  • Homesteading and farming is about using the whole animal or plant to make your farm and yourself more sustainable. Community is important, and the plants and animals on your farm are part of your community. The forage radish is one example from the Baker's Green Acres homestead.

I like to grow forage radishes or giant beets for hogs and chickens. Cows will eat them, too.

Informative and entertaining - thank you for the upload. I cannot find a tribe page. What is that all about?

When do you plant these radish seeds?

Any time the field is empty April through August. They take about 45-60 days to get that big. Of course, the pigs don't care how big they get, so it all depends on your time frame. They do fine in colder weather, so they make a nice spring/fall crop. Thanks for a great question!

They are different as these are a radish and the other is a turnip. These have more spice where the turnip gets sweet when the sugars set after the frost. These pigs aren't too picky either way. :)
