A Lonely New Years Eve Walk in a Darksome Castle Combe | COTSWOLDS

- So, on this last day of 2023 the time is just a few minutes before midnight and Castle Combe is the location for walking from 2023 into 2024. All over the world from London, Paris, New York and Sydney to name but a few there there were massive gatherings of thousands & thousands of people celebrating the transfer into the New Year, yet here I was walking a lonely path in the dark in arguably one of England's prettiest villages which is deep in the heart of the Cotswolds. The strange thing is...I enjoyed every single second of it! It felt so peaceful & serene despite the sense of isolation and being under the cover of darkness.
Castle Combe which is located about 5 miles north-west of the town of Chippenham and in the county of Wiltshire, England. The village has approximate population of 350. The parish church is the Church of Saint Andrew which is a Grade I listed building.
Castle Combe is a heavily visited location by tourists and more so on weekends but still sees a good number of visitors even on weekdays. During this walk not a single soul is seen or any moving vehicles, something that is rarely seen in videos of Castle Combe.
In rural villages like this one where there is no street lighting it is quite tricky to film at night as it is so very dark, all I had was a small head torch which helped a little in lighting the beautiful Cotswold stone walls of the buildings.
No mid roll ads in this video, so you view without interruption.

Wow, I have never seen Castle Combe like this before. It`s stunning! So peaceful and mysterious, the haunting sky and the moon piercing through. I never realized how very few streetlights there are. It`s VERY dark. I`d say that was a wonderful way to walk into 2024. 😊

It is also good to see Castle Combe in a different light (pardon the pun :)). I can’t recall seeing any local authority street lighting at all but please don’t quote me on that :). Brilliant… as you Brits would say!
Every light in the darkness was a treat I came to anticipate as a Light. Especially the end from about 9:15 on.

Assuming that was the sound of a river or stream that I could hear in the background. What's not to love. Feel free to do a zillion more, I would never tire of a night time stroll.

No special lighting on the camera, however I was wearing a small head torch just to try and help illuminate things as there was no street lighting. You did hear correctly, that was the sound of the By Brook river which was actually very swollen due to all the recent rainfall.
You will be pleased to know that there will definitely be more strolls under the cover of darkness, in fact I already have some that were recorded previously which I shall publish over the next week or two plus I will be getting out and recording more night walks as I am thoroughly enjoying them. It is good to see something a bit different here on CZcams :).

What a wonderful way to bid the past year “goodbye” and welcome the new! This was very peaceful and lovely- as nighttime walks in the right settings usually are. We live near the Niagara River and two lower Great Lakes, and I find that strolling by water at night is also very beautiful- with lights (both from the moon and from nearby homes) shimmering on the water. The glimpses of the sky with the moon illuminating the clouds were also much enjoyed. Good wishes for the new year….with many walks ahead. : )

Aww....this was so mysterious & yet beautifully tranquil. You inspire me to take more late evening and/ or very early dark walks, although being a woman all you hear is how unsafe it is but then again, I usually do my own thing anyway. Glad you are feeling inspired by these night walks and tbh I wasn't sure how well they would be received but initial findings are viewers seem to be enjoying them (and I'm really glad you are :)) obviously they won't be for everyone, which is fair enough.
Walking at night feels so different to daytime walks even to the early morning walks that we do. There is an air of romanticism, intrigue and like you say a mysterious & tranquil feel too when walking at night, even sounds seem different. Regarding your night walks I would think a lot would depend on where you might think about taking a walk, maybe carry a whistle with you and one of those super bright hand held flashlights. Twasnt lonely, very peaceful, everyone "snuggled in their beds" awaiting first coffee in the wee morning, besides Sir🕶️, we had the Moon, blazing the clouds in blue light, ominous! And a creaky flag pole, er other, I still rivet my ears to the ting-tong of the flag hoist whipping the mast, when I was little every single school had a flagpole, the daily familiar metallic tapping made me feel protected/secure. What you captured is the best celebration, for it's the most tangible, most forever.

Where is everybody anyway? I didn't hear the sounds of even one single party being held or anyone shouting happy new year....even if you wanted to crash a party you couldn't cause it looks like the whole town went to bed early or something....
