush it due to 2 hours.
The whole obi and anakin scenes this ep were easily my favorites. Ewans acting was so fucking good. Got me teary eyed so fast.

Whoa whoa whoa take it easy it was great but the prequels duels are unmatched. I'm with you on the emotional part though I definitely got teary eyed.
Lmao please shut up
Every aspect you just described was basically taken from Twilight of the Apprentice where Vader and Ahsoka fight
@@queenofdogs01 except obi wan actually cracked more of his mask than Ahsoka did, though probably because made it out of tougher material when he fought ahsoka later on
I don't know. That color trick is nothing new, and for me Luke and Darth Vader's final confrontation will always be the most emotional.
It's somehow so wholesome to see how your reactions and expectations were so similar to mine, and probably everyone else
"You didn't kill Anakin. I did."
Gives me "But he didn't make Jinx. You did." Vibes

Yeah they got a new director for these parts thank god lmao
This is what happens when you take the idea for a 2 hour movie and turn it into a 6 hour show. You have to fill it with stuff that doesn't matter or make sense. Just look at the Hobbit trilogy. It was the smallest book of the whole series but the studio forced Peter Jackson to make it into 3 movies.

"Did you train the boy?" đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Whoops!
I love how there are so many references during this fight. When they confront each other they use the same dialogue before their Mustafar battle. Once again itâs Vaderâs arrogance which makes him lose since he has seen how weak Obi Wan was in episode three so he didnât take as seriously initially. Also when Vader buries Obi Wan and walks away, the tables have turned now since Obi Wan is the one to jump and shock him, mirroring Vaderâs move in episode three. Thereâs also the mirroring of Ahsokaâs battle with Vader, With Ahsoka cutting open his right eye, but Obi Wan cutting open his left, showing how the people who were closest to him can still get through to Anakin. Also I love how we see his blue eyes again when the screen is washed in the blue of Obi WANâs saber, but they switch to yellow when the screen is washed in the red of Vaderâs saber, showing us that Vader is taking control again. Such a beautiful battle which mirrors his battle with Ahsoka that he will have in a few years time
This episode. Chef's kiss. The duel. The music. The nostalgia. Everything. Absolute perfection
Loved it when the lightsabers glow turned blue to red on anakin's face when he gave that sith smile
The shot with vader and anikan is amazing i always imagined and hoped for a shot like that.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is my favourite show so for for sure. Thank you to everyone who made it happen.

I like how the Grand Inquisitor told Vader that they must pursue the rebel ship instead of Kenobi in order to find the entire network and the Jedi that they are hiding, but Vader just said no and follow my orders and the Grand Inquisitor just gave him a look like okay fuck you, do what you want.
For Reva trying to kill Luke, my guess was that she was trying to hurt Obi Wan, after finding out that he was protecting someone so she decided to try and kill that person to hurt him as revenge for failing Anakin.
If you have to make a massive guess, it is bad writing. Reva was pointless in the show.
For failing Anakin.
Yes the same Anakin who states it wasn't obi wan fault.
I also hate when Reva was like where were you when he murdered my friends.
I would've clapped back and said I was following a lead of general grievous' location and found him and had a saber duel with him. Then a legion of clones showed up to end the war.
Reva acting like obi wan was in some bar having sex with twileks. Fucking pathetic.
@@edelmantoamendola I was hoping that Owen was going to shoot her in the back while she ran through the desert after Luke

No. She's worked out Luke's Vaders child. Justice, that's what she's concerned with. Literally taking an eye for an eye.
Funny how the grand Inquisitor and Reva both get stabbed in the same way Quai gone Jin dus and both survive and yet the last person we see in the show was killed in the same way that they survived. âIronicâ

Legit, they could just left the Reva story out completely and then just release that episode combined with a bit background as a small movie. Loved the season final!
So true!
Agreed. I like Reva as a character but I think her story is done now; a child survivor of Order 66 turned inquisitor and now has a new lease on life but we don't need to see what that lease is.
@@TheHufflepuffSaint She literally had no bearing whatsoever on the story. Nothing she did affected the main plot in any way. Would have been better to leave her out and replace with more obi wan and vader.
Completely agree here. Her character just felt very out of place in the overall story arc. Sure itâs a story of redemption (sort of) but you couldâve changed her character to any of the other inquisitors and still had the same affect.
Nothing against Moses Ingram, she did a great job with what she was given.
@@amazoiduchko that's what I'm saying. This show has some of those Disney executive decisions all over and it feels like her character was tacked on to stitch the plot together. @@papathiqq3849 They could do it, but the issue is they covered that entire arc in the Charles Soule comics. From Vader forging his red lightsaber, to the formation of the Inquisitors, to building his fortress, it's all there. It is very very good and every fan should definitely check it out! There are four trades/graphic novels in the series! Disney generally doesn't cover material that they have already done in another format for Star Wars.

There is no way she found that out. She is a padawan at best made to look op because of Disney's woke agenda. Luke was in this series for less than 5 minutes which just shows how little alot of you know about what obi wan did on tattooine.
That's the sense I got, but I feel like they should've made it a little more obvious. I don't know, maybe it'll make more sense upon rewatch.
