How to Install a Fabtech Spare Tire Mount on a Ford Ranger.

  • The name "Fabtech" time warps me to the late 90s and early 2000s. Back then my dream lift was to get the 5.5" lift kit for my 99 Ranger. While looking for spare tire options for my 95 Ranger, I stumbled upon this "used" Fabtech spare tire carrier on Amazon. When it arrived, it clearly wasn't used. It was probably just returned. Everything was brand new in the original packaging! Not a bad score for $70!

I learned to drive in a ‘95 Ranger XLT with a 4.0 L V6 and a 5 Speed Manual Transmission. Loved it, wish I never got rid it. Currently driving a 2004 Expedition with 5.4 L V8 16valve. I replaced the air suspension with coil over and added a 3” lift and put on 33” tires. It’s my daily driver.
Looking to purchase an older Ranger again, ‘93 -‘97 range, to modifying and have for fun on the weekends.

My front suspension is very different from yours. Fabtech used to offer a 3” lift spindle for fairly cheap but it doesn’t show up on their website anymore. There are other places that sell them but they are almost double what I paid for back in 2001. It’s crazy. Might be in much demand anymore since it’s an older truck. What other kinds of mods are you interested in? Looks?

@@rayregnogarage I got super lucky and found it already done, the owner had gotten tired of chasing down gremlins and traded it for a car at a small shop. Shop owner had it for a couple years, sold it for 2 grand. It was missing all the 4x4 parts forward of the tcase, and ran pretty rough but the interior is very nice, had a bedliner sprayed in, and was painted like a smurf blue. I tracked down the O2 sensors and found the guy had wired them backwards and crisscrossed. So I straightened that out and she's run like a sewing machine ever since! I have not looked at solo mtorosports, but I'm east coast so my offroading is more trail riding than desert running. I love watching you guys out west tear it up though! I decided on the James Duff kit because of the dual front shock system, which I imagine will help with the extra weight up front. I need to keep the rear end leaf sprung too since I use it to haul stuff occasionally and tow my firebird around. If you do the V8 swap, triple check your measurements for fitting, the other issue I had was a small oil leak that I couldn't track down until the passenger side axle beam finished punching a hole in the oil pan. Keep up the good work man I enjoy all your videos!

@@SpradlinJason IG: @strongholdgarage There’s a difference between a “lift kit” and a performance suspension. A lift kit is for looks. The Duff product is a lift kit and uses drop brackets to lift the truck. The Solo product actually takes a factory beam, cuts and extends it. It’s much more functional.
