A few reasons for getting ambidextrous wired mice: 1. If one hand hurts, switch to the other hand, 2. In a KVM setup, you can more easily switch which device it works with. 3. Better security
I remember a CZcamsr, years ago, was told to destroy a 3DS game card by the publisher. The physical version has a bug that made it unbearable, he contacted the publisher and they agreed to send him a code for the digital version as long as he provided evidence he destroyed the physical game.
This usually happens when the product is worth less than $350 (which is considered to be a replacement contract). If worth more it will be repaired. The warranty company on the back is called Centricity (aka Bankers Warranty Group). To get coverage you have to be instructed by a rep to cut the wire, otherwise it will be denied. They also serve companies like iCuracao, Epic (NationWide), Cowboy Malone, Razer, Northern Tools, and some small dealers. What is curious about them is that they are 3rd parties who most of the time hire 3rd party service centers to actually do the job.
I had a faulty Razer mouse in 2018 and they initially offered for me to send it back to them and have them send me a new one once they got it but as I live in Australia that meant I could be without a mouse for 4+ weeks given the average shipping times. I asked if there was another way we could do it and then was given the option to cut the mouse cable and send them the photo and they'd send me a new one right away, which meant I was only without a mouse for 2 weeks. They also sent me the newer nicer model of mouse that was sold for more than $150 more than my faulty mouse as they'd stopped manufacturing the original model. It's interesting to hear that this is the standard practice now though, maybe so many people opted for the convenience of not having to send the product back and lower expected time to receive the replacement that they just made it the standard?
I actually hate those people. I would never be ok using someone else's property even if they allowed me to and scamming just feels wrong on too many levels

this is a very common process, I worked in the diving industry and our directive for warranty items that didnt get sent back to the manufacturer was to cut out all the logos from the item, rendering the item for or less useless and then send proof (photos) to our rep then dumpster it
The reason that they feel this is enough, is that Razer Mice have additional moulding that only allows their cables to fit, they assume you wont go looking on Ebay for a new after-market cable. They sent me a whole new mouse and dock after I went onto their support about their software. I kept trying to explain the mouse wasnt the issue but they were adamant that a new mouse would sort the issue. Well, I now have 2 of the same mouse (and dock) and the software issue still persists.
I had a warranty for some speakers that broke from a brand that isn't Razer. They asked me to cut the power cord and connecting wires. It's not like it couldn't be rewired, since it's only power wires. But hey, I got my replacement
Its a common thing. We have had cummins engines fail went through the warranty process and at the end had to cut a 4 inch hole into the block and send pictures in. Kubota usually has you score a big X into the sealing surface.
Steel Series said the same thing to me when I filed a warranty claim for my keyboard. Worse thing is they won't ship the new one until you send a picture of your cord cut. So if you don't have a backup peripheral you are SOL until they feel like sending you your replacement. Not to mention they have about 100 disclaimers saying that they can decide to not send the replacement for pretty much any reason. When I raised concerns about not having another keyboard to use the customer service rep pretty much said oh well, tough shit. Steel Series has some of the worst customer service I've experienced. It's a shame too because I like a lot of their products, but because of this experience I will never buy another product from them
The same thing with Cable Mod. My PCIE cables from cable mod didn't work and they were going to replace it but before they did, they requested that I cut the cables in half.
@@tifa26I'm pretty sure you can, mine was $15 so $10 isn't crazy. It has 2.4G 5G and a USB a receiver. I wouldn't recommend it because the ergonomics are shit but there are always those options
If you want to know how I am I took about 5-6 years to finally get wireless earbuds and only did it because I switched my IPhone to one that didn’t have an audio jack in it. Still hate apple for that one.
Steel series does the same thing with there headsets. My wireless headset was broken hanging by the wire and they still asked me to cut it up. And it costed like 200$ to buy at the time.
Logitech was notorious for sending you a warranty replacement product and would tell you to scratch off the serial number of the broken one (as it would be invalidated). You could literally buy a speaker set, claim it failed while under warranty and get a new set for free :D
As a razer mouse owner who fucked up a cable by accident once, no you cant just buy any other usb cable they usually come with a specially shaped slot that wont accept any other usb cables. They sometimes even vary between models.
This actually happened to me with SteelSeries as well (about a month ago), I got an Arctis Nova Pro Wireless headset with a dead battery (The headset works, only one of the batteries is dead and doesn't charge), and they asked me to break the earcups (including cutting the inner wires), shoot a video of the broken headset, and send it to them, before the can send the replacement!
When I got my new steel series headset it was missing one of the panels that cover the battery. When I went through the warranty the last step was to send them photo proof that I had destroyed my headset before they would send me a new one. It seemed too wasteful to me so I just dealt with not having the cover plate.
I had to do this with my thrustmaster hotas joystick that quit working after less than a year. Seems this is standard practice when you're getting a warranty replacement that they don't want sent back.
Ive actually has this same thing but with wireless headphones. Steelseries told me to snap the ear pieces off the band and send a photo + video of evidence. So they arent the only ones.
older Razer mouse with docking station has a 'proprietary' shape cable, so a generic microUSB will not fit. You get get one from eBay, but the sellers are also monetizing that. The newer USB C ones works with generic USB C cables.
Steel series does it too it doesnt matter about the cost. They also want you to break more than the wire. For my wireless headset they had me break the ear cups off and cut the wire connecting them. It's a lot more than just cut wire
Cable Mod did this with their extensions. I had wires coming out of the plastic connectors, they told me to send a picture of them cut in half, and they would send another set. Normal practice. Razer has proprietary usb connectors, you can't just swap it with any amazon basics cable, they have a tongue and groove.
They do this for AFR gauges. Often the O2 sensors fault when in their first uses. The guage company will replace the O2 sensor after tou send them a picture of the sensor cut .
Logitech didnt make me do any thing for a new g502 LS when my old one had scroll issues, just a simple video show casing the issue then they sent me a new one.
If you were asked to do this, ask around among your friends and acquaintances. Surely one of them knows how to solder a cut cable back together. They might even be able to replace the switches that caused clicking issues.
Razer's iskur warranty is actually pretty nice. If you provide sufficient evidence and if its not really fixable they just send you the replacement part with free shipping on any part of the world
I once had a Razer keyboard and it was ruined and I warranty'd it and they had me cut the cord on that too. was cheaper and easier to prove the keyboard was 'destroyed' then it was to ship it back and them to ship out a new one, got me my replacement pretty quick too.
my friend had to cut the cable of his black widow elite keyboard, because of broken volume scroll wheel. he did that and i found out like a year later, he still had it with the cut of cable, i soldered an old charging cable to the correct pins and sprayed some contact cleaner into the volume wheel and i have been using it perfectly fine for over 3y now
SteelSeries did this with my headphones 3 years ago also. After determining there wasn’t anything that could do to help fix mine, they asked me to send a photo of them once I’ve destroyed them and cut specific wire for them to send me a new set after
Bike manufacturers do this too, there’s a video of a Yeti mtb frame being cut so you don’t resell/keep the original frame when it’s under a warranty replacement
Cosori had the same deal for their air fryers. I just found a picture of a cut cord that looked the same and photoshopped it next to my serial number. Now I have 2 that function perfectly.
Steel series did the same to me. When I had my arctis 7 replaced they had me snap it and cut all the wires with picture proof. Had to include the qr code they sent me and everything. It was fun breaking it haha
They had me do it with my wired black widow keyboard, after 3 weeks of going back and forth because of the defect. Then I cut the cable, sent them the photo and THEN they had me send in the keyboard and gave me a refund voucher, which took another 2 weeks altogether. Made me think hard about my choice of keyboard brand and ultimately led me to custom mechanical boards. Couldn't be happier about it today 😅
I had to RMA a Noctua fan and they also asked me to break off a couple fan blades and take a picture so I wouldn't have to send it back to them. Pretty normal procedure.
Way WAY back in the day (early 2000s), I had the original Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer that die. Microsoft just straight-up sent me a new mouse, didn't ask for the old one back or anything.

What is curious about them is that they are 3rd parties who most of the time hire 3rd party service centers to actually do the job.
>cut wire
>solder it back on
I had a faulty Razer mouse in 2018 and they initially offered for me to send it back to them and have them send me a new one once they got it but as I live in Australia that meant I could be without a mouse for 4+ weeks given the average shipping times.

Nah, being selfish is better than caring about random strangers who don't even care about you
It's like "stealing" 1$ from a billionaire.. nobody really cares.. it costs them like 10 cents to make these, and idiot fanboys pay up to hundreds of bucks for it 😂
Cut the wire, send a pic, get a new one. Warranty scam in action.
Same with my laptop's charger, they wanted me to cut the cable as it was an explosion risk, just edited it lol.
It’s not an explosion risk to cut a cable, literally nothing happens.
@@TechHowden i didn't mean that, they wanted me to cut the cable BECAUSE the charger itself was risky (it legitimately gets really got with little use), so to make sure I am not at risk they want proof that i will not use the charger anymore (in this case, by cutting the cable)
and they just shipped a new one totally charge free
@@The_Richa oh sorry, I just misread the comment.
Me and my friends used to take advantage of this because all we had to do was take out the soldering iron and solder the cable back together
Ah yes, digital landfill
As an Electrician its easy enough to solder it back on.
this is a very common process, I worked in the diving industry and our directive for warranty items that didnt get sent back to the manufacturer was to cut out all the logos from the item, rendering the item for or less useless and then send proof (photos) to our rep then dumpster it
The reason that they feel this is enough, is that Razer Mice have additional moulding that only allows their cables to fit, they assume you wont go looking on Ebay for a new after-market cable.
They sent me a whole new mouse and dock after I went onto their support about their software. I kept trying to explain the mouse wasnt the issue but they were adamant that a new mouse would sort the issue.
Well, I now have 2 of the same mouse (and dock) and the software issue still persists.
Free computer mouse generator. Just repair and sell the mice at that point lol.
@@netts2315 reeeeeeaaaad the mouse wasnt broken the software was, I presume Salty means Razer's Synapse application was bugged
Anker made me do this for a special charge cable. Just took an image from the Internet.
lmao I was thinking you could do that. most ppl will do it legit so I doubt they care even if they know
haha I photoshopped my Blue Yeti mic
With about 3 mins of work + a solder you can also mend any cut cord
Also with photoshop
good shit to know. i love to practice my soldering
I had a warranty for some speakers that broke from a brand that isn't Razer. They asked me to cut the power cord and connecting wires. It's not like it couldn't be rewired, since it's only power wires. But hey, I got my replacement
whats up zach! love ur content
It's also weird cause in a situation where your mouse is broken, a second cable to charge and use the mouse would be very useful.
It's a shame too because I like a lot of their products, but because of this experience I will never buy another product from them
btw did you know on screen keyboard applications exist on that time?
Just photoshop the cable being cut bro it takes no more than 5 minutes
My arctis headsets mic was way too shit and Steelseries did not RMA it and told me to take it to a repair shop lol.
Their products are dogshit also. Compared to all other products that exist.

I had to do a similar thing with a AEM oil pressure gauge lol. Decided to blowing it up with tannerite.
The same thing with Cable Mod. My PCIE cables from cable mod didn't work and they were going to replace it but before they did, they requested that I cut the cables in half.
Love yo stuff ztt
I use a wired mouse that isn’t detachable. I prefer it to wireless because I don’t have to use batteries to keep it charged.
You can get a $10 mouse that's wireless and charges via cable
@@phoenixwhiler943not 10$, but I get your point.
Also not to mention. One battery lasts like five months. You never turn it off or smth?
>looks inside
>wires
Steel series does the same thing with there headsets. My wireless headset was broken hanging by the wire and they still asked me to cut it up. And it costed like 200$ to buy at the time.
Jokes on them, I repair electronics for a living 😂😂
Logitech was notorious for sending you a warranty replacement product and would tell you to scratch off the serial number of the broken one (as it would be invalidated). You could literally buy a speaker set, claim it failed while under warranty and get a new set for free :D
Astro headset warranty made me do this too had to show it was cut before getting my replacement
I also had to cut the wire of my razer raiju when I had issues a few years ago, got a new one without sending it back 😂
Lmao comments are filled with bots

They made me do the same for my keyboard. Since the cable was not detachable, I got around it by buying a usb c port and soldering that on
Ive actually has this same thing but with wireless headphones. Steelseries told me to snap the ear pieces off the band and send a photo + video of evidence. So they arent the only ones.
That's a braided sheathed cable of a very specific specification. It's more expensive to replace those than you might think.
Definitely one of those things where the workers just let the boss have it on that one and just agree that it’s a bullet proof plan
Even if you cut it, you can get spare ones on Internet pretty easily, Logitech asked to do this as well back in the day.
older Razer mouse with docking station has a 'proprietary' shape cable, so a generic microUSB will not fit.
They did that to me when the return site was broken. I now have two working mice with one just having a non working middle-mouse button.
Logitech didnt make me do any thing for a new g502 LS when my old one had scroll issues, just a simple video show casing the issue then they sent me a new one.
i think it's to prevent the opd one from being sold or given away.
Razer wireless mice have a very small entry way with grooves so that you can't easily use other cables to charge them.
Steel Series had me completely demolish a faulty pair of headphones so I could get a new pair. Lol
If you were asked to do this, ask around among your friends and acquaintances. Surely one of them knows how to solder a cut cable back together. They might even be able to replace the switches that caused clicking issues.
Fun fact the razor cable is micro USB and uses a special keyhole to make it proprietary unless they have changed it from the ones that I have used
Can confirm had to do this for my basilisk v3.
I just order a new wire from amazon and gave the old mouse to my brother
Razer's iskur warranty is actually pretty nice. If you provide sufficient evidence and if its not really fixable they just send you the replacement part with free shipping on any part of the world
I once had a Razer keyboard and it was ruined and I warranty'd it and they had me cut the cord on that too. was cheaper and easier to prove the keyboard was 'destroyed' then it was to ship it back and them to ship out a new one, got me my replacement pretty quick too.
They're about to raise the price of their OEM
replacement cables.
my friend had to cut the cable of his black widow elite keyboard, because of broken volume scroll wheel. he did that and i found out like a year later, he still had it with the cut of cable, i soldered an old charging cable to the correct pins and sprayed some contact cleaner into the volume wheel and i have been using it perfectly fine for over 3y now
SteelSeries did this with my headphones 3 years ago also. After determining there wasn’t anything that could do to help fix mine, they asked me to send a photo of them once I’ve destroyed them and cut specific wire for them to send me a new set after
Had this too on my razer kraken, was kinda worried about it at first
I assume they’re trying to ensure that you don’t just sell the other one or that you actually need a replacement
Bike manufacturers do this too, there’s a video of a Yeti mtb frame being cut so you don’t resell/keep the original frame when it’s under a warranty replacement
Wonder how easy it’d be to weld back together
The division between those who can solder and those who can’t widens every day
Cosori had the same deal for their air fryers. I just found a picture of a cut cord that looked the same and photoshopped it next to my serial number. Now I have 2 that function perfectly.
Instructions unclear: I cut mine, now I can't charge my mouse
Same thing with bikes, but you have to cut the frame in half, they dont really connect well after that
I had to RMA a Noctua fan and they also asked me to break off a couple fan blades and take a picture so I wouldn't have to send it back to them. Pretty normal procedure.
This is super normal in electronics. They do it for literally anything with a wire
Way WAY back in the day (early 2000s), I had the original Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer that die. Microsoft just straight-up sent me a new mouse, didn't ask for the old one back or anything.
NZXT also does that if you run into issue with their fans or AIOs. They want you to destroy them before they'll send you a new one.
