This is my epic journey through the classic old Minecraft modpack called Gregtech: New Horizons aka GTNH
But instead of playing it in a normal world, I'm playing it in a void world starting out with nothing...
Yup!
Literally, NOTHING!!!
The challenge is called "Garden of Grind"
I'm playing and recording this through the Prism Minecraft modpack Launcher.

I think, taking quests rewards is totally fine. After all its rewards for your hard work. And you can think about coins like about your weekly wages 😉
I’m going to try to see how far I can go without taken any rewards because I’m crazy haha!
I truly want to see how far I can go with nothing…

I agree, I think there’s some genuinely necessary things from those rewards
Actually just realized twighlight forest exists, has a ton of resources and might as well be an unlockable overworld

23:02 OH MY GOD 💀 i like how just looking at the base it was already startling enough, and then as you kep backing up and looking higher and higher it just kept going and going!! that is sooooo absurd that that you can just craft that with a sapling and a few sticks
It genuinely blow my mind how freaking tall it was!
It says a lot about the nature of this challenge that it takes you hours upon hours to get to just one of the major components of a starting skyblock island
Well the challenge is on a void world so I guess it was expected
The rainforest oak tree growing was such a surprise

Wait until you see the sacred oak from MFR
29:30 you can fix the quest black screen thing by upgrading (it's fixed in 2.6.0-beta-1 and 2.6.0-beta-2). if you dont wanna do betas you gotta wait until 2.6.0 stable, which will be a few weeks probably

Use a gregtech axe it has built in tree capitator
Not in GTNH, or at least 2.6.0 which I'm playing.
Using the questbook is part of gog i with my humble opinion wouldnˋt mind if you were using it. It would make the grind a bit easyer
+ without quests you have to cheat in a few items

Place the mushrooms on dirt in light level 7 or below. They spread to other low light levels. Also once placed they can be bonemealed for the large/ block variants.
The joy of moving villagers kept the same through all MC versions 😞
I don’t totally agree, in this version they are pretty much lifeless…
mindless mumble, no reaction, just letting themselfs be pushed aroun... reminds me of my lovelife...
At least in newer versions you can get them on chickens and fly them around :)

Depends on if you have big enough chickens in real life.
You're probably past this point now, but if I'm not mistaken you can craft an apple sapling with any sapling, and the apple tree will have oak logs and oak leaves.
ive read somewhere that updating the Better Questing mod fixes the black screen.
So fun fact. Those rainforest iaks were actually made by yhe modpack devs as a way to make steam power a bit easier via charcoal. Which... oh god how the hell are you gonna get clay...

Using the quest rewards is fine by me. It would slightly speedup the process and will give me a bit more guidance of big goals.
you could build a big pillar to the top of that tree, drop some water and every time you plant a new one, just climb using the water and cut it from the top to the bottom
that villager moving was nervewrecking to watch

Just wanted to say I'm loving this series so far, I'm glad it showed up on my home page! I don't think this is a pack for me (I lose interest too quickly) but you make it entertaining 😁
quest rewards are required for starting bees afaik
I believe they are, yes.
But I’m gonna see how far I can generally get without any rewards…

@@gardenofgrind IIRC, you're blocked by a flawless diamond for the MV lathe, which you can pick up from the questbook.
I did not expect the rain trees to be that tall😂
I know this is way to late, but i have to say it.
using swords to break blocks damages the sword faster than using it to fight, could have reduced the times all swords broke and needed to fist the skeletons.
I like to approach these huge trees with a stack or two of ladders. Just place them on your way up and collect them ad you chop the tree top to bottom. Makes it a pretty relaxing activity.
Hahaha, you need access to screws to make ladders and he doesn't have that
@KaneYork Wooden screws aren't that hard to get, and he already had a bunch of wood by the end of the episode anyway. Might make his next woodcutting session a bit less of a nightmare, though.
When cutting tall trees i always cut out a spiraling staircase on my way up then cut the remainder on my way down

Hey! Idk if you will read this but a lot of the bugs you encountered may be from using the curseforge launcher to start the game. If you download the pack from a different launcher like technic that will fix a lot of the bugs. If you read your quest book in getting started it actually explains how if you encounter glitches they suggest switching launchers. Hope that solves stuff.

I've had hte same issue with the black screen when completing quest while also having thaumcraft warp
From what I have discovered it’s from eating those zombie brains, since I haven’t eaten them I no longer have those black screen/scary sounds anymore.

@@gardenofgrind Eating zombie brains give temporary warp! you can see this by using arcane litmus paper

Its a bug with the warp effect where your screen narrows and the fast heartbeat is heard. I'm not sure how you got a whole lot of warp.
From what I’ve experienced it seems to happen if I have eaten zombie brains I believe
that would do it. Pro tip: stop eating zombie brains, they're bad for your health and psych@@gardenofgrind

I know this comment mite be late but, why not make a platform to grow those mega trees, with an upwords spiral staircase to reach the top.
That's way you could chop each row of logs straight down under you...

It's probably the fact you have optifine installed at all that is causing that black screen, optifine plays poorly with mods.
You should install vein miner or timber mode for chopping down trees fast.
He can just craft a lumberaxe in tinkers construct which acts as a vein miner for trees

I mean, the quest coins are very usefull in gtnh
I know, but I genuinely want to see how far I get without using them
I liked it better with all the crap on the ground :(
