In this video I will walk you through how to make your GNOME Desktop look like MacOS Ventura, Monterey, or Big Sur (they all look the same, but have different wallpapers). If I find a way to make it look even more like MacOS, I'll post a new updated video on that.
How to make Ubuntu look like MacOS Ventura, Big Sur, or Monterey. Although I am using Ubuntu 22.04, any Linux OS with GNOME will work. This video is meant to make GNOME LOOK like Mac OS, but not necessarily act like it. I might create a video in the future on how to make it act more like mac. Anyway, this video will include installing a Mac theme on Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish, or your Linux Distro. This video will also help you learn more about the GNOME Shell and GNOME Customization to make it look more like Mac.

Thank you for this. Do you think these modificaions will work with Ubuntu 22.10 as well?
Update: I asked too soon. I saw another reply of yours stating that it will work with 22.10. Thanks again
@@IVoIPYou Alright! If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
It's already 22.10 dude
@andika sujanadi Nope! It's not! 21.10 is a beta release only meant for testing, not an official LTS release for the masses and for production machines. Also, this tutorial will still work on 21.10 anyway.
Could you to make Ubuntu look like Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 can you?
This is actually a clear and nice tutorial. Subscribed!
Thank you so much! That means a lot!
Nice thorough walkthrough. Great explanations and step by step on the shell commands. Mac is a familiar environment for me and I've often wished I could get the look and feel onto my Linux systems.
Glad it helped!

Thanks, glad it worked!
it looks really nice , thanks for your help
Great! Glad you liked it!
Props to you. Trying to customize Gnome is like teaching a dog to moonwalk.
Haha 😄
@Knight Ofthenight A lot of DEs are now very customizable, but what Wiktor said is true because GNOME has the least customizability.
clear and nice tutorial. Subscribed!

Thank you! Excellent tutorial.

@@AF-Tech I've noticed that dragging other windows when a video is playing is extremely laggy. seems to be an issue with gnome. do you also have this issue and did you manage to fix it?
@Nelson Fleig No, I do not have this issue while playing any type of videos. Since I have never experienced this before, I can only guess. Maybe a RAM, CPU, or Graphics Card issue? Try going to system monitor > resources and see if there's a spike in cpu usage or RAM while playing videos compared to when you're not. Also, are you using Xorg or Wayland? Could also be due to a hungry extension, or too many Extensions? (I'm also assuming you're using 22.04). I can only guess so far
I cannot install the dash to dock animator in my gnome 44.3 could anyone help?
what about notification sound? Is there something we can change?

Why some apps like Telegram or Mozila are not opening regarding the theme? Is there any way to fix it or is there any other browser that does not have that problem?

Great video! I have a question, is it possible to blur the main screen or main desktop like the underlying application screen is?? (The screen where the task bar and home folder is)
I'm pretty sure that happens with blur my shell but if it doesn't feel free to reply and I'll try to help. I could also be misinterpreting your question as well.
Superb 👏👏👏❤
Thanks!
I Lovw Ubuntu it's so fast and it Doesn't Crash at all.
Yeah, I agree.
Commenting so algorithm picks up your vid. Good job kid.
Thanks so much!
Is there any way to replace Apple icon in the top "start menu"? I just want to replace it with an Ubuntu icon. Do you know how to do it? Thanks for your video.
Yes, if you either edit the icon in the macos theme, or instead of using WhiteSur, use Ubuntu-Monterey, which is like the video but with ubuntu logo.
Can you decrease the the distance of dock from base/bottom, also the icon zoom on hover. I tried an extenstion to zoom, it did but wasn't perfect and changes launchpad icon. The other thing is that some apps like btorrent and others doesn't follow the theme.
To decrease and increase the distance, you can try an extension called Floating Dock. I'm not sure if the GNOME Dock supports the icon zoom, but you can install another dock like Plank that supports it and then add the Mac theme. The icons not following the theme is because the person who made the icon theme didn't create icons for them. You can install a different icon theme if you want, or add the icons yourself. Feel free to reply for further questions.
thank you so much bro, god bless
How to make the black theme...what's it called when folder or file explorer is opened... Sorry for my bad english
WhiteSur-Dark
Bro i can use abobe software in this system
Thanks for the tutorial! I would like to know if is there a way to hide the Apple icon in the top left corner? I would prefer the one for Ubuntu to appear.
Yes, if you either edit the icon in the macos theme, or instead of using WhiteSur, use Ubuntu-Monterey, which is like the video but with ubuntu logo.
thanks! helped me a lot.
Glad to help!
perfect job
Thanks!
Very nice guy, I'm from Brazil!
Thanks! 🙂
@AF-Tech
How much space would it require? For this Overall setup, coz I allocated 20GB space for my root partition.
Is this enough to customize?
That is way more than enough space, it will definitely not exceed 20 GB. I hope this helps!
Very good video! , i have one question how do i change the clock to be the same theme as the macOs .Or is it already changed and it's so hard to notice ?
What do you mean, exactly? The date menu? You can format it differently with the Date Menu Formatter extension. Feel free to reply with questions.
i would be great if you could open up windows apps just like those exe's while having macos theme
Any idea how to get the vertical view of folders in Dolphin (the file manager)?
Dolphin isn't a GNOME file manager. Nautilus is. Nautilus is the default Ubuntu file manager, and you get Dolphin with KDE desktops. I don't have much experience with Dolphin since I just recently started learning about KDE, but in Nautilus it's pretty easy to click the button. Here's something I found on dolphin, if this is what you mean. "Click Edit > Preferences. On the Views tab, select the List View viewing option next to "View new folders using:" and click close."
best fvcking video i've ever seem! ty dude
No problem!
Working great on Kali linux Gnome as well.. Thanks
Great!
cool but for me these minimize icons etc are somehow only in the terminal in this Mac OS style, what can be the reason?
Did you try restarting the gnome shell and logging out and back in?
Just dropping a comment, I think you did a really good job here. I'm actually running Ubuntu 24.04 on a 5K iMac from late 2015, as Monterey will be out of support this fall. Since I personally can run macOS as a dual boot, I like to do something different for Linux, but I still appreciate the effort people have put into theming linux to look like the macOS. Ironically, you themed for Monterey, and Monterey is the last officially supported version of macOS for this iMac model. I am curious though have you used macOS officially? I was just curious how many people who want to their their OS like it, have officially used the real thing? Either way have a great day, and again, great Job :)
Thank you! Yes I have used MacOS Monterey.
Nice work kid!
Thanks!
Muito bom parabéns gostei muito
Thank you so much
Glad I could help!
Your explanations are Cristal and clear. 🖤.
I’m a windows user and I am familiar with windows type software mostly adobe.
I want to move on zoning. There is a premium version on that which offer Mac like look with cost.
Without the premium version can you make a video how to make look like Mac in zorin free version.
Thanks I'm glad you liked the video!
hi dear, i can make this process with a just one 120gb ssd ?
Yes, you can do that with 120gb, as long as you have enough space! This doesn't take up too much space, but its always good to check.
Package 'libglib2.0-dev-bin' has no installation candidate
Thanks for a great video. The end result is a ThinkPad that looks better, and maybe even works better, than my Silicone Macbook did. Exceeeded my expectations in lots of little ways that were not even mentioned in your video. Loving it. Now I am ready to prank my Apple fanboy friend when he visits later this month. Could I suggest a follow up video on tweaking the 🍎look still further?
Thanks for the comment! What parts of the shell should I customize in the follow-up vodeo? Tell me if there are any parts that really need some tweaking.
It would be good to be able to install the apropriate backgrounds and then have them change like Apple style according to the time of day. Such a tweak is out there but I cant work out to implement it.

@@jethrot100 Alright, there are many different apps that can accomplish this. I made a video on one of them, and it will be released tomorrow.
@@jethrot100 here's your video! czcams.com/video/zizdmOUXWr0/video.html
can we remove that apple logo, somehow?
Is there any way to change the distance of the dot from the app icon in the dock
Yes, if you use a different dock. Ubuntu dock doesn't support that yet, at least to my knowledge.
Where is the global menu ?
Unable to locate package gnome-shell-extensions-manager help me pls
You copied the exact command from the description, right? If not, do that. Otherwise, make sure you have the repositories enabled (universe, multiverse, etc. ). To do that you can go in the software and updates app and check those boxes. If you still need help, feel free to reply.
great video but i have a question. some apps like google chrome, it doesnt change the icons of the window close, full screen and minimize. is there any way to fix?
Google Chrome has their own buttons and you can't really change it since they're proprietary. You COULD right click on the title bar and select "use system title bar" which does take up more space but does make it more uniform.
@@AF-Tech thank you so much it works. yeah it takes some space but i'll take that
I have installed gnome shell extensions and it doesn't work for me, because it says that I don't have it activated or installed :(
What says that you don't have what installed? I'll be glad to help. What version of Ubuntu are you using?
Hey How did you get the apple bar up top?
The apple bar is the GNOME top bar that gets customized through the themes shown throughout the video. Are you saying that your GNOME top bar is missing?
Is there any performance diffrence i mean battery and heating issue?? After applying this settings
Blur my shell is the one thing that can possibly slow down older computers, but other than GNOME Extensions, everything else is themes and fonts which do not make a difference in performance or battery life.
Make a video on how to enable Hibernate on ubuntu in the easiest way possible
I really appreciate and subscribed you, when I changed the theme of Google Chrome now red, green yellow window title bar is not showing its showing default one, can you please help
Google has their own title bar buttons. If you right click on the title bar of Chrome, you can select “use system title bar,” which will switch it to the title bars provided by your desktop environment, which can get you the red, orange, and green buttons. However, this does slightly use up more screen space, but I hope this helps. Feel free to reply if you have more questions!
@@AF-Tech yes got it I went to settings then appearance then I selected use gtk theme now those MacBook tittle bar came but still not showing for Firefox
@@AnupGupta-05 If Firefox is a snap, it is because snaps sometimes can't follow the gtk theme.
perfect
Many thanks!!! My ubuntu looks so better! =)
Thanks!
Hi, i have a question i have ubuntu mate installed and now the extension manager dont work . if i want to install something it says :This extension does not support your Gnome Shell version . Would you like to install it anyway ? can you pls help me
Are you using mate desktop or did you install GNOME desktop? You can't use the mate desktop since it's quite literally not the right gnome version since it's based on gnome 2, and this is for gnome 42 and 43.
@AF-Tech I have ubuntu mate as operating system btw thanks for the answer 👍
@@_simplyelias_ Yeah, you can install GNOME 42 on your system and switch between the desktop environments if you'd like.
The icons in the dock does not jump when hover over them, everything else is OK.
Well, that's not even enabled my default on MacOS. If you want that, you will have to install a different dock since Ubuntu Dock doesn't support that. Install Plank dock and add a MacOS theme to it if you really want the icon zoom. I hope this helps!
Thank YOU
You're welcome!
